Short Post, but Important Political News and opinion

Update

Short post today. Lovely weather here again, though the allergens produce mucus and a heavy cough. Important election tomorrow in WI, if you or friends and family live in the badger state. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Ethics complaint against Dane County sheriff to be heard after election. By M.D. Kittle
Excerpt: Dane County resident Robert Hall tells Wisconsin Watchdog he has received notice the Dane County Ethics Board will hear his complaint at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 13, the board’s next regularly scheduled meeting. The hearing arrives “nicely after the election so they can go on violating the ethics law,” Hall said. (They will use the illegal ad right through the election, but I'll bet it is scrubbed Wednesday. I assume the ethics board will tell them "don't do it again," meaning they get clean away. One law for the average guy, another for the powerful magnates. Welcome to Democracy in Dane County. ~Bob)

Rolling Stone published quite the blockbuster story last November about an awful gang rape at a University of Virginia frat house. The only trouble was the story was false. Police investigated and found no evidence to support the story. Now even the iconic music magazine is admitting the gig is up and formally retracting the story. Fox News reports that a "review, undertaken by the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism at Rolling Stone's request, produced a 12,000-word report that documented lapses in standard journalistic procedure at every level of the magazine during the reporting and editing of the story." But other than the retraction, it'll be business as usual -- no one will be fired or even disciplined, and no changes will be made. Writer (it's hard to call her a reporter) Sabrina Erdely will even continue contributing after apologizing. When relaying a leftist narrative, sometimes a story is just too good to check, no matter what it does to the victims -- in this case, the falsely accused young men in the fraternity.

They can only win by lying!
Excerpt: It seems like the party of “the people” can only win by lying to “the people”. Senator Harry Reid admitted this week that he lied to help Mr. Obama win. He, at this point, is the most honorable man in the Democrat party. You see he is the ONLY Democrat to really come out after being caught and basically say… yup, I did it and I got what I wanted, so sue me. He knew the information on Obama’s opponent, Mitt Romney was false. There was no “insider” at Romney’s company. But he, and the rest of the Dems, were OK with lying about it.

Excerpt: Investigators say Morales was breaking into a residence in the far southern Oklahoma town when the homeowner was awakened and told Morales to leave. Morales continued attempting to gain entry when he was shot by a person inside the home. Morales died at the scene.

Obamacare/Government Healthcare News

Reconciliation Can Solve GOP's Irreconcilable Differences With Obamacare. By Sally Pipes
Excerpt: But after five years of false promises, massive disruptions to the healthcare marketplace, enormous costs, repeated delays, and legal challenges, the law has never been more vulnerable than it is today. Congressional Republicans can use a budgetary procedure called “reconciliation” to repeal Obamacare — and replace it with a market-oriented reform package that gives patients and doctors, not government officials, control over Americans’ healthcare decisions. GOP leaders can’t afford to squander this opportunity.

Undocumented Democrat News

Most Voters Want More Aggressive Deportation Policies
Excerpt: More voters than ever feel the United States is not aggressive enough in deporting those who are here illegally, even as President Obama continues to push his plan to make up to five million illegal immigrants safe from deportation. Just 16% of Likely U.S. Voters think the U.S. government is too aggressive in deporting those who are in the country illegally. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 62% believe the government is not aggressive enough in deporting these illegal immigrants, up from 52% a year ago and 56%in November. (unfortunately, the miss-named "democratic" party doesn't care what most voters want, on this and many other issues. ~Bob)

"You're Greener than Gore" News

Obama Blames Poor Economy on ‘Insufficient Global Warming’
Excerpt: Conservative icon George Will hit the Obama administration with not one, but two, haymakers during his time on Fox News Sunday discussing our languid economy. The first hit came when Will reminded viewers that this was now the second year in a row where the Obama administration was blaming a bad economy on the fact that global warming wasn’t severe enough!

