Impeachment Would Probably Cost Democrats the House. By JIM GERAGHTY

Impeachment Would Probably Cost Democrats the House. By JIM GERAGHTY
Excerpt: To succeed, it would require at least 13 votes from Democrats representing districts Trump carried in 2016. The New York Times reports that House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler has “gradually become convinced that his panel should proceed with impeachment hearings and do so as expeditiously as possible, though he has not stated so publicly,” citing “lawmakers and aides familiar with his thinking.” Nadler should not be surprised that he’s encountering so much resistance to this idea from House speaker Nancy Pelosi. A great deal has been written about how impeaching Trump — in a move that would by entirely symbolic, insofar as the Republican-held Senate would never convict and remove him from office — could improve his odds of reelection. Less-discussed is the very good chance that it would cost Democrats control of the House.

Documents Reveal Obama State Department Advanced Russian Collusion Hoax Before 2016 Election
Excerpt: Winer has said that during a meeting in Summer 2016, Steele provided him with information that would end up in the dossier. Winer wrote a two-page summary of the information and shared it with others at State. Winer also helped with news stories about Steele’s findings. He served as a background source for reporters Michael Isikoff and David Corn, who were the only two journalists to write stories about Steele’s claims prior to the election. Isikoff published a story for Yahoo! on Sept. 23, 2016 that laid out Steele’s allegations about Carter Page. Corn published a story on Oct. 31, 2016 that quoted Steele anonymously claiming that the Russian government has compromised Trump. Both reporters used Winer to vouch for Steele’s credibility. Other emails obtained through the Judicial Watch lawsuit earlier this year showed that Glenn Simpson reached out to Winer days before Isikoff published his story on Sept. 23, 2016. Winer “is also linked to a second dossier on Trump, this one authored by Cody Shearer, a controversial political operative who is closely allied to the Clintons.” Winer reportedly obtained the “Shearer dossier” from longtime Clinton associate Sidney Blumenthal, and then gave it to Steele, who provided it to the FBI. (Thanks to a Judicial Watch lawsuit, more of the truth is revealed. Ron P.)

Royal Navy Weakness a Warning for America

Royal Navy Weakness a Warning for America
Excerpt: (I)f you want to get to the root cause, it comes down to the fact that evil, genocidal mullahs in Tehran thought they could get away with it. To see why, look at this graphic from the Twitter feed of NavyLookout. This represents the entirety of the Royal Navy’s force of major surface combatants: Six Daring-class guided-missile destroyers and 13 Type 23 guided-missile frigates. The Queen Elizabeth-class carriers are not even ready to deploy. (...) Of the six Daring-class destroyers, only two are actively deployed as of this month. Of the other four, two have been undergoing major refits (significant maintenance to address wear and tear), and two others are undergoing minor maintenance). One has deployed to the Persian Gulf on short notice, the other is preparing to operate in the Western Atlantic. In essence, to have one ship deployed, you really need three hulls to account for upgrades and maintenance. (This is not going to be a quick-fix problem. It generally takes close to TEN YEARS to design, build, commission, and train crews for a new ship (and, frequently, longer) before it can be deployed. Nor can the USA do much to assist the Brits as we have plenty of the same problem, ourselves. Ron P.)

The White Ghetto

The White Ghetto
Excerpt: Owsley County, Ky. — There are lots of diversions in the Big White Ghetto, the vast moribund matrix of Wonder Bread–hued Appalachian towns and villages stretching from northern Mississippi to southern New York, a slowly dissipating nebula of poverty and misery with its heart in eastern Kentucky, the last redoubt of the Scots-Irish working class that picked up where African slave labor left off, mining and cropping and sawing the raw materials for a modern American economy that would soon run out of profitable uses for the class of people who 500 years ago would have been known, without any derogation, as peasants. Thinking about the future here and its bleak prospects is not much fun at all, so instead of too much black-minded introspection you have the pills and the dope, the morning beers, the endless scratch-off lotto cards, healing meetings up on the hill, the federally funded ritual of trading cases of food-stamp Pepsi for packs of Kentucky’s Best cigarettes and good old hard currency, tall piles of gas-station nachos, the occasional blast of meth, Narcotics Anonymous meetings, petty crime, the draw, the recreational making and surgical unmaking of teenaged mothers, and death: Life expectancies are short — the typical man here dies well over a decade earlier than does a man in Fairfax County, Va. — and they are getting shorter — women’s life expectancy having declined by nearly 1.1 percent from 1987 to 2007. (This is a re-print of an article by Kevin Williamson from 16 Dec 2013 in National Review. I must’ve missed this when it first ran or I surely would’ve drawn attention to it then. My earliest years were spent in Gratz, KY (Pop 101 at the time, smaller now, I believe) in Owen County, KY, about 60 to 75 minutes west of where Williamson is writing about. Gratz then had 3 churches, 2 general stores, a garage, a bank, a hotel, and a Masonic Lodge (yes, for about 100 people). Being on the Kentucky River, until the WPA built bridge over the river in the 30s, Gratz was a transportation hub for farmers wanting to ship things by barge. My grandfather then owned a coal yard and received barge-loads of coal which they toted by hand to delivery trucks. Truman was President when I was a small boy. After we left for Indiana (Truman was still President), we eventually went to New Jersey, but frequently visited Gratz over the next two decades. As our lives matured and older relatives died off, those visits dwindled and ended in the middle 1980s. From Williamson’s story, not much has changed. Among the few groups that have survived relatively intact are the Plain People most call the Amish. Life is much closer to the edge, there. Nothing is close by or easy to get at. Even in the 1980s, a lot of older homes still had back yard privies. Ron P.

