Update

Random Thoughts for December, 2014. By Robert A. Hall

The Old Jarhead Blog
I try to make this blog your one-stop-shop for political news and conservative opinion. Founded in October, 2008, it gets 5k to 7k page views a week, most from the US, but hundreds from many countries worldwide. Feel free to post or forward to friends who need to be better informed. The news posts are created from several news feeds, from US and international websites, from twitter when I have spare time to follow it, and by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have often have missed or skipped. We owe them thanks and appreciation. I try to include foreign sources and info you won’t get in the MSM, but I often use links to pieces in the Washington Post, New York Times, Politico, Reuters and other left-of-center sources. No one is required to read the blog, or any of the links. Trust me, no one reads everything posted, but scanning the headlines will keep you informed, and you can click on stories you want to know more about. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, too far a stretch, or viciously inflammatory, regardless of the view point. I also try to avoid items that will turn off thoughtful centrists and leftists or low-information independents, including “red meat” pieces with intemperate language or wild speculation, conspiracy theories with no supporting facts and silly distractions like the so-called “birther” issue (which I correctly predicted years ago was going nowhere, and wasted time and energy), but I don’t always succeed. I use maybe 50% of the conservative pieces sent me, probably less than 5% of the liberal opinion sent, usually to illustrate their views. Readers who don’t like that are welcome to start their own blogs. Readers who send formatted pieces (title, link, and a fair-use excerpt of no more than three sentences unless the piece is very short, than fewer) to tartanmarine(at)gmail.com have a higher chance of my using them than people who just send a link. A piece without a link has a much lower chance of being used—it depends on how interesting it is and how much time I have right then to search for it, and my time is limited right now due to managing the lung transplant I received on December 23, 2013, which has developed complications. I understand if you don’t have the time to format or even to find a link—please understand I don't either. I often include thoughtful comments from contributors. (Tell me if you want your full name used.) There are no ads on my blog, no fees and I receive no income from it. Now that I've retired, that might need to change, but for now, that’s how it is. I do promote my books, with the royalties going to charity. As always on the Net, as in the legacy media, you must read these posts critically and with skepticism. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Democrats Try To Figure Out What Went Wrong. By Garth Kant
Excerpt: Democrats surveying the wreckage of their midterm election disaster are trying to figure out what went wrong, and the question largely has been: Is it the message or the messenger? ... Tina Brown, former Newsweek Editor: “Obama’s like that guy in the corner office who’s too cool for school, calls a meeting, says this has to change, doesn’t put anything in place to make sure it does change. Then it goes wrong, and he’s blaming everybody.”

Worth Reading: Debunking the House Intelligence Report on Benghazi. By Clare Lopez
Excerpt: The media embraced the report as bipartisan vindication of what the Obama administration has argued: Namely that yes, mistakes were made, we did everything we could to protect our people, and have put into place remedies, and changes in policies, so that nothing like this happens again. But the evidence and the testimony say otherwise. (I highly recommend the link, which will take you to the report, which is extremely well done, professional and thorough. It brings up all the real facts, highlights the obvious flaws and falsehoods in how this has been handled, and leaves no question that a whole bunch of important questions remain to be answered. Which certain politicians absolutely want to never even come up again in public. I hate to sound like a conspiracy nut, but the long, messy, convoluted efforts to hide the sad truth of that situation and the night's events amount to some kind of widespread cover-up. More than disappointing, more like disgusting. --Del)

The Forgotten Americans: Obama’s coalition is held together only by his personal mythography. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Indeed, a cynic would sum up the unlikely liberal coalition as a bridge over the middle class. Wealthy, influential progressives had enough capital and income to support new efforts at government redistribution, higher taxes, and the sort of green projects that, at least in the short term, would slow the economy and cost blue-collar jobs — but not really affect the 1 percenters’ own livelihoods much. At the other end, the underclass welcomed expansions of federal entitlement programs and the idea of an activist state guaranteeing an equality of result for the less-well-off, with the taxes to pay for it all falling on someone else.

Netherlands, Germany Have Euro Disaster Plan - Possible Return to Guilder and Mark
Excerpt: The Dutch and German governments were preparing emergency plans for a return to their national currencies at the height of the euro crisis it has emerged. These plans remain in place.

