Guns, Jihad and more fun political news

Worth Reading: Our Social Justice Armed Forces (Part II): Going to the Field. By Tom Kratman
Excerpt: At this point, your humble reporter from the future will interject a compressed version of part of what happened on the road march. On the captain’s order the company moved out at a reasonable pace, maybe a little slower than the normal two and a half miles an hour one might expect, but really not appreciably slower. Then, once the company had passed a bend in the road where the press couldn’t see them anymore, they stopped altogether. Why did they stop? Well, it took a little time for the women – all but a couple of the tougher ones – to empty their rucksacks, hand over the heavier bits of gear to the men, then blow up waterproof bags to give the rucks the appearance of being both full and heavy. The transfer of heavy equipment, the machine guns, radios, and chunks of mortar went quicker. When the women’s load was reduced to what they could hope to carry, usually not more than forty pounds, and the men’s load had gone up to something approaching the maximum they could hope to carry, something over one hundred and sixty pounds, the company took off again at a slightly more brisk pace, maybe three miles an hour. (Tom Kratman is a retired USA LtCol, an occasional contributor to this blog, and an outstand author of military science fiction, including the A Desert Called Peace series. I expect that in 20 years they will move his novel Caliphate to the history section. ~Bob)

North Korea’s claims it tested a hydrogen bomb draw skepticism, condemnations
Excerpt: World leaders sternly criticized North Korea on Wednesday for carrying out a fourth nuclear test, an explosion that Pyongyang claimed was an. However, there was a considerable amount of skepticism about the North's assertion. Nuclear experts and the South Korean military saying that the size of the blast was consistent with an atomic explosion, not an enormous hydrogen bomb.

Obama's Pet Rapists: Germany shocked by Cologne New Year gang assaults on women
The mayor of Cologne has summoned police for crisis talks after about 80 women reported sexual assaults and muggings by men on New Year's Eve. The scale of the attacks on women at the city's central railway station has shocked Germany. About 1,000 drunk and aggressive young men were involved. City police chief Wolfgang Albers called it "a completely new dimension of crime". The men were of Arab or North African appearance, he said. (Hillary Clinton, November 22, 2015: "Every survivor of sexual assault deserves to be heard, believed and supported." Unless of course, the alleged rapist is Muslim or Bill Clinton. Besides the seizure of Infidel girls and their use as sex slaves is sanctioned in the Qur’an. According to Islamic law, Muslim men can take “captives of the right hand” (Qur’an 4:3, 4:24, 33:50). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war” (33:50). 4:3 and 4:24 extend this privilege to Muslim men in general. Every culture is equally valid the liberals tell us. ~Bob.  )

Cover-up claim over NYE mass sexual assaults
Excerpt: Men of ‘Arab background’ were likely responsible for sexual assaults on dozens of women in central Cologne over the New Year, police said on Monday - as a social media storm accused police and media of a cover-up.

India: Muslims torch cars and loot police station over Hindu “hate speech.” By Robert Spencer,
Excerpt: The only catch is that no one is actually sure what Kamlesh Tiwari really said. But even the allegation that he said something offensive to Muslims has been enough to touch off these riots, and true to form, authorities are blaming him, rather than those who go mad and burn and pillage over the slightest critical word.

Multiculturalism Update: Norway: Oslo Police: “We Have Lost the City”
Excerpt: Sturla Nøstvik (36) did not suspect any danger when the barrel of a pistol was smashed into his forehead. That was the beginning of fifty minutes of hell as a hostage of the robbers. The women are being raped at night in Oslo, and the men are robbed more than ever. In just the past ten years more than 4,000 people have been robbed in the town center and the area of the Grønland police station [an immigrant ghetto]. Most of them are young men. Sturla Nøstvik is robbery-victim 351 from Grønland just from this year, the same period in which around fifty assault-rapes have been reported in Oslo. The robbers play on fear, violence, and severe threats that leave a mark on the victims. Police superintendent Inge Sundeng in Grønland describes them as the “somewhat-forgotten victims”.

