Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for April 2, 2013

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for April 2, 2013
Robert A. Hall

Google has totally trashed G-Mail. Their new "compose" feature is about the most user-hostile program I've used. The old one worked very well, except they were never able to figure out the advanced technology Outlook has to auto spell-check. Haven't been able to find spell check at all on the new one. Temporarily clicked back on the easy to use one. Not sure what I will do. I'd like to find another provider, but my g-mail address is on websites, business cards and in my books, so they have me trapped into this torture. Stay tuned. Sigh. ~Bob

Sorry for no Monday SitRep, which means a long one today, with lots of good links. It was a long weekend. In addition to Bunny Duty, Friday I ended up in the ER with a nose bleed that wouldn’t stop. Kitchen looked like a slaughter house when I cleaned it up. Third one I’ve had in a month, and the worst, so I guess it’s time to see an ENT guy. I was pretty beat Saturday. Then at 6:15 am Saturday morning, Bonnie’s baby grandson Dale’s God Parents lost their teenage daughter. She and five other teens were in an SUV and violated three of the four rules I give in Advice for my Granddaughter for greatly reducing your chances of dying in a car wreck. They were speeding. They were drinking. They weren’t wearing seatbelts. Most were thrown out when it rolled, and she was DOA. She leaves a tiny baby behind, who was in Mexico with her parents at the time. (The fourth rule is avoid distracted driving, such as using a phone to talk or text. No report if they were doing that.) ~Bob.

Excerpt: I’ve read a lot of doom-and-gloom analysis from financial experts over the last couple of years, but this one by former Reagan OMB Director David Stockman takes first prize for scaring the holy living beejeeses out of me. A few highlights: Since the S.&P. 500 first reached its current level, in March 2000, the mad money printers at the Federal Reserve have expanded their balance sheet sixfold (to $3.2 trillion from $500 billion). Yet during that stretch, economic output has grown by an average of 1.7 percent a year (the slowest since the Civil War); real business investment has crawled forward at only 0.8 percent per year; and the payroll job count has crept up at a negligible 0.1 percent annually. (He must have read my book, The Coming Collapse of the American Republic. ~Bob.)

Caroline Kennedy to be ambassador to Japan
Excerpt: Looks like there will be a Camelot East — make that Far East: Caroline Kennedy is heading to Tokyo to be the U.S. ambassador. Kennedy, whose support for President Obama during his 2008 campaign was seen as crucial, had been widely talked about as a candidate for the plum diplomatic post, but now things have apparently been firmed up. (Highly qualified, because she has sushi at least once a week. ~Bob.)

Ousted Nevada legislator arrested near Barstow after car chase
Excerpt: A disgraced Nevada politician who just hours earlier had been expelled from the State Assembly in an unprecedented vote was arrested outside Barstow after a high-speed chase with police. ... The arrest marked the continued downward spiral of a politician who had multiple run-ins with authorities in recent months. Brooks, a Democrat, represented a blue-collar district in North Las Vegas. (We had a senator become mentally ill, and make al kinds of inflammatory charges, claiming, for example, the Capital Police had panted anti-Semitic slogans on his office, which he removed before the media came. The media, naturally, pictured him as a crusader against the powerful and fed the illness until even they became frightened. Thankfully, after the vote, his family got him into treatment. He came back months later, calm and smiling, to finish his term. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: During 2012, the three leading global credit rating companies, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) commended Israel's economic performance and expressed confidence in its long-term viability. On September 30, 2012, Standard and Poor's (S&P) reaffirmed Israel's A+ credit rating, at a time when it lowered the credit rating of an increasing number of Western countries. According to S&P, "the Israeli economy continues to generate solid economic growth…. Major security risks will be contained…. There is sufficient political will to prevent a sizable increase in the government's debt burden.

Valerie Singleton tells the truth about the BBC. By Damian Thompson
Excerpt: People didn’t expect the Beeb or the Church to lie, and this naivety created a black hole of unaccountability that still exists. Just as licence fee payers know little about the self-indulgence of BBC mandarins, so most Catholics have no idea how greedy and complacent the Roman and English hierarchies have become. (Significantly, there’s a plot by certain bishops to unseat the Pope’s new ambassador to Britain, Archbishop Mennini, who wants to blow the whistle on these corrupt ways.)