UN panel dings U.S. on torture, police brutality
Excerpt: The U.N. Committee against Torture on Friday urged the United States government to do more to combat police brutality, part of a comprehensive report they say highlights American shortcomings in detaining suspected criminals. The U.N. panel also criticized American military interrogations and the way prisoners are held at the detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, particularly the use of sleep deprivation techniques. (Says the organization that has elected the Islamic Republic of Iran, Cuba, Sudan and several other repressive regimes to influential committees charged with promoting human rights. Human rights activists see this as a major setback in their campaign to end abuse and to create open and healthy societies. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/04/24/iran-gains-prominence-at-un/ ~Bob)

A Case for Self-Restraint. By George Will
Excerpt: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” – Newton’s Third Law of Motion. America’s Newtonian Constitution might again function according to Madisonian expectations if a provoked Congress regains its spine and self-respect, thereby returning our constitutional architecture to equipoise. But this is more to be hoped for than expected. Even without this, however, the institutional vandalism of Barack Obama’s executive unilateralism still might be a net national benefit. It will be if the Republicans' 2016 presidential nominee responds to Obama’s serial provocations by promising a return to democratic etiquette grounded in presidential self-restraint.

Republican early voting increases before Louisiana's Dec. 6 runoff
Excerpt: The number of people who cast their ballots early in Louisiana dropped off from the Nov. 4 primary election to the Dec. 6 runoff election in every statewide category except one: registered Republican voters. About 85,900 registered Republicans took advantage of early voting for the Dec. 6 runoff, which was held during the week leading up Thanksgiving, as well as Saturday.

Excerpt: Lily Tang Williams, a mother of three, testified before the Colorado State Board of Education that Common Core was similar to the education she received growing up in Mao’s Communist China. “Common Core, in my eyes, is the same as the Communist core I once saw in China,” Williams said. “I grew up under Mao’s regime and we had the Communist-dominated education — nationalized testing, nationalized curriculum, and nationalized indoctrination.

Obama Admin Plots New Teacher Training Regulations
Excerpt: Currently, the federal government dispenses TEACH grants to education students who agree to begin teaching in disadvantaged schools after graduating. The grants are up to $4,000 per student and amount to over $150 million per year. Under the newly announced rule, TEACH grants will no longer be universally available, but will instead only be granted to aspiring teachers attending programs that are found to be performing well by their state.

Jim Webb Thinks He Can Beat Hillary Clinton. By Matt Vespa
Excerpt: Her unofficial political team is already posturing, saying Clinton could net 386 electoral votes in 2016. One could posit that this is a tacit acknowledgement of Clinton's vulnerability. After all, she’s a bad campaigner, her books sales were lackluster to say the least, and she’s nothing like Obama in the sense of being something completely different from the underbelly of the Democratic Party–nor does she bring an aura of change that captivates a nation. She will also be nearly 70 when–or if–she subjects herself to the burdensome and tortuous life of a national campaign.

Worth Reading: America in Retreat. By Bruce Thornton
Excerpt: The 6 years of Barack Obama’s foreign policy have seen American influence and power decline across the globe. Traditional rivals like China and Russia are emboldened and on the march in the South China Sea and Ukraine. Iran, branded as the world’s deadliest state sponsor of terrorism, is arrogantly negotiating its way to a nuclear bomb. Bloody autocrats and jihadist gangs in the Middle East scorn our president’s threats and behead our citizens. Countries in which Americans have shed their blood in service to our interests and ideals are in the process of being abandoned to our enemies. And allies like Israel and Saudi Arabia are bullied or ignored. All over the world, a vacuum of power has been created by a foreign policy sacrificed to domestic partisan advantage, and characterized by criminal incompetence.

The Democrat-Academia junk science axis digs in
Excerpt: Perhaps the most frightening thing to the Democrats and their allies in academia about the change of control in the Congress is the possibility that their junk science gravy train will be shut down. The Democrats have long used junk science, produced by the various academic equivalents of Jerry Sandusky, in order to shape the debate and form policies for reordering American society.

