Battle of Tours
Saturday, October 10, is the anniversary of the Battle of Tours (or Poitiers) in 732, in which Charles Martel (The Hammer and supposedly an ancestor) and his brave, outnumbe5ed Frankish warriors turned back the first Muslim crusade to conquer Europe and eliminate Christendom.
Excerpt: The Battle of Tours (often called the Battle of Poitiers, but not to be confused with the Battle of Poitiers, 1356) was fought on October 10, 732 between forces under the Frankish leader Charles Martel and a massive invading Islamic army led by Emir Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi Abd al Rahman, near the city of Tours, France. During the battle, the Franks defeated the Islamic army and Emir Abd er Rahman was killed. This battle stopped the northward advance of Islam from the Iberian peninsula, and is considered by most historians to be of macrohistorical importance, in that it halted the Islamic conquests, and preserved Christianity as the controlling faith in Europe, during a period in which Islam was overrunning the remains of the old Roman and Persian Empires.

Worth Reading: DOCTOR CARSON - A MAN OF ACTION AND TRUTH. By Colonel Andy Weddington, USMC (Ret)

Excerpt: More than a year ago, before Dr. Ben Carson even declared his candidacy, I wrote here of my admiration for Dr. Ben, that I believed he was a principled man, a good man with good intentions, but didn't believe he had any chance of winning the Republican nomination, much less the Presidency. Even after Dr. Carson declared, and especially after watching his "too quiet", "too demure" imagery at the Republican debates, I continued to believe that Carson didn't have much of a chance. But now I'm beginning to wonder.

UPENN PROFESSOR ANTHEA BUTLER: BRAIN-SURGEON BEN CARSON DESERVES ‘COON OF THE YEAR’ AWARD
Excerpt: Prof. Justin McDaniel, chairman of the University of Pennsylvania’s religious-studies program, did not respond to Butler’s tweet but said she is a “valued colleague and faculty member.”

Fuck Ben Carson. By Drew Magary
Sorry for the language, but worth pointing it out. Have you ever head a conservative columnist in a major publication say "Fuck Obama" as a writer for GQ did of Ben Carson? Or say Obama deserves a "coon of the year" award as a professor said about Carson? Or say Obama is insane as several lefties said about Carson? More of the putrefying racism of the left. As always, any despicable tactic is acceptable because, in their minds, their intentions are good. You can't make the omelet of putting everyone under the control of big government for their own good without breaking some eggs. Or lives. Of course, the steps needed to control the public for their own good grow ever more draconian--and lead eventually to the Gulag. ~Bob

Worth Reading: Vladimir S. Patton. By Carl M. Cannon
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2015/10/04/vladimir_s_patton_128297.htmExcExcerpt: On its face, “leading from behind” always seemed an obvious oxymoron. Yet when Libya started to unravel, and the United States did very little, the White House offered up the concept as a sophisticated management tool. It was not a successful experiment: In Libya, the result was violence and anarchy, not to mention the torching of the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and the murder of four Americans.
Similar evidence has arrived from other failed states. The latest case study is Syria, where the concept of exercising leadership by doing nothing has proven as ineffectual as it sounds. Just ask Vladimir Putin—or the ghost of George S. Patton.

Quote
"It [the State] has taken on a vast mass of new duties and responsibilities; it has spread out its powers until they penetrate to every act of the citizen, however secret; it has begun to throw around its operations the high dignity and impeccability of a State religion; its agents become a separate and superior caste, with authority to bind and loose, and their thumbs in every pot. But it still remains, as it was in the beginning, the common enemy of all well-disposed, industrious and decent men." --H.L. Mencken [1926]

Clinton e-mails were vulnerable to hackers, tech firm warned. By Tom Hamburger and Rosalind S. Helderman, Washington Post
Excerpt: A technology subcontractor that has worked on Hillary Rodham Clinton’s e-mail setup expressed concerns over the summer that the system was inadequately protected and vulnerable to hackers, a company official said Wednesday. But the concerns were rebuffed by the company managing the Clinton account, Platte River Networks, which said it had been instructed by the FBI not to make changes. The FBI has been reviewing the security of the e-mail system.