Obama’s Newest Partner In Crime: Obama plans with Muslim Brotherhood
Excerpt: On February 27, 2012, WikiLeaks released hundreds of thousands of emails hacked from Stratfor, aka Strategic Forecasting, Inc., which some have called “the shadow CIA.” A group of hackers responsible for the breach of Stratfor was led by Jeremy Hammond, now facing decades in prison and a multimillion dollar lawsuit from Stratfor. Like many nabbed by our current President, Hammond has been held indefinitely in solitary confinement and has not been granted a trial.

White House Scrubs First Daughters’ Ski Trip Report
Excerpt: A local news affiliate in Idaho reported that the First Daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama, are on a Spring Break ski trip in Sun Valley, Idaho. The story quickly spread across the Internet when picked up by the highly trafficked Drudge Report website. But hours later, the story disappeared from the KMVT website without an update or correction. Breitbart News confirmed that the White House requested that the post be removed.

Excerpt: Outrageous as it may seem to some, rather than respond appropriately to the criticism and back off from the extravagant vacations, Michelle and Barry chose instead to thumb their noses at America by flying Sasha and Malia from the Atlantis in the Bahamas to Sun Valley, Idaho to top off Easter week with a little skiing. For those who are shocked, here's the bottom line: Nothing anyone does or says is going to change who these people are. It is now crystal clear that no amount of public disapproval or disparagement will deter them from spending our money to wantonly indulge themselves as often as they please.

CURL: The Obamas live the 1 percent life
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/mar/31/curl-the-obamas-live-the-1-percent-life/#ixzz2PELsR78p
Excerpt….But something remarkable has happened with these occupants of the White House: Neither President Obama nor first lady Michelle appear to give a damn about perception. They won the White House and, by God, they’re going to enjoy their time there, no matter the cost. And who cares what you think, anyway?

Sasha and Malia Obama 'Learn What They Live'
http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/03/sasha_and_malia_obama_learn_what_they_live.html#ixzz2PCT3EJNG
Excerpt: If it's really true that "children learn what they live," then the First Daughters are learning how to be highbrow aristocrats whose extravagances are enjoyed without embarrassment, in full view and at the expense of the suffering. That's right, "the suffering," because notwithstanding the onslaught of Obamaganda, most people in America today, thanks to Sasha and Malia's Dad, are suffering in one way or another. Meanwhile, when it comes to showering themselves with the perks of the good life, the Obamas exercise zero restraint.

Excerpt: Across North Korea, soldiers are gearing up for battle and shrouding their jeeps and vans with camouflage netting. Newly painted signboards and posters call for "death to the U.S. imperialists" ... (What makes this so disturbing isn't that North Korea is a major threat to the U.S., it's that they think they are. They are so cut loose from reality that they actually believe they are a major world power. The only countries they can actually threaten are in their own neighborhood - South Korea and maybe Japan. If China doesn't rein in that buffoonish little freak of nature, he may start, or more accurately, re-start a suicidal war with the South. Then, since we are committed to the defense of South Korea, I guess we will see how much Obama has damaged our naval air power. - LLW)

Excerpt: Anyone who watched Mitt and Ann Romney being interviewed on Chris Wallace’s Sunday morning show and didn’t regret that they aren’t ensconced in the White House, instead of the Obamas, has a very weak grasp on reality. When even Bill O’Reilly, who was busy telling his viewers just a few short months ago that Barack Obama was a nice guy and didn’t have a socialist bone in his body, has finally seen the light, I say that any Republican who sat home last November because he didn’t think Romney was conservative enough or because he couldn’t bring himself to vote for a Mormon, should take himself out behind the woodshed and give himself a good tanning.

Excerpt: Most of us go to a theater, agree to suspend reality for two hours, see a good movie, then walk out of the theater to the real world. Perhaps three out of ten in the audience are young, impressionable, or suffering from low I.Q.'s, and refuse to return to reality. Those unfortunates live in the world of music and matinee idols and are so poorly grounded that they elevate their celebrity idols to "golden calf" stature. In turn, those ephemeral screen and stage idols fall prey to the spell of their "worshippers."

How the invasion of immigrants into every corner of England has made a mockery of Prime Minister's promise to close the door. By Peter Hitchens
Excerpt: [A pampered elite] long for a horrible borderless Utopia in which love of country has vanished, nannies are cheap and other people’s wages are low. What a pity it is that there seems to be no way of turning these people out of their positions of power and influence. For if there is to be any hope of harmony in these islands, then it can only come through a great effort to bring us all together, once again, in a shared love for this, the most beautiful and blessed plot of earth on the planet.

