Great Stuff Today

Latest Lung Update

Things have been pretty stable. Breathing hard with exertion, but the oxygen sats are staying at 94% with only 2 LPM of O2 under exertion. It was a sharp drop in my oxygen saturation the last three times I went into the hositral that indicated the presence of pneumonia. At PT rehab, doing 16 minutes on the treadmill at 1.6 mph, and 50 reps each on the chest press, leg pres and a stretching exercise where you pull a big "rubber band." My FEV numbers (the amount of air you can expel in 0ne second) have been low, so Al Gore should approve that I'm putting less carbon into the atmosphere. Last week, they ticked up over five days from 1.08 to 1.12. This is about 25% of expected, but you lose lung capacity as you age. Bonnie only gets 2.44 Liters. Then over the weekend they dropped to 1.00. I think this is due to the mucus buildup and my lung being tired and irritated by the constant coughing, but I reported it to my Transplant Coordinator Monday morning, as a 10% drop can indicate rejection. He ordered a chest x-ray and a PFT (pulmonary function test). The x-ray was apparently clearer than my last one, The EFV number from the PFT was 1.24, much better on their big booth machine than my handheld one. They are going to schedule anther bronchoscopy--my 20th since January, probably for Monday, June 30. Have to clear staff and operating room time. And so it goes on. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Brandon Garabrant, Marine who tried to wear uniform to HS graduation, killed in action
Excerpt: A Marine whose request to wear his uniform at his high school graduation last year was refused by school officials has been killed in Afghanistan. Brandon Garabrant, 19, was one of three Marines killed by a roadside bomb this week, MyFoxBoston.com reported. Garabrant gained fame last year when he asked to wear his dress blues to his graduation from ConVal Regional High School. But the school's principal, citing regulation, told him he had to wear the traditional cap and gown. (Well, if it's not closed casket, his classmates--and the principal--can now see him in Dress Blues. At the viewing or funeral. My heart is bitter at the school. I hope they never forget. Semper Fidelis, brother. ~Bob.) (You can email the school here: http://conval.edu/district/contact-us. Show class if you do--foul and abusive language will only make them feel justified. ~Bob)

Worth Reading: The Big White Lie House. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: With men like Mr. Gowdy in office, there is a flame of hope.

Worth Reading: A Lame Duck Country? By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: The Constitution of the United States does not give presidents the power to carry out major policy changes without the cooperation of other branches of government. Once the country becomes disenchanted with a president during his second term, Congress has little incentive to cooperate with him -- and, once Congress becomes uncooperative, there is little that a president can do on his own. That is, if he respects the Constitution. President Obama has demonstrated, time and again, that he has no respect for the Constitution's limitations on his power.

Surprise: IRS cut ties with Sonasoft almost immediately after Lois Lerner scandal broke.
By Moe Lane
Excerpt: A couple of weeks after Congress started requesting Lois Lerner’s email records from the IRS, Lerner’s computer crash – and, shortly after that, the IRS let their contract with Sonasoft lapse. Left unstated is why the IRS would decide to terminate services with the company that was providing them with backups, although I’m sure that we could all hazard a guess or two. (Gee, who could have predicted something like this? ~Bob)

Halperin: 'Democrat' President Is Why IRS Scandal Not Media 'Obsession.' By John Nolte
Excerpt: On Monday's edition of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Mark Halperin said out loud what every fair-minded person has known for over a year now, "I think with a different administration, one that was a Republican administration, this story would be a national obsession, and, instead, it's getting coverage here and a few other places. But it deserves a lot more questions."

An arrogant and lawless IRS. By Michael Gerson
Excerpt: Noted management expert and Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen was apparently called out of retirement — like the Ted Williams of evasive, unapologetic bureaucrats — to destroy what is left of his agency’s credibility. At immediate issue is two years of subpoenaed e-mails from former IRS official Lois Lerner to outside agencies, lost in a convenient computer crash. The possible involvement of other agencies is one focus of a congressional investigation into the heightened IRS scrutiny of conservative nonprofit groups before the 2012 election.

