Political News & Comment

The Philosophy of the Old Jarhead Blog
The Old Jarhead is a blog of political news and conservative opinion, that has had over 1,100,000 page views since founded in 2008, is read in many counties (Iran? Indonesia? Russia? Go figure.) and gets up to 30,000 page views a week. Plus I throw in some humor and human interest pieces that catch my attention for seasoning. I try to include foreign sources and info you won’t get in the MSM, but I often use links to pieces in the Washington Post, New York Times, Politico, Reuters and other liberal leaning sources. No one is required to read it, or any of the links. A majority of the pieces are sent to me by readers, for which I’m grateful, others come from newsfeeds I subscribe to. I get some from Twitter, but often don’t have time to look at my feeds there. I stop sending the link to people who become nasty or too angry. I used to forward political items, but was sending too many e-mails to my list, so a few years ago, I started collecting them on the blog to access in one place. I use maybe 50% of the conservative pieces sent me, probably less than 5% of the liberal opinion sent, usually to illustrate their views. Readers who don’t like that are welcome to start their own blogs. Blogs are free and so is speech in America right now, despite leftist efforts to outlaw “hate speech” they disagree with and Islamist efforts to outlaw criticism of Islam, while retaining the right to describe other religions in vile terms. I try to avoid items that will turn off thoughtful centrists and leftists or low-information independents, including “red meat” pieces with intemperate language or wild speculation, conspiracy theories with no supporting facts and silly distractions like the so-called “birther” issue (but I don’t always succeed). I predicted correctly five years ago the “birther” thing was going nowhere, was a huge waste of time and resources, and played into the hands of the left, much as the impeachment of Bill Clinton did in the 1990s. (I said so at the time.) I do sometimes include things I don’t agree with that I think readers might find of interest. Readers are requested to read all items critically and with skepticism—just like a newspaper! Readers who send formatted pieces (title, link, and a fair use excerpt of no more than three sentences unless the piece is very short, than fewer) to tartanmarine(at)gmail.com have a higher chance of my using them than people who just send a link. I often include thoughtful comments from contributors. (Tell me if you want you full name used.) A piece without a link has a much lower chance of being used—it depends on how interesting it is and how much time I have right then to search for it, and my time is limited right now due to managing the lung transplant I received on December 23, 2013. I understand if you don’t have the time to format or even to find a link—please understand I don't either. There are no ads on my blog, no fees and I receive no income from it. Now that I've retired, that might need to change, but for now, that’s how it is. I do promote my books, with the royalties going to charity. Thanks for reading and contributing. ~Bob.

My last lung transplant update
If you missed it and are interested. (And who could blame you if you're not!) ~Bob

Good Column: Arrogant Drill Instructors? Really, Now! By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Last week several readers sent along an article about "arrogant" drill instructors (DIs) at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. I've been mulling it over. An incident cited - a sergeant DI not satisfied with performance herded the platoon into the showers for incentive physical training and poured bleach down drains to enhance the punishment. The DI's "training" method violated the letter and spirit of standard operating procedures (recruit training SOP). Thanks to the self-discipline given me by my three Marine DIs, Sgt. W. H. Harris, Sgt. M.P. Martin and Sgt. E. Owens, Jr., in 1964,I've had a successful life. And was prepared to cope with the rigors of my recent lung transplant. ~Bob)

Former Christie Ally Alleges Governor Knew About Lane Closures
Excerpt: David Wildstein, the former Port Authority official who oversaw the George Washington Bridge lane closings that led to the bridgegate scandal, said today that "evidence exists" that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie knew about lanes closing as they were happening. Christie has denied knowing that the lanes were being shut down, causing traffic havoc in Fort Lee, N.J. (I have never believed Christie didn't know, any more than I believe that Obama didn't knoiw about Fast & Furious, who ordered the Benghazi stand down, the NSA or the IRS targeting conservative groups. I do not understand the impulse of politicians like Obama, Christie and Hillary with her enemies list to want to punish people who opposed them in the last election. I wanted to win them over for the next election--the last one was history, and I had won it. For example, a local radio host of an Irish music program was a bitter opponent and supporter of the senator I defeated. I set out to win him over. (It didn't hurt that, though I can't sing, I like Irish folk music, or that he was basically a very good guy.) He ran events for the Jimmy Fund, fighting children's cancer. I went patiently to every event, supported it as I could, never asked him for support or anything. Pretty soon he was a big Hall booster and had me on his show several times. Dumb politicians focus on the last election, smart ones on the next. But maybe their egos are bruised by opposition, and they can't help it. ~Bob)

