without years of unpopular occupation. By Victor Davis

Excerpt: Obama partisans are blaming the Bush administration
for going into Iraq
in the first place. But critics counter that Obama wanted out of Iraq
before the 2012 election at all costs. The result of that reckless skedaddle is
that we have thrown away the hard work of the 2007–08 surge that finally broke
the back of both al-Qaeda and Iranian-backed Shiite terrorists.

Brian Schweitzer is a one-man challenge to the scripted nature of modern
politics. But just how much can you run your mouth while running for president?
By Martin Cogan
Excerpt: Last week, I called him on the night Majority
Leader Eric Cantor was defeated in his GOP primary. "Don't hold this
against me, but I'm going to blurt it out. How do I say this ... men in the
South, they are a little effeminate," he offered when I mentioned the
stunning news. When I asked him what he meant, he added, "They just have
effeminate mannerisms. If you were just a regular person, you turned on the TV,
and you saw Eric Cantor talking, I would say—and I'm fine with gay people,
that's all right—but my gaydar is 60-70 percent. But he's not, I think, so I
don't know. Again, I couldn't care less. I'm accepting." (I recently made
a number of stupid and insensitive remarks to a reporter from the National

media would destroy a Republican who used a gay reference negatively about a Democrat.

Polls: Obama Approval Drops to Fresh Low, Major Midterm
Impact. By Guy Benson
Excerpt: In the fresh NBC/WSJ
poll (see updates below on Hillary), Obama's approval slides to
(41/53) -- which is tied for his lowest approval level ever in that series.
He's at (41/54) on the economy, and a dreadful (37/57) on foreign affairs. A
54-percent majority say Obama is "no longer able to lead the
country." For the umpteenth time, the president may have already attained
effective lame duck status, but that doesn't make his polling irrelevant.
Under ACA, Premiums
Rise by 28 Percent. By Walter Russell Mead
Excerpt: Sticker shock is back. Obamacare has raised premiums, on
average, by 14–28 percent nationally, according to a new study by the National
Bureau of Economic Research. That’s a big hike in a market that was
already seeing year-on-year increases before Obamacare went into effect.
Vox responds to
these numbers by noting that the estimate doesn’t take federal subsidies into
account. With subsidies, many individuals will find health care affordable even
under the hikes. So everything is peachy-keen, right? Not so fast. Those
subsidies, of course, come from the taxpayer—and yesterday the LA
Times reported that taxpayers
will be on the hook for more than expected.

White Paper: The

Excerpt: “My co-author and I assert that Marines cannot be
solely, even excessively reliant on Navy connectors for getting Marine armored
firepower ashore in an amphibious operation,” Magee said. “How can the Corps
still expect to prevail in the ever-present Beltway argument that says: “Since

The corrupt obsession with Green Energy doesn't just waste money, it costs lives. The fanaticism of the Global Warmists in the White House led them to disregard the lives of vets because they thought that saving the world with solar panels and wind turbines was more important. The VA's Green Management Program Office claimed that it would "keep our promises to Veterans through sustainability." Will We Be Watching Afghanistan
Burn in a Couple Months, Too? By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt

wars? “What’s the difference between Iraq
and Afghanistan ?”
asked John Noonan, a top House Armed Services Committee Republican aide, on Twitter last week. “A: About 5 years.” No one in Washington is laughing.
Notice which direction Politico goes with the story: Instead, worry is quietly
building that the ongoing crisis in Iraq -- the struggles of a
government partly seen as illegitimate, the collapse of its American-trained
military and the ascendance of Islamic extremists -- is just Part 1 of a grim
coda to George W. Bush’s foreign policy. Part 2 could be a repeat of this
scenario in Afghanistan
as, or after, the last American combat troops come home over the next two
years. Whose foreign policy? In 2011, President Obama told us . . ."Iraq is not a
perfect place. It has many challenges ahead. But we’re leaving behind a
sovereign, stable, and self-reliant Iraq , with a representative
government that was elected by its people. We’re building a new partnership
between our nations." . . . and he made it sound like the mission in Afghanistan was nearly complete, too: "In Afghanistan
we’ve broken the momentum of the Taliban. Because of you, we’ve begun a
transition to the Afghans that will allow us to bring our troops home from
there. And around the globe, as we draw down in Iraq ,
we have gone after al Qaeda so that terrorists who threaten America will have no safe haven,
and Osama bin Laden will never again walk the face of this Earth."

