Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for April 4, 2013
Robert A. Hall
Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Excerpt: In the United States , when the Union army of occupation withdrew from the South, years after the Civil War, majority rule returned to the Southern states-- and the freedom of blacks was drastically restricted from what it had been under military rule.
Those who applauded the spread of democracy in the Middle East seemed to assume that the "Arab Spring" meant greater freedom.
As Obama begins fundraising swing, campaign finance watchdogs growl
Excerpt: The evening festivities are part of a two-day Western swing by Obama, arranged foremost as a return of the Democrats’ No. 1 fundraiser to the money trail just five months after Obama won his final election.
Food Stamp Use Swells as Unemployment Recedes
Excerpt: Despite a variety of indicators suggesting the economy is recovering, food stamp utilization remains high. The high participation rate is due to broadened eligibility rules, says the Wall Street Journal. While the financial crisis ended in 2009, enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly called food stamps, has increased dramatically. The number of people receiving SNAP benefits rose 70 percent between 2008 and December 2012 to a record 47.8 million individuals. Official estimates project that participation will rise slightly in 2013 and fall only slightly in 2014. (Advertising them in Mexico probably doesn't help. ~Bob.)
Excerpt: We have a medal for those who remotely operate drones, but the Pentagon claims awarding the victims of the 2009 shooting with Purple Hearts would jeopardize the shooter's chance at a fair trial. We recently noted that the Obama administration's shameful designation of the Nov. 5, 2009, rampage at the Army base in Killeen, Texas, by Major Nidal Hasan as "workplace violence" had denied survivors benefits they would have been entitled to had the attack been properly labeled an act of terror. (Point #1 is that if the Army could have taken less than three years plus to get to Hasan's trial, this would not be a problem. How in hell can it take so long to set up a trial when the evidence is so overwhelming? This is the judges and the system being super duper beyond all belief PC, letting the defense play games for time, time, time. Have a quick trial and then he can appeal for the next 10 years on Death Row would have been the obvious simple thing to do. But no, they had to let the legal game playing go on, as it still goes on now. "Workplace violence" is so ridiculous a claim that it deserves screaming laughter, and then utter contempt. How any man or woman could stand up in public and have that come out of their mouth is impossible for me to understand. The PC generals are shafting the victims again, which is so awful and so shameful that words fail me. If we had a real leader in the Oval Office he would have sent down a little memo to the generals and said "get this done, and NOW". I know, I know, that's just a fantasy worse than falling through the looking glass. --Del )
NY state senator arrested in alleged plot to bribe way into NYC mayor’s race; others charged
Excerpt: A Democratic state lawmaker was arrested along with five other politicians Tuesday in an alleged plot to pay tens of thousands of dollars in bribes to GOP bosses to let him run for mayor of New York City as a Republican. U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara called it an “unappetizing smorgasbord of graft and greed” that reveals a New York political culture defined by a single rule: “Show me the money.”
How Obama is like Nixon. By Al Kamen
Excerpt: With the pick of Caroline Kennedy as his ambassador to Japan, President Obama seems to be channeling an unlikely muse: Richard Nixon. Obama and Tricky Dick are generally thought to have little in common. But on ambassadorships, the two presidents seem quite sympatico. (Alike in more ways than this, I think. ~Bob.)
Video: ‘I Hate Christians and Am Disgusted by Them’ – Muslim Cleric
Excerpt: Dr. Abdullah Badr—an Egyptian Muslim scholar, Al Azhar graduate, and professor of Islamic exegesis, who spent ten years in prison under Mubarak, but, along with any number of Islamic terrorists and agitators, was released under Morsi—recently gave an excellent summation of the second half of the highly divisive Muslim doctrine of wala’ wa bara’ (or, “Love and Hate”)—namely, that the true Muslim should love and help fellow Muslims, while hating and being disgusted by non-Muslims. (Guess they aren’t really into that tolerant, multicultural thing. ~Bob.)
Great Quotes from The Patriot Post
It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood. –James Madison, Federalist No. 62
On Tuesday, the Associated Press announced that it is banishing the phrase 'illegal immigrant' from its famous stylebook. ... AP explains that it wants to stop labeling people. Hah. This is the same organization that employs journalists who have repeatedly shown naked bias against tea party members, gun owners and pro-life activists. ... I propose that we banish the term 'journalist' when referring to members of mainstream news organizations who pose as neutral news-gathers while carrying out a blatantly ideological agenda. –columnist Michelle Malkin
Most of the social liberalism comes with quite a price tag. The most reliable constituency for Big Government is single women, for whom the state is a girl's best friend, the sugar daddy whose checks never bounce. A society in which a majority of births are out of wedlock cannot be other than a Big Government welfare society. Ruining a nation's finances is one thing; debauching its human capital is far harder to fix. –columnist Mark Steyn
A new report shows that PETA killed 90% of the dogs & cats placed in its animal shelter. President Obama, though, was quick to praise the organization because at least they didn't waterboard. –Fred Thompson
In a groundbreaking move, the Associated Press, the largest news gathering outlet in the world, will no longer use the term 'illegal immigrant.' That is out. No longer 'illegal immigrant.' They will now use the phrase 'undocumented Democrat.' –comedian Jay Leno

Excerpt: Suicide bombers disguised as Afghan soldiers attacked a government compound Wednesday in a failed bid to free more than a dozen Taliban prisoners being transferred to court proceedings in western Afghanistan , officials said. At least 10 people were reported killed, including three of the attackers.
First Couple hosts celeb-filled concert amid sequestration
Excerpt: President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle will host a star-studded roster of music legends April 9 for another glitzy installment in the “In Performance at the White House” concert series, according to a White House press released issued Tuesday. The concert comes as the White House is emphasizing cuts caused by sequestration and criticizing reporters for not paying enough attention to the hardship caused by the mandatory slowdown in the rate of spending increases.