Neil Armstrong's family received $6 million in malpractice settlement

Neil Armstrong's family received $6 million in malpractice settlement
Excerpt: An Ohio hospital agreed to pay $6 million to Neil Armstrong’s surviving family members to settle allegations that medical malpractice after an emergency heart surgery caused the astronaut’s death, a report said. The New York Times first reported Tuesday about the secret settlement after the paper received an anonymous 93-page document related to Armstrong’s treatment and the legal case. The newspaper was able to confirm the documents were authentic using public records in Hamilton County Probate Court in Ohio.
Armstrong, the astronaut known for taking the first steps on the moon in 1969, died at the age of 82 on Aug. 25, 2012—two weeks after undergoing cardiac bypass surgery at Cincinnati’s Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital. At the time of his death, the family announced publicly that Armstrong had died from “complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures.” Privately, Armstrong’s two sons, Mark and Rick Armstrong, accused the hospital of flawed postsurgical treatment that ultimately killed their father, launching a two-year-long legal battle between the family and the medical institution.
Armstrong underwent cardiac bypass surgery on Aug. 7, 2012. As a standard part of the procedure, doctors implanted temporary wires to help pace his heartbeat as he recovers, the Times reported. “But when a nurse removed those wires, Mr. Armstrong began to bleed internally and his blood pressure dropped.” Doctors took Armstrong to a catheterization lab to drain blood from around his heart instead of immediately bringing him into the operating room, a decision ruled by medical professionals hired by both the Armstrong family and the hospital to investigate the death concluded ultimately killed him.
[As friends know, I have had a cardiac defibrillator since about 2006. About 2010, one of the two “leads”–that each has more than one connection to the heart muscles–“fractured. Broke, in other words. Because of the multiple connections and where the break was located, they were able to switch from one connection to another and continue to march until the defibrillator’s battery ran low (they usually last 3 to 7 years). At that point, about 2011, my doctors changed out the defibrillator but made no changes to the “leads.” About 2016, when the battery was again running low, the doctors decided to ADD a third lead to replace the one that was working without backup. Wondering how much space was available for the leads, I asked the electro-cardiologist–did you realize there was such a specialty? I didn’t–if we should remove the old lead. He said “We can, but usually don’t. It multiplies the risks with little benefit.” So, I now have three leads (with one not attached to the defibrillator). This April, at my normal 3-month check, it was discovered that one of my two working leads had fractured, again. They thought they had another “work-around,” but that turned out to be wrong. It turns out removing those leads is relatively rare and very few doctors have any experience at it.
One of the benefits of living in Massachusetts, close to the UMass Medical School, is that they have some of the finest doctors in the country. The guy who is their leading teacher and most experienced practitioner of lead revision is a Dr. Rosenthal. I am scheduled for a lead revision–as an outpatient procedure–on 2 August. He will be doing the revision. As the procedure was explained to me, the attachment to the heart muscle–which looks like a stretched out coil–is screwed into the muscle. Over time, the tissue around the connection becomes like tough scar tissue, and is quite difficult to break. So, what they use is a little, tiny laser to break the scar tissue so the lead can be unscrewed and removed. It’s delicate, but doable. Most doctors do less than 10 of these in a lifetime; Rosenthal does 50 to 75 every year, and has for years.
I’m going into this procedure with complete confidence and fully expect my brother-in-law to pick me up sometime in the afternoon of 2 August to take me home (they won’t let you drive for a day after all the anesthesia they use). It is possible I will not survive, but it won't be due to the doctor’s lack of training or experience. Bob Hall’s lung transplant was far riskier than this and he now has a job working for the VA. Wish me luck, anyway. I’d rather be lucky than good.
Judging by the newspaper article, either they’ve gotten the nomenclature completely wrong, or “the nurse” who was removing Armstrong’s leads had neither the training nor the experience to be doing something that delicate. And, that in turn, is why the hospital settled the claim for such a large amount of money. Those guys don’t pay off just because someone dies; this is the most likely reason for it.

