How Stupid Do They
Think We Are?
Colonel Donald J. Myers USMC (Ret)
I continue to be amazed by the antics that comes out of
Washington D. C on a routine basis. It seems that far too many of our elected
leaders fail to appreciate the fact that it is almost impossible for any type
of event not to be taped by someone. It is even more difficult for any type of
event not to be recorded today because of the new phones and other recorders.
The shooting in the LA airport and the bombing at the Boston marathon are two of the most recent
examples.
In addition to recordings that cause some politicians difficulty, a huge number of Americans are well educated and read. These Americans are veterans, retirees, and holders of jobs in every type of endeavor. Many are or have been bosses, senior military people, teachers, scientists, economists, and countless other backgrounds. The greatest percentage have never been involved in politics or followed it very closely because they were too busy making a living and raising their families. They assume that those they elect will do what they said they would do. I'm not sure that was ever true, but in the past, the government was not as intrusive as it is now. We are told what type of toilet we can buy, what kind of light bulb, what type of washer, etc, etc, etc. Now we are told what kind in medical insurance we must buy. Merely because though one's wife is well past the age for child birth she still must have maternity insurance. Does that even make sense?
The thousands of pages of regulations already written and
the thousands more that will be written merely add to the loss of freedom. How
is that explained to the regular citizen? It isn't.
ObamaCare was passed on a partisan basis with not a single Republican vote in either the House or Senate. In addition it was passed on Christmas Eve with no one reading it. Remember Nancy Pelosi stated that, "we had to pass the bill in order to learn what was in it." Aren't we always advised to read a document before we sign it? Additionally, these bills are supposed to be available on the Internet for days so that citizens can read them before they become law. That has not happened in years. The rollout of the Obamacare took over three and a half years and cost almost one billion dollars and it is a total disaster.
If all of this is not enough, now the president has gone public about what he said about those who liked their insurance policies. That is not what he said and numerous tapes of the president promising Americans that they can keep their policies and doctors prove that point. Now he has added a caveat to those statements that he never said.
While all of this is broiling, the president is now trying
to push immigration reform. Wouldn't it be more appropriate if we solved one
problem before taking on another one? Unlike other fiascos, the ObamaCare
touches everyone and more and more Americans are paying attention. Those
politicians who are up for reelection, especially in red states, are
beginning to appreciate the fact that we are not as stupid as they thought we
were and that really scares them. gee, they may have to get a real job.

They think we're very stupid, very ignorant, or totally lacking in common sense.
