Must Read: The Migrant Sex Assaults: 'Uncovered Meat.' By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org
Excerpt: It is also in Islamic law: "When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the woman’s previous marriage is immediately annulled. (Umdat al-Salik O9.13)" The Egyptian Sheikh Abu-Ishaq al-Huwayni declared in May 2011 that “we are in the era of jihad,” and that meant Muslims would take slaves. In a subsequent interview, he elaborated: "Jihad is only between Muslims and infidels. Spoils, slaves, and prisoners are only to be taken in war between Muslims and infidels. Muslims in the past conquered, invaded, and took over countries. This is agreed to by all scholars -- there is no disagreement on this from any of them, from the smallest to the largest, on the issue of taking spoils and prisoners. The prisoners and spoils are distributed among the fighters, which includes men, women, children, wealth, and so on.
When a slave market is erected, which is a market in which are sold slaves and sex-slaves, which are called in the Qur’an by the name milk al-yamin, “that which your right hands possess” [Koran 4:24]. This is a verse from the Qur’an which is still in force, and has not been abrogated. Themilk al-yamin are the sex-slaves. You go to the market, look at the sex-slave, and buy her."

Worth Reading: Germany on the Brink. By Ross Douthat, New York Times
Excerpt: Such a transformation promises increasing polarization among natives and new arrivals alike. It threatens not just a spike in terrorism but a rebirth of 1930s-style political violence. The still-imaginary France Michel Houellebecq conjured up in his novel “Submission,” in which nativists and Islamists brawl in the streets, would have a very good chance of being realized in the German future. This need not happen. But prudence requires doing everything possible to prevent it. That means closing Germany’s borders to new arrivals for the time being. It means beginning an orderly deportation process for able-bodied young men. It means giving up the fond illusion that Germany’s past sins can be absolved with a reckless humanitarianism in the present.

Harmless Refugee: Istanbul bomber believed to be Syrian national
Excerpt: Turkish officials say a 28-year-old Syrian national carried out Tuesday's suicide bombing that has left 10 people dead and 15 injured in Istanbul. (Gee, I wonder why people are scared of Obama's plan to bring 100,000 Syrians here? ~Bob)

Germans Killed: Turkey: 10 die in suicide blast in Istanbul Sultanahmet district
Excerpt: At least 10 people, most of them German tourists, have been killed in an explosion in a central area of Istanbul, Turkish officials say. They say a Syrian national carried out a suicide bomb attack in the Sultanahmet district, near the city's famous Blue Mosque. And Germany plans to take in a million more Syrians--or pretend Syrians--this year. There will be blood. ~Bob)

Deploy the Obama Apology Brigade: Two U.S. Navy boats in Iranian custody but crew will be returned ‘promptly’

Millions for terrorism, not one cent for snooping! Iran confiscates GPS equipment from seized Navy boats, says it will “prove that the American ships were ‘snooping'”

10 U.S. sailors detained by Iran freed
A more serious president and administration would ask if this sort of provocation calls for a different approach to Iran, and whether the nuclear deal has made Iran more confrontational and hostile instead of less. But because incidents like this don’t fit the narrative, the president chose to simply not acknowledge it in his State of the Union address. --Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt.

Obama's Partners: Islamic Republic of Iran executed 1,084 in 2015, leads world in state-sanctioned executions
Excerpt: Since the election of President Hassan Rouhani, who was celebrated by many in the West as a moderate reformer, executions in Iran have soared, hitting record numbers in each of the last several years. The U.N. recorded 753 executions in 2014, though some human rights organizations have claimed that the number is higher. Iran executed an American citizen in November. ... A large number of those executed are from religious minority groups, such as Christian converts, Bahá’í adherents, Sunni Muslims, and Kurds. Political dissidents have also been targeted by the Iranian regime, often being executed after legal proceedings that international observers have deemed as unfair. Iran also remains one of the few nations to execute children and minors, as well as women claiming self-defense against rapists and homosexuals…. (Shari'a Law. ~Bob)

Calif. man said he felt 'good’ after shooting mom, slicing out her heart: documents
Excerpt: He said he then left the room, only to return with a tomahawk which he used to bash her head. He then retrieved a revolver from a closet and shot her in the back about four times. Using a knife, he then sliced open her chest, removed her heart with his hands and then put it back in her body. He then masturbated because "he needed to be with himself and needed a release after the event," according to the documents. ... The detective said he spoke with the victim's family, who said that the mother and son had not been getting along. They also said that "it is well known that the family has seen a change in Omar since he has returned from Morocco several months prior to the murder."

