Book Recommendation: George Washington's Secret Six: The Spy Ring
That Saved the American Revolution by Brian Kilmeade and, Don Yaeger
This is a short, well written and well researched history of
a fascinating but little known piece of the Revolution. I have been a
Revolutionary War buff since early teens and had never heard of the Culper
Ring. The book is easy to read and will hold your interest. It also has details
about Nathan hale and about Arnold 's
treachery.
Took my new eyes to the shooting range today. Did fine,
despite the tremble from the drugs--you wouldn't have wanted to be standing 15
feet in front of me and threatening... ~Bob
General News and Comment
Excerpt: China ’s
state media indulged in a bit of gloating Wednesday, as Europe’s most powerful
nations announced they planned to join a Chinese-led Asian regional bank,
ignoring objections from the United
States . In a commentary piece titled “Washington, what are you waiting for?” state news agency
Xinhua described the United
States as “petulant and cynical” for
declining to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). It said the
bank was open to all nations but said Washington ’s
“sour grapes” left it looking “isolated and hypocritical.”
Excerpt: A new report from
the Census Bureau showed a total of 108,592,000 people were on some sort of
means-tested government benefits program in the fourth quarter of 2011, yet
only 101,716,000 people were employed full-time for the entire year.

Is the Chicago Machine About to
Run Out of Gas?
Excerpt: That’s where things stand now following Chicago
Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) failure to win an absolute majority in the last
Tuesday’s mayoral election with just 45% of the vote. The runoff election
between Emanuel and runner up Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia (D)
who received 34 percent of the vote is scheduled for April 7. (They can
vote for Emanuel ad make Chicago the new Detroit slowly, or Garcia and make it Detroit very rapidly. ~Bob)
54% Think Democrats
Should Run A Fresh Face in 2016
Excerpt: A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey
finds that 54% of Likely U.S. Voters believe Democrats should look for a fresh
face to run for president in 2016 rather than promote a candidate who has
already run in the past. Only 22% think Democrats should go with a candidate
from the past. Just as many (23%) are not sure. (To see survey question
wording, click here.) ... What is surprising, though,
is that 57% of Democrats won’t commit to someone from the past, with 36% who
think their party needs a fresh face and a sizable 21% who are undecided.

The family for whom she was to work took her passport and separated her from
her cousin, with whom she had come to the U.S. The cousin was sent to work in
another home. Ima Matul was, needless to say, never paid — the family said
they were simply keeping the money safe for her until she returned home. She
worked 18 hours a day or more. She was cut off from all communication, beaten,
and abused. She was told that if she were to try to run away, she’d be arrested
as an illegal immigrant and taken to prison, where she would be held
indefinitely with no passport or other identification, and where she would
certainly be raped.
$21 Billion: Guess How Much
the Clintons
Have Raised Since 1992. And here's how they spent it. By Molly Redden
Excerpt: In the cover story of the current New Republic ,
Alec MacGillis reports on the role of Doug Band, Bill Clinton’s “body man,” in
the 42nd president's post-White House life. The story of an aide’s business
dealings inevitably gets into a thorny subject for any politician: money. The Clintons , as it happens,
have raised scads of it. Here’s a breakdown.1
As ratings plunge, MSNBC faces shakeup. Insiders say to
expect more news, less bombast, and fresh voices. By Dylan Byers
Excerpt: Year-to-date, MSNBC’s daytime viewership is down 21
percent overall and 41 percent in the coveted 25-to-54-year-old demographic,
putting it in fourth place behind Fox News, CNN and CNN’s sister network HLN.
Its prime-time ratings are down 24 percent and 42 percent, respectively. In
both daytime and prime time, MSNBC is bringing in its smallest share of the
demo since 2005, the year before Keith Olbermann’s scorched-earth admonitions
of the Bush administration ushered in the current era of Rachel Maddow, Ed
Schultz and Al Sharpton.
How Americans Rate
News Networks. By Matt Towery
Excerpt: On the national level, liberals were aghast to find
that Fox News ranks No. 1 as the most trusted source of news among the various
national networks. Of course, pundits were picking apart the crosstabs of the
poll, trying to prove how the support for Fox came from Republicans and older
viewers. But the fact is that Fox held very respectable numbers among
independent and younger voters as well. And no, the poll was not unfairly
weighted toward GOP-leaning viewers.
A bastion of free inquiry: Student Barred From Class
For Disputing Rape Statistics
Excerpt: A student at Reed
College has been banned from class for
denying the existence of “rape culture” in the United States and arguing that the
oft-repeated statistic that one in five women are raped at college is bogus. Jeremiah
True, 19, received an email from professor Pancho Savery on March 14 telling
him he was making his classmates so uncomfortable that he was no longer welcome
to participate in the “conference” sections of his Humanities 110 class, a
course which focuses on the art and literature of classical Greece , according
to BuzzFeed News. (A college education should equip one to entertain three
things: a friend, an idea and oneself. --Thomas Ehrlich)