IRS chief denies tipping off White House about missing e-mails
Excerpt: Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen on Monday denied telling the White House about missing e-mails that could serve as evidence in the IRS targeting investigation. (They got it from Snowden. ~Bob)

Russia in secret plot against fracking, NATO chief says
Excerpt: Russia is secretly working with environmental groups campaigning against fracking in an attempt to maintain Europe's dependence on energy imports from Moscow, the secretary-general of Nato has said. Speaking at the Chatham House foreign affairs think-tank in London, Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Russia was mounting a sophisticated disinformation campaign aimed at undermining attempts to exploit alternative energy sources such as shale gas. (Green is the new Red. ~Bob)

Excerpt: A recently discovered government request for “escort services for unaccompanied alien children” dating back to January is raising questions about whether the government was planning for a surge of illegal immigrants this year as amnesty talks heated up in the United States. The request specifically says it was preparing for 65,000 undocumented children. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed the request to TheBlaze, which is for transportation companies to escort children from the U.S.-Mexico border to relocation facilities throughout the United States. (Of course, Biden ineffective and suggested some staying....which will open the floodgates more. Blaze reports gang members being moved to cities around US by US fed gov. --Barb)

Sacrificing Africa for Climate Change: Western policies seem more interested in carbon-dioxide levels than in life expectancy. By Caleb S. Rossiter
Excerpt: Every year environmental groups celebrate a night when institutions in developed countries (including my own university) turn off their lights as a protest against fossil fuels. They say their goal is to get America and Europe to look from space like Africa: dark, because of minimal energy use. But that is the opposite of what's desired by Africans I know. They want Africa at night to look like the developed world, with lights in every little village and with healthy people, living longer lives, sitting by those lights. Real years added to real lives should trump the minimal impact that African carbon emissions could have on a theoretical catastrophe. (Here is your classic, dyed-in-the-wool Liberal, well known antiwar activist, long history of being one of the "good guys", and he says one thing, one little thing about giving Africa a break on generating energy they need desperately, and WHAM, he's bounced off the organization he's been part of for 23 years. Who says there's no hard-edged suppression of anyone who won't toe the exact line of "Climate Change" and its priorities? --Del. When Al Gore lowers his carbon footprint to equal mine, I'll start to worry. ~Bob)

Mafia 'adore evil' and are 'excommunicated', says Pope Francis
Excerpt: Pope Francis has taken on one of Italy’s most dangerous organised crime groups, calling the 'Ndrangheta crime group an example of “the adoration of evil” and saying Mafiosi “are excommunicated”. The pope, speaking during a mass in the southern Italy, issued the strongest attacks on organised crime since the late Pope John Paul lambasted the Sicilian Mafia in 1993.

WOW! Somebody gets Viet Nam right!
Excerpt: I thought this PJTV Video: "Bill Whittle Is Ashamed of the USA Because of Obama Letting Iraqis Get Slaughtered (Members Only)" was a mindblower because he tells the real truth about what happened in Viet Nam. He's working on three questions and Iraq/Viet Nam come last, but it's worth the wait to see and hear him lay a napalm blast on the false history of the war. --Del

The scandal of fiddled global warming data The US has actually been cooling since the Thirties, the hottest decade on record. By Christopher Booker
Excerpt: When future generations try to understand how the world got carried away around the end of the 20th century by the panic over global warming, few things will amaze them more than the part played in stoking up the scare by the fiddling of official temperature data. There was already much evidence of this seven years ago, when I was writing my history of the scare, The Real Global Warming Disaster. But now another damning example has been uncovered by Steven Goddard’s US blog Real Science, showing how shamelessly manipulated has been one of the world’s most influential climate records, the graph of US surface temperature records published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). (Wow, here is a great collection of articles that really play hell with the current mania about Climate Change. Not that any of it will make the slightest difference to the eco-fanatics. Including all the ones high up in our government. --Del)

Excerpt: NCDC never publishes graphs of measured US temperatures. Here is why.