UK: A family who escaped to a happy ending: What is the problem with Britain's social workers? By Christopher Booker
Excerpt: There are few things odder about our social workers than their response to the ever-rising number of parents who try to evade their clutches by fleeing abroad. As I have often reported, they seem prepared to stop at nothing to get the children back to Britain. Just occasionally, however, their zeal is foiled, as in the case of the family (pictured, above), who now live in the West Indian island of St Vincent.

UK: Global Warming: If only we'd listened to the experts, eh? By James Delingpole
Excerpt: Actually, though, if you'll look at the facts – something that the Warmists appear increasingly loath to do – what you'll realise is that our winters ARE getting colder. That there has been no statistically significant warming since January 1997.

Excerpt: A Texas prosecutor and his wife were found killed in their house two months after one of his assistants was gunned down near their office, authorities said. (I think I can narrow the search for the killer down for them. He (probably) will be black or Hispanic (likely illegal...oops, I mean undocumented), probably out on parole. Will certainly not be politically conservative. If a voter, will have voted for Obama. Will not have obtained his gun(s) legally. Does not care about the current gun debate, since it doesn't apply to him. – LLW. I think likely the cartels. Depends on who he crossed. ~Bob.)

Breitbart News Interview With Assassinated DA Before His Death
Excerpt: A national security expert who has spent several years in intelligence gathering operations around the Mexican drug cartels' criminal insurgency into the continental United States told Breitbart News, "This assassination of DA McClellend and his wife is meant to send a message: no one is safe, no one is beyond our reach. …. "This type of high-profile targeting of public officials is a classic insurgent tactic. (Yeah, per DHS those borders are really secure. –Barb. After the recent murders of district attorneys in Texas and Colorado, I've been watching and listening to law enforcement people in those states talk about additional security at courthouses, and providing physical security for district attorneys. It seems to me that that's going to take a lot of expensive manpower that could be better used for issuing speeding tickets and guarding donut shops, when he solution is so in your face simple. Just post "This is a gun free zone" signs around the courthouses and homes of district attorneys. There. Problem solved. Really, do I have to do all the thinking for them? –LLW.)

Excerpt: Mexican drug cartels whose operatives once rarely ventured beyond the U.S. border are dispatching some of their most trusted agents to live and work deep inside the United States -- an emboldened presence that experts believe is meant to tighten their grip on the world's most lucrative narcotics market and maximize profits. If left unchecked, authorities say, the cartels' move into the American interior could render the syndicates harder than ever to dislodge and pave the way for them to expand into other criminal enterprises such as prostitution, kidnapping-and-extortion rackets and money laundering.

Excerpt: One of Afghanistan's most surprising success stories lies tucked away on a potholed street notorious for suicide bombings and lined with rusting construction equipment. The work of the country's top tax collector is more inspiring than the view from his office in Kabul. Taxes and customs raised $1.64 billion last financial year, a 14-fold increase on 10 years ago. That means, now, the government can pay just over half of its recurrent costs such as salaries. (Forget the Taliban, this is what's making the Afghan's panties ride up on them. - LLW)

Excerpt: On March 30, the Ibn Taymiyyah Media Center warned on its Facebook page that preparations are being made by Hamas to launch a mass campaign of arrests against Salafi jihadists in the Gaza Strip. According to the warning, members of Hamas' al Qassam Brigades are expected to partake in the arrests, which could begin as early as Saturday. The statement advised "our brothers and loved ones to exercise the utmost caution and care, and be on full alert."

UK: 900,000 choose to come off sickness benefits ahead of tests. By Patrick Hennessey
Excerpt: Mr Shapps said: “One of the cruelest things about this welfare system, which had developed over decades...is that it traps people who want to work hard and get on in life with no other option but to be trapped into a life on welfare. “It’s cruel, I think the system had actually become literally cruel, even evil to people. People suspected for a long time that incapacity benefit had been used by the previous government to hide the unemployed. (This is what happened to me in Los Angeles. It took me from the day of my arrival there in January 2006 until March 2009 to admit to myself that I was not being paranoid, that the socialist system really was stacked against me, that they didn't want me to have a job, that the "right" thing to do in LA was to apply for disability. I now owe almost $15,000 in student loan debt because I didn't apply for disability. This is what turned me into a conservative. Kate.)

Libya: Head of Parliament Human Rights Committee flees country after threats, as Christian persecution escalates
Excerpt: This is the regime Obama put in power. I received this email this morning from a man in Libya: I Hope my name will not be disclosed for i am still in libya and this kind of activity posses a serious threat to me and my family.

