The Case for Professors of Stupidity. Why aren’t there more people studying the science behind stupidity?
Nice article, but I think it neglects a really critical point. A huge part of modern stupidity is not that people lack intelligence or problem solving skills, it's that they have chosen to believe in a very colored reality that doesn't match up at all well with the real world. Usually this is based on going to running one's life and perceptions from an emotional basis, rather than a rational one. Decisions that are perfectly intelligent within the framework of the colored reality and emotional viewpoint are abysmally stupid in actual effect. Simplest example, Chamberlain coming back from Munich waving a piece of paper saying it would guarantee "peace in our time" not because he had a low IQ, lacked education or experience, but because emotionally he could not face the awful reality of who Hitler really was and what was to come. He believed completely in what he wanted/needed to believe. It was stupid, to say the least. Del