McCarthy withdraws from speaker race, vote postponed

Worth Sharing: When people complain about America--Jack Webb, Dragnet
This speech is something over 50 years old, what some would call a conservative rant about the positive aspects of our nation.  Yet most of it is still valid, at least in my opinion.  And when the speakers talk about things that have improved from the point of view of that time, most of us can think of a bunch more to add since then.  Just one example, Webb talks about the 55,000 who died on the highway every year back then.  Now, with twice as many people on the highway, driving 3 or 4 times as many miles, the highway deaths are down closer to 30,000.  When we think of all the things that used to be so bad, we need to focus not entirely on the fact that we still have problems and are a long way from perfect, but also that we've been moving forward nonstop since the Founding. --Del

Worth Reading: Hillary’s Trade Flip-Flop Shows How Dumb She Thinks We Are. By Ben Domenech
Excerpt: Battling a socialist for the base, Clinton just announced she’s no longer for a trade deal she touted as one of her big achievements. It would be laughable if it weren’t so predictable. ... These rules do not apply to Clinton, which is why it’s pointless to make a fuss about her stated “position” on TPP. She is likely lying about what she thinks, and even if she’s not, her words have no necessary relationship with her true policy goals. The odds of Clinton pushing this agreement forward yesterday were 50/50, and today they are 50/50. It is a position taken for the sake of advantage at this juncture of a long campaign—and there is no reason she will feel bound by it once in the White House.

Worth Reading: Perth electrical engineer’s discovery will change climate change debate
Excerpt: A MATHEMATICAL discovery by Perth-based electrical engineer Dr David Evans may change everything about the climate debate, on the eve of the UN climate change conference in Paris next month. A former climate modeller for the Government’s Australian Greenhouse Office, with six degrees in applied mathematics, Dr Evans has unpacked the architecture of the basic climate model which underpins all climate science. He has found that, while the underlying physics of the model is correct, it had been applied incorrectly. He has fixed two errors and the new corrected model finds the climate’s sensitivity to carbon dioxide (CO2) is much lower than was thought. Germany: Muslim gang rape victim stabbed in honor killing ordered by her own mother because she was “unclean”

Excerpt: The “97 percent” statistic first appeared prominently in a 2009 study by University of Illinois master’s student Kendall Zimmerman and her adviser, Peter Doran. Based on a two-question online survey, Zimmerman and Doran concluded that “the debate on the authenticity of global warming and the role played by human activity is largely nonexistent among those who understand the nuances and scientific bases of long-term climate processes” — even though only 5 percent of respondents, or about 160 scientists, were climate scientists. In fact, the “97 percent” statistic was drawn from an even smaller subset: the 79 respondents who were both self-reported climate scientists and had “published more than 50% of their recent peer-reviewed papers on the subject of climate change.” These 77 scientists agreed that global temperatures had generally risen since 1800, and that human activity is a “significant contributing factor.”

Excerpt: All in all, this focus is a little strange, for, as Lois Beckett explained extremely clearly last year in the pages of the New York Times, there is in fact no such thing as an “assault weapon.” Functionally speaking, the term is entirely meaningless. It does not mean “machine gun”; it does not mean “especially powerful rifle”; it does not mean “child killer” or “cop murderer” or “armor-piercer.” Except insofar as it nods to an aesthetic style that is popular among people who have watched a lot of 24, it means nothing much at all. To draw an analogy, it’s the “organic food” of the self-defense world.

Victim of Oregon Tragedy STILL Opposes Gun Control

Worth Reading: The Rachel Dolezal-ation of the Oregon Killer. By Larry Elder
Excerpt: Here's the narrative: mass killers are almost always white men. The Daily Kos recently published a piece with this headline: "How come we can't tell the truth about the White Mass Killer Problem?" It asks, "Just what the fracking hell is the matter with all these mass-murdering white people?" Certainly mass killers are almost always men. But they're not almost always white men. Overrepresented? Perhaps. But almost always white? No. Chris Harper Mercer walked into Oregon's Umpqua Community College and killed nine people, wounding nine more. On a dating site, Mercer, whose father is white and mother is black, referred to himself as "mixed race." The Los Angeles Times implied that Mercer was white. The Times, in a sub-headline, said he had "white supremacy leanings." The original article said: "A federal law enforcement source familiar with the investigation said, though, that authorities had obtained some of Harper-Mercer's writings, as well as a note he left behind, suggesting that he supported white-supremacist causes and opposed organized religion." The Times later changed the solitary law enforcement source to "two" sources, but added a line stating, "However, he identified as mixed-race on a dating website and lived with his black mother." (Thank heaven for people like Larry Elder, who happens to have a whole bunch of African genes, but whose thinking is not clouded by any kind of serious bias by it.  He just thinks clearly and logically about matters, and makes cogent comments, as below. Why o why would most Americans now have something less than total confidence in the mainstream media?  Because of the slants that have become so clear and so commonly exercised in how they "report" the news.  "Advocacy journalism" got legitimized way back about 1968, when it became OK to write about the war in Viet Nam in ways that were more reflective of the feelings of the reporter than of the actual bare facts.  It has plagued our society ever since, and does, I believe, real harm to us overall.  Democracy depends on a well informed electorate, and when the media are corrupt, the electorate is more likely to be misinformed. Is it critical to know the Oregon madman was Black?  In some ways, not really.  But it is critical to know that it's not just a White thing to be nuts and kill people.  That's part of the divisive propaganda that has been coming at us for so very long, which is damaging to all of us as a people. --Del)

