Winter cold heaps misery on Iraq, Kurdistan Region’s neglected IDPs
Excerpt: ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Yezidi residents of camps for the displaced are bearing the brunt of an exceptionally cold winter spell hitting parts of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Snowfall has blanketed parts of the country as far south as Baghdad in the last week. Those in temporary shelters across the country are exceptionally vulnerable to the adverse weather conditions. (nearly all Iraq’s Yazidis (360,000 out of 400,000) remain in tent camps six years after ISIS forced them from their homes, and three years after their villages were liberated. It’s a miserable sight. --Mindy Belz, Globe Trot)