The cemetery of the victims of human cruelty in our century is extended to include yet another vast cemetery, that of the unborn. --John Paul II

A bipartisan abdication. By George F. Will
Excerpt: “President Obama has arguably established the authority of the president to intervene militarily virtually anywhere without the consent or the approval of Congress, at his own discretion and for as long as he wishes.” — Jim Webb As America tiptoes toward a fourth intervention in an opaque and uncontrollable conflict — now Syria, after Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya — Webb’s words require two minor modifications: Obama has demonstrated a power, not an authority; only the Constitution authorizes. And as Webb understands, Obama has been able to do so only because Congress has become too supine to wield its constitutional powers. (This is a condemnation of the whole gaggle of politicians in DC, both the President and Congress, for not acting as they should according to the oath they take to the Constitution at every new session. Jim Webb is a maverick, former Republican turned Democrat turned disgusted with everyone. And he has good reason. --Del)

Immigrant Hops Fence While US Senators Tour Mexican Border
Excerpt: However, as four US Senators, John McCain (R-AZ), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Michael Bennet (D-CO), were touring the border at Nogales, Arizona, a female Mexican national managed to scale the 18 foot border fence right before their eyes.

Harry Reid’s New Gun Control Bill Is Designed To Destroy Gun Ownership
Excerpt: According to Gun Owners of America: We expected it to contain the Veterans Gun Ban, which would mean that you would sell, gift, or raffle a gun in America at the risk of a 15-year prison sentence because of something you didn’t know about the veteran/buyer.

Do you miss global warming yet?
I do. There was something heart warming about that narrative, like granny reading us kids stories from the Brothers Grimm. A few days ago I received a photo from my friend Rich in PA showing a fairly strong snow storm in these last days of March, which is not going out like a lamb. I just got an email from a prof friend who is visiting Germany soon and has friends there. He says this has been the coldest March in Germany for over 100 years. Coldest March? Goodness, is the global warming ending so soon? And to add injury to insult, a few days ago a friend from York sent me pics of the snow there. In the early 2000s, they were ONLY talking about global warming, not climate change, writing this sort of thing:
http://planetsave.com/2009/06/07/global-warming-effects-and-causes-a-top-10-list/According to research published in Nature, by 2050, rising temperatures could lead to the extinction of more than a million species. And because we can’t exist without a diverse population of species on Earth, this is scary news for humans. This 2009 article does not mention 'climate change' one single time (yet that is the only climate narrative today. How quickly the future changes!). That term was popularized later when it was clear that the warming predictions--which they had been selling to the public as though chiseled in stone-- were iffy at best. Their unmistakable message in this typical 2009 article was that global warming would last at least until 2050. Now that cooler than usual temperatures are being recorded, some of the earlier alarmists are back tracking by asserting that global warming was always expected to segue into global cooling. That is true, sort of. That is, the 'scientists' behind these reports did say eventually there could be a cooling trend after many years of warming. But when 'scientific' articles suggested the warming trend might well continue until 2050, and when they warned that the polar ice caps were melting and the polar bears were at risk, it should be clear now that they just simply don't know and we would all be better off if they stuck to what they actually do know and stop the alarmist speculating. Just this subtle change in the narrative shows that either they were rushing to sell their narrative (and their carbon credit schemes) or scientists lack the precise methods to make the kind of long term forecasts they try to make. So long live the polar bear! I think he will.
Happy Easter! --Don Hank

Cancer Drug That Shrinks All Tumors Set To Begin Human Clinical Trials
Excerpt: A study published March 2012 discusses researchers' find that the one-for-all antibody drug successfully blocks a specific protein, CD47, from tricking the body's immune system into not destroying harmful cells. Though this protein is present on the surface of healthy blood cells, the team from Stanford University's School of Medicine determined that CD47 levels were significantly higher in all cancer cells. The single antibody treatment works by blocking the protein's signal, thus instructing the body's immune system to attack the cancer cells.

Myths and Realities of Obamacare. By Sally Pipes
Excerpt: Myth 2: Obamacare will reduce cost. Reality: The U.S. annually spends about 18 percent of GDP or $2.6 trillion on health care. The original Obamacare cost estimate from the CBO was $940 billion over ten years. In early 2013, the CBO revised the estimate up to $1.3 trillion between 2013 and 2022. Since most of the cost drivers (Medicaid expansion, the individual mandate, the employer mandate, and the subsidies) in Obamacare do not go into effect until 2014, the cost will probably exceed $2.6 trillion between 2014 and 2023. The cost curve will not “bend down.”