Interesting: A Look at Where Countries Stand in Saudi Arabia-Iran Dispute
Excerpt: The White House has urged Saudi Arabia and Iran to not let their dispute derail efforts to end the Syrian civil war, while President Barack Obama's administration also hopes to see the Iranian nuclear deal through. (I understand Obama has sent a stern note to both sides vowing that if necessary he will bow and apologize until they give in. ~Bob)

The boy is heartbreaking: Militant in Islamic State Video Believed to Be British Bouncy Castle Salesman
Excerpt: The video also features a young boy wearing a black bandanna around his head and army-style camouflage clothing, threatening in English to "kill the kaffir (unbelievers) over there". Sunday Dare, a Londoner of Nigerian origin, identified the child as his four-year-old grandson Isa. Dare told British media his daughter, who grew up a devout Christian named Grace before converting to Islam and changing her name to Khadijah, had taken London-born Isa to Syria with her to join Islamic State.

Interesting: Get the U.S. Military Out of Afghanistan Now
Excerpt: In spite of all the time, money, training, and equipment we have given the Afghan security forces in the last 14 years, they still find themselves outgunned, outmanned, and outwilled. The current fight within the Obama administration is whether Obama will slow play the withdrawal of the remaining 10,000 or so United States troops who are still in Afghanistan. The current plan is for roughly half the U.S. force to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2016, although some in the administration are pushing for a slower withdrawal. It is pretty obvious at this point that unless we are willing to re-enter Afghanistan with a full-scale invasion force (spoiler: we aren’t), then the exact speed at which the remaining 10,000 U.S. troops withdraw isn’t going to make a lick of difference in the end. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth the life of another single United States soldier, or another single United States taxpayer dollar, for us to continue to be involved in the dispute over which brand of Islamic hellhole Afghanistan will end up being. Given the national course that we have clearly chosen, it’s time for us to get the last of our forces out sooner, rather than later. (Obama 2008: Afghanistan is a war of necessity, a war we have to win. "When the Taliban Come back." ~Bob)

Must Read: Hating the West, Inc. Western elites and Third World critics both enjoy Western largesse. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Professing dislike of the West and its culture and legacy is an industry on campus. The subtext of “white privilege” is that it consists of unearned status accorded those of European background. To listen to the anti-Westerners, you would think that the inventors of electrical generation, indoor plumbing, and vaccinations were enemies of the planet. Multiculturalism, the orthodoxy of popular culture, and the current bite of the media and the arts are all predicated on the idea that Western civilization is more toxic than admirable. Citing the evils of the European tradition can also provide exemption from an occasional politically incorrect gaffe. And assuming a non-Western identity (ask Elizabeth Warren, Ward Churchill, Rachel Dolezal, or Shaun King) can offer career dividends. American society lavished scholarships on the upper-middle-class prep-school graduate Barack Hussein Obama but perhaps would not have done so much for just another Barry Dunham. It is not surprising that when George Zimmerman had been in a fight with Trayvon Martin, his scars were photoshopped away and his 911 call racialized. Would that have happened had he chosen to go by the name of Jorge Mesa?

North Carolina Muslim suspected of aiding Islamic State, Hamas and al-Qaeda busted for child porn
Excerpt: Few things are more abundantly attested in Islamic law than the permissibility of child marriage. Islamic tradition records that Muhammad’s favorite wife, Aisha, was six when Muhammad wedded her and nine when he consummated the marriage:

Islamic School Projects
Excerpt: The Islamization of America is proceeding at speed as the political and educational elites are desperately playing catch-up with Europe’s looming immigration and refugee disaster. However, there are no doubt electoral and fiscal considerations that would profit, on the one hand, the political fortunes of the Democrats (as well as “fundamentally transforming” America according to Obama’s sinister intentions), and on the other, the financial prospects of those involved in migrant resettlement programs and of employers seeking a low wage labor force....The education establishment is no less complicit. Common Core, which has been enthusiastically embraced by both Brahmin  and shudra, effectively mandates the study of Islam, which often takes precedence over the traditional focus on American and Western history. (Might find sealed college documents indicating someone received Saudi funds as a foreign student now in high office....per rumors. --Barb)