Sacrificed In Benghazi. By Ray DiLorenzo
Excerpt: The truth of the attack on Benghazi on September 11, 2012 has been a stone in the right shoe of President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and former CIA Director David Petraeus.  It is no wonder the stone continues to cause soreness and irritation; they won’t remove it.  The usual suspects have seen fit to obfuscate, bewilder and conceal from Congress and the American people what really happened that night. (I again owe this article to the guys at Special Operations Speaks, who are the total champions of the Benghazi Four: "Please help Special Operations Speaks protect the rights, benefits, and privileges earned by active duty Military personnel and Veterans.  Please contribute to https://specialoperationsspeaks.com/campaign-contribution/donate-sos-pac-w9 I'm sorry to say it seems there will never be justice for those men.  All the people who made decisions that kept them from having any chance of being saved will only answer in the next life to the Final Judge, because they're getting away with it here.  One of them is even running for President and has ignored this subject and talked around it beautifully.  The media has been complicit in not covering it, and too many others as well want it whitewashed and forgotten.  I'm only in hope that the great movie now out about the 13 Hours will keep the questions open and have more people wonder about who was really at fault. --Del)

God Bless: The 'Rosa Parks' of Saudi Arabia
Excerpt: The deluge of racist abuse that came at the end of December was just the latest flurry in a long campaign. The trolls have had al-Hawsawi in their sights for years. They send her pictures of gorillas, grotesquely photoshopped African tribespeople, and they call her the A word - a derogatory Arabic term for black people which means "slave", not dissimilar in meaning to the N word. Good Riddance: Al Jazeera America news channel to close up shop
Excerpt: Al Jazeera America, the low-rated cable news network that sought to take on Fox News and CNN, will shut down operations at the end of April, less than three years after going on the air, the network told its staff Wednesday in a surprise move. .... The New York-based network, part of a media empire owned by the royal family of the Persian Gulf state of Qatar, launched in August 2013 after its parent company paid $500 million to buy Current TV, a struggling cable channel founded by former vice president Al Gore. Muslim Immigrants in Minnesota ‘Grooming’ and Forcing Local Teens into Sex Trade

Interesting: On Migrants, Has A Lightbulb Gone Off In The Vatican?
Excerpt: As migrants flood Europe and their EU enablers dive for cover, even Pope Francis has shifted tone, conceding that the latest wave undermines the continent's "humanistic spirit." Has a light gone on at the Vatican? The Pope's address to the Vatican diplomatic corps on Monday wasn't exactly a U-turn, and to be sure it came with lots of the usual exhortations about caring for widows and orphans. But there was significantly stronger recognition of the reality that Europe's migrant wave is largely an organized invasion of young Mideast men who mean to wreak havoc. "Given the immense influx and the inevitable problems it creates," he said, "a number of questions have be raised about the real possibilities for accepting and accommodating people, about changes in the cultural and social structures of the receiving countries, and about the reshaping of certain regional geopolitical balances." (I am now somewhat reassured that Pope Francis does have a mind open enough to real events to allow him to rethink matters somewhat when there's enough evidence that previously cherished ideas might need to be reconsidered.  Now if Frau Merkel can only follow suit and rethink things a bit....  but so far that doesn't seem to be in the cards. Meanwhile, all the mounting evidence of thought out plans of action for groups of men in quite a few European cities to play this little game of grope-the-girls has brought out some very strong statements from police officials.  All of this has only strengthened to push by more citizens to object to the policies that have brought this mess to be.  However, so far the governments and media have insisted on labeling anyone who objects in any way as being racist, Islamophobic, and of course, Far Right.  I wonder how large a fraction of the population has to object before the media have to acknowledge it's not just all nasty hooligans, biker gangs, and would-be Nazis who are crying out. --Del)