Eve of Holiday, Muslims Hurl Rocks at Jews on Temple Mount
Excerpt: Once again, extremist Muslims tried but failed to prevent Jews from accessing the holiest site in the Jewish faith, with the threat of attacks. …The site was open on the eve of the final day of the Passover holiday in the morning from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and scheduled to reopen from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon. But a crowd of “at least 30" Arab rioters gathered at about 10:30 a.m. and began hurling rocks at the Jewish visitors when they reached the site, the most sacred place in the world in Judaism.

Bennett: Obama Visit was Like Oslo Revisited. Minister says Obama's peacey-feely statements reminded him of euphoria preceding terror war. This time, he vows, things will be different.
Excerpt: Minister of Economy and Trade, Naftali Bennett , Chairman of the Bayit Yehudi party, wrote a Facebook post Friday in which he spoke of his feelings during the visit to Israel by U.S. President Barack Obama. The feelings were not good ones…. "I was reminded of the Second Intifada," he wrote, using the Arab term for the massive terror war launched by Yasser Arafat in 2000, sometimes also referred to as the Oslo War.

PA, Jordan Ink Deal to 'Defend' Jerusalem Against 'Judaization'
Excerpt: Jordan's King Abdullah II and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmud Abbas signed an agreement on Sunday confirming their "common goal to defending" Jerusalem and their opposition to efforts to “Judaize” the eternal capital of Israel. Palestinian Authority Religious Affairs Minister Mahmoud al-Habash said the agreement confirmed Jordan’s role as protector of the city’s holy sites and “Palestinian sovereignty over all of Palestine, including its capital East Jerusalem,” the Ma’an news agency reported.

Chuck Norris lists dozens of disturbing attacks on Christian faith
Excerpt: Last week in Part 1, I gave 12 examples of how religious liberty has been assaulted in just the past two years in the U.S. Here are a couple dozen more instances just for good measure, as reported by the Family Research Council, the office of Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., and various media outlets.

Russia Launches Surprise Military Exercise in Black Sea
Excerpt: Russian President Vladimir Putin surprised his defense minister in the wee hours of Thursday morning last week with an order for surprise military drills to test battle readiness in the Black Sea. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was awakened at 4:00 a.m. local time with sealed orders to activate 7,000 troops, 36 ships, up to 20 fighter jets and helicopters and 50 pieces of artillery.

Excerpt: This video will probably break your heart while watching it, but it is a must watch. It is the testimony of different Egyptian Youth on how 30 of them were kidnapped and taken into the Bilal Mosque in Moqattam on March 22 (after Friday Prayers). They were beaten by around 50 Muslim Brotherhood men with clubs, whips, and chains until they were ‘broken’.

World traveling Administration leaves terminally-ill veteran stranded
Excerpt: Jen Salvati, VAC Operations Manager, said that Dishon’s illness had been designated as 100 percent service-connected since he contracted it while still on active duty, and that he thus would ordinarily have qualified for military air transport; however, she said, she had been informed that funding for such mercy flights has been curtailed by Sequester budget cuts and that the armed forces have been appealing to private sources for help. (When we still have money to give $500M to the Palestinians, fighter jets to the Muslim Brotherhood to kill Jews with and send the First Daughters on two back to back Spring Break trips with all their guards and attendants, it’s hard for me to believe that the sequester is a problem. ~Bob.)

One Teen’s Story On The Indoctrination In Our Schools.
Excerpt: Many Americans who stand up for the public school system and the unions believe there is no attempt to sway opinion or that students with opposing beliefs are singled out. Unfortunately, experiences I have had with harassment and bullying prove that wrong. This is a timeline of the most extreme cases of harassment and indoctrination I have had in the three different public schools I have attended over the last three years. (Bill Ayers is a consultant….Barb.)

Excerpt: Regarding Jordan, Jeffrey Goldberg has written an extremely valuable profile of Abdullah. The Jordanian monarch is telling Western visitors that their countries are making a huge mistake by supporting the Islamists. He complains that the U.S. State Department is ignoring him, and further, that U.S. officials are telling him: “The only way you can have democracy is through the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Excerpt: Americans’ tax dollars may currently be supporting terrorist groups by way of 43 questionable contractors used by the U.S. Army. After passage of the “No Contracting with the Enemy Act” provision of the Fiscal Year 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) identified nine contractors and the Entity List, a notification by the Department of Commerce supported by all-source intelligence analysis, identified 34 more as potentially having direct links to an insurgent or terrorist group. These recommendations to suspend or terminate work with a contractor were referred to the Army for investigation in September 2012. (Your tax $$ at work. –Barb.)