Republican candidate running for Congress in 4 different states
Excerpt: While some might put their money on both the Broncos and Seahawks this weekend, a 64-year-old Republican congressional candidate is putting himself and his money into not one, but four races at the same time. Allan Levene is running for the House of Representatives in his home state of Georgia -- as well as Michigan, Minnesota and Hawaii. While Levene's plan is unorthodox, it also seems to be legal. (Politically tone deaf. I think the voters won't like this much and will defeat him four times. ~Bob)

Solar Provides 0.2% of Power. From The Patriot Post
During Tuesday's SOTU address, Obama boldly took credit for America's energy boom despite this administration's crushing regulatory state. "The all-of-the-above energy strategy I announced a few years ago is working," Obama declared, "and today, America is closer to energy independence than we've been in decades." We'd point out that America probably would be energy independent if Obama ended his war on coal and oil drilling on government land. He absurdly added that "we're becoming a global leader in solar [power], too." Here's an inconvenient truth: Government data reveals that between January and September of 2013, solar energy furnished a whopping 0.2% of electricity in the U.S., up from 0.02% when Obama took office. But hey, progress!

If MSNBC ever wonders why they struggle in the ratings department so much, it’s because there’s already one Comedy Central.

‘We love all families’: MSNBC could learn a lot from Cheerios’ reply to Michelle Malkin

Interesting: Irish Democracy. By Richard Fernandez
Excerpt: And that’s exactly what’s happening, Reynolds argues, across as a whole range of Federal Government programs from the War on Drugs, Border Control, War on Terror and even Obamacare. They are becoming dead letters. They exist but not really. People aren’t exactly refusing to obey the laws. There are just so many regulations out there and so little time to obey them that inevitably 24 hours runs out before you can comply with them all.

Atrocity. By David Horowitz
Excerpt: There is a human tragedy smoldering in America’s inner cities. Twelve million poor children, mainly black and Hispanic, are trapped in failing government schools that are teaching them nothing. As a result, they will never get a chance at a middle-class life. Virtually every school board and every administration in inner city districts is controlled by Democrats, and has been for over fifty years. Everything that is wrong with inner city schools that policy can fix, Democrats are responsible for. (They don't want blacks and Hispanics to have middle class, elf-supporting lives. By keeping them depended on government larges, they keep them voting Democrat. ~Bob)

You Can’t Save the World. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: For only ten dollars a day or a month you can feed all the starving children in Africa. For only the price of a cup of coffee a year, you can make sure that no one in Kansas City ever goes hungry again. For just a third of your paycheck, you can subsidize a vast bureaucracy that will conduct studies on the best way to save the world and then come up with proposals that will only cost you half your paycheck.

The Nightmare of the Egalitarian’s Dream. By Jack Kerwick
Excerpt: But why stop there? An intellectually and morally consistent egalitarian knows that if inequality in the prices of labor (i.e. income) is an injustice deserving of rectification, then so too is inequality in the prices of all other “commodities” an injustice deserving of the same.
The price of an Apple computer and that of a pencil are radically “unequal.”

Hundreds waiting more than six months for knee, hip surgeries in Montreal
Excerpt: Eight years after the Quebec government set wait-time guarantees of no more than six months for hip and knee surgery, more than 400 Montrealers — many of them elderly — are waiting at least a half year for joint replacements, The Gazette has learned. (The joys of the single-payer system the Progressives want for you. Whether you want it or not. ~Bob)

Interesting; I have not read: Stonewall Jackson did more for black slaves than Lincoln, his legacy outshines Obama today!
Excerpt: Who knew that a humble man in the crisis of his day could rise to such heights of influence that he'd be remember uniquely the way that he has here? The video title is, "Still Standing: The Stonewall Jackson Story", and is based on the book titled, "Stonewall Jackson: The Black Man's Friend", http://www.amazon.com/Stonewall-Jackson-Black-Mans-Friend/dp/B005DIAC52?tag=bullnotbull-20

Stewart Laughs in Pelosi’s Face After She Admits She Doesn’t Know Why Obamacare Site Failed. By Noah Rothman
Excerpt: Stewart said that Democrats are then required to make a stronger case. He said that Democratic governance now appears “chaotic” and their execution of legislation appears to “lack efficiency.” When Pelosi again blamed Republicans for this condition, Stewart became even more agitated.