FORENSIC PROFILER: OBAMA ACCEPTS ISIS ATTACKS: 'In fact, he has constructed a new normal by failing to protect America'
Excerpt: President Obama, despite his promises the U.S. “will not relent in the ISIS campaign” and his assurance that the world would not accept extremists’ attacks, such as that in Paris, actually is saying he is doing nothing of real consequence, “In fact, accepting the ISIS attacks as normal.” ... In fact, he remains totally submissive to ISIS.” ... Hodges previously said Obama revealed through his Iran deal, a “destructive rage beyond belief” that should be alarming to the world because of its implication for the balance of nuclear-weapons power. (In essence, the opposite of what he says is what he means.  "The US is strong" = "The US is weak" (exemplified by the "incident" with our troops shown kneeling with hands on heads, bootless and with the female forces to wear a towel on her head while in uniform).  "Our economy is strong" = "Our economy is weak."  Helps one translate the SOTU...or the portions one hears excerpted. --Barb)

Interesting: Attkisson: ‘Overwhelming Body of Evidence’ Benghazi Rescue Teams Turned Back
Excerpt: Attkisson said, “We also spoke to sources and have some email evidence that talks about special forces that were not far away in Europe that we were told were assigned to respond in the event of a case just like this, and yet were turned back according to witnesses. This is something that the president and the White House has steadfastly denied, but there’s now what I would call an overwhelming body of evidence that leads us to believe that somebody stopped a number of teams and potential rescuers from entering Libya or going to Benghazi to help while those attacks were underway. They could have gotten there. According to experts and people that have information we spoke to, they could have gotten there before the last two Americans died. Those attacks went on for eight hours.” (I have always believed that no help was sent because the administration feared that a firefight would lead to Muslim civilian deaths, thus to anti-America riots in Muslim countries, so it was better to allow Americans o die than risk a Muslim reaction that would have undermined Obama's campaign message that he ended the war in Iraq and had al Qaeda on the run. ~Bob)

Experts skeptical of Kuwait's commitment to keeping latest Gitmo detainee from battlefield return
Excerpt: Many defense experts argue that the transfer of terror suspects, like Kandari, to their homelands ensures "without a doubt" their return to a radicalized life aimed at harming the U.S. and its allies. "The likelihood of their returning to jihadism is extraordinary high," said Gen. Jack Keane, a retired four-star general and a Fox News contributor. "When the number [of inmates] dropped below 200, most people know we're dealing with hardcore, true believers not prone to be rehabilitated," Keane, former vice chief of staff of the U.S. Army, told FoxNews.com Wednesday. (Note comments from a "retired" general. --Barb)

Worth Reading: What Obama Got Wrong in the State of the Union. By Rob Kuhlman

Worth Reading: Making America Grate Again. By Jonah Goldberg
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/429677/obamas-sotu-fail
Excerpt: If you knew nothing about Barack Obama’s presidency and how he has conducted it, you could be forgiven for thinking this was a reasonable, albeit liberal, and even uplifting State of the Union Address. But after seven years of unrelenting presidential condescension, insults and cynicism, it’s very difficult to take his sermons against cynicism and incivility seriously. Cut through the rhetoric and the message was the same as ever: If you agree with me, you’re reasonable.  It was all so tediously familiar and grating I couldn’t wait for it to end (much like Obama’s presidency). I lost track of the straw-men and false-choices.

Haley calls for ignoring the ‘angriest voices’ this election season
Excerpt: South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley on Tuesday used the official Republican response to President Obama’s final State of the Union address to indirectly chastise GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump by urging her party to ignore the “siren call of the angriest voices.” While she did not call Trump out by name, she delivered a more inclusive message than what the business mogul is pitching on the campaign trail, where he has called for temporarily barring Muslims from the country and building a wall between the United States and Mexico.