Cuba, the Healthcare Darling of the International Left, Is Running Out of Medicine

Cuba, the Healthcare Darling of the International Left, Is Running Out of Medicine
Excerpt: The shortage is part of a larger economic crisis on the island that has forced Cubans to stand on lines for hours to buy basic goods like chicken, cooking oil, and flour. Cuba’s repressive communist regime controls the nation’s dilapidated healthcare system, which invests heavily in sending doctors abroad on what survivors of the system call slave missions in exchange for lucrative contracts that fuel the central government in Havana. The Cuban slave doctor system – which provides healthcare throughout Latin America, Africa, and Asia – also functions as a propaganda campaign, successfully earning the praise of global institutions and leftist American celebrities. At home, the Cuban regime actively manipulates health statistics to make the communist system appear more successful than it is. Cuba’s communist economy is by its nature parasitic, unable to function without fueling itself off of the riches of a host. In the 1990s, its original host, the Soviet Union, collapsed, leaving Cubans with little access to food and basic goods. (Comming soon to a socialist USA. ~Bob)

Peace Doesn't Exist. Neither Do the Palestinians by Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Salah Abu Miala, a Hebron businessman, traveled to Bahrain to attend the Bahrain peace conference. When he returned home, he was arrested by the Palestinian Authority. A security official for the Islamic terror group admitted that there was no actual charge. "It was a warning," he said. "He must understand the implications of this sort of collaboration." Collaboration with the United States. The country that set up the PA and lavished billions in aid on it. (It has become an intractable situation.  At this point after all the decades of continually increasing domination of all the Palestinians by powerful, radical, power hungry leading groups (who take a lot of money and do really well for themselves), there is no serious support for the Two State solution, the fanaticism that says just wipe out Israel has taken over more than enough of the people so that those who have any degree of reasonability are now irrelevant.  Mothers are proud to have their kids blow themselves up to kill a few Israelis, or go to jail for years for stabbing one or two.  Hamas demands tons and tons of aid, and uses materials meant to build houses and schools and hospitals to build tunnels.  The brainwashing of the kids starts in kindergarten, and there's always the new crop of fanatics coming up. If I were an Israeli I'd back away from being nice at all.  I wouldn't have collapsed the tunnels, I'd have booby trapped them like crazy to make sure a few more fanatics died in them.  For every rocket coming in, three would come back.  I wouldn't have border guards shooting to kill the guys throwing rocks or gasoline bombs, I'd have then shooting for the groin and kneecaps so they'd survive in bad shape for everyone to take care of.  And Israeli prisons would have to turn into somewhat unpleasant places, with extremely limited visiting privileges.  The only way to get people like this to back off is to get them to where they are actually afraid of you.  And that's not happening.  Israel can forget about trying to get the UN and the international press to be reasonable with them, they will always be the terrrible occupiers.  Sometimes when the other guys give you the name, you may as well embrace it and play the game their way. --Del)

Science’s Untold Scandal: The Lockstep March of Professional Societies to Promote the Climate Change Scare
Excerpt: But things are different now. Whether it be chemistry, physics, geology or engineering, many of the world's primary professional societies have changed from being paragons of technical virtue to opportunistic groups focused on maximizing their members' financial gains in support of the climate scare, the world's greatest science fraud. In particular, they continue to promote the groundless hypothesis that carbon dioxide emitted as a result of mankind's use of fossil fuels is leading to environmental catastrophe. You have been hearing about it for the past decade and more, with 21 candidates for the Democrat nomination for the presidency in the next election promoting some form of a Green New Deal - a plan to eliminate the use of fossil fuels and replace them with wind and solar power thereby returning society to the lifestyle of the 1880s. Dr. Patrick Moore, a co-founder of Greenpeace, wrote in 1994 that radical greens had taken over the organization after the fall of the Berlin Wall, leaving him no choice but to resign. (One more well done analysis of the situation today. Yes, the planet may be warming, it has had its weather cycles for billions of years, and we will have to adapt as necessary to things changing. But it's not we humans who have brought this on, and the enormous pressure pushing the idea that we did and have to change all kinds of things about how we generate and employ energy is a terrible problem. --Del)

