Important: Staffer who worked on Clinton ’s private e-mail server faces subpoena
Excerpt: A former State Department staffer who worked on Hillary Rodham Clinton’s private e-mail server tried this week to fend off a subpoena to testify before Congress, saying he would assert his constitutional right not to answer questions to avoid incriminating himself. (I look at this news and think . . . Yeah, Biden’s in. --Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt.)
FORMER STAFFER WHO MAINTAINED HILLARY CLINTON’S PRIVATE EMAIL SERVER TO PLEAD THE FIFTH
How does Hillary spin this one? “I’m sure he didn’t want to cooperate with those right-wing partisan nut-cases . . . at the . . . FBI . . . and State Department Inspector General’s office.” For what it’s worth, the guy has a really good reason to plead the Fifth. As the lowest man on the totem pole, he’s the guy most likely to get thrown under the bus. It’s easy to imagine claiming that her IT staffer assured her the server was completely secure, that he had obtained all of the proper clearances, that everything was in compliance with the law, etcetera. She’s just a sweet old grandma, she can’t be expected to know how these newfangled doohickeys work! --Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt.

Excerpt: The lurid revelations about the Clinton Foundation proved that it was not so much a charity as a huge laundering operation. Quid pro quo donations from the global rich and powerful fueled the Clintons ’ jet-setting networking. In between political campaigns, the foundation provided sinecures for out-of-work Clinton politicos. This is hardly proof of Hillary’s grass-roots progressivism.

Worth Reading : Confirmed: Republicans like Democratic ideas better when they’re Trump’s
Excerpt: Republican support for universal health care rose 28 points thanks to Trump’s seal of approval. Democratic support for universal health care dropped, however, by … 36 points. How many Dems out there are true believers in the ObamaCare dream and how many are mindlessly in favor for no better reason than that Barack Obama thinks it’s a keen idea? Note too that it’s not just a matter of the sheer number of Dems changing their position here, it’s a matter of going from heavy majority support to less than 50 percent in favor. Trump’s backing can turn an 82 percent Democratic consensus into a 46 percent plurality.
Worth Reading : The Donald and the Demagogues. By Bret Stephens
Excerpt: If by now you don’t find Donald Trump appalling, you’re appalling. If you have reached physical maturity and still chuckle at Mr. Trump’s pubescent jokes about Rosie O’Donnell or Heidi Klum, you will never reach mental maturity. If you watched Mr. Trump mock fellow candidate Lindsey Graham’s low poll numbers and didn’t cringe at the lack of class, you are incapable of class. Hugh Hewitt to Trump: Do you know who the Quds Force is?
Excerpt: No one’s going to care either way, though, right? If you dislike Trump, this is further evidence that he’s not just unqualified to be president but seems to disdain having to prepare for the job. With the Middle East melting down, let’s go ahead and elect a guy whose interest in the region is so meager than he can’t name-check the head of Al Qaeda 14 years after 9/11. If you like Trump, the interview is meaningless because (a) nobody knows who those people are! or (b) Trump is a manager, not a details guy, and he’ll find the classiest, most luxurious natsec people or (c) as a Twitter pal said, knowing who the regional players were didn’t stop Obama from bungling everything he touched there, from Mubarak’s ouster to raising a Syrian rebel army to putting Iran on a 15-year track to having a nuclear bomb. “Name That Jihadi” is just a game being used by the dreaded GOP establishment to try to make Trump look stupid so that less populist eggheads like Carly Fiorina look good by comparison. Besides, didn’t we find out just last night that policy differences hardly matter to either Republicans or Democrats? Why would we turn around, then, and disqualify a guy for being shaky on policy?

Interesting: Obama’s Uncertain Path Amid Syria Bloodshed
Excerpt: It was President Barack Obama who declared the use of chemical weapons on civilians in Syria a “red line” for action, and it was President Barack Obama who flinched when it became clear that the regime in Damascus had ignored him. Soon, images began to filter into the Western press revealing the horrors wrought by these WMDs. Rooms full of bodies; people seizing, foaming at the mouth; children contorted and writhing as they met their horrible, terrifying end.