Fact Check: Top 10 Lies in Obama’s State of the Union
Excerpt: 1. “[W]e’ve done all this while cutting our deficits by almost three-quarters.”This is pure fiction. Obama has doubled the national debt, and it’s not because he cut the deficit. Rather, he spent staggering amounts of money in his first months in office–which he assigns, dishonestly, to the previous fiscal year, under George W. Bush. He “cut” (i.e. spent more gradually) from that spending, but only under protest, after Republicans took the House in 2010. (Update: It is true that Obama’s 2015 budget deficit was about 25% of his 2010 deficit. But he referred to “deficits,” plural. Until last year, all of Obama’s deficits were worse than all of Bush’s deficits except for the last two.)

Obama: ‘America Is the Most Powerful Nation -- Period’
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/429671/obama-america-most-powerful-nation-period

Excerpt: n the 21st century, doctrinaire liberalism is synonymous with hypocrisy. Or maybe it is better seen as career insurance, providing exemption from all the many paradoxes of a leftist worldview. The rich supporter of affirmative action still uses, without apology, the old-boy network to pull privileged strings to get his own son admitted to the proper college. Al Gore flies on a carbon-spewing private jet, saving the planet by getting to conferences more quickly and enjoyably. High-tax proponent John Kerry docks his yacht where he can avoid taxes; how else to ensure downtime for furthering social justice? A spread-the-wealth Obama, who warns others about making too much money and profiting at all the wrong times, nonetheless chooses the tony haunts of the moneyed and privileged — the Hawaiian resort coast, Martha’s Vineyard, Rancho Mirage — in preference to the old Chicago hood or even Camp David.

Interesting: Hillary Clinton says she’s ‘not nervous at all’ about Bernie Sanders. She should be. By Chris Cillizza, Washington Post
Excerpt: Clinton should ABSOLUTELY be nervous about the state of the race with less than three weeks before voters in Iowa head to caucuses. There are warning signs almost everywhere she looks that suggest that the Vermont socialist is gaining momentum at exactly the worst moment for Clinton's chances at winning the nomination.
The new New York Times/CBS News national poll shows Clinton as a significantly diminished front-runner and Sanders as the surging insurgent. The 20-point lead she held a month ago has now been snipped down to single digits by Sanders.

Hillary Clinton’s latest attack on Bernie Sanders shows she’s a rotten candidate

Feel the Bern: Heilemann: Chelsea's Claim Sanders Would 'Strip Millions' of Health Insurance a 'Lie
But as flawed and dangerous as single-payer is, Sanders’s plan only “dismantles” Obamacare, CHIP, Medicare and private insurance to replace it with taxpayer-funded care for everybody. Chelsea’s pointing to only one-half of Sanders’ agenda in order to make it look like he wants to unplug Grandma from the respirator and snatch away Tiny Tim’s cane. Perhaps we shouldn’t be stunned that Chelsea Clinton, former NBC News reporter under the tutelage of Brian Williams, is running around telling stories that are exaggerated to the point of falsehood. Alternately, maybe Chelsea inherited the shameless lying gene from both sides. --Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt. I’ve covered the Clintons since 1991. It takes a lot to surprise me. I am stunned watching Chelsea Clinton go on the attack. Stunned. Never seen anything like it. And the attack, which her mother is making as well, they’re trying to attack Bernie Sanders from the left on health care, when he supports single-payer. I mean, I’m stunned, I’m stunned by the whole thing. I will say, you and I spent a couple days in Iowa. We saw Bernie Sanders. We saw the event last night. There is no doubt Bernie Sanders has built something real. There’s no doubt that she has too, but the stakes for her now are immense. I think that she’s building up Iowa and New Hampshire. I guess she feels they feel they have no choice. So I think attacking him and going after him is smart, but the way they’re doing it, I don’t think is smart. -- MARK HALPERIN