The next two years are going to be bad
Excerpt: Barack Obama never was a team player and now he is even less so.... A sociopath is most dangerous when he’s a lame duck and no longer has to pretend he cares about anyone else. The next two years are going to be bad. (It's heeerrreee! Noting discussion/comments not loading for view tonight and Google saying sites not available.....Barb)

Bill Clinton: 'Fun to watch' fictional politicians get away with murder
Excerpt: “But the thing about ‘Scandal’ and ‘House of Cards’ that makes it fun to watch is that I can’t imagine that either a President Spacey or the president’s chief of staff on ‘Scandal’ could really get away with murder,” Clinton chuckled, to laughs from the daytime talk show’s audience. “I wish I’d known about that when I was in office,” the 42nd president added, before wondering aloud, “You know, think of all the opportunities I’ve missed … so little time … so many people had it coming. Crazy.”

Gun News

Why one cop carries 145 rounds of ammo on the job
Excerpt: He detailed the gunfight that caused the difference in a gripping presentation at the annual conference of the Assn. of SWAT Personnel-Wisconsin. At the core of his desperate firefight was a murderous attacker who simply would not go down, even though he was shot 14 times with .45-cal. ammunition — six of those hits in supposedly fatal locations. (From the email that came with this link: Been preaching this for years...pistol bullets don't always work...and caliber is not the issue. ..We have friends that were hit badly with 12.7mm (50 BMG) and are still with us... The best hollow point pistol bullets made are prone to failure if filled with clothing fibers before entering the body... You might hit someone with a lethal shot...and that does not mean he still can't kill you for a time after.. (Miami Dade FBI shootout proved that) If you are attacked with deadly force. ..and authorized to respond in kind...you don't have time to pick out less than lethal target areas...you are already on the response side of this fight.. Clear front sight in center mass.. (between the tits ) and shoot til the deadly threat stops. ... then scan for additional threats before indexing and relaxing... Sounds cold....but if you want to go home. ..... Read attached article... S/F --Finger

Dog takes bullet to save child's life in road rage shooting
Excerpt: Austin was not injured in the shooting, but bullets hit a Chevrolet Suburban occupied by a woman, three children and a dog – identified by the family as Noah -- according to police...."The dog took the bullet for the kids so the kids would be safe," a witness said....The dog was seen on surveillance video running past one of the nearby shops following the shooting. He later died behind a building.

Ebola News

Good luck: WHO advises male Ebola survivors to abstain from sex
Excerpt: Men who recover from Ebola should abstain from sex for three months to minimize the risk of passing the virus on in their semen, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday. Ebola, a disease that has infected and killing thousands in a vast epidemic in West Africa, normally spreads via bodily fluids such as blood, saliva and faeces. Although sexual transmission of Ebola virus disease has never been documented, the virus has been detected in the survivors' semen. "Men who have recovered from Ebola virus disease should be aware that seminal fluid may be infectious for as long as three months after onset of symptoms," the WHO said in a statement.

Race Card News

Worth Reading: A Fraction of a Faction and Their Big Fiction. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Above the fold of Section B in yesterday's USA Today was a large color photograph of protestors staging a "die in" at a mall in Chesterfield, Missouri. Yes, another displaced show of misguided anger over the death of Michael Brown - shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson defending himself in the line of duty.

Must See: Sheriff Clarke ~ Irresponsible Groups Descended on Ferguson MO Like Vultures on a Roadside Carcass
Milwaukee County's Black Sheriff.

Excerpt: Many people innocently ask why Officer Wilson did not shoot Michael Brown in the legs. The answer could stretch for pages. More succinctly, a couple handfuls of reasons: 1) This ain't the movies. (Yon is a highly-experienced combat reporter. ~Bob)

Good story: Black residents protect white-owned store in Ferguson
Excerpt: Jordan, 37, was one of four black Ferguson residents who spent Tuesday night planted in front of the store, pistols tucked into their waistbands, waiting to ward off looters or catch shoplifters. Jordan and the others guarding the gas station are all black. The station’s owner is white.

New Black Panther Members Wanted To Go On Bombing Spree, But Couldn’t Because Their EBT Card Ran Out
Excerpt: Two men indicted last week on federal weapons charges allegedly had plans to bomb the Gateway Arch — and to kill St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch and Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson — the Post-Dispatch has learned.

Black L.A. Cop Schools Ferguson Protesters Who Try to Lecture Him on ‘Racism’
Excerpt: The students confronted the cop outside the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD. One skull full of mush, a White woman, who identified herself as an UCLA student, demanded of the officer: “As a person of color, are you ashamed to be part of such a corrupt system?…As a black man, have you ever experienced racism?” Um, that would be a yes. He had grown up in Jackson, Mississippi during the Jim Crow era. One would think she would dismount her soapbox at that point, but she arrogantly dug in deeper.