3,137-County Analysis: Obamacare Increased 2014 Individual-Market
Premiums By Average Of 49%
Excerpt: There are hundreds of aspects of Obamacare that
people argue over. But there’s one question that matters above all others: does the Affordable Care Act live up to its name?
Does it make health insurance less expensive? Last November, our team at the
Manhattan Institute published a study indicating
that Obamacare had increased the underlying cost of individually-purchased
health insurance in the average state by 41 percent in 2014, relative to 2013.
We’ve now redone the study on a county-by-county basis, complete with a brand-new interactive map. Depending on where you live, the
results may surprise you. (Only idiots believed you could provide more
healthcare for more people--with no more doctors or other professionals--and it
would cost less. It reminds me of the joke about the manufacturer who says,
"we lose $1.22 on every widget, but we're making it up on volume."
Obama's promise that the ACA would lower premiums by $2500 per family was just
another lie to sell it. It reminds me of a folk song, "It won't be the
last time, I can promise you that. They are only telling you lies." ~Bob)
Obamacare subsidies
on track to cost billions this year, report says
Excerpt: The large subsidies for health insurance that
helped fuel the successful drive to sign up approximately 8 million Americans
for coverage under the Affordable Care Act are on track to cost billions of
dollars this year, a new federal report indicates. Nearly nine in 10 Americans
who bought healthcare coverage on the federal government’s healthcare
marketplaces received government assistance to offset their premiums.

limited or even misleading information about the true state of Canada ’s health
care system and worse, often times present the ideal of Canadian health care
rather than its reality. It’s first important to recognize that a single-payer
model is not a necessary condition for universal health care. There are ample
examples from OECD countries
where universal health care is guaranteed without imposing a single-payer
model. Amongst industrialized countries — members of the OECD — with universal
health care, Canada has the second
most expensive health care system as a share of the economy after
adjusting for age.
Under ObamaCare

major unions get their health care (as well as retirement pensions) paid for by
their union members’ dues.

His Benghazi coverup, his impotency as Russian

Even that is suspect. This terrorist dude had been interviewed by no less than

About Nothing. By Hans von Spakovsky
Excerpt: Today’s revelations about local prosecutors’ claims
that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker “was at the center of an effort to illegally

much ado about nothing. Why? Because federal district court Judge Rudolph Randa

Welcome to the White House's Nightmare. Already swamped by
domestic and foreign crises, Obama finds that even his self-proclaimed

Liberal Journalist. ~Bob. Excerpt: More than anything, these
events and others have served as a rebuke to Team Obama's worldview that a new
generation of leadership could move on from both the Clinton-era and Bush-era
policies. Both of those administrations were more hawkish and aggressive about
the exercise of American power, whether it was to intercede in regional
conflicts in the Balkans or take down Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq . Disdainful
of much of Washington's foreign policy establishment, Obama and his close-knit
circle of advisers, on the other hand, talked about engaging Iran
diplomatically, using sanctions to punish bad actors, "pivoting" to
Asia, and neutralizing the threat of terrorism more bloodlessly through the use
of drones.

The Government
Benefits from Fracking
Excerpt: Even though environmental activists have tried to
convince the American public that fracking is harmful, new evidence from a
study by HIS Economics Consulting for the American Petroleum Institute confirms
the many economic benefits of fracking. Fracking reduces electricity and gas
prices, which frees up additional funds: America 's public schools paid about
12 percent less for gas and electricity during the 2012-2013 school year. The
$1.2 billion savings that the schools gained from fracking could be used for
educating children and retaining good teachers. State and local governments
saved a total of $720 million on electricity and gas thanks to fracking. These
significant savings are equivalent to the cost of hiring 25,000 full-time
employees.

the number of people who think President Obama is doing a good job is constantly shrinking (as it should), and NBC
has just started taking note of how quickly and how deeply President Obama

The poor have more

COMMENT FROM KATE: I fell through the cracks about eight years ago and am just beginning to see daylight. I have found, over and over again, that "poorer" people don't have needs. They have greeds. They already have housing, food, cars, etc., and now they want more. They want my inner life. They want the soul and the spirit and all the amazing stuff I have been privileged to develop over the past 67 years. They don't want to do the work I did. They don't fancy the sacrifice or suffering. If I won't hang around with them and gossip, they gossip about me. If I try to politely ignore them, they reach out and grab me. It got so bad inLos
Angeles that I was always prepared to start batting
people off while shouting, "Get your hands off me!" I knew they were
going to grab me before they did. Malfunctioning units are predictable.
Sometimes I carried an umbrella to swat them with. I just read Stephen King's
book called Doctor Sleep, wherein he describes these people. They are
everywhere now. I don't know if the more prosperous people know about them.
They don't want your blood, like normal vampires. They want your essence. They
have no life. They want yours. If they can't get your life, they want to at
least stop you from having it. In LA, people of all races and nationalities
do this merely by shouting at the tops of their voices at all times.
"Bar-bar-bar" was the Roman word for
'blah-blah-blah.' Adaptation is one thing. Mutation is another. When you
live in present-day LA, you know you're not in Kansas anymore. But I suppose that sounds
weird to those who have not been treated to Extreme Diversity