State Department discovers 'thousands' of previously undisclosed Clinton documents
Excerpt:  The watchdog group Judicial Watch has been suing the State Department for years to turn over public records related to Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state, the Clinton Foundation, the employment arrangements of Clinton’s top aides, and her response to the Benghazi attack. According to the State Department, the newly found records are likely to include information relevant to Judicial Watch’s requests. Worth Reading: The Obama era has damaged liberalism. By Michael Greson
Excerpt: Obama is the first Democrat since Franklin Roosevelt to win back-to-back majorities of the national popular vote. But members of his party who venture beyond the 18 acres of the White House will find political ruin. Since taking office, Democrats have lost 13 Senate seats, 69 House seats, 11 governorships, 30 state legislative chambers and more than 900 state legislative seats. In border states that not long ago produced national Democratic leaders — such as Arkansas and Tennessee — the Democratic collapse is especially pronounced. Few presidents have done better for themselves and worse for their parties. And perhaps most disturbingly for America’s liberal party, trust in government to do the right thing is near historical lows. According to a Pew Research Center average, just 19 percent of Americans trust government to do the right thing all or most of the time.

On foreign policy, Obama was ‘behind the curve’
Excerpt: A more promising source of assessment is the opinions of high-level officials who actually participated in recent events. Here, there is already a small library of reluctant but harsh judgments. The most recent comes from Chuck Hagel. In an interview with Foreign Policy’s Dan De Luce, Obama’s former defense secretary let loose on a White House that micromanaged the Pentagon while “deferring the tough decisions.”

Obama finally meets those ‘bitter’ Americans who ‘cling to guns’
Excerpt: But at a CNN town hall meeting last week, the president came face to face with victims of gun violence who don’t agree with his efforts to limit their gun rights — and who, politely and respectfully, spoke truth to power.

What the Oregon Standoff Is Really About. Forget the Bundys and "terrorism"—the real crime is what federal bullies do to ranchers like the Hammond family. By Justin Raimondo
This is a great story, if a depressing and maddening one, but it deserves to be spread far and wide, and get a lot of letters to Congress.  The oppressive and abusive use of power by federal bureaucrats is what caused the Founders to fight to create this nation, and to see it in operation so badly here now is a travesty of what America is supposed to be. As much as I am not wild about gun carrying militia threatened violence implicitly, I think this cause is one worth a lot of support from all over this country.  Not just for the Hammonds, but for all of us and the future generations. --Del

The Meaning of Sex. Even on campuses, nature and culture cannot be wished away. By PETER WOOD
Excerpt: Attraction. Pleasure. Attachment. Reproduction. Fulfillment. What is the meaning of sex? The answer lies somewhere in the way we integrate the biological imperatives with the emotional and experiential realities. I’m not going to improve on that answer in the next few pages, but I’ll complicate it a bit. Recently a young woman at Dartmouth College, having had sex for the first time with a man, reflected that she had “lost her virginity.” Then she put that thought on hold: “Virginity is just a total social construct,” she told her interviewer. Her story appeared in the college’s student newspaper. (I really like this reflection on what has happened to the idea of sex over the past decades.  Sure, as a young adult back from the war I was not looking for marriage, wasn't remotely ready for a deep relationship, and engaged in some short term romantic relationships.  (Let me stress the romantic bit... I never wanted to just be another "user" of women.)  But I always knew that ultimately life is better with a partner, and looked forward to finding that person, and count myself blessed for having succeeded in that. The concept of some romantic relationships not leading to marriage is one thing, but the "hook up culture" and devaluation of sex as nothing more than a physical pleasure with no other meaning is, I think, unfortunate and doesn't serve either society or most individuals well in the long run.  I think it'd be a really good idea for young men and women to give sex a lot more meaning than we see so often in movies, on TV, and with some people in the public eye.  We are, after all, at least something more than just animals. --Del)

