Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for March 25, 2013

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for March 25, 2013
Robert A. Hall
Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Outdoor Channel pulls out of Colorado over Guns
Letter from the Executive Producer to a Colorado State Senator. ~Bob. God Bless them for standing up for all of us. Shame on Colorado politicians for being so ignorant. --Red Woman. In the past several months, two very liberal Democrat friends have revealed to me that they own handguns. Both of them have serious “personal defense” type, high capacity 9mm or .40 cal pieces. One Glock, and one Springfield Armory. The guy with two pistols (a 9mm and a .40), also owns a BUSHMASTER .223/5.56 NATO ASSAULT RIFLE, ala NewtownCT. He specifically said that when the financial system collapses, he doesn’t want to be the only one that doesn’t have a gun. He bought the 9mm because the .40 was too much for his teen-aged daughter to handle well. He also gas a 12 ga. pump shotgun. He even agreed with Wayne LaPierre that the only thing that will stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. The other guy is black, and has an old 16 ga. Browning Auto-5 shotgun his father gave him, as well as the 9mm Glock. We have a beer session planning to discuss the gun ownership issue. I’ll let you know what comes of that discussion. Rather than call them out as hypocrites. I simply said, “You’re the last person I would have expected to own a gun”. Then there’s the fellow I’ve been shooting with for 20 years. He’s died-in-the-wool Democrat, and will defend every Democrat position like a parrot. Yet, he collects guns, modern and antique. He has a Curio and Relic license from the BATFE so he ship old guns direct, and receive them WITHOUT filing any paperwork (Form 4473 from BATFE). Obviously, there are still lots of Democrats who are NRA members, and lots of Democrats that shoot. This is not strictly a partisan issue. A recent radio program on NPR discussed how it breaks more on regional lines, rather than Party. Signs like the one below are not going to help convince them to listen to reason on this issue, or any of the underlying assumptions that Democrats use on other issues. Just another example of how Democrats consistently press for how they want other people to behave, but refuse to apply it to themselves. Meanwhile, with Homeland Security (another government agency with an oxymoron for a name), is buying up all this ammo we’re reading about. What you may not know is that this has apparently diverted production away from consumer-oriented ammunition and reloading components. I have been reloading rifle, pistol, and shotgun ammunition since I was a teenager. Powder, primers, bullets, and other necessities have never been as hard to find as they are right now. Every outlet is backordered. Even .22 rimfire ammo is scarce and expensive. Another black shooter friend of mine calls it “gun control without legislation.” Small wonder that people are hoarding. I am not in any position to buy up a lot of stuff like that, but the situation probably won’t change unless the Regime does. --Steve

Worth Reading: Some federal grants are just monkey business. Amid the sequester, a senator crusades against government waste: $227,000 to look at old National Geographics? By John Kass
May need to use the free log=in. ~Bob. Excerpt: Would you turn down a job paying $227,000 if all you had to do was look at animal photos in the National Geographic magazine? Of course not. And if you did, you'd be a certified moron. There can't be much stress in staring at animal photos, even of baboons with red behinds.

Massachusetts lawmaker 'took pictures of his genitals and put them on a female coworker's computer'
Excerpt: A state representative in Massachusetts is being investigated after allegedly sending pictures of his genitals to a government computer. The investigation is ongoing and the committee has not formally reprimanded the individual in charge, but it is being widely reported that Democratic State Representative John Fresolo is the one behind the scandal. (He was probably stung by criticism that Democrats have no cojones, wanted to disprove the slander. ~Bob.)

Amarillo Gun Show From a Marine Buddy
From Thomas: A friend of mine went to the Gun Show at Amarillo, TX Civic Center. It was an all-day show with lots of guns and high prices. It looked like people were buying mostly hand guns – and a lot were just looking. Thousands of people there and hundreds signing up and joining the NRA! The best sign he saw there was at a booth that read: If You Voted For Obama, We Do Not Want Your Business. You're Too Stupid To Have A Firearm!"