Odessa Mother Fires
'Warning Shot,' Prevents Home Invasion
Excerpt: She and her two-year-old daughter were home alone
when a "suspicious man" showed up at their front door around 9:30
a.m. "He wouldn't stop knocking on the front door, then he broke through
our fence to get into the backyard and started trying to get through our back
door," Barnes told NewsWest 9. "I ran to get my husband's gun [and]
fired a warning shot into the air." She said "mother's instinct"
pushed her to do whatever was necessary to protect her daughter. McDonald,
realizing she was in the house and armed with a gun, allegedly fled on foot.
Race Card News
Excerpt: On Dec. 1, 2014, four members of the Congressional
Black Caucus repeated the gesture while delivering speeches on the House Floor
titled, “Black in America: What Ferguson Says About Where We Are and Where We
Need to Go.” Each of the members held up their hands, and the image spread
widely online. Yet the Department of Justice’s March 4, 2015, investigative report on the shooting of Michael Brown
found federal investigators could not confirm witness accounts that Brown
signaled surrender before being killed execution-style. The department’s
descriptions of about 40 witness testimonies show the original claims that
Brown had his hands up were not accurate. ... The DOJ has concluded Wilson did not know
whether Brown was armed, acted out of self-defense and was justified in killing
Brown. The majority of witnesses told federal investigators that the initial
claims that Brown’s hands were up were not accurate. “Hands up, don’t shoot”
did not happen in Brown’s killing, and it is a characterization that deserves
Four Pinocchios. Politicians should step carefully if they try to
highlight this expression in the future.

Excerpt: Justice Brown is black, but not the right kind of
black. As a result, she
was “graphically pilloried as an Aunt Jemima by an Internet cartoonist,
jokingly likened to a serial killer by a Democratic U.S. senator and denounced
by so many liberal interest groups that her Senate ‘opposition’ file bulges at
nearly four pounds.” Who do you think led the opposition to Judge Brown’s
nomination? Democrat Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois was front and center, the same Dick
Durbin who opposed
Condoleezza Rice’s confirmation as Secretary of State and recently attacked
Republicans for opposing Loretta Lynch. (Racial slurs against conservative
blacks are permitted, even encouraged. it's about the liberal agenda, not equality.

Col. Allen West
Destroys Obama and Eric Holder for their Roles in the Ferguson Violence!
Excerpt: “The preeminence of the individual – their rights
and their liberties. The equality of opportunity as opposed to the collective
vision of the equality of outcomes. That is a clear separation between who we
are and who they are. They believe not in the pursuit of happiness as opposed
to a guarantee of happiness that comes from the government. The thing that our
young people need to come to understand is, their future is at risk – their
economic security and their national security. That should be something that we
should be able to convey…”
Undocumented Democrat News
Excerpt: The lesson from the last 20 years of immigration
policy is that lawlessness breeds more lawlessness. Once a people or a
government decides to normalize one form of lawbreaking, other forms of lawlessness
will follow until finally the rule of law itself is in profound jeopardy.
Today, we have a constitutional crisis on our hands. President Obama has
decided that because Congress has not granted amnesty to millions of illegal
aliens living in the U.S. ,
he will do so himself. Let us ponder for a moment just how shameless this
assertion of power is.
Article 2, Section 3, of the Constitution mandates that the
president “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” This
provision assumes that there is a law for the president to execute. But in this
case, the “problem” that Obama is purporting to fix is the absence of a law
granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. Rather than executing a law,
Obama is making one up—arrogating to himself a function that the Constitution
explicitly allocates to Congress.