Court: Wearing unearned military medal is protected by Constitution
This is sickening.  Now it's a "right" to wear a military medal you didn't earn?  The courts have been expanding the concept of "free speech" widely, starting with burning the flag, a physical act, as speech.  I am a zealous guardian of the key freedoms, including speech, but to allow someone to publicly lie about themselves in a way that disrespects all those who earned, the hard way, the distinctions of military awards, is not protecting free speech, it's enabling a travesty. We need to have a lot of judges replaced by those with something like common sense. I wonder what would happen if someone used their Free Speech to say, in a very public way, that they wish fervently that some fatal accident would befall the current President.  No actual threat or promise to do anything, just the kind of input that some might consider encouraging nasty thoughts.  The way that wearing a medal falsely encourages nice thoughts about the wearer.  Maybe I'm just imagining things, but somehow I think that would get some attention and the same judges would not agree that such Free Speech is really OK. --Del. So, I can still wear the "V" on my Good Conduct Medal? I wonder if wearing a judge's robes and pretending to be a jerk is protected? ~Bob

'Messing With the Constitution.' By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: In recent years, a small but growing number of people have advocated a convention of states to propose amendments to the Constitution of the United States. The reaction to the proposal has been hostile, out of all proportion to either the originality or the danger of such a convention. The political left has been especially vehement in its denunciations of what they call "messing with the Constitution." A recent proposal by Governor Greg Abbott of Texas to hold a Constitutional convention of states has been denounced by the Texas branch of the American Civil Liberties Union and nationally by an editorial in the liberal "USA Today." The irony in all this is that no one has messed with the Constitution more or longer than the political left, over the past hundred years.

Interesting: Administrative Fixes Won’t Rescue Obamacare’s Broken Exchanges. By John R. Graham
Excerpt: Yesterday, Mr. Slavitt spoke at the J.P. Morgan health conference in San Francisco, using the opportunity to announce some important new initiatives, including responding to the failure of Obamacare’s exchanges. Although sugar-coating his diagnosis, Mr. Slavitt clearly knows exchanges are in trouble. Too many old and sick people are signing up; and healthier and higher-earning and people (who do not benefit from tax credits which discount premiums) are staying away or dropping out, despite penalties for doing so. The plans are not worth the premiums these resisters would have to pay. Plus, if they get sick they can enroll without penalty at the next annual open enrollment (something they could not do if they remained in the pre-Obamacare individual insurance market. In most states, if they became sick, they would be charged a much higher than standard premium).

Hillary Clinton Emails Prove She Knew Exactly what She was doing when She set up Private Email Server
Excerpt: The latest Clinton email dump by the Obama State Department may well prove to be the last nail in Hillary Clinton’s political coffin. Why? It holds several interesting tidbits (the most damning of which shows Clinton commanding her underlings to strip “classified” identifiers from the data and then to send it on to her “unsecured”), but the one I want to deal with today has proof that she knew exactly what she was doing when she set up her private email system.

Bernie Sanders Will Win the Democratic Nomination and Presidency in a Landslide

Worth Reading: One Day In The Life Of An Urban Teacher: Most of the people promising big things out of urban schools have not actually taught in them. Visit my halls for one day, then tell me if any education fad can help.
My best friend from High School, Charles Hofmann (who died in December from a fall) was a lifelong Democrat, voted for Obama, Clinton etc. He was a chemist with the same company for 33 years. When they downsized, he got a teaching certificate and was hired to teach chemistry in an inner city, mostly black Philadelphia high school. But he remembered how it was when we went to HS. When two-thirds of the class did no work at all and failed the tests, he failed them. Including the basketball team. The parents screamed "racism," Charles (see below) was fired and the kids who had learned zero chemistry were given passing grades. What goes around...~Bob

No! Bernie Sanders Wants White People to Apologize for Slavery... Now.
My Great Great grandfather, Sgt. Oliver Vernal, served throughout the war with the 6th. Conn. Vol. Inf. to put down the slave power. He as badly wounded twice, and had no kids at the time, so I almost lost my life too in the fight against slavery. As Dr. Thomas Sowell points out, every society had slavery. Only western civilization turned against it. During the period when 500,000 black slaves were brought to N. America, a million white Europeans were kidnapped into slavery in Muslim N. Africa. Whites were being sold as slaves in Cairo as late as the 1880s. No, I don't think I have anything to apologize for. ~Bob