Yahoo Detects Mass Hack Attempt On Yahoo Mail, Resets All Affected Passwords
Excerpt: The details are a bit sparse right now, but Yahoo has just disclosed by way of their Tumblr that they’ve detected what they’re calling a "coordinated effort to gain unauthorized access to Yahoo Mail accounts". (This short article is worth reading and being scared. --Ron P.)

Excerpt: Yesterday saw the Prime Minister, along with the Tory ministers in Government, abstaining from voting for or against an amendment to the Immigration Bill to override European Union human rights laws for terror suspects. The amendment, led by Tory backbencher Dominic Raab, was raised as a result of outrage amongst Tory backbenchers (as well as large numbers of the general public) that terror suspects are protected from deportation under (they argue) spurious excuses enshrined by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

Syria talks end first round, government not committed to return. By Khaled Yacoub Oweis And Stephanie Nebehay
Boy, who could have seen this coming? ~Bob. Excerpt: A contentious week-long first round of Syrian peace talks ended on Friday with no progress towards ending the civil war and the government delegation unable to say whether it will return for the next round in 10 days. Darkening the atmosphere further, the United States and Russia clashed over the pace of Syria's handover of chemical arms for destruction, with Washington accusing Damascus of foot-dragging to put the plan weeks behind schedule, and Moscow - President Bashar al-Assad's big power ally - rejecting this.

Turkey purges hundreds more police over graft probe, media reports
Excerpt: Turkey has purged at least 700 more police officers, local media said, over a corruption investigation portrayed by Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan as part of a plot to undermine the country's economy and his government.

School Choice Enrollment at Record High
Excerpt: More students than ever are using taxpayer-funded school choice programs, says a new report from the Friedman Foundation. The report found that the number of students using school choice programs -- whether vouchers, scholarships funded by donors receiving tax credits, or educational savings accounts -- increased from 260,000 to 301,000 in the 2013-2014 school year. (A lot of poor black parents would like School Choice, but the racist in the White House is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the teachers' unions and blocks it wherever his writ runs. ~Bob)

The Top 10 Pitfalls of the Ethanol Mandate
Excerpt: The RFS's Ethanol Mandate has led to increased gasoline prices, engine damage, higher corn and feed prices, environmental degradation and compliance burdens.

Young People Better Off Financially Without Insurance
Excerpt: Six out of seven young adults would be better off financially to forgo health coverage and pay the penalty, say Conor Ryan, a health care analyst, and Chris Holt, the director of health care policy, at the American Action Forum. The Affordable Care Act makes health insurance more expensive for young adults while simultaneously making it far less risky to go without insurance.

U.S. States $5 Trillion in Debt
Excerpt: State governments are facing a total of $5.1 trillion in debt, says State Budget Solutions. State Budget Solutions has been studying the debt problems of the 50 states since 2010. By combining unfunded pension liabilities, outstanding government debt, unfunded other employment benefit liabilities (retiree health benefits) and outstanding unemployment trust fund loans, researchers determined total state debt figures.

Militants assault government building in Baghdad
Excerpt: Gunmen and suicide bombers staged an ambitious assault on a government building in Baghdad, officials said, killing two people in the latest such attack in the Iraqi capital by militants trying to further undermine the Shiite-led government’s shaky authority.

Keystone pipeline clears key hurdle, review raises no major environmental concerns
Excerpt: A key State Department review gave the long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline a major boost on Friday, raising no major environmental objections -- in a report that immediately cranked up pressure on the Obama administration to approve it.