'Who needs this?' Police recruits abandon dream amid anti-cop climate
Excerpt: Police departments face a recruiting shortage amid a growing anti-cop mood that some fear has taken the pride out of peacekeeping and put targets on the backs of the men and women in blue. Open calls for the killing of police have been followed by assassinations, including last week's murder in Texas of a Harris County sheriff's deputy. Instead of dialing back the incendiary rhetoric, groups including "Black Lives Matter" have instead doubled down at demonstrations with chants of "Pigs in a blanket, fry em like bacon." Public safety officials fear the net effect has been to demonize police, and diminish the job.

http://www.tasnimnews.com/english/Home/Single/848750
Having already gotten everything they want in the deal, without giving up anything, they have decided to push for even more. A flat demand that all sanctions be terminated, forever, one more huge demand that is way over the top. Hopefully this will cause so much flak that the deal will finally be rejected. At least I hope so, but of course our leaders can roll over, or bend over, and just take this along with everything else, and find a way to rationalize it somehow. They are disgusting. --Del
Thinking About the Unthinkable: An Israel-Iran Nuclear War. By John Bosma
This is as scary as it gets. And if I were an Israeli, this is exactly how I would be thinking. I am scared, really scared that we will see truly horrible events come down over there in the next couple of years. --Del

Huffington Post Attack on Admiral Lyons is Based on Willful Ignorance
Admiral Lyons has made some extremely factual and cogent analyses of the mess Obama has made of our foreign policy and his damaging our military. So naturally he comes under snarky attack by the Liberal media. Who say things about him and the situation that are easily proven to be false. After all, you go with Alinsky methods, you attack, you personalize, you don't give a damn about any truth other than the one you want to force on people. Thank heavens for Adm. Lyons and for the people smart enough to debunk his attackers. --Del
Little girl demonstrates the "new math" of Common Core
This a two minute video in which a little girl goes through the steps taught in the "new math" for kids to add two numbers, and then does it that terrible, outmoded, ridiculous old-fashioned way. It's really informative for anyone who hasn't seen what "new math" is like. This is the way that high level mathematicians manipulate numbers, which is fine for them and the truly amazing stuff they do that most of us with normal brains cannot really comprehend. But simple math, geometry, and algebra are the most any normal person ever needs, and forcing kids to learn the more complex manner of looking at numbers is so stupid that it boggles the mind. This is what comes from having overeducated professionals with PhDs decide how everyone else should learn. And it's one reason, among several, that parents and many teachers are very unhappy with the whole Common Core program. And they aren't Neanderthal crazies fighting progress, they're just regular intelligent people who can see when something is actually inappropriate and counterproductive when it comes to teaching their kids some things. --Del
WaPo Fact Checker: A pro-Clinton group’s claim that Bush will cut veterans benefits ‘across the board’
Excerpt: As always, the burden of proof rests with the attacker. Even if one dismisses the Bush campaign paper as propaganda, the Correct the Record group cannot plausibly claim that Bush’s proposal to expand the Choice program will lead to a cut in benefits, except by merely asserting it. Changing the headline only fixed part of the problem because the main text was not corrected. It still asserts that expanding a program that enjoys bipartisan support and paying for it with savings from VA reforms would result in “across the board” cuts in veterans benefits. Until more evidence is provided, this is worthy of Three Pinocchios.
Worth Reading : The future of land warfare . By Michael E. O’Hanlon
Excerpt: In my new book, "The Future of Land Warfare" (Brookings Institution Press, 2015), I attempt to debunk the new conventional wisdom (which began with the Obama administration but also permeates thinking beyond): Messy ground operations can be relegated to the dustbin of history. That is a paraphrase and dramatization, to be sure—but only a modest one, since the administration’s 2012 and 2014 defense plans both state that the U.S. Army will no longer size its main combat forces with large-scale counterinsurgency and stabilization missions in mind. This is, I believe, a major conceptual mistake, even if not yet one that has decimated the Army. But it will cause increasing harm with time if we buy into the idea. The active-duty Army is already below its Clinton-era size and only slightly more than half its Reagan-era size. Reductions to the Army Reserve and Army National Guard have been almost as steep. None need grow at this juncture, but the cuts should stop.