New EPA Tier 3 Regulations Threaten to Drive Up Gas Prices: "The Obama Administration is modeling our regulations after California, which has the worst economy in the nation."
Excerpt: Claiming its new rule will save some 2,400 lives a year, the Environmental Protection Agency today introduced requirements for major cuts to sulfur in gasoline. …“The Tier 3 rule is one more example of the administration’s desire to increase energy prices for Americans,” American Energy Alliance Director of Regulatory and State Affairs Daniel Simmons said. “It is never ‘common sense’ to drive up gasoline prices when so many Americans are struggling to make ends meet.”

Illegal alien pleads guilty to sex trafficking South Korean women
Excerpt: A South Korean man, who entered the U.S. on a temporary visa and then illegally remained in the United States, pleaded guilty to transporting female illegal aliens into the state... (Of course, it is great that they caught this jerk and his moll.
But the truth of the matter is that in such cases, despite the standard rhetoric about 'abuse,' the ladies involved came willingly and knew what they were doing. BUT they --maybe even the moll, who will almost certainly turn state's evidence on the jerk--will quite likely be able to stay thanks to Uncle Sam's soft heart for women who have been 'exploited.' If that happens the chances that they will go straight are slim. Don't look for them to become model citizens. --Don Hank. I think there is a lot of evidence that many of the woman imported in the sex trade are lured by promises of real jobs, then held as slaves. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: And, as two educators have recently learned, it’s also generally good advice to avoid stomping on Jesus and the American flag in public schools. The Florida Atlantic University instructor who asked students to step on the word “Jesus” has been placed on administrative leave on the same day that the high school teacher in South Carolina who stomped on an American flag in front of his students way back in December finally resigned…. The announcement comes after FAU already issued a groveling, nearly-touching apology and Florida Gov. Rick Scott blasted the school as “intolerant to Christians.” (RELATED VIDEO: Florida Atlantic issues new groveling apology over Jesus-stomping) (Per article, SC teacher had multiple nominations for teacher of year and FL teacher was suspended from duties because of “threats to his personal safety” from pro-Christian callers. Right. –Barb.)

The Truth About Geoengineering

Excerpt: …In contrast, SRM raises serious political and policy questions. Although quick and cheap, messing with the complex and imperfectly understood climate system, which is already stressed by warming gases, could end badly. Severe side effects might, for example, include a shift in the seasonal monsoons that many countries rely on for rainfall and agriculture, or accelerate the destruction of the ozone layer. (Per Michael Murphy, the latter is what has been happening, with large rents in the protective ozone layer created by these programs and the droughts and floods….Article notes movement to attempt to regulate programs. Too little, too late. Anyone feel like a lab rat? Oh, SRM= “Solar Radiation Management” = aluminum particles in your soil, air, water….and possibly other things. –Barb.)

6 Green Lies Threatening to Starve You: It started with the gas in your car. Now the green police are coming after the food in your fridge.
Excerpt: The case built by green movement organizations like the NRDC relies on a tightly wound knot of lies. These falsehoods appear in the NRDC’s mission “to safeguard the Earth, its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on which all life depends,” as well as its “priority issues”

Excerpt: So, there was the big Arms Trade Treaty conference at the United Nations, rolling along toward consensus approval of the deal, with some 2,000 attendees gathered in New York for the grand finale. And at the last minute, the whole thing stalled out, because the Trio of Evil — Iran, Syria, and North Korea — said no. Surely that’s not because Tehran, Damascus, and Pyongyang are worried about infringing on Second Amendment rights.

Excerpt: “You had a group of teens, close to maybe 500. They assaulted a Chicago police officer that was on a mounted on a horse and all of a sudden they assaulted a citizen walking the streets, just a normal citizen shopping and enjoying the weather,” said Holmes. Later that night, a man was attacked around 10:45 p.m. while walking near Chicago and Dearborn. Sources tell us he was jumped and punched in the face by a group of teens. (So much for Easter weekend in Rahm’s city with all that gun control. However, 500 teens sounds like a mob, not a “group.” –Barb.)

Week of central Nigeria violence kills 36, houses burnt
Didn’t get the memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: Violence since Monday has seen ethnic Fulani Muslims raid Christian villages in Nigeria's Plateau state, an area where thousands have been killed in recent years in a cycle of attacks and reprisals.