Democrats pushed 2014 campaign points into State of the Union address
Excerpt: In the days leading up to his State of the Union address, President Obama hosted the Senate Democrats for some anxious talk about their prospects in the 2014 midterm elections.
There was worry among the lawmakers that the theme of “income inequality” was becoming defined solely by calls for raising the minimum wage and extending unemployment insurance benefits, which would come off as light and unambitious. So some Democrats pushed him to do more. (If the Dem senators were serious about "income inequality," they would divide up the salaries in their offices so that everyone from the senator to the receptionist had exactly the same income. ~Bob)

Worth Watching. Brutal Video: Blue Collar Workers Discover Obamacare's New Costs. By Guy Benson
Excerpt: If you don't watch all the way through, you'll miss a shell-shocked middle-class mother nearly reduced to tears as she contemplates her new premiums and deductible. Even the few workers who "save" money on premiums are staring at towering new deductible, the out-of-pocket minimum they must pay for care before their coverage kicks in. "There's nothing affordable about it," sighs one such employee. "I can't afford it." These aren't Wall Street fat-cats. (Be funny if not so sad. ~Bob)

Excerpt: A suicide assault team likely from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham, al Qaeda's branch inside Iraq, killed at least 18 people after attempting to storm the Transportation Ministry today.

Retired Army General Accuses Obama of Using Wounded Vet as a SOTU Prop
Excerpt: See Video and comments.

Swedish Study: Islamic Extremists Pose Greater Threat
Excerpt: A study of extremist groups in Sweden finds that Islamic extremists pose the biggest threat of terrorist violence. The study looked at extremists on the far left and far right, but finds that an election year there, and a possible return of Swedes who have joined the Syrian jihad, increase the potential for violence.

Excerpt: A senior al Qaeda operative based in Iran and known as Yasin al Suri (a.k.a. Ezedin Abdel Aziz Khalil) is "more active than ever" and facilitating al Qaeda's global operations, Al Jazeera reports.

Excerpt: Bill Ayers, the unrepentant former leader of the radical 1960s Weather Underground group, has been asked on several occasions over the past five years if he wrote “Dreams from My Father,” the book offered as evidence that Barack Obama is an intellectual heavyweight worthy of the Oval Office despite his relatively thin resume.

Top Dem Investigator: Um, We Have No Evidence Implicating Christie So Far. By Guy Benson
Excerpt: The Twitterverse was set ablaze by the apparent "revelation" that a former top Port Authority executive and Christie appointee had "flipped," offering proof that the governor had lied about his knowledge of the lane closure scheme. Except...that wasn't quite true. The Times quietly revised their story without noting any corrections, telling one media analyst that they'd made "dozens" of alterations to the story, and would likely make dozens more. (Hard to know in these cases, with both sides spinning like dervishes. ~Bob)

Cabdriver Gets Six Years in Conspiracy to Aid Al-Shabaab. By Abha Shankar
A Somali cabdriver was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for his role in a broader San Diego-based conspiracy to provide material and logistical support to the Islamic terrorist group, al-Shabaab.

The Price of Unilateral Rule: Obama's disdain for the law may kill immigration reform.
Excerpt: President Obama declared last week that he plans to act even more aggressively than he already has to govern on his own, and he's brought in new adviser and liberal spear-carrier John Podesta, who has ostentatiously advertised the same plan. That may sell in Democratic precincts, but the side effect could be the destruction of what is left of Mr. Obama's legislative agenda.

Jack Lew: U.S. Default Could Happen Quickly
Excerpt: The Obama administration warned on Monday it could start defaulting on the government's obligations "very soon" after hitting a limit on the national debt later this month…. Washington will start scraping up against the debt ceiling by Friday, the day a suspension on the borrowing limit is scheduled to lift. The Treasury will then use accounting measures that will allow the government to keep adding to the debt, but Lew said this strategy would only get the administration to the end of the month.

'Leading From Behind' to a New World Disorder. By Jeff Jacoby
Excerpt: I must say I would be perplexed if I thought Kerry were truly perplexed. For at the start of the sixth year of Barack Obama's presidency, the United States is indisputably less influential, less esteemed, and less assertive than it was on Jan. 20, 2009. America remains the world's great military and cultural superpower, but anyone can see that its profile on the international stage has been deliberately reduced.