Excerpt: Prior to the year 2000, NASA showed US temperatures cooling since the 1930′s, and 1934 much warmer than 1998.

Bad News: It Could Take A Decade to Get to the Bottom of "Lost" IRS Emails. By Katie Pavlich
Excerpt: If you're looking for answers about what happened to those "lost" IRS emails, you better buckle in for the long haul. As investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson points out the EPA destroyed emails back in the 1990s and now thirteen years after a lawsuit, there is closure in the case but the emails are still gone. (That's about nine years and eleven months longer than te publics attention span. Of course, if potentially incriminating Republican emails were "missing," the media would pound the story every day. Personally, I think Jimmy Hoffa has them. ~Bob)

Email Shows IRS Official Was Pretty Happy About Obama Publicly Singling Out Conservative "Secret Donor" Groups. By Katie Pavlich
Excerpt: An email recently released by the House Oversight Committee shows IRS official Sarah Ingram was pretty excited about President Obama publicly speaking out against conservative groups with "secret donors." The email was sent from Ingram to Lois Lerner and others inside the tax agency after a glowing piece was published in the New York Times about the IRS and the trouble it was having with new tax exempt applicants and groups in light of the 2010 Citizen's United ruling.

IRS Admits Wrongdoing, to Pay $50,000 in Leaking of Marriage Group’s Tax Return. By Ken McIntyre
Excerpt: Two years after activists for same-sex marriage obtained the confidential tax return and donor list of a national group opposed to redefining marriage, the Internal Revenue Service has admitted wrongdoing and agreed to settle the resulting lawsuit. 9why not--the $50k comes from our pockets. It should come from the pockets of the person(s) who broke the law. ~Bob)

Some Democrats fear Clinton’s wealth and ‘imperial image’ could be damaging in 2016
Excerpt: Some influential Democrats — including former advisers to President Obama — said in interviews last week they fear that Clinton’s personal wealth and rarefied, cloistered lifestyle could jeopardize the Democratic Party’s historic edge with the middle class that powered Obama’s wins.

Balanced: Fact Check: Were the Clintons really broke?
Excerpt: PolitiFact.com questioned whether someone who buys a $2.85 million house can be “dead broke.” It asked two accounting professors for their opinions. Assistant Professor Jeffrey Hoopes of Ohio State University said to call the Clintons dead broke would be a stretch for how the term is commonly understood. “Almost any president leaving office can expect tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars of future earnings as a result of their having been president,” Hoopes told PolitiFact.com. “Speaking, consulting, board positions, and so on, are all very lucrative.” (I wish I was this broke, with such limited prospects. ~Bob)

Supreme Court limits EPA global warming rules
Excerpt: The Supreme Court delivered a setback to the Environmental Protection Agency on Monday, placing limits on the sole Obama administration program already in place to deal with power plant and factory emissions of gases blamed for global warming.

Hillary’s Child-Rapist Defense> It’s most definitely a newsworthy story, so why does the Arkansas library want to silence it? By Matthew Continetti
Excerpt: In 2003, when she was a senator from New York, and published her first memoir, Living History, Clinton included a brief mention of the case, mainly as a way to take credit for Arkansas’s first rape-crisis hotline. And in 2008, Glenn Thrush — then at Newsday — wrote a lengthy article on the subject. Don’t remember it? There’s a reason. “My then-editor appended a meaningless intro to the story, delayed and buried it because, in his words, ‘It might have an impact,’” Thrush said in a June 15 tweet. Well, the editor got his way. It didn’t have an impact.

5 Dead, 19 Wounded in Weekend Chicago Violence
Ho, hum, what else is new. ~Bob

Hard Times Demand Accountability: The Tragedy of Violence in Chicago. By Armstrong Williams
Excerpt: The President has been outspoken about other national tragedies, including the Sandy Hook elementary mass killing and the Trayvon Martin case. So have other black leaders such as Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and National of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. But up until the last February, the President had been curiously silent about the epidemic of crime and violence plaguing his own back yard. Some believe his hand was forced by the publicity surrounding shooting death of teen Hadiya Pendleton in Chicago less than a week after she performed as a majorette cheerleader at the President’s second inauguration.

