The Campaign and other Important Political News and Opinion

Speaking Again
I reprised my talk on Islam and Sharia Law Thursday for the Republican Women of Dane County. Closed admission, so no armed member of The Religion of Peace showed up to punish my thought crimes. It was well-received; they finally had to cut the questions and discussion off. And an attendee has invited me to do it for another group. Now if I could only find a way to develop a cash flow from saving the world. ~Bob

Book Recommendation: Shariah in America by Jay Alan SekulowRobert Weston AshCeCe HeilMarshall H. Goldman
By the kind of good fortune that only comes to those of us who have led a blameless life, I came across a copy of this book in a local charity shop two days before I was to speak (for the second time) on "Islam and Shari'a Law." I finished it the morning of my presentation. It's a terrific book. I have read a great deal on the subject of Islam, its history, law, and doctrines. this volume greatly expanded my knowledge. (It had been sent complimentary to one of our far left Madison, WI legislators, who apparently put it on the shelf unopened--the letter to him was still inside. Perhaps he gave up on becoming literate?) It greatly expanded my understanding of these complex issues, and I was able to include several points from it in my speaking notes. They finally had to stop the Q and A session, and an attendee invited me to address another group in the near future. I hope you can get a copy from your library or pick up one of the used ones on Amazon.

The Un-Democratic Party: The loser is a winner! How Hillary left New Hampshire with the same number of delegates as Bernie despite her crushing primary election defeat

Worth Reading: Hillary's Superdelegate Coup Just Confirms to Millennials: The System Is Rigged. By Russ Belville, Huffington Post
Excerpt: But I wonder what kind of surprise awaits the Millennial voter the more he or she sees the results of their hard work canvassing for voters to Feel the Bern.
First, in Iowa, they battle for a statistical tie, with just a quarter-percent of the vote between Hillary and Bernie. So, naturally, the delegates from Iowa are divided fairly. Bernie gets 21 delegates and Hillary gets... 29? Next, in New Hampshire, Bernie demolishes Hillary in a 22-point landslide victory. So, naturally, the delegates from New Hampshire are divided fairly. Bernie gets 15 delegates and Hillary gets... 15? What is this strange world where a Bernie tie is an 8-delegate loss and a Bernie landslide is a tie?

Democracy in Action: How Hillary Clinton Might Actually Win In N.H., Even Though She Lost Big
Excerpt: This is what makes Clinton so powerful in the Democratic race -- even while she and Sanders battle it out among rank-and-file voters, she has a massive lead among superdelegates. Altogether, she already has 394 delegates and superdelegates to Sanders’s 44 -- a nearly ninefold lead. (It’s overstating it to say that the 2016 Democratic presidential primary is rigged. But it’s pretty reasonable to argue that the party’s establishment -- the Democratic National Committee, the elected lawmakers and movers and shakers -- have put a thumb on the scale for Hillary Clinton that will be difficult to overcome: ... Think about that -- we’ve had one tie (Iowa) and one landslide Sanders win (New Hampshire) and she’s ahead by 350 delegates. --Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt.)

Interesting: The Candidate of Wall Street Billionaires Has Rigged the Game: Despite One Tie and One Blowout Loss, Clinton Has 394 Delegates to Sanders' 42
Excerpt: Just shake your head and say, "I just don't understand how Clinton could lose in two races -- okay, she supposedly 'won' in Iowa, okay -- and have 394 delegates while Sanders only has 42. Do you understand this? I'm kinda dumb but can you explain this to me? Just doesn't seem fair. Seems like income inequality all over again, writ large."

New Hampshire. By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
A friend put it Wednesday night: “Our political system is set up as cycles of binary choices, and the two choices the ‘Live Free or Die’ state gave us last night are ‘free stuff’ or ‘strong-man authoritarianism, made up on the fly.’ These are not compatible with the principles which sustain our country.”