"Being offended
is the natural consequence of leaving one's home." By Matt K. Lewis
Excerpt: [The Washington Post's Sally Jenkins:] You don’t
really want government agencies to become the arbiter of acceptable words and
images. You really don’t. The main reason you don’t is because, like it or not,
what’s offensive is subjective. It creates “a morass of uncertainty,” Rottman
wrote. Consider how many offensive violations someone could find in one episode
of “The Family Guy.” Or “Game of Thrones,” or “Orange Is The New Black.” “Being offended is
the natural consequence of leaving one’s home,” Fran Lebowitz wrote. She added,
“I do not like after-shave lotion, adults who roller skate, children who speak
French, or anyone who is unduly tan. I do not, however, go around enacting
legislation and putting up signs.”

Excerpt: Earlier this year, Arkansas Republican Tom Cotton—now locked in a toss-up Senate race with Democrat Mark Pryor—voted against the farm bill. According to politicos and pundits inWashington , D.C. ,
this is a politically dangerous vote to have cast. .. The farm bill helps the
wealthiest farmers because its subsidies are ultimately keyed to agricultural
output. You have to farm more to get more from Uncle Sam, which means that
small farms get very little. More than this, economists have found that the
only groups to benefit from the farm bill are those possessing inelastic inputs.

Air pollution linked
to cognitive decline in later years
Excerpt: The tiny particles in vehicle exhaust and other
sources of air pollution may hasten cognitive decline in older adults,
according to a new U.
S. study. “We decided to examine the
link between air pollution and cognitive function in older adults because there
is growing evidence that fine particulate matter air pollution affects brain
health and development, but relatively little attention has been given to what
this means for the aging brain,” said Jennifer Ailshire, who co-wrote the

travel deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, past research has shown.
Obamacare sticker shock. By Jennifer Rubin
Excerpt: When last we left off in the late spring, the
administration was goosing up the enrollment figures without ever telling us
how many had paid and how many were newly insured Americans. But the “affordable”
part of the Affordable Care Act has always been its Achilles heel. By heavily
subsidizing health-care insurance and insisting on very expensive coverage
plans, the administration is almost certainly encouraging demand (i.e. overuse)

heated argument with administrators at a staff meeting in 2008 when she
objected to using phantom appointments to make wait times appear shorter, as

Deportation
statistics
I found these numbers to be interesting. We've had a steady
increase in deportations fro these 14 years (2013 not yet available), which we
might think is a good thing, given the concerns about a flood of illegals
coming in. But what is really interesting is that in the latest year reported
55% of them were convicted criminals, another 21% were repeat violators,
meaning they've been caught and deported before. That's over 200K convicted
criminals, which is a great thing from one point of view, and scary from
another, since we know that we're not catching all of them. How many of the
illegals still here are criminals? Yes, I believe the majority are just poor
people desperate to make more money for themselves and their families, but that
some significant number of them are drug dealers, thieves, robbers, rapists,
etc, is worth concern. We have seen court cases of criminal illegals who ended
up killing or raping someone here. Now we are getting hit with a wave of kids,
who of course are not criminals or dangerous, but pose a whole new kind of
problem for us to handle. People say you can't seal the border, and I'm sure
it's not possible to make it airtight. But it could be a whole lot tighter than
it is, and I think the government should have invested a lot more in the Border
Patrol and a very serious fence and all the technology possible for finding
incoming groups. If the border gets really tight, yes, some will still make it
through, but a lot fewer, and others will stop trying. --Del

Obama sending up to
300 soldiers to Iraq as advisers, says move is limited
Excerpt: President Obama authorized additional military assistance
for Iraq’s fight against advancing Islamist militants Thursday, but made clear
that he will continue to hold back more substantive support, including U.S.
airstrikes, until he sees a direct threat to U.S. personnel or a more inclusive
and capable Iraqi government. (I suppose if there's a chance

Krauthammer
Excerpt: Yes, it is true that there was no al-Qaeda in Iraq when
George W. Bush took office. But it is equally true that there was essentially
no al-Qaeda in Iraq
remaining when Barack Obama took office. Which makes Bush responsible for the
terrible costs incurred to defeat the 2003-09 jihadist war engendered by his
invasion. We can debate forever whether those costs were worth it, but what is
not debatable is Obama’s responsibility for the return of the Islamist insurgency
that had been routed by the time he became president.

But as an army of bloodthirsty Islamists rampages across Iraq with the goal of
establishing a 7th century religious tyranny — a caliphate — it’s worth
recalling who years ago had predicted this would happen if the Democrats got
their way. It was President George W. Bush and his top officials. They warned
early on that Iraq was ripe
for the rise of an Islamic caliphate — either in a failed state created by
Saddam Hussein or, they later contended, if the U.S.-led coalition bugged
out without leaving behind a stable Iraq .