Not MLK: Farrakhan On Ferguson: ‘We’ll Tear This G**damn Country Up!’ [VIDEO]
Excerpt: Farrakhan stated in his speech — given at Morgan State University, a black college located in Baltimore, Md. — that violence was justified in response to the decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson and peaceful protests are only in the interest of “white folks.” “We going to die anyway. Let’s die for something,” the radical figure told the crowd to roaring applause. (Last agenda for transformation for Rev Wright--race war. See NBP goals....black America. No coexistence. --Barb)

Teens Jump, Beat St. Louis Man To Death With Hammers
Excerpt: According to the St. Louis Bosnian, the victim was 32-year-old Zemir Begic. He was sitting in his car around 1 a.m. when the teens began banging on it. He stepped out of the car, and the teens attacked him until he was unconscious then left him for dead. (I'm guessing there was a racial component. Two under age suspects in custody, but race not released. Any bets? ~Bob)

Finding Meaning in Ferguson: What the New York Times won’t tell you. By Heather Mac Donald
Excerpt: The New York Times has now pronounced on the “meaning of the Ferguson riots.” A more perfect example of what the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan called “defining deviancy down” would be hard to find. The Times’ editorial encapsulates the elite narrative around the fatal police shooting of unarmed Michael Brown last August, and the mayhem that twice followed that shooting. Unfortunately, the editorial is also a harbinger of the poisonous anti-police ideology that will drive law-enforcement policy under the remainder of the Obama administration.

Forget Ferguson, 244 Teenagers Have Been Shot In Chicago Since Michael Brown Died. By Tyler Durden
Excerpt: In the 107 days since officer Darren Wilson shot and killed 18 year old Michael Brown –12:03pm, Saturday, August 9th – the following stupidity has taken place in Chicago: 155 homicides (74% black males) 725 shot & wounded Six (6) 18 year olds killed: Kawantis Montgomery, Kamaal Burton, Tony McIntos, Alexandra Burgos, Rayvon Little, Johnathan Cartwright 59 18 year olds shot & wounded 29 teenagers (13-19) killed
244 teenagers (13-19) shot and wounded 10 shot (5 killed) by the CPD (Here is a no-holds-barred rant about the crazy contrast with what goes on in Chicago all the time, and the massive upset about the Michael Brown case. What a sad and still shocking (to me, at least) situation there. 29 teenagers killed, 5 of them by the police department. Assumably all "good shoots" since we haven't heard any screaming about them. Which means they were shot by police of the same race, or they were armed and shooting at the cops at the time, at least that's my best guess. The problem of violence among young Black men in urban settings has been around for a very long time now, how many of us can remember when it wasn't going on every day as it is today? But we aren't seeing any famous leaders working on major campaigns to find ways to lessen all this tragedy. I guess that means they can't play it for politics and power for themselves. --Del)

Unverified

When the Law Is a Drag. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: In the Ferguson disaster, the law was the greatest casualty. Civilization cannot long work if youths strong-arm shop owners and take what they want. Or walk down the middle of highways high on illicit drugs. Or attack police officers and seek to grab their weapons. Or fail to obey an officer’s command to halt. Or deliberately give false testimonies to authorities. Or riot, burn, and loot. Or, in the more abstract sense, simply ignore the legal findings of a grand jury; or, in critical legal theory fashion, seek to dismiss the authority of the law because it is not deemed useful to some preconceived theory of social justice. Do that and society crumbles. (A nation of laws...That's what we used to be, by and large. And that's not exactly the way it's been lately, and Hanson examines this, all too well. When can we hope for things to get better again? Del)

Obamacare/Government Healthcare News

New York State blocks free medical services at event. By Sascha Brodsky
Excerpt: New York state health officials have stopped a nonprofit group from providing free medical care to thousands of patients lacking health insurance during a four-day dental conference that starts Friday. The nonprofit, Remote Area Medical, had raised $3 million and enlisted hundreds of volunteer doctors and other medical workers to offer a range of health services, including dental care, new eyeglasses and other services. The group had planned to treat about 7,000 patients at the New York Sate event. (Really...not enough democratic control in that state? --George)