Man in sword attack told victim's wife he planned to kill
Excerpt: In the days before the Thursday afternoon attack that killed Dustin M. Vanderheyden, 27, and injured David Gerard, 24, defendant Young J. Choi told Vanderheyden's wife he wanted her for himself, court documents say. (When swords are outlawed, only ronin will have katanas. ~Bob)

Poll: 65 Percent Disapprove Of Obama's Immigration Policies. By Sarah Jean Seman
Excerpt: Two in three Americans are displeased with President Barack Obama’s handling of immigration, according to a recent Gallup poll. While 65 percent disapprove, only 31 percent are pleased with the president’s immigration policies. This brings his overall approval to the one of the lowest ratings since the survey's inception in 2010. (how long can the media prop him up in the face of policies that a strong majority disapprove of? Like this, Keystone, late term abortion, the Middle East foreign policy, Obamacare...~Bob)

A few weeks ago, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) made a stunning announcement that caused a lot of consternation in the Black community. UNCF had accepted a $ 25 million contribution from Koch Industries and the Charles Koch Foundation. Under normal circumstances, David and Charles Koch – the brothers who control the two entities – would be applauded for their generosity. But some Blacks have labeled the Koch brothers as racist simply because they are White, conservative, and libertarians who believe in smaller government, lower taxes and ballot integrity. However, when the critics are asked to specify what has the Koch family done that is racist, they draw blanks. (OK, here is the perfect article to send to all your really out there Liberal/Leftist friends and acquaintances. Another chance to really mess with their heads! Everyone knows those incredibly evil Koch brothers could not possibly be giving even a penny for poor Black college students, why, they are the supreme racists of the Right, aren't they? Actually, maybe they are a good example of how racist conservatives really are. --Del)

World War I: The War That Changed Everything
Excerpt: A hundred years ago next week, in the small Balkan city of Sarajevo, Serbian nationalists murdered the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary and his wife. People were shocked but not particularly worried. Sadly, there had been many political assassinations in previous years—the king of Italy, two Spanish prime ministers, the Russian czar, President William McKinley. None had led to a major crisis. Yet just as a pebble can start a landslide, this killing set off a series of events that, in five weeks, led Europe into a general war. (I read this with great interest, and found it to be really illuminating. It's not a very long read, and I recommend it heartily. --Del)

Book Review: 'Some Desperate Glory' by Max Egremont | 'Poetry of the First World War' edited by Tim Kendall. British poets of World War I are often thought of as antiwar, but they were warriors as well as artists.
Excerpt: But Owen (1893-1918) was no pacifist. Not only did he die in battle, he earned a Military Cross for inflicting "considerable losses on the enemy" and believed that the war was a necessary evil. In June 1917, he wrote his mother that the "Aim in War" was the "Extinction of Militarism, beginning with Prussian." In September 1917, he wrote: "I hate washy pacifists as temperamentally as I hate whiskied prussianists."

America at War: A Record of Unparalleled Failure. By Tom Englehardt
On things he is so sure he knows all about, while in truth not having even an inkling of the so very, very much that he doesn't know. I could spend a lot of time going through his claims and opinions tearing them up, but I'm too short of time and energy today for that. But this is what all of us who worry about the future of the country and who have some remote ideas of how things really work in the world, and details like the wars our military did win very nicely (how about Gulf One & Two?), have to keep in mind about what views are being broadcast in our society. Englehardt is not a lone figure with such ideas, there are all too many others out there poisoning the minds of college and university students. BTW, needless to say (but I'll say it) Englehardt has never served in the military, is not a military historian or theorist, but is just another person so impressed by his own incredible brilliance that he has no trouble sharing his laser vision of reality with everyone else. As some have said, the question is not whether this nation can survive a President like Mr. Obama, the question is, can we survive the kind of electorate that put him in that office not once but twice, and can we survive academia and the media misinforming our youth so badly about our history and the realities of the world? --Del

European Reports Show NSA's Successes. By Abigail R. Esman
Excerpt: Now the results of some of those investigations are in. The findings: Washington was right all along. NSA programs in Europe – and specifically its PRISM project – have now been confirmed to have stayed dozens of terror attacks across the continent, and helped America kill suspected terrorists abroad. Indeed, a report published last month by the Dutch agency responsible for overseeing Dutch intelligence states clearly that "thanks to PRISM, 26 attacks (in Europe, including one in the Netherlands), were neutralized."