Excerpt: Those who believe that politics is little more than personal psychodrama played out on a grand stage might be closer than usual to the truth this election cycle. Neither Trump nor Sanders, despite their claims, is ushering in a revolution. They are ushering in a politics more petty, vulgar, and low — more animated by voters’ base inclinations — than any in recent memory. If New Hampshire is any indication, voters are not about anything so high-minded as constitutional government or national security or racial justice or even “hope and change.” They’re about me getting mine, by hook or by crook. Free college, free health care, and winning. This election is the Gollum-cry of the masses: WE WANTS IT.

Worth Reading: THERE'S A SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL...By Col Andy Weddington, USMC (Ret)
Excerpt:  ...for women who are criminals, abettors, and stupid. Last night during her New Hampshire concession remarks Hillary Clinton said, "No bank is too big to fail. No executive is too big to jail." How sweet to hear those words. How satisfying. For the Clinton money-laundering bank otherwise called a foundation is about to fail. Or should. And Hillary Clinton, an executive of that foundation and for crimes while serving as Secretary of State, is bound for jail. Or should be.

Indeed: The Most Honest Man In The 2016 Election Campaign
Excerpt: I don't agree a single one of his policy proposals.  In fact, if even one of them was implemented I can see a culmination of our economic collapse.  And yet, he is the only candidate that admits openly what he would try to do if elected.  He is specific, crunches the numbers, and provides them for anyone to review. It's that Bernie Sanders dude!  The 74 year old avowed Socialist who insists he will provide free college for every American, free healthcare for every American, allow citizenship for the 30 million illegal Mexican invaders, and will double down on Social Security and Medicare...both programs already on the critical list.

Demands her black privilege: Black Princeton Professor Goes Off On Social Media Following Her Arrest. By Richy Rosario
Excerpt: Princeton Professor Imani Perry is protesting against an arrest during a traffic stop last Saturday (Feb 6). Dr. Perry says she was discriminated against my two white police officers because of her race; she ended up handcuffed to a table at the local police station. The professor of African-American studies was allegedly driving at 67 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, at around 9:30 am. So when the two officers—a man, and a woman—stopped her, they found that her driving privileges were suspended, and a warrant was issued for her arrest for two unpaid ticket violations stemming from 2013. “The warrant commands the officer to take the person into custody,” Captain Sutter of the Princeton Police Department said, according to The New York Times. (People like her create racism, making life tough for the majority of decent blacks. ~Bob. This is what has become so sad about our society after the past seven years of continuous growth of racial tension and sensitivity.  Every time White police stop any minority, Blacks especially, it MUST be racism in action.  And I do not doubt for a second that the individuals involved believe this, they have heard all the stories of the many times in the past about the Driving While Black stops that were, sadly, a real event in many places for far too long.  But that there are in fact times when cops are simply doing exactly what the rules say they should do and the skin color of the driver has not entered into it at all is just not something they can grasp. This woman was well over the speed limit, and there was a warrant out for her, which the cops didn't know until after they had stopped her for the speeding violation.  A male cop checked her pockets after the arrest, as is policy, but did not perform any kind of intimate examination, but she still sees that as discrimination.  And that somehow the cops were demanding "behavioral perfection" from Blacks alone. Sorry, 22 mph over the limit, two longstanding tickets, an existing warrant, all those facts required the officers to proceed exactly as they did.  This lady will never see that, she is determined to believe that police discrimination against Blacks exists still as a standard practice and is the only reason for her experience.  That is a tragedy, but there is no answer to deeply held emotional biases about how bad racism remains in this nation.  (No, of course it's not perfect, never will be, but denying the progress of the last 50 years and seeing racism everywhere, all the time, is just not benefitting any of us.) --Del)

Truth: PBS NEWS HOUR DEMOCRAT DEBATE - ANALYSIS. By Col Andy Weddington, USMC (Ret)