Michael Moore's rant at Harry Reid for dropping the ban on so-called "assault rifles."
During a CNN interview, Michael Moore ripped into Harry Reid, saying, "If a man with an assault weapon goes into the school where Harry Reid's grandchildren [attend] and kills his grandchildren, would he stand in front of that microphone … and say, '…my grandchildren just got killed today but, you know, we can't get it passed because we don't have the votes.' Would he do that really? I don't think so." My response to Michael Moore would be: In a sane world, if a man with an assault weapon goes into a school that my grandchildren attended, that man would DRT (Dead Right There). Shot by the armed security guard at the school's entrance. Of course, with a Marxist president having a democrat majority in the senate, it's not a sane world.- LLW

[You'd last about five minutes]: The Selfishness of Virtue. Jim Goad
Excerpt: But the only thing that could make me change my mind would be if [multimillionaire leftist] Katrina vanden Heuvel were to actually give all of her immense wealth to the poor and go live in a Harlem housing project amid roaches and crackheads and welfare queens. For once in your life go and get your hands dirty trying to uplift your imaginary comrades. You’d last about five minutes. (This is so right. It is the leftists' wealth we attack when we point out the disastrous effects their policies have had on our lives. That's why they become so indignant and start shouting. People do get angry when you even hint at threatening their source of income. How lovely to live in a nice house, and look out upon a pretty garden, and even better, to follow a routine during the day, a routine that will not be interrupted by even one single lunatic. These well-off leftists themselves, rather than one whacko after another, get to decide what to do with their own time, resources and energy, and they get to do that all day, every day. We almost never get to do that. These wealthy leftists can cook breakfast in the kitchen without an aged lesbian rubbing her breasts up against them, without a guy straight out of rehab putting his hands all over them. They sleep through the nights because there aren't any illegals next door shouting all night long or firing pistols into their ceilings. These leftists can hear themselves think any time they like, due to the fact that they are not immersed in incessant noise. They have never once in their life been stalked. Not even once. They have plenty of places to go where they will never be harassed for sex, for money or food or their clothing or their homework or anything else. When we point out the every day facts of our miserable lives to them, that's when their shouting starts, because they don't want to know. They cannot imagine what we have to endure, and they do not care to imagine, because that threatens the wealth that sustains the cozy, gentle, placid, peaceful, quiet, neat and (cleaned by someone else) bubble in which they live. What they wanted out of life was to go into denial about their lack of marketable skills and to live very pleasantly indeed, and to feel good about themselves at the same time. In that they have succeeded. Too bad about people like me, people like us, who pay for the leftists' overweening self-satisfaction in the currency of sleep deprivation, sexual harassment, sexual molestation, sexual assault, thefts, the utter lack of privacy, unceasing noise, stalkers, the inability to find even a tiny little job that could lift us out of this situation if only the leftists hadn't closed so many businesses and handed so much money over to people who don't deserve it. Nowhere to go, nowhere to go to get away from it, no house on the hill for us. --Kate.)

Joe Biden runs up bill of $585,000 for just ONE NIGHT in five-star Paris hotel (and taxpayers will pick up the tab). By Meghan Keneally
Excerpt: Paris may be known as the City of Light, but that title certainly doesn’t mean that visitors are light on spending as Vice President Joe Biden’s one day trip cost taxpayers more than half a million dollars. When Mr Biden and his hefty entourage stayed in Paris for an evening in early February and it cost $585,000.50 for that single night. The Vice President likely rented out more than 100 rooms in the Hotel Intercontinental Paris Le Grand, though they must not have gotten a group discount rate. (OK, what's crazy here is this- it was 136 rooms. If the rooms each cost $1000 for the night (seems pretty damn generous, unless there were girls in some of them), that would mean a bill of $136,000. But the bill was just about $460K, more than three times higher. Rooms for $3000+ per night for everyone? How in hell is that possible? --Del. PS- of course... it was the Room Service that did it! But even with a Security detail I have to wonder why 135 other sets of people (remember, you can have more than one in a room) had to accompany the VP. I'm not picking on Joe in particular, I'm wondering what in hell goes on with our government and trips these days. It seems like every trip involves incredible numbers of people traveling. Maybe it was like this with Bush's trips for all I know, but no matter who was traveling, why does it take an army to go with them now? And why can't they get a group rate or find places remotely reasonable in cost? Well, this would be an outrage to the media, OWS and the Progressives if it was some rich member of the One Percent were spending money he earned himself by meeting consumer needs. But a Progressive Government Official spending tax money to live large? Not so much. ~Bob.)