Make it a gun-free zone: Does EPA Need Guns, Ammo And Armor To Protect The Environment? BY STEPHEN MOORE
Excerpt: The Environmental Protection Agency spent millions of dollars over the last decade on guns, ammo, body armor, camouflage equipment, unmanned aircraft, amphibious assault ships, radar and night-vision gear and other military-style weaponry and surveillance activities, according to a new report by the watchdog group Open the Books. The report raises questions about why EPA's enforcement division employs well-armed "special agents" who appear to be conducting SWAT-type operations on American businesses and households it suspects of wrongdoing. Speaking of federal agencies out of control, the EPA is one of the classic examples.  Its original function is of course a critical one for all of us, but to get as politicized as it is now, with too many overly passionate environmentalists in positions of authority they misuse, and now spending millions of dollars on military grade weapons and equipment, is way, way past reasonable. They have been chastised by the Supreme Court in some lawsuits for things like basically persecuting homeowners who cleared a swampy area on their land, and as it says below, spending money on grants to Climate Change activists to promote their activism.  None of this or the other things mentioned below fall inside their legitimate functions, and they are spending taxpayer dollars in ways that demonstrate arrogance and bias.  Time for Congress to get into them in a very serious way. --Del)

Worth Reading: Get Out of My Class and Leave America. By Mike Adams
Excerpt: Welcome back to class, students! I am Mike Adams your criminology professor here at UNC-Wilmington. Before we get started with the course I need to address an issue that is causing problems here at UNCW and in higher education all across the country. I am talking about the growing minority of students who believe they have a right to be free from being offended. If we don’t reverse this dangerous trend in our society there will soon be a majority of young people who will need to walk around in plastic bubble suits to protect them in the event that they come into contact with a dissenting viewpoint. That mentality is unworthy of an American. It’s hardly worthy of a Frenchman. Let’s get something straight right now. You have no right to be unoffended. You have a right to be offended with regularity. It is the price you pay for living in a free society. (Dr. Adams has tenure, of course.  Otherwise he would be writing out his resignation from the university right after submitting this for publication. He does do a lovely job on the whole "don't offend me!" and "no microaggressions!" PC idiocies.  I do wish every student would get to hear something like this on the first day of school --Del)

A Clash Over Teaching Islam to 7th Graders in Tennessee “There is a big difference between education and indoctrination,” argues congresswoman. By Rod Kackley
This is maybe the 5th or 6th article I've seen in the last couple of years about the teaching about Islam in public schools.  The bottom line is simple, students are required to go into tremendously detailed learning about, and some role-playing in, the tenets and practices of idealized Islam.  Yet their learning about no other religion of the many majors in the world (Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism) goes into a fraction of the detail as the various memorizations and exercises in Muslim practice.  Nor does any of the learning go into the history of Islam's spread exclusively by conquering armies, nor little details like the official second class status of women in the system. Why would educators feel the need to teach about this one religion in such detail while neglecting all the others?  And as the commentator mentions, if students were told to do Christian prayers and act out Christian ceremonies extensively in class, there would be a stampede of ACLU lawyers and others to file lawsuits about it. Studying comparative religion is a part of a good educational program, but then you need a text which allots each religion roughly the same amount of coverage, and discusses their variations objectively.  Thus the history would cover how Christianity divided into various sects, just like the Sunni-Shia split in Islam, or the variations in how Judaism and Buddhism are practiced.  There might be shorter sections on smaller religions, like the Mormons, Christian Scientists, and some coverage of the Native American religions.  This is how objective education works, and not the way we're hearing some schools and texts are giving such emphasis to Islam.  The reasons behind such emphasis are hard to understand, but really don't matter.  --Del

Rescue is the very minimum we can do to help these victims of genocide.