Excerpt: During a “Google Hangout” on Friday, President Obama heard from somebody who said he was a fry cook who’s had his hours cut from full time so the place he works could “avoid paying health care” (presumably due to Obamacare regs). President Obama’s answer? That’s why we have to raise the minimum wage. (And for those who lose their jobs when the minimum wage goes up, there are food stamps, welfare, disability and a lifetime of dependence on the government dole. ~Bob)

A little while ago Scott Gottleib and Zeke Emmanuel co-authored an op-ed in The New York Times pooh-poohing the concern about physician shortages. So certain are they that conventional wisdom is wrong that the piece is headlined, “No, There Won’t be a Doctor Shortage.” Right, and “if you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan — period”. Somehow such bold assertions have lost a bit of their luster over the past few months.

Muslim Rape Culture. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: No one knows the real name of the Port Hills Groper, the Muslim refugee who stalked and attacked over a dozen women jogging in Port Hills, even though he was arrested, tried and sentenced. Instead the New Zealand court gave him “permanent name suppression” to protect his status in his Muslim community. (Wonder if they would protect the status of a Christian rapist, and what the feminists would say? ~Bob)

A Social Security Reform that Benefits All
The system is financed on a pay-as-you-go basis where current tax payments are transferred to current retirees. Changing demographics have resulted in a reduction in the number of workers supporting each retiree and a corresponding need for higher tax rates. Retaining the current benefit structure will require an immediate and permanent increase in the Social Security payroll tax of 3.3 percentage points. In contrast, a long-run balanced budget for Social Security could also be achieved by retaining the current tax rate, but making the following two benefit reforms. Gradually raising the retirement age for workers who become eligible for benefits in 2023 and after. Making the benefit formula less generous for higher earning workers through progressive price indexing.

Worth Reading: What We Now Know About ObamaCare
Excerpt: The media focus has largely been on ObamaCare's failed Web site, but the law's problems extend far beyond that. The cost projections for the law continue to increase. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) originally scored the ACA at a cost of $938 billion over a decade. But those numbers have been updated, with the most recent CBO projections estimating a $1.8 trillion cost from 2013-2023. ... Beyond the costs, Americans are paying higher premiums and losing their doctors, and their jobs are being reduced to part-time: An incredible 5.4 million people with individual policies have already lost their insurance thanks to the ACA. Because the employer mandate has been postponed, those plans have yet to be affected, but cancellations will begin in late 2014. ... The law includes $1.18 trillion in new taxes over the next 10 years. The medical device tax alone -- a 2.3 percent gross income tax on manufactures -- will put 43,000 jobs at risk, according to estimates. Overall, one researcher at Duke University found that the tax and regulatory burdens in the law will destroy 1,139,000 to 1,625,000 jobs. ("The president repeated his promise that his plan won’t add “one dime” to the federal deficit. But legislation offered so far would add hundreds of billions of dollars to the deficit over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office." http://www.factcheck.org/2009/09/obamas-health-care-speech/ ~Bob)

Excerpt: Security officials in Yemen say armed men have abducted a British national working with an oil services company on a main street in the capital of Sanaa.

Iraq says kills 57 Islamist militants in Sunni province
Excerpt: Iraqi troops and allied tribesmen killed 57 Islamist militants in Anbar province on Monday, the Defence Ministry said, in advance of a possible assault on the Sunni rebel-held city of Falluja.

Excerpt: U.S. Department of Transportation officials announced Monday they want auto manufacturers to include devices for tracking location, heading, speed, and other information in all cars. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx wants the tech in all cars for the purpose of averting traffic accidents, the AP reports. The devices would allow cars to essentially talk to each other. (Yeah, just like they need all your phone calls, texts, and viewer preferences on TV to keep you safe from terrorists. Shades of a very stinky SciFi film plot. --Barb)

More black mob violence in Texas. This time Austin. By Colin Flaherty http://whitegirlbleedalot.com/new-more-black-mob-violence-in-texas-this-time-austin/
Excerpt: More black mob violence in Texas. This time Austin. Someone care to tell me what is going on? (What the apologists for this type of thing don't say--and may be too out of touch to realize--is that allowing a minority of thugs to define black culture hurts the decent majority of blacks in many ways, more then it hurts whites or the thugs' targets. ~Bob)]

HealthCare.gov can’t handle appeals of enrollment errors. By Amy Goldstein
Excerpt: Tens of thousands of people who discovered that HealthCare.gov made mistakes as they were signing up for a health plan are confronting a new roadblock: The government cannot yet fix the errors. Roughly 22,000 Americans have filed appeals with the government to try to get mistakes corrected, according to internal government data obtained by The Washington Post.