Single Tear: Axelrod
Lashes Out After Decisive Netanyahu Victory
Excerpt: Whether or not the Obama administration was unethically meddling in Israel 's elections with the intent
of ousting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the White House's electoral
preferences were patently obvious. Team Obama doesn't take kindly to those who
directly challenge and bruise Obama's ego, and Bibi has crossed that line at
least twice. He famously lectured Obama during a 2011 Oval Office sit-down, in
front of the cameras, after the president made a controversial comment about Israel
returning to its indefensible 1967 borders. And he delivered a powerful speech
to Congress about the administration's dangerous nuclear pact with Iran , an
address the White House vehemently opposed through weeks of conniption fits. (I suspect that Israelis didn't like
Obama's interference and voted accordingly. ~Bob)
CNN: Netanyahu’s Win
Was Racist
Excerpt: And again, the American media cared so much —
they’ve always cared. Never like this, though. I mean, I’ve never seen the
American media as invested in an Israeli election as this one. And it’s because
this time it was personal. This one was because this is what Obama wanted. And
Obama got involved. I’m telling you, Obama is the loser here, not Herzog. Obama
is a big loser, and that’s why the media is so, so out of sorts today. This is
the kind of rejection that just wasn’t supposed to happen.
150 House Members Congratulate Bibi in Letter. Obama yet to
do the same. By Alana Goodman
Excerpt: “Please know that we are committed to maintaining a
strong relationship with Israel ,”
said the letter. “As you pointed out to us earlier this month, the United States and Israel
face common enemies in the form of militant Islamic states such as Iran
and Islamic jihadists groups such as Hezbollah and ISIS. We believe that a
strong United States-Israel relationship is vital in combating these threats.”
Excerpt: After overthrowing the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001, President George W. Bush,
seeking to prevent another domestic attack from happening, turned his attention
toward Iraq
and decided to invade in 2003, citing the missed signs and vowing to connect
the dots. Democrats, including Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, supported the
invasion, but as soon as political winds shifted, they politicized it by
blaming Bush, even going so far as to question his leadership before 9/11. Why
weapons of mass destruction were not found in mass quantities in Iraq has never
been conclusively explained, though the possibility that they were moved during
the delayed invasion is as plausible as any.
Excerpt: Most of the victims killed in the attack were
foreign tourists, which accounts for the Islamic State’s reference to the
“Crusader countries.” Twenty of the victims were visiting from Britain , France ,
Colombia , Germany , Italy ,
Japan , Poland , and Spain , according
to press accounts. Three Tunisians, in addition to the two attackers, were
also killed in the assault. Still others were wounded. (So it Libya better or
worse since Obama attacked it in his lead-from-behind war? ~Bob)
Excerpt: Ansar al Sharia in Libya ’s
branch in Benghazi
released 10 photographs today that show 14 fighters at a training camp located
in or near the city. The photographs display the uniformed fighters training
with weapons, in hand-to-hand combat, and in a classroom setting. One photo
shows what appears to be a leader of the group or a trainer. His identity was
not disclosed and his face was digitally distorted.
Excerpt: The US
killed a senior leader in the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan in a
drone strike that took place yesterday in the tribal agency of Kurram. The
strike is the first recorded in Pakistan
since the end of January. Muhammad Khurasani, a spokesman for the Movement of
the Taliban in Pakistan ,
announced the death of Khawray Mehsud and two other jihadists, Umar and Talwar,
in an email that was sent to The Long War Journal earlier today.
Important: Can the American Energy Revolution Survive
a Deal with Iran ?
By Gal Luft
Excerpt: But there is one less obvious casualty – the North
American oil and gas industry.
Undoubtedly in the event of lifting of the sanctions,
cash-starved Iran would do all in its power to quickly ramp up its oil exports
to make up for lost revenues, and the oil market could face an injection of
500,000-800,000 barrels/day of Iranian crude. At a time when U.S. crude oil
supplies are already at their highest level in more than 80 years and storage facilities
are reaching their maximum capacity, an influx of Iranian oil could easily
slice current oil prices by half. This would be a crippling blow to America 's oil
and gas industry, effectively marking the end of the North American energy
renaissance.
'At least 160
children died digging tunnels for Hamas'
Excerpt: In December 2011, the paper's author Nicolas
Pelham accompanied a police patrol in Gaza
and reported that "nothing was done to impede the use of children in the
tunnels, where, much as in Victorian coal mines, they are prized for their
nimble bodies. He continued and said that "at least 160 children have been
killed in the tunnels, according to Hamas officials."
Excerpt: The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the most
prominent Islamic clerical organization in the country, has issued a fatwa
calling for the death penalty to be imposed for the crime of having gay
sex. The edict was issued earlier this month to “remind” the public that homosexuality is a “deviant sexual
behavior” that the society should not tolerate, as it puts a “stain on the dignity of Indonesia.”
WH Confirms: UN to
Play Key Role in Iran
Deal. By Daniel Halper
Excerpt: In a Saturday night letter from President Obama's
chief of staff Denis McDonough to Senate Foreign Relations Committee chair Bob
Corker, the White House confirmed that in fact the United Nations will play a
key role in any nuclear deal that may be reached with Iran . "The
United Nations Security Council will also have a role to play in any deal with Iran ,"
McDonough writes, after urging Congress not to pass a bill related to the
nuclear negotiations. "Just as it is true that only Congress can terminate
U.S. statutory sanctions Iran , only the Security Council can terminate
the Security Council's sanctions on Iran . Because the principal
negotiators of an arrangement with Iran are the five permanent members
of the Security Council, we anticipate that the Security Council would pass a
resolution to register its support for any deal and increase its international
legitimacy.