John Kerry Predicts Millions Of "Climate Refugees" Will Need Special Status
Excerpt: International organizations, like the United Nations, he admitted, would have to codify the term “climate refugee” and put it into law. That would grant special immigration privileges to immigrants claiming refugee status, allowing them to move to other countries.  “I think it’s just a matter of time before it fits in under a category and countries have — and the refugee process has legitimately incorporated it into our policy,” Kerry said. Not-to-be-missed political news and comment

Book Recommendation: Rendezvous with Destiny: How Franklin D. Roosevelt and Five Extraordinary Men Took America into the War and into the World by Michael Fullilove
This well-written, well-researched book is a must for history and political buffs. Fulliove details how FDR used five special envoys-- Sumner Welles, Bill Donovan, Harry Hopkins, Wendell Willkie and Averill Harriman--as special envoys to Europe to educate himself on the real situation and decide if it was worth betting American Aid on Britain and the USSR before we were in WWII. They also educated European leaders, especially Churchill and Stalin, on FDR's thinking, US support for defeating Hitler and the domestic political situation in the US. By December 7 we were already waging ideological and economic war. The information they passed to FDR was instrumental in passing Lend Lease, which provided a lifeline to Britain. While I think the author is clearly an admirer of all six men, that doesn't nor stop him detailing their flaws and errors. This book will fill in a lot of gaps in your knowledge of that period.

Must Read: Why Is There Global Poverty? By John C. Goodman
Excerpt: Now here is the good news. In the last quarter of the 20thcentury, countries around the world turned away from collectivism and began to liberalize their economic systems. Country after country turned to privatization, deregulation, liberalized international trade and freer markets. The results have been stunning. As the chart below shows, 80 percent of the world’s worst poverty (people living on the income equivalent of less than a dollar a day) was eradicated in the past 40 years. Nothing like that has ever happened before. (“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.”  --Robert A. Heinlein

Worth Reading: Divided, They’ll Fall. The Democrats could be coming apart. By Fred Siegel
Excerpt: The Black Lives Matter movement, financed, in part, by billionaire George Soros, rebuffed the Democratic Party’s attempts to win its formal favor—even though the resolution put the Democrats on record as supporting “the hands up, don’t shoot” mythology that emerged from the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. On the anniversary of Brown’s death, the Washington Post published a long article finding that the “vast majority” of the 585 people killed by the police during the first seven months of 2015 were armed with deadly weapons. Moreover, most were white or Hispanic. Just 24 were unarmed black men. Nonetheless, a virulent anti-police campaign ensued after Ferguson, leading police in cities such as Milwaukee, St. Louis, and Cincinnati to back off from enforcement. St. Louis police chief Sam Dotson calls this “The Ferguson Effect.”

Excerpt: White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday that the U.S. airstrike on an Afghanistan hospital where aid workers were operating was a "profound tragedy" and President Obama wants a "full accounting of what transpired" -- but clarified that the Justice Department is not involved in any investigation after earlier saying it was.

In 1965, A Conservative Tried To Keep America White. His Plan Backfired
Excerpt: Fifty years after its passage, it is clear the law definitively altered the complexion of the U.S. population. In 1965, the immigrant share of the population was at an all-time low. Eighty-five percent of the population was white, and 7 out of 8 immigrants were coming from Europe. By 2010, the share of the U.S. population born overseas had tripled, and 9 out of 10 immigrants were coming from outside Europe.

