I know a number of people who say that after all, there's always a Left and a Right, and you need that in a society to keep things dynamic, and from the interaction comes progress for all. That's a nice thought, but it depends on there being some kind of reasonable balance between the two sides, and I don't think that's exactly the case anymore here.
Nowadays anyone clearly on the Right usually gets hit with the
accusation/assumption that they are Far Right, which is a nice ploy the Left uses to discredit anyone who doesn't agree wit them.
But there are perhaps five degrees of being on the Right (as there are on the Left), level 5 being White Supremacists, Nazis, and a few other way out there factions. It seems to me that the bulk of people on the Right are in levels 1-3, with only a small fraction in 4 and a really tiny and largely powerless and discredited fraction in 5. In contrast, the bulk of people now on the Left are in levels 2-4, with only a small group in level 1 (these are people who are classic Liberals of the JFK school, who don't like Trump much but aren't into the vicious total hatred), while level 5 are the flat out communists and "true socialist" type, who get a lot more publicity and have more influence than that small a group should
have. Basically, the Far Left has a lot more power over their side than the Far Right does on its side.
It's easy to see in that people on the Far Left really want to grow
government a lot, believe in PC to an extreme, believe in suppression of any who don't go along with them, believe that free speech is limited by whatever they say is "hate speech", and are happy to harass, intimidate, and even destroy the lives of those they consider enemies. Nobody on the Right really wants to cut government back by half, wipe out the EPA, OSHA, etc, repeal Antitrust and let loose rapacious uncontrolled capitalism, banish unions, or is shouting down speakers they don't like
Today's extreme Left is basically anti-American in the real sense of at least disdaining if not despising our country's history and present structure, and being totally serious about overhauling the society into a very different form. It's all with good intentions, of course, but Marxism is based on good intentions, and history has shown with crystal clarity how that has never worked out well for any society. Controlled capitalism, rule of law, and representative government are what work to bring the most good to the most people, even though there are always flaws, mistakes, abuses to be found with it.
All of which is why despite all the things and people on the Right that I and others don't especially like, until the Left reforms and moderates back towards the center, we are stuck with supporting the Right in elections. We can only hope and pray that some kind of healing and re-balancing will take place in our nation in the future.
Just my thoughts.... naturally, everyone is perfectly free to see things differently. It is still, thank heaven, a Free Country. --Del