Fixing the Wrong Problem: Obama executive action to require background checks on more gun sales
Excerpt: President Obama's series of executive actions on guns will require background checks for those purchased from dealers even if they're bought online or at gun shows, the White House announced Monday. (How many of the recent mass shootings were with guns bought on line or at gun shows? San Berdo? No. Charleston? No. Sandy Hook? No. Name one. I don't really have a big problem with this, but it fixes a problem that doesn't exist and you know it won't stop there. The goal is to disarm the decent, law-abiding people so the Jihadists, criminals and city thugs will have free rein. The worst mass shooting in the US took 442 lives and left 2,995 total shot. How come Obama, Hillary and the media aren't focused on that, especially since most of the victims were black? Oh, yea--it was in Chicago, took place spread out over 2015 and most of the shooters were black as well. Nothing to see here, move along. Dr. Thomas Sowell points out that in the entire 1930s decade, 119 blacks were lynched in the entire Jim Crow South. A tragedy and a national embarrassment, of course, but that's about the three month total of blacks murdered by blacks in Chicago lately. Don't those black lives matter at all? I could fix the problem. A National law that if you are carrying a gun and are a felon, you get five years, no parole. If you use a gun to commit a crime, ten years, no parole. If you murder someone with a gun, life, no parole. But given that blacks are heavily over-represented in crime and murders, that would put even more blacks in prison. But it would save black lives among their victims. See: Both sides are wrong on the gun debate. Here's why. By Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry ~Bob)

Marco Will Reverse Obama’s Executive Orders Assaulting Gun Rights

Well sourced with facts: You Know Less Than You Think About Guns. The misleading uses, flagrant abuses, and shoddy statistics of social science about gun violence. By Brian Doherty
Excerpt: Finding good science is hard enough; finding good social science on a topic so fraught with politics is nigh impossible. The facts then become even more muddled as the conclusions of those less-than-ironclad academic studies cycle through the press and social media in a massive game of telephone. Despite the confident assertions of the gun controllers and decades of research, we still know astonishingly little about how guns actually function in society and almost nothing at all about whether gun control policies actually work as promised. ... The gun murder rate in 1993 was 7.0 per 100,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. (Those reports rely on death certificate reporting, and they tend to show higher numbers than the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting program, though both trend the same.) In 2000 the gun murder rate per 100,000 was 3.8. By 2013, the rate was even lower, at 3.5, though there was a slight upswing in the mid-00s.
This simple point—that America is awash with more guns than ever before, yet we are killing each other with guns at a far lower rate than when we had far fewer guns—undermines the narrative that there is a straightforward, causal relationship between increased gun prevalence and gun homicide.

Worth Subscribing To: Obama Touts His Gun-Control Regulations, Because It’s the Easiest Option. By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
Excerpt: The president’s going to spend this week discussing gun control. Because it’s what he loves to do, apparently. ... Just as the drunk looks for his lost keys under the streetlight because that’s where the light is, Obama focuses his energies where it is easiest. Never mind that the Sunni–Shia world war is kicking into a higher gear. Never mind that ISIS is advancing in Libya. The Syrian regime continues to use chemical weapons from a program that President Obama said had been eliminated: ... For those keeping score at home, we now have allegations of use of sarin, sulfur mustard, chlorine gas, and possibly “Agent 15,” also known as BZ or 3-quinuclidinyl benzilate. There are allegations of chemical-weapons use on about 60 separate occasions. Never mind that the Chinese markets are crashing, suggesting the world economy is slowing which will eventually mean an economic slowdown here. Economists are suddenly slashing their predictions for growth. “Plenty” of people who thought Obamacare would fix everything are finding the premiums and deductibles so expensive, paying the penalty looks like a better option. But fighting ISIS, stabilizing the Middle East, building a prosperous economy, undoing the damage of Obamacare -- all of that stuff’s hard. Obama would much prefer taking a victory lap over his decision to “tweak a few minor rules around the edges” -- our Charles C.W. Cooke’s assessment -- than to actually address any of these serious, worsening problems.