Worth Reading: : Michael Gerson commentary: Obama’s gun speech nothing but posturing
Excerpt: Even if you support “common-sense gun legislation” (as I do), there was nothing in Obama’s speech that effectively argued for it. No policy proposals or serious justifications. No one listening to the speech would be persuaded to take a position he or she did not already hold. Obama was saying, in essence, that it is obvious what we should do about mass gun violence, that evil people are blocking it and that they have innocent blood on their hands. This is apparently what some liberal people think when anger releases them from civility and rationality. Obama speaks as if the gun laws he wants passed would put an end to these killings — a position for which there is no evidence. I believe that more thorough background checks and further restrictions on the type and firepower of weapons, along with improved health services for the severely mentally ill, would be good for our society, apart from mass killings. (It’s a great point, but Obama’s lack of interest in seriously engaging with those who disagree with him has been obvious for some time now -- going back to his “I won” declaration in his first negotiations with Congressional Republicans. When the president wanted to pass Obamacare, he resorted to the Cornhusker kickback and reconciliation as public skepticism and opposition remained solid. Immigration reform is enacted by executive order. The Iran deal gets rammed through despite House and Senate majorities opposing it; Obama dismissed opponents as warmongers who make “common cause” with Iranians chanting “death to America!” When the Senate wouldn’t confirm his nominees, he just declared them “recess appointments” even though the Senate wasn’t in recess. Earlier this year, he dismissed his opponents as “the crazies.” His discussion of ISIS featured a lecture to Christians to get off their “high horse.” Obama’s entire presidency is marked by statements and behavior that suggest he’s willing to engage and negotiate with the world’s most brutal regimes, like Iran, but he finds his American critics and opposing lawmakers too silly, extreme, or malevolent, inherently beyond the pale. --Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt.)

Why Obama is Opposed to Israel - by Bishop E. W. Jackson, Sr.
Excerpt: The classic left wing view is that Israel is the oppressive occupier, and the Palestinians are Israel 's victims. Obama is clearly sympathetic to this view. In speaking to the “Muslim World," he did not address the widespread Islamic hatred of Jews. Instead he attacked Israel over the growth of West Bank settlements. Surely he knows that settlements are not the crux of the problem. The absolute refusal of the Palestinians to accept Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state is the insurmountable obstacle. That's where the pressure needs to be placed, but this President sees it differently. He also made the preposterous comparison of the Holocaust to Palestinian “dislocation”.

Forget about changing the Second Amendment. And stop focusing on mass killings. By Greg Sargent, Washington Post.
Excerpt: I chatted about these ideas today with Adam Winkler, a professor of Constitutional law at the University of California who is the author of “Gunfight: The battle over the right to bear arms in America,” an even-handed history of guns in America and the political, legal, and policy battles over them. Interesting: Trump Wrongs the Right. By RICH LOWRY & RAMESH PONNURU
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/425010/donald-trump-lowry-ponnuru
Excerpt: Consider only these facts: Trump has been leading the polls for the Republican presidential nomination for months, and he basically never says “freedom” or “liberty.” He gives no indication of caring about the Constitution. He talks only sparingly about the federal debt. He has, in short, ignored central and longstanding conservative tenets that seemed to have become only more important in the tea-party era — and he has not only gotten away with it, but thrived (so far). How is that possible? Trump is truly a different kind of political phenomenon. He is supposed to be an outrageous right-winger, but he draws support fairly evenly across all factions of the Republican party and is heterodox or indeterminate on key policy questions.

Excerpt: "I came to this country for freedom and I cannot believe this is happening all over again in this country," she continued. "I don't know what happened to America, the Shining City on the Hill for freedom." She also warned against Americans comparing their children and their "education" to those being indoctrinated in China. "I am telling you, Chinese children are not trained to be independent thinkers," she said. "They are trained to be massive skilled workers for corporations. And they have no idea what happened in Tienanmen Square in 1989 where government ordered soldiers to shoot its own 1,000 students."

Worth Reading: What Should Be Next For The GOP: An Alternative To Obama Policies. By John C. Goodman
Excerpt: That brings us to the most important missed opportunities. It’s been five and a half years since the passage of Obamacare. In all that time: Congressional Republicans have yet to unite behind an alternative to Obamacare. Worse, they haven’t even held hearings on how Obamacare might be replaced. Worse still, they haven’t even held serious hearings on the worst problems in ObamaCare – problems that desperately need fixing with some kind of replacement. To top it off, the Republicans haven’t been able to articulate a vision describing what health care would look like if they were ever in charge. This is not a John Boehner problem. This is a party problem.

Fact Check: Are mass shootings really becoming routine? Examining the president’s claim that gun violence is worse in the United States than everywhere else By DANIEL JAMES DEVINE
Excerpt: In June, the fact-checking website PolitiFact rated Obama’s comments “mostly false” because they failed to recognize mass shootings that have occurred in other nations with populations much smaller than the United States. In Norway, for example, Anders Behring Breivik killed 80 people in a July 2011 shooting and bombing rampage. Germany has seen at least six mass shootings since 2000, including one in 2009 when a teenager with a gun fired on teachers and students in a secondary school.