Excerpt: From “Mad Jack” to the “Kilted Killer,” these three men distinguished themselves in bravery — and in style — in the war against the Axis, and for that TheDC salutes them. … And although the resistance unit he first met up with was small, unproven and poorly armed, through cunning, vicious tactics and bombastic style — he wore his full Highlander’s battledress, including the kilt — he was able to galvanize the Frenchmen.
Excerpt: The U.S government states that there are 12 million illegals here (Most say there are more than 30 million) and sending them home would be impossible, even though they costs us $300 billion a year in Welfare, WIC, Section 8 Public Housing, Food Stamps, free public education and free medical care, plus the cost to incarcerate the large Hispanic criminal element. Following that logic, there are approximately 50 million Americans actually paying all of the taxes which run our government: What would happen if, next April 15th, the entire 50 million of us just sat on our checkbook and refuse to write a check to the IRS? Would the government then say "oh, there's too many of them, we can't do anything about it".
MP demands action over shocking contents of Islamic letter on Halifax schooling
Excerpt: The letter said: “If it was said to us ‘If you do not attend this meeting your child will die’ I am certain we would all make sure that we attend the meeting. What I am about to address (in Islam) is even more serious than death and that is for us and our children to be safe on the Day of Judgement. There have been several incidents recently where children in various settings have been forced to do things against Islam.”
Mumbai Police's jihad circular on girls and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind kicks up storm
Excerpt: The "internal circular" said the Girls Islamic Organisation (GIO) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, one of the country's largest Islamic organisations that runs 40 high schools and three junior colleges in Maharashtra , has been operating with the objective of "brainwashing college and school girls and train them for jihad".
Ex-Atlanta schools superintendent surrenders
Excerpt: But test scores dramatically improved during her 12-year tenure in the mostly poor, urban district, earning her bonuses and accolades as the nation's top superintendent. Now she's fighting to clear her name after she and nearly three dozen subordinates were indicted in what prosecutors say was a broad conspiracy to achieve those results by cheating. (Democrat. Explanation enough. – LLW. Her career benefits if she gets away with it, while poor black kids suffer because they are ill prepared to cope with the real world. Typical. ~Bob.)
The New Climate Deniers
Excerpt: There are few things sadder than the “climate denier.” He ignores the data and neglects the latest science. His rhetoric and policy proposals are dangerously disconnected from reality. He can’t recalibrate to take account of the latest evidence because, well, he’s a denier. The new climate deniers are the liberals who, despite their obsession with climate change, have managed to miss the biggest story in climate science, which is that there hasn’t been any global warming for about a decade and a half.
Inconvenient Headlines. By Mona Charen
Excerpt: It's a deeply felt conviction among liberals that they are the caring party. … In Florida , the legislature is considering a variant of the "Born Alive Infants Protection Act," which would require that abortionists provide medical assistance to infants who are "accidentally" born alive and kicking during an abortion. (Then State Senator Barack Obama vociferously opposed similar legislation in Illinois .)
Re: Obama's $1 Million Trip to Colorado to Talk about Gun Control.
Think of the tens of millions of travel dollars that could be saved, if politicians just learned to teleconference. I'll bet the White House has some of the finest 60" Plasma televisions made. They could get everyone plugged in, order up pizza and beer, and go at it. God almighty, do I have to do all the thinking for them? --LLW.

Excerpt: Where did all the money go? “Your guess is as good as mine,” David Montoya, the inspector general of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, says of $700 million in missing taxpayer money that Louisiana homeowners were given in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to elevate and protect their homes from future storms. (“There are seven hundred million stories in the ‘Chocolate City .’ This is one of them.” ~Bob.)
A Carbon Tax Would Destroy America . By Alan Caruba
If you want to know what a carbon tax on emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) would do to America you need only look at the destruction of industry and business in Australia , along with the soaring costs for energy use it imposes on anyone there. ((People have generally been careful to avoid any detailed examination of what a carbon tax would accomplish, but now we have some solid information about what effects have been experienced in Australia. These are of critical importance, but are not being covered in the US by the MSM. Meanwhile, the Obama Administration is perking along with their unpublicized plans to impose a carbon tax within the next couple of years. This would have dire consequences for the nation, and we need this to be spread throughout our people as widely as possible. –Del. Progressives don’t care who gets hurt or what the results are for real people, as long as they can feel good about being for the right things. ~Bob.)
Obama Can 'Simply Ban All Handguns
Excerpt: On Tuesday, the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to approve the Arms Trade Treaty, or ATT. Supporters, including the Obama administration, contend this is designed to crack down on illicit arms trafficking, but critics say it’s really an effort to stamp out gun rights in the U.S. and beyond. (Now that would put the cat among the pigeons, if true. ~Bob.)