WaPo Fact Checker: Obama’s claim that Internet gun sellers ‘operate under a different set of rules’
Excerpt: We agree that Obama’s language is slippery and could be confusing to the average person who doesn’t know anything about FFLs and interstate requirements. There is nothing unique about the Internet; the laws governing private transactions and interstate sales are exactly the same. It’s the same as offering to sell a gun on a bulletin board, except the bulletin board is significantly larger. The Internet, and electronic payment systems such as PayPal and bitcoin, have certainly facilitated transactions that in the past would have been more difficult to arrange. Obama erred in saying the rules are different for Internet sellers. They face the same rules as other sellers — rules that the administration now says it will enforce better. Two Pinocchios.

Obama’s Gun-Control Plan Includes Gun-Ban For Some Social Security Beneficiaries. By Ayr Hwkins
Excerpt: The White House released a fact-sheet Jan. 4 which previews the executive gun control Obama will unveil Tuesday and one aspect of the new controls is the inclusion of “information from the Social Security Administration in the background check system about beneficiaries who are prohibited from possessing a firearm.” On July 18 Breitbart News reported on Obama’s push to ban gun-possession for Social Security beneficiaries who are believed incapable of handling their own finances.

What a Natural Disaster Taught Me About the Second Amendment and Why It’s More Important Than Ever. By Brad Schaeffer

Excerpt: There’s a good reason why we have the Second Amendment — it gave citizens the ability to defend themselves, their family and their property with their own means. The 21st century Left doesn’t want law-abiding folk to have that kind of power. ... The unstated thing that matters is ensuring America becomes where the stereotypical gun owner can no longer be a gun owner, and their way of life is extinguished. (Per article, Obama cited Communist China as an example to follow; noted to have a Mao Christmas ornament (Isn't that an oxymoron?) on tree in WH at beginning of his term.  Yes, the TRANSFORMED AMERICA should resemble Communist China. --Barb)

Actually, bringing up the concept of logic while talking to the antigun people is like talking to a rabid dog about playing fetch.  You're not going to make any kind of connection. Recently in Raleigh, three young hoods got into some kind of shooting incident, and one of the stray bullets killed a two year old child.  So the mayor of the nearby town of Cary immediately decided she wanted the state to allow her to override the laws as they are, and forbid the carrying of concealed weapons by authorized citizens in the city parks.  How she can make a connection between three bad guys using guns illegally in their city neighborhood and killing an innocent child and good citizens who've had the full background check and taken the mandatory safety course being deprived of their right to carry in a public place is one of those mysteries for which the only clue is rampant antigun fanaticism.  It's never been about guns, it's always been about control. --Del

HIPAA? Of Tyrants and Tyranny
Excerpt: And are there protections built into the new HIPAA rule being promulgated by the President? Apparently not, since it leaves additional State Prohibitor classifications up to the States to determine, promulgate and share with the Feds as they see fit. Add to that there is no Federal process noted in the HIPAA rule that calls for prior notification to gun owners of a State Prohibitor designation, and one gets the sneaking suspicion that one can end up committing the serious crime of attempting to purchase a firearm when one has been listed as having a Federal or State Prohibitor status. In many cases, conviction for such an attempt may end up with a felony judgement, which in turn permanently ends one’s right to keep and bear arms for the foreseeable future.

Showman-in-Chief. By Dr. Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: Those who have been marveling at Donald Trump's political showmanship were given a reminder of who is the top showman of them all, when President Barack Obama went on television to make a pitch for his unilateral actions to restrict gun sales and make a more general case for tighter gun control laws. It was beautifully choreographed, like a great ballet, and performed with consummate skill and understated eloquence. First of all, the scene was set with a room full of people who had lost loved ones to gun violence. A father whose son had been gunned down made a long introduction before the president showed up, walked down the aisle and up on to the stage to growing applause.
As political theater, it put Donald Trump's rantings in the shade. As for the substance of what Obama said, there was very little substance, and much of it false, but one of the signs of great artistry was that the presentation overshadowed the substance.