Democrats Fear the Consequences of Impeachment Too Much to Actually Do Anything

Democrats Fear the Consequences of Impeachment Too Much to Actually Do Anything
Excerpt: The last Washington Post/ABC news poll found 63 percent of registered voters oppose impeachment. That’s higher than Trump’s approval rating, meaning there are a decent number of voters out there who don’t approve of the president but who don’t want to see him impeached, particularly when they’ll get to render their verdict on him in 15 months. Impeachment is a subtle declaration of the Democrats that they do not trust the electorate to come to the right conclusion about Trump. “This guy is a crook, but you people just don’t see it and might be dumb enough to give this guy a second term, so we have to make the decision for you.” If and when impeachment fails in the Senate, the president is likely to come out of the experience believing he’s bullet-proof. You think the Trump White House ignores subpoenas and doesn’t cooperate with Congress now? ... If that’s how 217 House Democrats feel, they ought to go ahead and do that. But they should be ready to accept an increased chance of a second term for Trump as a consequence. If Democrats choose not to impeach, they avoid all of the above risks. But the party’s base will absolutely loathe them for it. (Then again, the Democratic party’s base loathes a lot of things.) And while right-of-center writers aren’t usually supposed to publicly express sympathy to the progressive grassroots, let’s observe that the Democratic base will have a point.

Excerpt: The scourge of robocalls is one step closer to being eradicated. In a 429-3 vote, the House of Representatives passed Wednesday a bill that would dramatically crack down on the billions of illegal phone calls plaguing the United States. (...) Besides requiring carriers to implement technology that verifies whether calls are authentic, the measure also requires the FCC to raise the penalty for illegal robocallers from $1,500 per violation to $10,000 per violation. A similar measure in the Senate passed 97-1 earlier this year. [YES! But, it needs to apply to ALL callers, not just the unpopular ones. Ron P.]

Turkish Islamist newspaper publishes anti-Semitic report recalling blood libel
Excerpt: A Turkish Islamist newspaper has published an anti-Semitic report claiming that Jews living in Istanbul’s Beykoz district had trained dogs to bite Muslims. Yeni Akit published a letter from a reader, Ä°clal Yalçınlar, containing the anti-Semitic slur. The letter said street dogs had taken control of a neighbourhood of Beykoz, and “Jews and masons” living in the area had been setting them on the Muslim inhabitants. More than 100 Muslims had been bitten by dogs, it said. The letter also raised centuries-old blood libel claims that said Jews living in Spain had tortured Christian children by putting them in barrels full of nails.

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT: Willie Horton part deux

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT: Willie Horton part deux
Excerpt: Over three years and about 300 Review-Journal columns, I've argued that Democrats aren't just radical, extreme and crazy, but dangerous too. They are a danger to themselves and to the rest of us. Their obsession with open borders is going to get us killed. I wrote recently about an undocumented immigrant in Oregon who raped a small dog to death. The liberal Democrats of Oregon - a sanctuary state - are so obsessed with doing anything and everything to help undocumented immigrant criminals, they refused to turn this dog rapist and murderer over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They let him walk right out the front door of the courthouse, after being found guilty of raping and murdering a little dog. I recommended to President Donald Trump that this dog rapist and murderer, Fidel Lopez, become "the Willie Horton of 2020" - that is the star of Trump's re-election TV ads. (The story of Hodan Nayaleh is really sad. She came to Canada at age seven, another refugee from the failed state of Somalia, and made a great life there, in freedom and prosperity. But like many Somalis, she remained immersed in the culture and the religion, and enamored of a kind of fantasy about how wonderful Somalia is as a country. She started spending a lot of time there, a lot more than the two weeks mentioned below, trying to somehow be a force for good there. She even hoped to attract more young Somalis born elsewhere to return to the country to help build it back up. She seemed to think the problems of the place were fixable if only enough smart, educated people came back to work on it. But the truth is that tribalism and overall culture and at this point over 40 years of chaos and violence have made the place ungovernable and not amenable to some kind of return to peaceful existence. It would take an army going in with such power and determination to disarm everyone and impose a strict government for some years to have any chance of restoring some kind of stability to the country. But no one is going to do that, it would be expensive in time, money, and at least some lives. So it hasn't changed in the years since the UN pulled out and isn't likely to. Somalis living elsewhere who want to believe in a fantasy about the place are tragically self delusional. --Del)