Worth Reading: How the Left Distorts History to Inspire New Generations of Activists. By Ron Radosh
Excerpt: The American Left has been expert in indoctrinating a new generation with false history. We have seen this with Oliver Stone and Peter Kuznick’s Showtime TV series on the Cold War, and especially with the writings and pseudo-history of the late Howard Zinn. While conservatives — with some laudable exceptions — concentrate largely on policy issues, the left knows that it is not sufficient to work only for its own political agenda. The left realizes it needs to capture the realm of culture, which includes the portrayal of the American past. The left believes that if the American past is to be accurately understood, its citizens must be educated to understand that their country was always the real oppressor of both its own citizens and the world community. Then, the evil of virtually all administrations will be seen not as an aberration, but as the result one should expect. (What a great expose of manipulation of history to support Leftist causes, and the great examples of what Goebbels proclaimed so successfully- shout the lie, repeat the lie, again and again, louder and louder and it becomes the Truth. This essay needs to be read by a really large fraction of intelligent Americans, and every college student. It is so very, very important for people to understand how long they have been deceived, consistently, deliberately, by the Left, so that they can shake off at least some of the misconceptions and misunderstandings that hamper us in reacting to the challenges of today. --Del)

Excerpt: U.S. Senator and doctor Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK), today released his new oversight report “Friendly Fire: Death, Delay, and Dismay at the VA.” The report is based on a year-long investigation of VA hospitals around the nation that chronicled the inappropriate conduct and incompetence within the VA that led to well-documented deaths and delays. The report also exposes the inept congressional and agency oversight that allowed rampant misconduct to grow unchecked. “This report shows the problems at the VA are worse than anyone imagined. The scope of the VA’s incompetence – and Congress’ indifferent oversight – is breathtaking and disturbing. This investigation found the problems at the VA are far deeper than just scheduling. Over the past decade, more than 1,000 veterans may have died as a result of the VA’s misconduct and the VA has paid out nearly $1 billion to veterans and their families for its medical malpractice. As is typical with any bureaucracy, the excuse for not being able to meet goals is a lack of resources. But this is not the case at the VA where spending has increased rapidly in recent years,” Dr. Coburn said. (I can only repeat that all of the VA healthcare professionals I've interacted with through my lung transplant process have been good to superb, from the surgeon to the nurses, CNAs, physical therapists and respiratory therapists. ~Bob).

NYT: Poll Finds Dissatisfaction Over Iraq
Excerpt: The poll found that 58 percent of Americans disapprove of the way Mr. Obama is handling foreign policy, a jump of 10 points in the last month to the highest level since Mr. Obama took office in 2009. The spike in disapproval is especially striking among Democrats, nearly a third of whom said they did not approve of his handling of foreign policy.

WaPo: President Obama reaches new low on Iraq
Excerpt: President Obama receives his worst marks yet for handling the situation in Iraq, with 52 percent disapproving and strong negative sentiment now outpacing strong approval by 2 to 1 (34 to 17 percent) in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. (I don't think air strikes on ISIS would save Iraq, but they are okay with me. Killing terrorists is always goo. ~Bob)

More Americans Moving to the South and West
Excerpt: Between 2010 and 2013, nearly a million people migrated to Texas, Florida, the Carolinas and Colorado, reports Stateline. 1.2 million Americans left the Northeast and the Midwest for the South and West in just three years, from 2010 to 2013. New York, Illinois, California, New Jersey and Michigan have lost almost a million residents to interstate moves.