DC Media Cover-Up: Actually, Obama and Hillary Have Said They Want to Confiscate Guns

Obama pretends to be bewildered by the environment of hatred he created
Excerpt: Today Barack Obama stood before a gaggle of idiots and channeled John Boehner. ...He channels Boehner and sets loose a torrent of crocodile tears carefully summoned to convince you that he really cares about something other than himself.  He doesn’t, of course. (If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.  You can keep your insurance plan.  It will cost you less.  I know people who still dote on this dude; not sure what planet they live on.  So, if you like your guns, you can keep your guns, except DOJ and Lynch (what an appropriate name, right up there with Earnest) will demand you register; back door registration by executive fiat.  Then the confiscations will start. ~Bob)

From the Left: Are Liberals Responsible for the Rise of Donald Trump? By Kevin Drum
Excerpt: Even those of us on the left feel the wrath of the leftier-than-thou brigade from time to time. I don't generally have a hard time avoiding objectionable language myself because (a) I'm liberal, (b) I'm good with words, and (c) I write rather than talk, which gives me time to get my act together. But even at that, sometimes I cross an invisible line and get trounced for it. But for someone without my advantages, I can easily see how it might feel almost impossible to express an unpopular opinion without tying yourself in knots. And let's be honest: We liberals do tend to yell racism a little more often than we should. And we do tend to suggest that anyone who likes guns or Jesus is a rube. And the whole "privilege" thing sure does get tiresome sometimes. And we do get a little pedantic in our insistence that no conversation about anything is complete unless it specifically acknowledges the special problems of marginalized groups. It can be pretty suffocating at times.

Dear Black America: You are not special. by Ryan Douglas
Excerpt: What in the hell are you thinking? What in God’s name has possessed you these last few tumultuous years? What could have possibly taken over your mind and replaced it with the rampant ignorance I see today? What is it about your blackness that gives you a free pass to be so incompetently ignorant? Black America, before you even ask the question, yes, I am a black man. Yes, I have hazel eyes that tend to change color depending on my mood. That would indicate that I am mixed. But to the entirety of the world, the first thing you or anyone will see is my colored skin, and you will know that I am a black man. I didn’t know my biological parents until the later years of my life-black statistic #1. My biological mother birthed me out of wedlock (black statistic #2) and my biological father, whether by chance or choice, was not around-black statistic #3. I didn’t even have a name. I was born, I was alive, but without a name, I had no identity. But my real parents, the ones who adopted me, they gave me a name. They raised me. They taught me right from wrong.

Federal judge: Drinking tea, shopping at a gardening store is probable cause for a SWAT raid on your home
Excerpt: The investigation leading to the raid began at least seven months earlier, when Robert Harte and his son went to a gardening store to purchase supplies to grow hydroponic tomatoes for a school project. A state trooper had been positioned in the store parking lot to collect the license plate numbers of customers, compile them into a spreadsheet, then send the spreadsheets to local sheriff’s departments for further investigation. Yes, merely shopping at a gardening store could make you the target of a criminal drug investigation.

Beware Of Banking Animus. By Jonathan Macey
Excerpt: The problem with the popular animosity towards banks is that politicians respond opportunistically to it in ways that do serious harm to the economy and thus to the very populations to whom they are pandering. The hatred of banks provides an opportunity for politicians to get favorable publicity and to promote their careers by proposing legislation that hurts banks. But reality conflicts with emotion. The credit card businesses of Bank Hapoalim and Bank Leumi accounted for almost 15% of each bank’s net revenue in 2014. It is highly implausible to think that stripping banks of core competitive businesses will lower fees and rates. During the New Deal, bank hatred manifested itself in the form of the Glass-Steagall separation of commercial banking and securities dealings, despite the fact that banks with securities activities were significantly less likely to fail than stand-along banks. The “repeal” of Glass-Steagall in 1999 is blamed for the financial crisis of 2008, despite the fact that the core provisions of Glass-Steagall that separate banking from securities activities, Sections 16 and 21 of the law, were never repealed.

Mr. Obama, if You Care About Dead Kids, Why Do You Fund and Celebrate Abortion?
Excerpt: In a extravagantly theatrical speech, surrounded on stage by the families of murder victims who he’d turned into human props for political purposes, Obama railed against the gun lobby, Republicans and dumb Americans who care too much about the Second Amendment. ... We don’t yet have universal background checks, and it’s not yet at the point where your therapist can summarily remove your Second Amendment rights if you mention that you’re feeling a bit depressed or anxious at the moment, but these measures lay the groundwork for those eventualities. Most of all, they lay the groundwork — or I should say they fortify the already existing groundwork — for presidents to hurtle right over the legislative branch and make laws all on their own.