The struggle for the soul of a Catholic university.
There's been a fight at Notre Dame, with a group of older alumni fiercely protesting the steady drift of the school away from the bastion of Catholicism that it once was.  They issue bulletins about the struggle, and below is a link to the latest.  It's a well done piece. Many if not most Catholic colleges have changed greatly in the last 50 years.  There aren't remotely enough religious to do the teaching any more, and in the name of diversity a steadily larger fraction of the faculty has been made up of non-Catholics, some of whom are not only not Catholic but nonreligious and even strongly secular.  Among the Catholic professorship there is a real minority of what might be called conservative Catholics.  We even see great schools like Georgetown removing all crucifixes from classrooms for fear of offending non-Catholic students.  (Why would someone voluntarily enroll in a Catholic college if they are going to be offended by the obvious signs of Catholicism?) The struggle at Notre Dame is just one of many in the Catholic schools.  Personally I believe that Catholics should no more be afraid to display Catholic symbols and teach aspects of the Faith than Black colleges fear to teach Black History and courses relating to Black American culture and history.  If one is ashamed of one's identity, then that is indeed a terrible, shameful problem. --Del

Interesting: Hillary Clinton just lost women to Bernie Sanders. But don’t blame Madeleine Albright and Gloria Steinem. By Janell Ross
Excerpt: Perhaps the Clinton campaign's internal polling had, by this weekend, made it clear just how poorly Hillary Clinton was doing among New Hampshire women. Maybe that triggered some kind of distress signal broadcast to Clinton's high-profile female supporters and surrogates. Maybe that helped set in motion the entire Madeleine Albright-Gloria Steinem-Hillary Clinton fiasco this week. But now, with the New Hampshire primary done, Clinton's rather dire situation with women — particularly young white women in that state — is pretty clear for all to see.

Excerpt: The U.S. economy grew at an anemic rate of less than 1 percent in the last quarter of 2015. While the unemployment rate has dipped below 5 percent, the all-important labor-force participation rate is at a historic low of just 62.7 percent. More than 90 million able-bodied adults are either not currently in the labor force or have stopped looking for work altogether. Average household incomes have been mostly stagnant in recent years relative to the rate of inflation. The Dow Jones industrial average fell by 2.2 percent in 2015 and has continued to plummet this year. Most people’s retirement portfolios have been losing money. Such economic sluggishness, more than seven years after the 2008 financial crisis, was not supposed to happen, given all the traditional economic stimuli.

Sleep well, America: The Chinese Plans to Nuke America. By Lyle J. Goldstein
Excerpt: When one reads enough Chinese naval literature, diagrams of multi-axial cruise missile saturation attacks against aircraft carrier groups may begin to seem normal. However, one particular graphic from the October 2015 issue (p. 32) of the naval journal Naval & Merchant Ships [舰船知识] stands out as both unusual and singularly disturbing. It purports to map the impact of a Chinese intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) strike by twenty nuclear-armed rockets against the United States. Targets include the biggest cities on the East and West Coasts, as well as in the Midwest, as one would expect. Giant radiation plumes cover much of the country and the estimate in the caption holds that the strike “would yield perhaps 50 million people killed” [可能造成5000 万死亡]. The map below that graphic on the same page illustrates the optimal aim point for a hit on New York City with a “blast wave” [风量] that vaporizes all of Manhattan and well beyond. (They will be emboldened, not deterred by bowing, apologies or hashtags. ~Bob)

Bernie Sanders just made a very big promise on immigration. By Greg Sargent
Excerpt: “Somebody who is very fond of the president, agrees with him most of the time, I disagree with his recent deportation policies. And I would not support those. Bottom line is a path towards citizenship for 11 million undocumented people, if Congress doesn’t do the right thing, we use the executive orders of the president.”

