Emily ----. My father is Colonel --- . I have had the honor and privilege of
reading about your strength and journey through the medical world. I have told
my father multiple times that I am beyond impressed with your positive
attitude, complete understanding of the medical field and what all you are
going through. You see Mr. Hall I am a nurse myself and I personally want to
tell you that after reading your journal and blogs and explanations of
everything you've been through you are a nurse's DREAM PATIENT! You are the
poster patient for a positive attitude and proof that it can take you through
rough times and take you farther than anyone in the medical field could have
guessed. It is truly a pleasure to work with a patient who has the outlook you
do. Also the way you explain the medical terminology, procedures and truly
understand what they mean and how they relate to you and the process of
everything is mind blowing. I have worked with people who have no clue why they
are taking this medication or why this test is ordered-besides that their
doctor told them to do it. So please be proud of yourself and give yourself a
pat on the back, because from an outsider looking in... you have earned your
medical degree and nursing degree :) Please know that if there is anything I
can do as a medical professional, nurse, or extra set of ears please don't
hesitate. I know you don't know me and from the past blog readings you have one
heck of a medical team supporting you. A team that I can say is truly blessed
to have you as a patient. I pray you are reading this feeling better than 5/21

I told her I didn't see how being disagreeable would help my
situation. I sent it to nurses on mu list, and received the below from one of
the really excellent VA nurses who helped save my life on Memorial Day. He's
both a great nurse and a great guy. ~Bob
She hit the nail on the jar-head. There are people you come
across in your life that leave a lasting impression. Their name will pop up years
down the road. The stories they told you, the experience you had together, and
wisdom they shared is priceless. Three years ago I had a patient Mr. S. He was
a Marine! He was one of the most stubborn Jarheads I have ever met. The doctors
told him he was going to die every day for three weeks. He told them with a
smile every morning that they were "f*@$ing wrong again." I requested
to work with him because his family was amazing, the stories were incredible,
and he was making me a better nurse. One day I sat with him and asked why he
did not listen to the doctors. I told him that his cancer would kill him. He
said, "F@#$ You," with a smile. Mr. S said that every day he woke up
in Vietnam
and his commanding officer told him and everyone else in his platoon that they
are going to die today. He never explained why his CO did this, but he did say
that everyone in his platoon yelled back to him, "F@#K YOU SIR." I
laughed for a second, then instantly realized he was serious. This MAN fought
every day to live. How can you tell him it’s ok to stop fighting.......I realized
you don’t. I went to visit him the day we discharged him home with hospice. I
watched as a crowd of people cheered at his return home. I toured the amazing
home that he remodeled himself. He told me that day, "You were wrong
again." He smiled and said, "When you are finally right, I will not
be around to hear you say so. Thank you for coming." I am proud to say
that I fought to get him home and that I supported his wishes and his family in
their transition. I am thankful that he was able to pass with
dignity. Years from now I will tell other veterans about Mr. H. --C

still a paper and ink book antediluvian dinosaur, but everything I've ever read

Today I swung my front door
wide open and placed my Remington 30.06 right in my doorway. I left 6 shells
beside it, then left it alone and went about my business. While I was gone, the
mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy across the street mowed the yard, a
girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop
sign near the front of our house. After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It
was still sitting there, right where I had left it. It hadn't moved itself
outside. It certainly hadn't killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities
it had been presented to do so. In fact, it hadn't even loaded itself. Well you
can imagine my surprise, with all the media hype about how dangerous guns are
and how they kill people. Either the media is wrong, or I'm in possession of
the laziest gun in the world. The United States
is 3rd in murders throughout the World, but, if you take out Chicago ,
Detroit , Washington
DC and New Orleans ,
the United States
is 4th from the bottom for murders. These 4 Cities also have the toughest gun
control laws in the United
States . (I have no source for the original
version of this, but I did the research myself on the UN list of countries and
murder rates, and USA
is rated at 4.8 murders per 100,000 inhabitants. Of course, for 300+ million
people that adds up to a lot of dead bodies, but there are countries whose
rates are literally 10X ours, like El Salvador . Mexico next door is 4+ times as high, but
at least Canada
is only at 1.6, so you can go visit there and feel pretty safe. If you
take out the four cities mentioned below, the whole rest of the country drops
significantly, if you take out all large cities, it really drops. So yes,
living in the country, or a small town, or even a medium size city means you're
in a lot safer area. I have no urge whatsoever to live in a big city, but if
somehow I was required to live in downtown DC or Chicago, I would really insist
on someone somehow getting me a carry permit, and one for my wife as well, if
she hadn't left me rather than move there. And I'd practice at least once in a
while. I have no desire to ever shoot anyone, but if threatened or seeing
others threatened, I would not hesitate. Del. We lived in the Chicago
burb of Des Plaines
for 5 years for our jobs. When they found half a body literally a stone's throw
from our condo, we acquired firearms. But of course, at the time, couldn't
carry outside, where we needed them. Only the thugs, pols and cops could carry.

the lives of four U.S.
personnel on Sept. 11, 2012. In testimony before Congress in January
2013, Clinton said: “I hurried to appoint the Accountability
Review Board led by Ambassador Pickering and Admiral Mullen so we could more
fully understand from objective, independent examination, what went wrong and
how to fix it. I have accepted every one of their recommendations.” (Hillary
will be dancing around Benghazi
from now until she loses the next election. What's so amazing is that someone
in the media actually threw her some hardball questions. Which she could not
really answer in any decent way that got her off the hook. Bottom line is still
simple- she was the head of the State Dept, she had an ambassador in the most
dangerous post in the world asking for more security, he never got it, he and
three others died. She can try to dance away from the responsibility all she
wants, but that buck does stop on her desk, and the investigation she
authorized said the security in Libya
sucked. Trying to act like complaints about specifics at one area meant
she had no responsibility for any other areas is truly a dance worthy of a
ballerina, but as we say down here, that dog don't hunt. I look forward to

Obamacare. And we've all read nightmare stories about the impact this has had
on people who've needed care and had the system fail them. To now, for most of
us, the Obamacare fiasco has just been an ugly abstract thing. That changed for

emailed me yesterday. He's a recently retired Boeing engineer up in Washington state. He's
one of the good guys, hard working with a deep love for his family. Sadly, I
learned that his wife has cancer. She's been undergoing weekly chemotherapy,
taking a drug called Velcade which seems to be effective in beating back the
cancer. Two weeks ago Greg took his wife in for chemotherapy only to be told by
the hospital that they could no longer treat his wife. Seems the Washington state health
exchange doesn't have him in their system, even as they have been accepting his
health premium payments for several months.

officers from the DHS Federal
Protective Service (FPS) dressed in full black combat gear
crowded at the entrance of VA Mission Valley Health Care Clinic on Wednesday.
These officers were not wearing any name tags and refused to identify
themselves. Four bomb-sniffing dogs accompanied the secretive police group that
arrived at the facility in 8 white SUVs marked “FPS”, which then blocked all
access to parking for disabled veterans. Veterans arriving for care were
alarmed and some frightened away. (I had seen one report about this, from a vet
or maybe a vet's wife, that described a horrible action by black-suited combat
equipped cops who were absolutely arrogant and downright nasty to everyone as
they strutted around the VA facility. And made jokes about being there since
vets are known to be likely terrorists. (Very funny) This article confirms it,
and there should be a lot of screaming all the way up the chain of command and
somebody needs to get chewed out thoroughly, and then find the jerks who
behaved so badly and explain to them that they don't get badges and guns and
all that fun stuff so they can harass citizens, and certainly not sick vets. What
