The Totalitarian Legacy of the Bolshevik Revolution. The contributors to a new book resist “the great forgetting.”
I have met an assortment of modern day communists, from some who call themselves "true socialists" to those who boldly claim to be real communists, great fans of Marx and Lenin. When I have carefully pointed out the failures of communism and pure socialism to them with all the examples so readily available, the answer has always been first, "they didn't really implement properly, next time we'll do it RIGHT", and secondarily, underhanded sabotage from filthy capitalists undermined the system so it could not function as it should have. Yet somehow the fantasy still attracts people, and since they want to believe in its ideals so strongly, they think there must be a way to do it and have it work out well. Fantasies are attractive, but giving into them never works out well. --Del