CBO: It's Not Possible to Analyze Obamacare Costs
Excerpt: Americans may never get an accurate projection of Obamacare's impact on the deficit, reports the Washington Examiner. Before it become law, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected that Obamacare would cost $938 billion and reduce the deficit by $143 billion over the first decade, from 2010 through 2019. At that time, the figures were already questionable: ... The estimate of $143 billion in deficit reduction was a function of the law's tax increases and Medicare spending cuts. Since that original estimate, the CBO's financial projections have continued to change: In July 2012, the CBO reduced its estimate of the law's impact on the budget deficit to $109 billion. In April 2014, the CBO said that the cost of the ACA from 2015 to 2024 would be more than $1.8 trillion -- twice as much as its first ten-year projection.

Will Obama repeat his Iraq mistakes in Afghanistan? By MARC A. THIESSEN
Excerpt: If you like the unfolding disaster in Obama-abandoned Iraq, you are going to love Obama-abandoned Afghanistan. Just two weeks before Iraq descended into chaos, President Obama stepped into the Rose Garden to announce his plan to withdraw all U.S. forces from Afghanistan by the end of 2016. “It’s time to turn the page on more than a decade in which so much of our foreign policy was focused on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq,” Obama declared. “Americans have learned that it’s harder to end wars than begin them — but this is how wars end in the 21st century.”

Obamacare Exchanges Are ‘Disappointing’ With Fewer Than 4 Million Newly Insured. The Government Hoped for 26 Million. By Sharyl Attkisson
Excerpt: In April, President Obama told the nation that “marketplace” or “exchange” enrollment, at 8 million customers as of March 31, had exceeded expectations and costs were lower than expected. Many in the news media accepted the selectively released statistics, despite the Obama administration’s record of sometimes providing inaccurate or incomplete information on HealthCare.gov. Even today, the government continues to withhold relevant public information on costs and enrollment requested by Congress and the press under the Freedom of Information Act. (Ah, yes, the "most transparent administration in history. ~Bob)

Follow Your Tax Dollars Across This Map to Unfriendly Nations
Excerpt: What’s worse than using taxpayer money for special interests and cronyism? Maybe sending taxpayer money to nations that aren’t the best friends of the United States. (Need to update Harry Belafonte's song "Matilda, she take me money and run Venezeula," to" Obama, he take me money and give Venezuela." ~Bob

Worth Reading: Academic Mind Control
Excerpt: Back in March Andrew Lampart, a high school student at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury, Connecticut was doing research for an upcoming school debate on gun control. When he tried to access the National Rifle Association home page he found his school Internet has blocked access to NRA. However, Andrew found all sites that promoted gun control were wide open. This made the kid a bit suspicious so he decided to do a little digging. Suspecting some political hi-jinks, Andrew went to the home page for the Republican Party and found it blocked while the home page for the Democratic party was open. He then tried religion. The home page for Pope Francis was blocked as were all religious organizations who opposed abortion but Planned Parenthood and Pro Choice America were as wide open as a streetwalker's legs. (Education today--teaching students what to think, not how to think. ~Bob)

Religion of Peace News

Put this here to fit with the next two articles. ~Bob. Excerpt: Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows that I cannot stand Barack Hussein Obama. But, frankly, I fear for Obama's life....I'm afraid that these last few months of just horrible Presidential leadership has spawned a whole new group of potential assassins. I will tell you why that would be a terrible thing, but first let's look at those who might be thinking long and hard about putting Obama in the ground. (I consider myself a staunch critic of the President. I believe his policies are wrong, that he acts in an arbitrary manner, that he is in over his head, and that his worldview is disastrous. But nothing would be more disastrous than his assassination. There would be riots in the cities, regardless of who did it, that would destroy billions of dollars of property and kill thousands of people. It would hasten the collapse. And Biden would be equally incompetent and over his head. Pray it does not happen. ~Bob)

Excerpt: This clown’s Twitter account is still active. Twitter only seems interested in closing the accounts of those who oppose jihad terror.