Undocumented Democrat News

MS-13 murder suspect extradited to her home country of El Salvador
Excerpt: According to DHS's Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, 25-year-old MS-13 gang member Margarita del Carmen Orellana-Rivas was wanted in the violence-ridden and impoverished country of El Salvador for her assisting fellow gang members in perpetrating three aggravated murders. (Must be one of those kids we need to be more compassionate towards. ~Bob)

Obama changes tune on immigration: Yes, I changed the law
Excerpt: Until this week, both the president and White House staff insisted that Obama did not change the law and indeed could not change the law without the cooperation of Congress. ... Fast forward to Tuesday, when Obama was speaking on immigration reform to a group in Chicago. When protesters began yelling at Obama to stop all deportations, the president became frustrated and answered: "There have been significant numbers of deportations. That's true. But what you're not paying attention to is the fact that I just took action to change the law."

How a Wealthy California Town Makes Sure No Poor Kids Attend Its 'Public' School. By Robert Reich
Excerpt: On the basis of that investigation they determined that Vivian’s legal residence is her grandmother’s home in Bay Point, California. They’ve given the seven-year-old until December 5 to leave the Orinda elementary school. Never mind that Vivian and her mother live during the workweek at the Orinda home where Vivian’s mother is a nanny, that Vivian has her own bedroom in that home with her clothing and toys and even her own bathroom, that she and her mother stock their own shelves in the refrigerator and kitchen cupboard of that Orinda home, or that Vivian attends church with her mother in Orinda and takes gym and youth theater classes at the Orinda community center. The point is Vivian is Latina and poor, and Orinda is white, Anglo and wealthy. (I love this story. From the 'happy ending' department, 66% of voters are registered Democrats. Glad they are so generous and non-racist. --George)

Religion of Peace News

Question of Palestine Debate
Excerpt: I stand before the world as a proud representative of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. I stand tall before you knowing that truth and morality are on my side. And yet, I stand here knowing that today in this Assembly, truth will be turned on its head and morality cast aside. The fact of the matter is that when members of the international community speak about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a fog descends to cloud all logic and moral clarity. The result isn't realpolitik, its surreal politik. (Nicely said, not that it made a particle of difference to the nations of the UN. The culture of hate that has been nourished among Arabs in general and Palestinians in particular for the past 50 years is truly impressive and very scary. The way that the barbarians of ISIS act towards everyone not exactly of their group comes from the glorification of brutality and violence that has been taught to young Arab Muslims for several generations now. And sadly, tragically for everyone, this just goes on, and Sweden and too many other countries become enablers of the terrorism so that it will never get any better, only worse. What a horrible, stupid mess. --Del)

The Real Islam: Couple killed by family for marrying against wishes
Excerpt: Talb, the brother of the girl, was enraged after the local panchayat did not pass any adverse judgement Friday against the marriage of the boy (Hindu) and girl (Muslim) in a court two months back. Late Friday evening he along with three or four of his family members barged into the house where Sonu and Danishta were living. He attacked Sonu with an axe and killed him. When Danishta rushed out to raise an alarm and seek help of the neighbours, he killed her, too.

15 dead in attack in west China’s Xinjiang region
Excerpt: An attack in China’s troubled western Xinjiang region left 15 people dead and 14 injured, state media reported Saturday, the latest in a wave of ethnic violence there that has claimed dozens of lives over the past year. ... The Tianshan news portal said the assailants in Friday’s attack wielded explosives, knives and at least one vehicle. Xinhua reported that 11 of the 15 people killed were assailants.

UK: Muslim rape gang member says raping girls a “religious requirement. By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org
Excerpt: Where did he get this idea? From the Qur’an. “The believers must (eventually) win through, those who humble themselves in their prayers; who avoid vain talk; who are active in deeds of charity; who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess, for (in their case) they are free from blame.” (Qur’an 23:1-6)

Muslim Religious Leader says Saying Merry Christmas is Worse than Murder
Excerpt: Think you can coexist with the Muslim community? Then you probably haven’t heard what this western Islamic religious leader has to say about the horror that is… saying “Merry Christmas." Yes, according to this Muslim, saying Merry Christmas is worse than murder (which, by the way, means Muslims killing other Muslims because killing an infidel like you or me ain’t no big deal). (.”(Have we had enough yet? --JB)