Worth Reading: The Rise Of Crony Capitalism. By Jonathan Macey
Excerpt: Economists have long documented that government corruption is higher in poor countries than in rich countries. The ten least corrupt countries have, on average, a GDP per capita of around $40,000. They include Singapore, Denmark New Zealand, and Switzerland. Meanwhile, the GDP per capita in the ten most corrupt countries—including Sudan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—hovers at around $5,000. Among the 177 countries evaluated for corruption, the United States is currently number 19 on the list prepared by the NGO Transparency International.
The primary form of corruption in these nations is crony capitalism. In poor countries, businesses cannot be started or maintained without the existence of a close relationship between entrepreneurs and government officials. There is often favoritism in the granting of building and other sorts of permits, government grants, special tax breaks, and other activities of the regulatory state. ... A strong, independent judiciary is thought by scholars to be an antidote to both wholesale and retail crony capitalism. Evidence of this is somewhat mixed. The U.S. boasts a legitimately strong and independent judiciary, but crony capitalism certainly exists in this country, and appears to be on the rise. Subsidies to the sugar industry are an example. According to the Committee for Economic Development, a nonpartisan group of corporate executives, the federal sugar subsidy program costs U.S. consumers almost $4 billion per year. A Heritage Foundation study found that although sugar crops comprise a small percentage of the total value of U.S. crops, the sugar industry accounted disproportionately for one-third of all U.S. crop lobbying from 2002 to 2011. The Wall Street Journal reports that PACs affiliated with sugar companies have made more campaign donations than did lobbyists for all other U.S. crop interests combined in recent years.

Does government union chief’s threat show AFGE’s hand on veterans care?
Excerpt: ““I’m prepared to work with Bob McDonald. But I am also prepared to whoop Bob McDonald’s ass,” Cox said, according to the publication, which obtained a recording of the speech. ... It seems Cox just wants to make sure he’s looking out for his own. “He’s going to start treating us as the labor partner … or we will whoop his ass, I promise you,” the union chief said of McDonald. (I remain a fan of the Madison VA, which saved my life with a lung transplant two years ago. But I think the VA union, like all unions, protects the salaries and perks of the union bosses by protecting mediocre and poor performers. ~Bob

Five years later, Act 10 saves taxpayers $5 billion, study finds . By M.D. Kittle
Excerpt: Five years ago, Gov. Scott Walker introduced a bill promising to reform public-sector collective bargaining in Wisconsin. The legislation would help fix the state’s massive budget shortfall while shifting the balance of power in public employee contract negotiations back to taxpayers, the Republican governor and the GOP-controlled Legislature pledged. Within days, all hell would break loose at the state Capitol.

Janet Yellen Stumped By Simple Questions About Agency She Oversees
Excerpt: The CFPB was birthed in 2010 by President Barack Obama and Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren to regulate an array of financial service companies, most already overseen by other federal agencies. Obama and Warren purposely put the bureau under the Federal Reserve Board to exempt it from congressional budget and management oversight. Yellen looked befuddled when Republican Rep. Andy Barr, who sits on the committee, confronted her with a series of simple questions about the CFPB. (If you're looking for a reason that the stock market tanked over 400 points yesterday (but did gain back some loss), the lack of intelligence by those in the drivers' seats does not lead to confidence.... Barb)

Locals fume as EPA reveals Gold King mine spill much worse than initially stated
Excerpt: “When government actions result in harm, it’s our duty to know who was responsible and why decisions failed.... “The EPA is saying one thing and their own experts say another,” Flynn told FoxNews.com. “Once the color returned to normal [in the rivers], there were those in the EPA that were hoping that this would be swept under the rug.” (Hey, how many black folks are hurt?  It's just Native Americans and desert folk, some Hispanics...Barb)