BRITISH expats living across Europe were warned last night to take their money out of foreign banks in the wake of the Cyprus financial crisis.
Excerpt: Ukip leader Nigel Farage told the party’s spring conference that savings held in countries where the euro is the currency are no longer safe. His warning came as Cyprus last night gave in to EU and International Monetary Fund demands for a 20 per cent levy on deposits over 100,000 euros at the Bank of Cyprus and a four per cent levy on deposits of the same amount at other banks. (Hell, I'm not sure they are safe here. It's not like they would tell us before they strike our savings and retirement funds. ~Bob.)

A Marine remembers his time in Iraq. By Will Cole
Excerpt: Ten years ago this week, the Iraq war started. I remember picking up our light-armored vehicles from Port Doha in Kuwait as the war kicked off. Our company of Marines unloaded the “pigs” — as we called them — and packed them up as fast as possible so we could catch up to our command unit, the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. Our company was about 24 hours behind 1st LAR, but we caught up quickly. For the next seven months, however, we fought and we endured boredom. (A well written piece by a combat veteran of recent times. But we of older times know whereof he speaks. --Del)

James Burnham's Suicide Of The West
Excerpt: Burnham's thesis is straightforward. ".Liberalism," he writes, "is the ideology of western suicide. When once this initial and final sentence is understood, everything about liberalism-the beliefs, emotions and values associated with it, the nature of its enchantment, its practical record, its future-falls into place. Implicitly, all of this book is merely an amplification of this sentence." That is not to say, Burnham adds, that liberalism is "'the cause'" of the contraction and probable death of Western civilization. ("The cause or causes have something to do, I think, with the decay of religion and with an excess of material luxury; and, I suppose, with getting tired, and worn out, as all things temporal do.") Rather, "liberalism has come to be the typical verbal systematization of the process of Western contraction and withdrawal; .liberalism motivates and justifies the contraction, and reconciles us to it." Liberalism's hold, furthermore, on public opinion and policy makes it extremely difficult for the Western nations to invent-and even to imagine-a strategy equal to the challenge to its existence by which the West is presently confronted. (Interesting that a book written nearly 50 years ago has so much to say about current events in the West. The link below takes you to a detailed discussion of the book, but the paragraph below is one I found most interesting. In it Burnham is saying that Liberalism is not simply the cause of the suicide of the West, but discusses what may be and how things work. Very interesting all in itself. --Del)

Top Ten Obamacare Horror Stories The Media Are Covering Up
Excerpt: Because the mainstream media lobbied every bit as hard as Obama to win passage of ObamaCare, they are every bit as invested in doing whatever is necessary to see that it is perceived as a success. Unfortunately for Americans who expect truth from their media, this means the media are having to manufacture a false reality that says ObamaCare is, to steal a phrase, "doing fine." ... So with that in mind, I present to you (with big hat tips to Drudge and Investors Business Daily) the top ten ObamaCare horror stories the media is willfully covering up. (Almost all of these have been covered in the four previous articles I've circulated on all the juicy items about the reality of Obamacare that are now being revealed. But I thought it worthwhile to pass this on as well, with its useful links to more information. And of course we're all still waiting for the next set of revelations about its actual cost, complexity, and limitations. --Del)

Woman Defends Herself From Intruders: Best Part… She Wasn’t Arrested for Doing So
Excerpt: The homeowner, a female of an unknown age, was hiding in the closet when 18-year-old Christopher Devonte Joseph approached her. The local ABC news report stated that’s when the owner fired her gun and shot the 18-year-old. (If she had just relaxed and enjoyed her rape, as Progressives prefer, this horrible violence would have been avoided. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: Perhaps the worst of the current economy is not what is happening now, but what is to come. When one looks at the value of the American dollar, at first blush it appears we're not doing that badly. But that's only because the rest of the world's currencies are so much worse. We just have a little more rouge on the corpse. In fact, the Fed's orgasmic printing of dollars and the huge amount of American I.O.U's they've issued, and the staggering interest we are currently paying on nearly $17 trillion dollars of national debt, it leaves the American monetary system tighter than the tightest rubber band. Eventually the tension has to be relieved, and every time that tension goes we begin to experience sky high interest rates and runaway inflation, just as we experienced during the Carter years.