Is Islamism a Totalitarian System Like Nazism and Communism? By Ron Lipsman
Excerpt: The concept of a totalitarian state was an invention of the twentieth century. The notion of a state or nation whose government could control virtually all aspects of its citizens’ lives was not conceivable in prior times. It is certainly true that in monarchies throughout history, the average subject had little capability to individually alter his finances, geographical mobility or political status. But the monarch’s reach into the personal life of his subjects was largely restricted to the upper aristocratic coterie that surrounded him. Tradition, religion, ethnic constraints and geographical proximity were far more influential in determining the beliefs and behavior of the average subject than were the machinations of the king.

On Facebook, Muslim cleric preaches killing of women and children. By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org
Excerpt: “In a section titled ‘killing women and children’ he said this was usually not permissible, but stated: ‘Having said this, one must distinguish between killing women and children and the Mujahideen fighting the Kuffar [non-believers] enemies wherever they find them, whether that be in a school or hospital or elsewhere.’ He also gave religious authority to the killing of Muslims. He said in a video on Facebook: ‘Anybody who allies with a taghoot regime [non-Muslims] whether Sunni or Shi’i has no sanctity and his blood is permissible.’ In another posting, he declared that Jews and Christians were ‘enemies’, adding: ‘That animosity is exposed, clear, explicit, there is no doubt about it.'”

Al Qaeda plot to blow up 5 passenger planes in Christmas 'spectacular'
Excerpt: The warning comes as Whitehall officials admit that a terror strike on the UK is now "almost inevitable" particularly with British jihadis returning from fighting alongside the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. An airport security source told the Sunday Express: "We've been told that five planes are being targeted in a high profile hit before Christmas. They've been waiting for the big one.

Worth Reading: Ex-AP Reporter – Media Imbalance Toward Israel Becomes Rooted
That can inhibit the breadth of reporting presented to the world, a glaring flaw when it comes to reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, former Associated Press Jerusalem correspondent Matti Friedman writes in an article for The Atlantic. ... A "distaste for Israel has come to be something between an acceptable prejudice and a prerequisite for entry," he writes in the Atlantic piece. "The Israel story" is "a simple narrative in which there is a bad guy who doesn't want peace and a good guy who does."

Plotting New Violence, Hamas Dissolves Unity Government with Fatah
Excerpt: Hamas announced Sunday that the unity government with Fatah has collapsed. Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri accused Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas of spreading lies by claiming that Hamas and Israel held secret negotiations concerning Hamas rule in the West Bank. In an interview on Egyptian television, reported by Israel's Channel 10, Abbas claimed that Israel offered Hamas control over half of the West Bank and future negotiations would decide control over the remaining territory.

Muslim scholar: Jihadis are fighting Jews, “kings of gold, sex and the media.” By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org

Democracy and the Jewish State. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Never mind the Islamic State and its boxes of heads. The consensus among politicians and the media is that the real crisis in the region is that the Jewish State is declaring itself a Jewish State. Again. Israel’s flag carries the six-pointed star that was the seal of the House of David. Its anthem speaks of the “Jewish spirit.” Israel’s Declaration of Independence declared “the establishment of a Jewish State.”

Interesting: The Nazi Romance With Islam Has Some Lessons for the United States. By David Mikics
Excerpt: Both Hitler and Himmler had a soft spot for Islam. Hitler several times fantasized that, if the Saracens had not been stopped at the Battle of Tours, Islam would have spread through the European continent—and that would have been a good thing, since “Jewish Christianity” wouldn’t have gone on to poison Europe. Christianity doted on weakness and suffering, while Islam extolled strength, Hitler believed. Himmler in a January 1944 speech called Islam “a practical and attractive religion for soldiers,” with its promise of paradise and beautiful women for brave martyrs after their death. “This is the kind of language a soldier understands,” Himmler gushed.

The Fight for Religious Freedom in Jerusalem. By Ronn Torossian
Excerpt: Yehuda Avner, a former advisor to multiple Israeli Prime Ministers, wrote an essay, The Mughrabi Gate Incident, which is worth reviewing for those who wonder about the Jewish right to pray at the Temple Mount – as some years ago Jews were forbidden to pray – and blow the shofar at the Western Wall.