Socialism always ends in disaster: Prepare for the worst: Venezuela is heading toward complete disaster
Comment from Shred11: Maduro is a true believer in the over educated but no practical experience Karl Marx (style). True believers always do this:  1. Print LOTS of money in order to "help the people." 2. When prices rise, as a symptomatic increase in the monetary supply, they input price controls. 3. Everything sells out. 4. Gov't arrests store owners 5. Public a black market in response to economic insanity 6. People eventually rise up and kill off the gov't.  7. Normalcy returns, people get paid, middle class send their kids to left wing universities where they get brainwashed. 8. They take over gov't positions. 9. Worth Reading: Sanders and Trump: Magic sells. By Charles Krauthammer
Excerpt: Yes, you hear constant denunciations of institutions, parties, leaders, donors, lobbyists, influence peddlers. But the starting point of the bipartisan critique is the social, economic and geopolitical wreckage all around us. Bernie Sanders is careful never to blame President Obama directly, but his description of the America Obama leaves behind is devastating — a wasteland of stagnant wages, rising inequality, a sinking middle class, young people crushed by debt, the American Dream dying. Take away the Brooklyn accent and the Larry David mannerisms and you would have thought you were listening to a Republican candidate. After all, who’s been in charge for the last seven years?

From the Left: Liberal intolerance is on the rise on America’s college campuses. By Catherine Rampell
Excerpt: Okay, maybe conservatives are right to freak out about illiberal lefty militancy on college campuses. Today’s students are indeed both more left wing and more openly hostile to free speech than earlier generations of collegians. Don’t believe me? There are hard data to prove it. ... One last freshman survey finding of interest: The highest share of students since 1973 now consider themselves left of center. And the highest share of college freshmen ever (or at least since this question was first asked in 1970) call themselves “far left.”

Tennessee Becomes 5th State to Pass Resolution Calling For Article V Convention
A constitutional convention is how things really get changed for the nation, it's were the election laws can be changed to dial back the dependence on enormous amounts of money, where campaigning can be made reasonably limited, where the idea of automatic citizenship for babies born here can be debated and possibly refined, where term limits can be debated and maybe instituted, and all kinds of other things that might correct some problems and give us a better system to work with.  We could hope. --Del. Suppose liberals win control of the convention. Anyway, amendments still have to be approved by 75% of the states; red states and blue states unlikely to approve amendments favoring the other point of view. ~Bob

After Hiring 1,000 New DMV Bureaucrats, California Issues 605,000 Licenses To Illegals
The worst part of this is that just having the Driver's License in CA means you get to vote, no questions asked.  And you get to apply for even more taxpayer funded benefits.  Having people who are not citizens, many of whom do not speak English, and apparently many of whom are not literate in any language, is a really, really bad idea for the society.  Well, of course it's a great idea if you are a Democrat and you expect (very reasonably) that the bulk of these people will now automatically vote your way forever.  It's a great way to impose your ideas and policies on everyone in the state no matter that there's a big bunch of people who have very legitimate objections and who are paying a lot of the taxes that support the whole system.  You can effectively make anyone conservative or independent a minority with no voice anymore.  Not exactly the kind of government the Founders wanted to create, or one that's really "diverse" and balanced.  I feel sorry for a lot of the people in CA who don't believe in or want this kind of government. --Del

The dangers of celebrating single motherhood. By Naomi Schaefer Riley
Excerpt: Whether it’s good for the kids, though, is another story entirely. According to research done by Pew’s Economic Mobility Project, 54 percent of young adults today who grew up in an intact, two-parent home in the top third of household income have remained in that bracket, compared with just 37 percent of today’s young adults who grew up in a top-third divorced family. So while our culture often celebrates the single life as empowering, this empowerment rarely trickles down to children.

Get ready for ‘Hip-Hop Hillary.’ By Ed Rogers
Excerpt: We endured “Chipotle Hillary,” but she looked like she had indigestion, and let’s face it, Chipotle hasn’t been the same since.  We saw “I’ll fight for the middle class Hillary,” but that didn’t square with her Manhattan/Hamptons lifestyle and the millions she received on the speakers’ circuit. Then emerged “Lioness feminist Hillary,” but the unappealing finger-wagging and condescending put-downs from her pridemates Madeleine Albright and Gloria Steinem ended that. So now, get ready for “Hip-Hop Hillary” as she tries to shamelessly pander for black votes. The thought of it makes my toes curl.