Sharia in action in the mainstream media: Muslim gang-rapes across Europe underreported in press
Excerpt: The Qur'an allows for the owning of sex slaves: If you fear that you will not act justly towards the orphans, marry such women as seem good to you, two, three, four; but if you fear you will not be equitable, then only one, or what your right hands own; so it is likelier you will not be partial. (Qur'an 4:3)

Obama: Israelis have true peace partner in Abbas. Abbas: We have the same policies as Hamas. Hamas: Killing Jews is worship that draws us close to Allah.
Excerpt: "Of course, Israel cannot be expected to negotiate with anyone who is dedicated to its destruction. But while I know you have had differences with the Palestinian Authority, I believe that you do have a true partner in President Abbas..." --Barack Obama, March 21, 2013

‘Quarantine her!’ Top Tunisian Islamist says topless girl needs stoning
Excerpt: A Tunisian Salafi preacher has called for a 19-year old girl who posted her topless pictures on Facebook to be “quarantined” and stoned to death before she starts “an epidemic.” (I'm going to hide this poor girl, but for her safety, I'll tell no one. Not even my wife. Can't be too careful. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: Chinese President Xi Jinping warned against foreign interference in the affairs of other nations during a speech in Moscow on Saturday, sending a signal to the West and echoing a message often repeated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Police arrest 2 teens in Ga. baby killing!
Excerpt: A pair of teenagers was arrested Friday and accused of fatally shooting a 13-month-old baby in the face and wounding his mother during their morning stroll through a leafy, historic neighborhood. Sherry West had just been to the post office a few blocks from her apartment Thursday morning and was pushing her son, Antonio, in his stroller while they walked past gnarled oak trees and blooming azaleas in the coastal city of Brunswick. (For God's sake, people, let's stop pussy footing here! OBAMA is the reason for these unmotivated black on white attacks. It all started when he declared Trayvon Martin (actually a young thug) could have been his son--implying that white people hate blacks only because they are black, not because too many of them steal and misbehave. Can't people figure this out? Obama is promoting black on white violence. He is responsible for these senseless killings! Obama may as well have killed that innocent baby himself! Barack Hussein Obama is a merciless white hating monster! --Don Hank. Well, further than I would go. I think he is just indifferent to and death or suffering if he is getting support pandering to the base. A liberal trait, regardless of color. ~Bob. Mother shot in thigh and ear (missed her head), baby in stroller shot in face and killed. Mother and baby white. Teens with guns to take from whitey—black. I know, they look like you-know-who’s sons. One 17, one 14. --Barb. They didn't identify the fourteen year old because he was a juvenile. Isn't that sensitive of them? He may be a juvenile, but he isn't a human being. Don't insult the rest of us by describing these two as human beings. They are not. And don't insult the animal world by describing them as animals, either. They, and those like them are in a classification all their own. They need to forego the trial and just go out back and beat these worthless turds to death with a hammer. Can you imagine what that woman is going through now? --LLW)

Confronting Sharia Law in Belgium. By Soeren Kern
Excerpt: Islamic Sharia law is "incompatible with the fundamental principles of democracy." — European Court of Human Rights. After members of the newly established Islam Party vowed to implement Islamic Sharia law in Belgium, Members of Parliament introduced a bill that would limit the power of Muslim extremists who win elected office at the local or national levels and isolate themselves from the political mainstream. (Things are developing in parts of Europe to the point where there are now official pronouncements by courts about Sharia Law, and politicians are starting to pass defensive measures against Islamic extremism. This article from Belgium, a definitely liberal European nation, reveals a good deal about what is going on and why. -Del)

Excerpt: Forget Cyprus. A much bigger story in the coming weeks and months will be in Japan, where one of the greatest economic experiments in the modern era is about to begin. A country where government debt even dwarfs those of Europe's crisis-ridden nations, Japan will attempt to inflate its way out of a 23-year deflationary spiral.