Worth Reading: Misplaying America’s Hand With Iran. The president’s desperation for a foreign-policy legacy is leading toward a bad nuclear deal -- and a dangerous one. By Peggy Noonan
Excerpt: Barack Obama, six years into his presidency, does not have a foreign-policy legacy – or, rather, he does and it’s bad. He has a visceral and understandable reluctance to extend and overextend U.S. power, but where that power has been absent, violence and instability have filled the void. When he overcomes his reluctance to get involved, he picks the wrong place, such as Libya, where the tyrant we toppled was better than many of those attempting to take his place. Syria, red lines, an exploding Mideast, a Russian president who took the American’s measure and made a move, upsetting a hard-built order that had maintained for a quarter-century since the fall of the Soviet Union – what a mess. ... Once Iran has what used to be called the bomb, there will be a race among nearby nations – Persian Gulf states, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey – to get their own. As each state builds its arsenal, there will be an increased chance that freelancers, non-states and sub-states will get their hands on parts of it.

Excerpt: The commandant of the Marine Corps told lawmakers that Marines who disarmed before departing Sanaa, Yemen during an embassy evacuation last month did so on the orders of U.S. Central Command and State Department officials. Gen. Joseph Dunford fielded hard-edged questions on the mission Tuesday morning from Rep. John Kline, R-Minn., during a hearing before the House Armed Services Committee. Kline, a retired Marine officer, is the author of a letter to the State and Defense departments demanding detailed answers about a controversial order to Marines to destroy their weapons and depart the country unarmed. (Every since that awful incident was on the news, I've wondered who the hell told Marines to destroy all their weapons, while in a foreign country with all kinds of crazies running around with all kinds of weapons and no love of Americans. And it was the guys in the neat suits and the striped pants plus some political generals at Central Command that made this utterly disgraceful and needlessly humiliating decision. Everyone who was part of that should be named, and those names should go down in disgrace for the rest of their lives, and no one, NO ONE, should ever tell Marines to destroy their weapons in the face of possible danger ever again. This was sickening! --Del)

Excerpt: “Iran Agrees to Detailed Nuclear Outline,” The New York Times headline claimed on Friday. That found an echo in the Washington Post headline of the same day: “Iran agrees to nuclear restrictions in framework deal with world powers." But the first thing to know about the highly hyped “historic achievement” that President Obama is trying to sell is that there has been no agreement on any of the fundamental issues that led to international concern about Iran’s secret nuclear activities and led to six mandatory resolutions by the United Nations Security Council and 13 years of diplomatic seesaw.

Kenya bombs Somalia al-Shabab bases after Garissa attack
Excerpt: Kenyan fighter jets have bombed positions of militant Islamist group al-Shabab in neighbouring Somalia, a military spokesman has told the BBC. The warplanes had targeted two camps in the Gedo region, used by al-Shabab to cross into Kenya, the spokesman added.

Worth Reading: Sweden: Rape Capital of the West
Excerpt: Forty years after the Swedish parliament unanimously decided to change the formerly homogenous Sweden into a multicultural country, violent crime has increased by 300% and rapes by 1,472%. Sweden is now number two on the list of rape countries, surpassed only by Lesotho in Southern Africa. ... If one looks at the number of rapes, however, the increase is even worse. In 1975, 421 rapes were reported to the police; in 2014, it was 6,620. That is an increase of 1,472%.

Voters Even More Negative About Arab Spring’s Impact
Excerpt: As the violence in Yemen escalates, American voters continue to be skeptical about the political changes in the region brought about by the so-called “Arab Spring” and worry they have made the United States less safe. (Unfortunately, these are the same voters who re-elected Barack Obama who thought the Arab Spring was wonderful, took us to war in Libya--now a terrorist hell hole--to support it--without Congressional authorization. ~Bob)

Norway town produces many jihadis, authorities baffled. By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.Org
Excerpt: No one, of course, has bothered to check what is being taught in the local mosque. That just might provide a clue.

Excerpt: A tense calm has returned to a village in northern Bangladesh after an angry mob attacked a Christian couple because they were baptised, while a Christian who carried out the baptism was beaten and lost his job, BosNewsLife learned. Details of the February 2 violence in Gobindagonj in Gaibandha district has just emerged with police warning local residents to halt the violence. "Such courageous displays of support for minority Christians are unusual from Bangladeshi authorities," commented Barnabas Fund, an advocacy group supporting Christians in Islamic countries.

  1. I rather hope the lawsuit puts Rolling Stone out of business. It would be useful to remind "journalists" that their calling involves facts, not activism.