Suicide attack in Timbuktu wounds soldier: officer
Excerpt: "A jihadist suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt after trying unsuccessfully to force his way through the barricade at the west entrance to Timbuktu, which was guarded by Malian soldiers," the officer told AFP by phone. "A Malian soldier was wounded" and the bomber died instantly, he added, saying he could not give further details. (Do you get any virgins if you only kill yourself? ~Bob.)

CBS reports on Muslim persecution of Christians in Syria
Excerpt: This CBS report notes forthrightly that the Syrian "rebels" are persecuting the Christians there. One thing, however -- a mainstream media report, even a good one, wouldn't be complete without at least one howling inaccuracy. Gregory III is not the "Syrian Patriarch." There is no "Syrian Patriarch."

Excerpt: But some scientists are arguing that man-made climate change is not quite so bad a threat as it appeared to be a few years ago. They point to various reasons for thinking that the planet’s “climate sensitivity”—the amount of warming that can be expected for a doubling in the carbon-dioxide level—may not be as high as was previously thought. The most obvious reason is that, despite a marked warming over the course of the 20th century, temperatures have not really risen over the past ten years.”

Twenty-year hiatus in rising temperatures has climate scientists puzzled. By Graham Lloyd, Environment Editor
Excerpt: In a lengthy article this week, The Economist magazine said if climate scientists were credit-rating agencies, then climate sensitivity - the way climate reacts to changes in carbon-dioxide levels - would be on negative watch but not yet downgraded. Another paper published by leading climate scientist James Hansen, the head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, says the lower than expected temperature rise between 2000 and the present could be explained by increased emissions from burning coal. (Interesting that we now have even the fervent supporters of Global Warming (now sometimes referred to as Climate Change) admitting that for two decades the earth's temperature has not really increased at all the way the models predicted. For 99% of scientists that would bring the entire modeling process and underlying assumptions into question, and the theory would be downgraded to a status like Unconfirmed, Still Under Investigation. But not for the Warming believers, what this does is trigger a rush to find whatever explanation they can come up with that correlates with some known activity. In this case we get the sudden epiphany that all the coal China is burning is a good thing, since it must be that the particulates liberated are blocking some of the sun's warming rays. [Nice try, but until I see some really serious, objectively gathered data proving this mechanism is in operation, it's just another rapidly conceived theory to fit what's going on.] If everyone decides to believe this, then in the US we need to stop trying to close all the coal burning energy plants, and build a few more. I will wait to see how that plays out in the environmental groups in CA. --Del)

Obama uses executive power to move gun control agenda forward
Excerpt: President Obama is quietly moving forward on gun control. The president has used his executive powers to bolster the national background check system, jumpstart government research on the causes of gun violence and create a million-dollar ad campaign aimed at safe gun ownership. The executive steps will give federal law enforcement officials access to more data about guns and their owners, help keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill, and lay the groundwork for future legislative efforts.

Worth Reading: The Radical Dream. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: The old leftist radical who still struggles to retain his passion is as common a figure in movies and television shows as the old Nazi; but while one is a despised villain, the other is a reluctant hero. The difference between them was never a matter of means. The American left has a long history of treating radical killers like heroes.

Bank of Cyprus depositors could lose up to 60% of their savings: Cypriot finance officials say initial losses will be 37.5%, but up to 22.5% more could be taken if bank needs further capitalisation
Excerpt: Savers with the Bank of Cyprus could lose up to 60% of their savings according to officials from the central bank and the finance ministry. The officials said on Saturday that deposits over €100,000 (£84,000) at the country's largest bank will lose 37.5% of their value after being converted into bank shares. If the bank were to need further capitalisation the savers could lose as much as 22.5% more, depending on an assessment by officials who will determine the exact figure needed to restore the troubled bank back to health. (You think your retirement fund is safe from the left? ~Bob.)

Cypriot Bank Thievery Rooted in Anti-Rich Hatred and Envy. By John Lillpop
Excerpt: Those who believe that blatant thievery of the sort which Cypriot depositors are about to suffer cannot happen in Barack Obama’s America are overlooking a vital truth about leftists and their relentless pursuit of agenda items. Specifically, the confiscation of wealth in Cypress is based on the same disregard (disdain) for individual property rights and blind hatred for the successful that drives Obama and Democrats to use the “rich” as a convenient punching bag to counter the mindless spending and fiduciary recklessness that have left America in a $16.3 trillion deficit hole, with no relief in sight.