Worth Reading: The power of magical thinking. By William Falk, The Week Magazine
Excerpt: Trump promises to rid America of millions of illegal immigrants, destroy ISIS, bring back millions of jobs from China, and restore the lost status of the white working class. Sanders vows to transform America into a socialist paradise like Scandinavia, where everyone will get free health care and college educations and gladly pay trillions more in taxes. Ask either candidate how he'll get his radical proposals through Congress, and overcome the opposition of at least 60 percent of the country, and you get the same true-believer response. This is a revolution! Details to come later. (I subscribe to The Week, because it comes across as balanced reporting of news an opinion, not pushing a right or left agenda.. ~Bob)

Long-term marijuana use tied to worse verbal memory in middle age
Excerpt: As marijuana becomes more accessible to young and old alike in the U.S., researchers warn that long-term use of the drug may cause lasting harm to at least one type of brain function. A new study based on following thousands of young adults into middle age finds that long-term marijuana use is linked to poorer performance on verbal memory tests, but other areas of brain function do not appear to be affected.

Drip, drip: Latest batch of Clinton emails released
Excerpt: State Department releases 551 documents from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email account, including 84 that are considered to be classified today, but not at the time they were initially sent. (You can't hold Hillary responsible for these. No one thinks she, as Secretary of State, was bright enough to recognize sensitive information and not send it over an insecure server. ~Bob)

Note from a liberal friend and my response
I agree that, if the Donald Trump of pre-2009 or so is the real Donald, he could make a great president. Unfortunately, even he might feel he has to govern from the extreme right after being elected as a Republican right wing nut. I used to think Trump's nomination would in November give us happy memories of 1964, but now I'm not so sure. A client of mine is a union construction worker who is currently building a new deck on the back of our house. He told me his union has endorsed Hillary and the rank and file have to spend several hours per week working in Democrat campaigns of union endorsees but he and his union buddies hate Hillary and are all for Trump. The Donald may well be the Republican candidate who could get the most Independent and Democratic votes in November, not the least. --PM (A liberal colleague and friend from the MA Legislature.) The problem is, there is no real Donald Trump. He says whatever comes into his mind. You could not trust the liberal Trump anymore than I trust today's pretend conservative one. He is for whatever gives him a fiscal advantage or gratifies his ego at the moment. No core values. ~Bob

Obama’s Former Defense Intelligence Chief says Hillary Should End Her Presidential Bid!
Excerpt: Alright, so Hillary Clinton’s email scandal was already a very serious matter. In fact, it has been since the news on the matter first began leaking out and every liberal with a voice was saying that it was no big deal. However, we’ve long since passed the point of no return on this being a “real” problem (as opposed to all those “fake scandals” of Obama’s), and we have now reached the stage in our little drama where even President Obama’s own people are saying Hillary Clinton is finished.

Obama dines with Hollywood donors
Excerpt: President Obama on Thursday night dined with three Hollywood VIPs and political donors — Jeffrey Katzenberg, Alan Horn and Will Smith — after a set of fundraisers in Los Angeles, according to Deadline Hollywood.   The publication reported the DreamWorks Animation CEO, the Walt Disney Studios chairman and the Academy Award-nominated actor all ate with the president as his hotel. The dinner reportedly took place after a $10,000-per-person fundraiser at the home of Leah and Sam Fisher. (Pushing the propaganda wheels to keep the TRANSFORMATION going full steam ahead.  Be aware of their products....Barb)

Excerpt: The list could go on for thousands of regulations, and while Obama’s executive agencies are intent on pushing through the president’s priorities without congressional interference, industry lawsuits and congressional hearings will surely slow the Obama regulation freight train. “The regulatory state has grown under this administration seemingly without regard to the costs, practicality, or even legality, of rules pushed through by federal agencies," Chamber of Commerce President Thomas J. Donohue complained in an email. "The president’s hurry-up approach of executive orders and rushed rulemakings is no way to govern a representative democracy."