University Apologizes for “Stomping Jesus”
Excerpt: Florida Atlantic University has issued an apology for a classroom assignment that involving students writing the name “Jesus” on a sheet of paper and then stomping on the paper. The university also said the lesson will never again be used….The university initially defended the Christ-bashing lesson which is included textbook titled, “Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach, 5th Edition.” (Next week, "Stomping Mohammad." Wanna bet? ~Bob.)

Despite sequester, Obama to designate five national monuments
Excerpt: The new monuments will be: the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument in New Mexico; the San Juan Islands National Monument in Washington State; the First State National Monument in Delaware and Pennsylvania; the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument in Ohio and a monument commemorating Harriet Tubman and her role in helping black slaves reach freedom through the Underground Railway in Maryland.

IRS blasted over 'frivolous' parody video of 'Star Trek,' agency admits mistake
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/03/22/irs-calls-tar-trek-parody-video-mistake/#ixzz2ONwDd44b
Excerpt: While taxpayers may be getting used to seeing federal agencies fritter away their money, there's something ironic about the IRS doing it. The tax-collecting agency is under fire over a training video from a 2010 conference that parodied "Star Trek" -- and cost tens of thousands of dollars to make. … The agency says the six-minute video, along with a training video that parodied the TV show "Gilligan's Island," cost about $60,000.

Texas woman's home burned down by snake she set on fire
Excerpt: Bowie County Sheriff's Capt. David Grable says she poured gasoline on the snake to try to kill it. Her son then dropped a lit match on the snake. The engulfed snake slithered into some brush nearby the home. Grable says the brush ignited and started a fire that destroyed the home and damaged one next door.

Rotten Tomatoes for a Billion-Dollar Farm Payout. Calling all women and Hispanics who once thought about applying for a loan. By James Bovard
Excerpt: Are you a woman or a Hispanic who planted a backyard garden between 1981 and 2000? Did you ever dream of asking for a loan for help growing more? If so, you might be a victim of discrimination and entitled to a $50,000 payout from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. But hurry—the deadline for submitting your claim is March 25. (The giveaway program for allegedly discriminated Black farmers gave out many millions of dollars to over 90,000 claimants, when there were no more than 33,000 Black farmers working in the years described. It was one of the all-time super ripoffs of taxpayer dollars in the name of Politically Correct scheming. Now they've invited something like that again, from women and Hispanics. But at least this time they want just a tad of information about their actual farming experience- which has brought on the predictable cries of "discrimination" and "unfairness". Time to get the politics out of this whole farm subsidy mess. --Del)

The Salvation Army, Captain Peacock and the Lefty mega-bores who hate Michael Gove. Damian Thompson
Excerpt: This so-called “workfare” scheme means [benefit recipients] help the [Salvation Army] for a maximum of four weeks – and some of them are so impressed by its Christian witness that they stay on as volunteers while they find real jobs. In the eyes of Boycott Workfare, however, the Salvation Army is “collaborating” in a Tory conspiracy to exploit benefit claimants. Hence their charming old-lady decoy trick, which enabled a bunch of scumbag protesters to push past the reception staff, manhandling them.

Many Unitarians would prefer that their polyamory activists keep quiet
Excerpt: But within the ranks of the UUA over the past few years, there has been some quiet unrest concerning a small but activist group that vociferously supports polyamory. That is to say “the practice of loving and relating intimately to more than one other person at a time,” according to a mission statement by Unitarian Universalists for Polyamory Awareness (UUPA). The UUPA “encourages spiritual wholeness regarding polyamory,” including the right of polyamorous people to have their unions blessed by a minister. (where were they when I was 30? Kind of late now. ~Bob.)