New turn in baby-shooting saga: City commissioner arrested
Excerpt: The investigation into the shooting of a baby in Brunswick, Georgia -- a crime that's grabbed national headlines -- has taken yet another turn with the arrest of a local politician. The arrest stemmed from a verbal exchange between Brunswick City Commissioner James Henry Brooks and the family of one of the teen suspects in the slaying during the suspects' first court appearance on Monday. (Mother and aunt charged with making false statements to police and sister, who said her brother was not involved in any way, now indicted for disposing of gun, found in lake. –Barb.)

Latin Americans rally to restore human rights panel, reject bid by leftist regimes to silence human rights watchdog. By Roger F. Noriega
Excerpt: Prominent human rights advocate José Miguel Vivanco, a frequent target of the late Hugo Chávez, described the outcome as “a resounding victory for the commission, and a major defeat for the Venezuela-Ecuador bloc … It became evident that they were left totally isolated, without the support they were expecting from other countries.”

After 40 years, Vietnam memories are still strong
Well done newspaper article on the experiences of many and how they remember the war. –Del

It Will Not End Well: Europe’s Economic Crisis Is Now Worse Than The Great Depression While The European Union Splits In Two, And Europe Suffered Three Disasters In Just The Last Month!

The Next Real Estate Bubble: Farmland. By Blake Hurst
Excerpt: Closer to home, a neighbor planning his estate had an appraisal done in 2010 and again in late 2012. In that two-year period, the value of his farm had doubled. According to Iowa State economist Mike Duffy, Iowa land selling for $2,275 per acre a decade ago is now at $8,700 per acre. A farm recently sold in Iowa for $21,900 per acre.

Excerpt: Political correctness crosses a line when it no longer conveys stupidity but pathetic weakness to our enemies. Last Friday, the U.S. Army formally decided not to award Purple Heart medals to the victims of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, which claimed 13 lives and wounded 32 people. The Army preposterously claims that handing out medals would damage Major Nidal Hasan’s “ability to receive a fair trial.”

Higher (Cost) Education. By Burt Prelutsky
Excerpt: In the midst of all the hyperbole surrounding guns, it is worth noting that in 1999, Illinois State Senator Barack Obama voted "present" on a piece of legislation that would require adult prosecution for anyone 15 years of age or older who discharged a gun in or near a school. The bill, which was proposed in response to the murders at Columbine High School, was enacted by a vote of 52-1. Even the Chicago Tribune pilloried Obama and four of his colleagues who joined him in voting "present," calling them "gutless sheep." (Obama was consistent. He wants more laws to build political support, but less enforcement, as that falls heaviest on Democrat base groups. ~Bob.)

Obama Proclaims April the Month to Teach Young People ‘How to Budget Responsibly’
This has to be an April Fools joke, doesn't it? - LLW

Excerpt: Be careful Google, your bias to the extreme left is showing. In case you missed it, this last Sunday, on the Holiest day in the Christian calendar, the leftists at Google decided to honor the Socialist leader César Chávez. Instead of honoring the Easter holiday, in the banner atop their search engine page, Google decided to pay homage at the liberal altar, using Chávez as the day’s savior.

Most Easter church services dwell on three words: “He is risen!” At the church that President Obama chose to attend on Easter, the three words were a bit different: “You’re a racist!” Obama attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in DC, and according to the pool reporter, Rev. Luis Leon launched into at least one racist tirade. (This was the dude that replaced the other minister at the last minute for the inaugural. Looks like he needs to reread The Bible and what Easter is truly about. Fill those children’s ears full of that hate. They have to be carefully taught. Wasn’t there a song about that? –Barb.)

Federal agents raid Universal Health Care headquarters in St. Petersburg
Excerpt: Federal agents on Thursday raided the headquarters of Universal Health Care, the once high-flying Medicare insurer plagued in recent months by allegations of fraud and embezzlement. "They started yelling, 'Everybody away from your computer. We have a search warrant,' " said Michelle Yancey, one of hundreds of employees ordered to leave Universal's downtown headquarters shortly after 8 a.m. (Wonder how many porn files they’ll find, that the employees didn’t have time to delete? ~Bob.)

Excerpt: They were Britain’s ‘secret army’, courageous volunteers prepared to sacrifice their lives to fight against a Nazi invasion of the UK. Issued with top-secret orders, their role has remained unsung for decades. But now the undercover resistance units Churchill planned to activate in the event of a German invasion during the Second World War are at last to be honoured.