Obama’s Proposed Budget Halts Reimbursement for Illegal Aliens in State and County Jails
Excerpt: President Obama’s proposed budget for 2017 halts reimbursement to state and county jails for housing, feeding, and providing the medical and mental health needs of criminal illegal aliens. The White House is moving to eliminate the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAPP), as reported by The Washington Post. While it would save the U.S. Department of Justice a reported $210 million, any costs of housing these illegal immigrants would be passed on to local and county taxpayers.

Harry Reid Says Alan Grayson Has ‘No Moral Compass,’ Tells Him To Drop Out Of Senate Race
Excerpt: Sen. Harry Reid announced Friday that he is calling on Rep. Alan Grayson to drop out of the race for the Senate seat in Florida vacated by Marco Rubio. In a statement Reid said that while Grayson claims to be a progressive, he has “no moral compass,” the Associated Press reports. It was reported Thursday that while serving in Congress, Grayson has been running a hedge fund based in the Cayman Islands which promised to “capitalize on markets in turmoil due to economic, political or natural disasters.” (The pot calling the kettle black....no racism intended. --Barb)

Getting money out of politics: Super PAC moves to ramp up financial firepower for Clinton
Excerpt: Two powerful organizations within the Democratic establishment announced steps Friday that have the potential to provide substantial financial firepower to presidential contender Hillary Clinton by drawing on the support of wealthy donors and corporate interests. While providing a likely boost to Clinton, both developments also give rival Bernie Sanders fresh fodder to highlight her relationship with Wall Street and other special interests at a time when the two candidates are locked in an intense nomination fight.

Worth Reading: There will be blood in South Carolina. By Kathleen Parker
Excerpt: Out on the hustings, people often ask me: “Can you explain South Carolina?” I just shake my head. It’s complicated, I say. The simple answer, eternal and everlasting, is anti-secessionist James Petigru’s remark: “South Carolina is too small for a republic and too large for an insane asylum.”

Interesting: Progressives’ anti-free speech itch. By George F. Will
Excerpt: Bernie Sanders, greedy for power to punish people he considers greedy, has occasioned 2016’s best joke (reported in Bloomberg Businessweek): “In the Bernie Sanders drinking game, every time he mentions a free government program, you drink someone else’s beer.” But neither Sanders’s nor Hillary Clinton’s hostility to the First Amendment is amusing. Both have voted to do something never done before — make the Bill of Rights less protective. They favor amending the First Amendment to permit government regulation of political campaign speech.

Yes, Trump is for single-payer: Donald Trump on healthcare: if you like your plan, you can keep it
Excerpt: There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, “No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private. But–” ... I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now. ... They’re going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably– ...the government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.

Top official overseeing nuclear deal unsure where Iran's enriched uranium is stored
Excerpt: Critics of the nuclear deal seized on the shipment's status as an example of the agreement's flaws. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., said in a statement that it's "outrageous and unbelievable" that Russia is being trusted to be the repository for such sensitive material.  Russia is a close ally of Iran, said Smith, who added that's he unaware of a requirement in the nuclear agreement that requires Russia to declare where the material will be stored and how it will be safeguarded.  The low-enriched uranium is suitable mainly for generating nuclear power and needs substantial further enrichment for use in the core of a nuclear warhead.

GOP worried about 'surge' of Syrian refugee interviews
Excerpt: Senate Republicans are raising concerns that the Obama administration is preparing to interview a "surge" of Syrian refugees, as part of the vetting process to potentially allow some to be admitted into the United States.  A handful of Senate Republicans said Friday that the Judiciary Committee has learned that the administration is sending officials to Jordan to interview thousands of candidates for the U.S. refugee resettlement program.  "The Administration’s refusal to suspend or even slow the pace of such refugee processing is particularly disturbing when reports abound of [Islamic State of Iraq and Syria] terrorists intentionally inserting themselves into the Syrian refugee stream," the senators wrote in a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Secretary of State John Kerry. (Full steam ahead to TRANSFORM the USA from a Judeo-Christian-based culture to Islamic caliphate state. --Barb)