What Obama doesn't understand about Oregon shooter Chris Mercer

From the Left: Jeb is cooked: Why megadonors’ millions (probably) aren’t going to save Bush’s disastrous campaign
Excerpt: In Iowa, Republican Jeb Bush leads Clinton by 10 points in a hypothetical general-election match up among registered voters, 50 percent to 40 percent, and Donald Trump is ahead of her by seven points, 48 percent to 41 percent - essentially unchanged from the poll's results a month ago. And Carly Fiorina leads Clinton in the Hawkeye State by 14 points, 52 percent to 38 percent.

Hillary Calls for New Laws That Wouldn’t Have Stopped the Oregon Shooter. By Jim Geraghty
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/425095/hillary-calls-new-laws-wouldnt-have-stopped-oregon-shooter-jim-geraghty
The Oregon shooter bought his guns legally. So did the Roanoake, Virginia shooter. The Tucson shooter passed a background check. The Aurora, Colorado shooter bought all of his guns legally. Hillary blamed the Charleston shooter’s ability to buy a gun on a “loophole in the Brady Bill.” It wasn’t a loophole in the law; it was that local and FBI officials simply didn’t do their job correctly:

Survey: Crooks get guns from pals, don't keep them long
Excerpt: In a survey of almost 100 detainees in the Cook County Jail, few said they get firearms at gun shows or through the Internet, said Harold Pollack, co-director of the crime lab. They also said they don’t normally steal guns or buy them at a licensed store.

1) Fits the profile of an Obama supporter perfectly 2) Secular, hated religion so much he asked each student if they were Christian...if they were he shot them in the head, if they weren't he shot them in the legs 3) Mercer was one of millions of the "Obama Generation"...25 years old, unable to find a career job in Obama's economy, still living at home with his mommy. 4) Going to community college and sucking down big student loan dollars (which taxpayers will now have to pay off since with his death) 5) Mixed raced minority, which made him eligible for a whole host of favorable hiring quotas and free minority scholarships....fits the perfect profile as one of Obama's "sons". 6) Ignorant liberal who embraced wholly Obama's agenda of "conquer, divide and promote economic and racial hate" 7) Lived in a state that had just enacted strict gun control laws, such that the college was guarded by two unarmed security personnel, thus making it impossible for anyone to defend themselves against those who flaunt the gun laws and make their enactment laughable.

Islamic State murders 12 Christians for refusing to renounce Christ
Kind of like the Oregon shooter. ~Bob

Excerpt: According to a Swarthmore College student’s op-ed, the real reason that people make fun of pumpkin-spice lattes is that our society thinks everything girls like is stupid because “girls don’t get to have valid emotions.” “It all comes back to sexism,” Min Cheng writes in a piece for The Phoenix, Swarthmore’s official student newspaper. “People love to hate on what girls like.”

U.S. vs. Russia: What a war would look like
Excerpt:  With the launch of airstrikes in Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin instigated a proxy war with the U.S., putting those nation's powerful militaries in support of opposing sides of the multipolar conflict. And it's a huge gamble for Moscow, experts say. (This is a VERY long and in-depth article.  It lays out the difficulties for both the Russians and us, though I think it minimizes ours.  It also takes no account of the importance of the lack of willingness to do battle on our side.  If "we"--meaning the administration--aren't willing to defend our interests, we will surely lose them.  --Ron P.)

Worth Reading: Pope Burnout. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: A fair-minded person might infer from his advice that capitalism is more prone to impoverish than to create enough wealth to bring the underclass out of poverty. Yet the poor in the free-market United States are mostly better off than the middle classes in Pope Francis' homeland. Argentina's statism has transformed one of the most resource-rich countries in the world into an impoverished nation. Are the wages of socialism therefore less than Christian? Authoritarian regimes such as the Castro dynasty in Cuba or Iran's theocracy do not receive much criticism from the pope for their administration of state justice. Yet Francis blasted capital punishment, which in America is mostly reserved for first-degree murderers, not the perpetrators of thought crimes as in Cuba and Iran.