The Russian Hackers Who Didn’t Hack Anything
Excerpt: The New York Times grabs us with a shocking headline and opening statement: “The Senate Intelligence Committee concluded Thursday that election systems in all 50 states were targeted by Russia in 2016, an effort more far-reaching than previously acknowledged and one largely undetected by the states and federal officials at the time.” But by the fourth paragraph, we get these important details: “It concluded that while there was no evidence that any votes were changed in actual voting machines, ‘Russian cyberactors were in a position to delete or change voter data’ in the Illinois voter database. The committee found “no evidence that they did so.” In the eighteenth paragraph: “That was of concern to the committee because testimony about election machines, which are disconnected from the internet, suggested the most efficient way to alter votes was with physical access to the machines or computers rather than programming them with ballots.” (Emphasis mine.)

Prof: Algebra, geometry perpetuate white privilege

Prof: Algebra, geometry perpetuate white privilege
OK, no question that most of human history has been about male dominated societies, which meant that most discoveries in the fields of astronomy, mathematics, and engineering going back to ancient time were made by men, since they had opportunities that were not available to most women. In more modern times the fields of physics, chemistry, and medicine were likewise dominated by men. Only in the 18th and 19th centuries in the West did any women manage to penetrate some of these fields, Madame Curie being a prime example. In the 20th century this did begin to change, however slowly, but by the onset of the 21st century opportunities for women in the West and even other places in the world had become at least somewhat comparable to those men have. We have come a very long way, but as almost any woman will testify, there's still lots of room for improvement. All that said, deciding that since so much of math, science, and many other fields was developed by men, mostly White men, that history must be somehow "corrected", and "white privilege" acknowledged and eliminated, is just plain silly. The answer to progress for all is not to harp on the injustices, real or perceived, of the past, but to focus on real impartiality in teaching, and recognizing that, contrary to the idea that all knowledge is "relational", reality is just what it is, whether it's 2+2=4 or the incredibly complex equations needed for getting vehicles into orbit safely and stably. The scalpel doesn't care about who the hand wielding it belongs to, neither does the body that is being opened up to remove a tumor, all that matters is the skill controlling that hand. We have today way too much PC pressure in lots of ways, even when it comes to hiring the "right" people for a job, extending the idea of affirmative action to every kind of minority. Taken far enough, this amounts to discriminating against straight White men, and that is just proceeding from past injustice forms to a new kind now. --Del

Come On, Joe Biden, You Rarely Get Gifts This Generous at Christmas
If Joe Biden can’t demolish Kamala Harris over her lenient deal with former San Diego mayor Bob Filner, then the former veep really has lost a step. From Joe Simonson at the Washington Examiner: In 2013, about 20 women accused Filner, a two-decade Democratic congressman-turned-San Diego mayor, of sexual harassment and misconduct. Some said he put them in “Filner headlocks.” Harris’ office drew considerable criticism in 2013 for allowing Filner to plead guilty to state charges of false imprisonment and battery against three Jane Does in exchange for a light sentence. Filner could have faced up to five years in prison, but the plea bargain instead gave him three months of house arrest, three years’ probation, and partial loss of his mayoral pension.

The four noisy horseladies of the Apocalypse. By Wesley Pruden (an excellent and honest journalist)|
Excerpt: Any man who makes it to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is a smart guy, by definition. Climbing a greasy pole is impossible, as anyone who has tried it will tell you, and the presidency is the greasiest pole anywhere. So how could a man smart enough to do the impossible forget the first rule of politics, that when your opponent is in the act of destroying himself, the smart thing to do is get out of his way. The Donald, on the other hand, doesn’t pay attention to first rules. He makes up his own, and never lets a thought, however fleeting, go unsaid, but there he is, atop the pole. But he sometimes makes staying there more difficult than it has to be. Only days ago, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “squad,” the infamous “four horseladies of the apocalypse,” were well on their way to destroying the 2020 Democratic campaign to keep the House and regain the White House.

Of Progressive Carnivores and Cannibals
Excerpt: In the manner that Robespierre and his Committee of Public Safety guillotined naive Girondists, so too, “the Squad” of Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez(D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Ill.), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) are now damning Nancy Pelosi as a racist. No matter that just hours earlier Pelosi herself had called Donald Trump a racist who wanted to turn away all nonwhite people at the border simply because they were nonwhite. Again, Pelosi is old, and in the way, and is a target of her party’s quick adoption of her own identity politics. What were the Pelosi generation, the left-wing journalist crowd, and the professoriate thinking when they harangued nonstop about the forthcoming irrelevancy of supposed old white dinosaurs? That thereby, such woke white liberals somehow had purchased exemptions from the very executioners whom they had helped create? (Once again, Hanson hits it out of the park. Ron P.)