New Homeland official was key figure in Pennsylvania corruption case: Administration won’t discuss vetting, or say if Jeh Johnson knew of top aide’s past
Excerpt: Mr. Marrone acknowledged in court that as a Pennsylvania legislative aide he oversaw the private renovation of his politician boss’s mansion — all while drawing paychecks from taxpayers, according to court records reviewed by The Washington Times. Mr. Marrone was never charged, but prosecutors estimated that he spent 80 percent of his first year and a half in his state job doing the private work of state Sen. Vince Fumo, the records show. (I met Fumo a few times when I was managing a Pennsylvania association. Charming rogue, Philadelphia pol. I suspect he was involved in the city's voting problems at the time. If I recall right, his office was the polling place at least one time. ~Bob)

Labor unions utterly betrayed by #obamacare. By Moe Lane
Try to restrain your evil laughter. Labor leaders who have spent months lobbying unsuccessfully for special protections under the Affordable Care Act warned this week that the White House’s continued refusal to help is dampening union support for Democratic candidates in this year’s midterm elections. Leaders of two major unions, including the first to endorse Obama in 2008, said they have been betrayed by an administration that wooed their support for the 2009 legislation with promises to later address the peculiar needs of union-negotiated insurance plans that cover millions of workers.

Austrian rape victim was arrested for having sex outside of marriage in UAE when she reported the crime... and told she had to MARRY her attacker
Excerpt: An Austrian woman who was raped in Dubai has been arrested for having extra martial sex and was told by police she could only avoid jail if she married her attacker.
The 29-year-old student from Vienna was facing a jail sentence having been accused of having sex outside of marriage and drinking alcohol, both of which are illegal in the United Arab Emirate capital. (Expecting outraged statement from feminist groups and decade now. ~Bob)

Nigeria: death toll rises in Boko Haram attacks
Excerpt: On Sunday, armed militants attacked a church in Adamawa State in the north-east of the country. They locked the doors before the end of the service and shot at the congregation, slitting the throats of those who tried to escape. They also detonated bombs before going on a four hour rampage, burning houses and taking hostages from the village.
Initial reports recorded 22 casualties. However, that number has now risen to 53, with dozens more wounded.

Police Arrest Musab Mohamed Masmari in Neighbours Arson Case
Excerpt: Seattle police arrested Musab Mohamed Masmari this morning in association with the New Year's Eve arson at Neighbours nightclub, says Detective Mark Jamieson. The Seattle Police Department's Arson/Bomb Squad had beenworking with a joint terrorism task force since the incident occurred in the early minutes of January 1, when someone poured gasoline down a flight of stairs in the packed gay bar and lit it ablaze. (I think Muslims now outrank Gays in the lefts hierarchy of victimhood, though it is always hard to be sure. ~Bob)

Are You My Cousin? By A. J. Jacobs
Excerpt: The previously staid world of genealogy is in the midst of a controversial revolution. A handful of websites have turbocharged family trees with a collaborative, Wikipedia-like approach. You upload your family tree, and then you can merge your tree with another tree that has a cousin in common.

Excerpt: California, whether I liked it or not, was in my consciousness yesterday. First, I was driving around, running errands and listening to National Public Radio's "Fresh Air" program. The guest was a Democratic Assemblyman from northern California. This discussion was about a bill he's introducing in the California state house next week that will ban filters from cigarettes. His argument was that, while cigarette paper and tobacco will break down into a compost quickly, the cellulose filter on a cigarette might take years. When the NPR host asked him about the increased health hazards of smoking a cigarette without a filter the Assemblyman said "well that's their punishment for smoking". Now, at first, I thought that this liberal politician was a bit hard-hearted but then I learned that the fellow is one of Sacramento's most ardent supporters of the Northern Smelt…so much so that he voted to deny Central California farmers millions of acre feet of water to irrigate their crops, lest a few smelt bite the dust. Whew!

Islamic group once tied to terror trial received thousands in farm subsidies, without growing crops
Excerpt: An Islamic organization once listed by the Justice Department as a co-conspirator in a high-profile terror case is among many groups that have received thousands in federal farm subsidies, without producing any crops.