ISIS Cuts Off Fingertips of 12-Yr Old Christian Boy
Excerpt: A spokesperson for Christian Aid said, “In front of the team leader and relatives in the crowd, the Islamic extremists cut off the fingertips of the boy and severely beat him, telling his father they would stop the torture only if he, the father, returned to Islam. When the team leader refused, relatives said, the ISIS militants also tortured and beat him and the two other ministry workers. The three men and the boy then met their deaths in crucifixion." Eight other aid workers were separately executed for refusing to denounce their faith. In front of a crowd that was summoned to watch, two of the workers, women aged 29 and 33, were raped before all eight were beheaded. (These barbarians are a total waste of oxygen and should be annihilated from the planet. --JB. Comment from the Pope? ~Bob)

Why Hillary Clinton’s gun-control push puts Bernie Sanders in a bind
Excerpt: Earlier this year, Slate's Mark Joseph Stern referred to that vote by Sanders as being for "the most reprehensible pro-gun legislation in recent memory." But Sanders, Stern acknowledges, had an existing record of support for gun owners and opposition to expansions of gun regulations. As our David Fahrenthold noted in July, the NRA actually helped Sanders get elected to Congress.

Why Hillary Clinton is more progressive than Bernie Sanders, in one sentence
Excerpt: Bernie Sanders attracted a 20,000-person crowd in Boston over the weekend with his uncreative wish list of a platform, in which college would be free for all, Social Security would be expanded for all and medical coverage would be highly subsidized for all — regardless of whether you actually need the help. Hillary Monday against “progressives” who propose shoveling public benefits at rich and poor alike. One sentence in particular drew a clear distinction between her campaign and Sanders’s: “I am not in favor of making college free for Donald Trump’s kids,” she said,...

The Untold Story of JFK's Sister, Rosemary Kennedy, and the Disastrous Lobotomy Ordered by Her Father
Excerpt: After the secret surgery, it would be another two decades – after Joe became incapacitated by a severe stroke in 1961 – before any of Rosemary's eight siblings would learn the truth about their sister's disappearance: she was living at a Catholic facility for the mentally disabled in Jefferson, Wisconsin, hidden from public view.

Immigration Crisis in Hungary

The pen, phone, and stray voltage. By Major Garrett, CBS
Excerpt: The White House saw the contentious wrangling over the dimensions of the gender pay gap nationally -- even the gnawing over male/female pay disparities at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave -- as a gift. A gift the White House wrapped for itself. ... This is the White House theory of “Stray Voltage.” It is the brainchild of former White House Senior Adviser David Plouffe, whose methods loom large long after his departure. The theory goes like this: Controversy sparks attention, attention provokes conversation, and conversation embeds previously unknown or marginalized ideas in the public consciousness.

For decades, the government steered millions away from whole milk. Was that wrong? By Peter Whoriskey
Excerpt: In fact, research published in recent years indicates that the opposite might be true: millions might have been better off had they stuck with whole milk.
Scientists who tallied diet and health records for several thousand patients over ten years found, for example, that contrary to the government advice, people who consumed more milk fat had lower incidence of heart disease.

Australia: Jihad murderer got his gun at mosque. By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org

Bangladesh: Muslims attack Christian pastor with knife, attempt to slit his throat

How Islam Creates Sociopaths
When I was getting my degree in Middle East Studies (1968-70), terrorism against western victims was a new and small, if tragic thing. However, if you look at this article, the author, a psychologist, confirms the cultural attributes of the Arab society I documented. (I'm sure I still have that paper.) And now these cultural norms have metastasized under Islamism into the pervasive phenomenon of today. It may be impossible to change this in situ, but it should inform our immigration policies and our educational systems. With the demographics we have in the United States at present, we can make a difference here. And thankfully, there are many, many Muslims here who have bought into our culture of tolerance and the supremacy of civil law. (It should be noted that radical Muslims are legally organizing politically under our laws, http://architectguy.me/2015/10/05/star-spangled-shariah-the-rise-of-americas-first-muslim-brotherhood-political-party/?utm_source=Israel+List&utm_campaign=c9a72890a4-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_6e1c03f903-c9a72890a4-142433513). Two elementary schools in the Edina Public Schools district in Minnesota have spent $30,000 to hire “recess consultants” in order to make kids’ playtime “more inclusive.” (We are raising a nation of victims, and it will not be long before we all become victims to Jihadists, China, Russia, Drug Cartels and the growing Culture of Barbarism in our cities. ~Bob)