At least 56 were shot, four fatally, in gun-controlled Chicago during the weekend of June 28–30, 2019. Trump and the ‘Racist Tweets’

Excerpt: The president is president of those people, too, regardless of whether they accept him as such. Of course he won’t be able to bring most of them around. In terms of his viability, though, he needs to be seen by the broad middle of the country as wanting to be everyone’s president. The thing many of us most despise about the Left is its divisive politics, its determination not just to win but to destroy opponents — for the in terrorem effect or, it seems at times, for sheer sport. To me, it is not a selling point that Trump is willing to do to the Left what the Left does to us. I want to fight them; I don’t want to be them. (McCarthy frequently says exactly what I wanted to hear. This is one of those times. It's almost like  Trump wants to make it difficult for us to vote for him. If he'd learn to keep his mouth shut and Twitter-fingers away from the keypad, he'd be a shoo-in for re-election. As it is, who knows? Ron P.)

Planned Parenthood Intends to Make It Harder for Women to Get Healthcare

Planned Parenthood Intends to Make It Harder for Women to Get Healthcare
Excerpt: It was very interesting last night to see Planned Parenthood fire its CEO, Leana Wen, a doctor. In a statement, Wen said, “I came to planned parenthood to run a national healthcare organization… the new board has determined that the priority of Planned Parenthood moving forward is to double down on abortion rights advocacy.” Planned Parenthood largely confirms this. The organization lost several of its top political operatives after Wen arrived and now they’re reversing course to become fully an abortion advocacy organization. But there is something really troubling about that. Planned Parenthood also takes a very hard line against pregnancy centers that do not perform abortions. In fact, Planned Parenthood and its progressive allies have long sought to regulate and close any pregnancy center that does not offer abortion services. Many of these facilities provide way more medical care than Planned Parenthood, including mammography screenings, etc — things Planned Parenthood does not do even as the left claims the organization does do them.

The 'squad' aims to guillotine old guard Democrats

The 'squad' aims to guillotine old guard Democrats
EXCERPT:The socialist party has absorbed what is left of the old Democrats. At first, the progressive old guard in Congress, like good Girondists, found the revolutionary carnivores useful in reducing the ranks of the Trumpians, the Tea Party, Reagan Democrats, old Perot voters and the white working class to the inanimate status of “deplorables,” “irredeemables,” “clingers” and “dregs” — and with them, the bigoted, racist, sexist, nativist, classist, homophobic and xenophobic GOP....But revolutionary carnivores are rarely sated. Once they run out of easy hostile targets, they get hungry and as cannibals start to eye their own.") Extending Hanson's template of the French Revolution to understand today's Democrats, I'm prompted to ask, is there, as at the finale of the Revolutionary chaos, a Napoleon waiting in the wings to clean up the mess? Or will the Republicans survive a presidency captained by a revolutionary Democrat to play that role (or make it unnecessary.) Or are we really so in extremis as to warrant these thoughts? --Bill)

Millennial Writer Cries at Work, Puts Mother on Speakerphone after Editor Corrects Her Spelling
Excerpt: The young woman kept saying, “I don’t know why you corrected that because I spell it with the P in it.” The boss said (calmly), “But that’s not how the word is spelled. There is no P in hamster.”

Book Recommendation: Between Two Scorpions

Book Recommendation: Between Two Scorpions (The CIA’s Dangerous Clique) by Jim Geraghty

https://www.amazon.com/Between-Scorpions-CIAs-Dangerous-Clique/dp/1733734619/ref=sr_1_2?crid=A0IFH5SE0NVS&keywords=between+two+scorpions&qid=1563141328&s=gateway&sprefix=Between+Two%2Caps%2C189&sr=8-2

Geraghty is well-known as a political commentator. But it is hard to believe this is his first political thriller and only his second novel, instead of his twentieth. Geraghty write with the touch of a master, strong characterization, intricate plot twists, and non-stop action. If you like thrillers, get this novel. If the political commentary doesn’t work out, he can make an excellent living writing thrillers. I won’t spoil any of the plot for you, but I hope we have people like he writes about on our side. And I hope we see more of these characters. A lot more.