Excerpt: So here again we see a convert to Islam who somehow got the crazy idea that his new religion had something to do with violence. Muslim groups in the U.S. profess to reject and abhor this idea, and yet they have no program of any kind designed to teach converts to Islam like DeTillio why this understanding of Islam is wrong on Islamic grounds. What’s more, law enforcement and government officials don’t seem to mind this omission. Now, why is that?

Don’t Blame Bush for Al Qaeda in Iraq, Blame Obama. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: But the theory that turned Al Qaeda into a regional monster didn’t come from Dick Cheney. It came from Obama’s Presidential Study Directive 11 which helped pave the way for the Arab Spring. The definitive speech that opened the gates of hell wasn’t Bush’s speech on Iraq, but Obama’s Cairo speech.

Iraq militants take Syria border post in drive for caliphate. By Kamal Namaa
Excerpt: Sunni fighters have seized a border post on the Iraq-Syria frontier, security sources said, smashing a line drawn by colonial powers a century ago in a campaign to create an Islamic Caliphate from the Mediterranean Sea to Iran. The militants, led by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), first moved into the nearby town of al-Qaim on Friday, pushing out security forces, the sources said on Saturday. (The good news is that historically, when there is a Caliphate, the Muslims begin killing each other over who will be Caliph. ~Bob)

ISIS and the threat to Turkey
Excerpt: The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) seized the Turkish consulate in Mosul, Iraq last week, abducting 49 people, including several diplomats, guards, and others. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated that Turkey would retaliate if any Turkish citizen were harmed, warning ISIS should not "test Turkey's resolve." Ankara also requested an emergency NATO meeting, after which Secretary-General Rasmussen said that NATO would not hesitate to defend and protect Turkey.

Boko Haram crisis: Dozens killed in villages near Chibok
Excerpt: Dozens of villagers are feared dead after attacks by suspected Boko Haram Islamist militants in Nigeria's northeastern Borno state. The raids on Saturday morning were close to Chibok, from where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted in April.

Chinese police shoot dead 13 attackers in restive Xinjiang
Excerpt: Chinese police shot dead 13 attackers in the restive far-western region of Xinjiang on Saturday after they rammed a car into a police station and detonated explosives, Xinhua news agency said, in the latest of a series of attacks to worry Beijing. China has been toughening its response to violent crime after a spate of attacks around the country, centred on Xinjiang, the traditional home of Muslim Uighurs. (Restive = don't go there, you might get killed. As in, "Stay out of restive South Chicago. http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/4-Dead-15-Wounded-in-Weekend-Chicago-Violence-264156581.html. ~Bob)

Sudanese Christian mom spared death sentence rearrested trying to leave country
Excerpt: Meriam Ibrahim, who gave birth in a Khartoum prison after being sentenced to death in May for allegedly converting from Islam to Christianity, was arrested with her husband, Daniel Wani, at Khartoum airport as she tried to leave the country, according to Al-Sharif Ali, a member of her legal team.

Excerpt: This murder was a very big deal for awhile among Leftists and Islamic supremacists, although now (of course) they have forgotten that it ever happened. At the time, because of the note that was found by the body saying “Go back to your country, you terrorist,” the crime was universally reported as being motivated by “Islamophobia,” and the work of an “Islamophobe” who hated Shaima Alawadi for wearing a hijab. They even staged a campaign, “One Million Hijabs for Shaima Alawadi.” When it turned out to be an Islamic honor killing and Shaima’s husband was arrested for the murder, they went silent — with no retractions or apologies, of course.

Israeli killed on Passover eve was murdered by Palestinian freed in Shalit deal
Excerpt: Police Chief Superintendent Baruch Mizrahi was killed by Ziad Awad, a Palestinian freed from an Israeli jail as part of the prisoner deal that freed Gilad Shalit. ... Before launching the attack, Awad confided in his son that he had religious motivation, saying that, "according to Islam, whoever kills a Jew goes to heaven." (Note to Obama: If you deal with terrorists, more people die. ~Bob)
