Random Thoughts for January, 2022
Robert A. Hall

Health: Nothing new to report, which is
good news. The lung is still making me cough from sinus draining. The hip is
about 95% recovered and range of motion now allows me to put on my own socks.
The kidneys, osteoporosis, and diabetes all are holding.
This is late because we were in Florida for the holidays. Not sorry.
Except for the hit on our retirement savings.
If we close the borders, how will Hunter get his drugs?
If you hate anyone because of their race, you are a racist. If you hate
anyone because of their religion, you are a bigot.
Podsnappery (Victorian slang)
We’ve all had our fair share of podsnappery, whether it’s from ourselves
or someone else. "Podsnappery" is willful ignorance from someone who
refuses to acknowledge what doesn’t align with their personal views. Sometimes
it’s hard to face the truth.
Blaska’s Law #2 says the more
power points, the weaker the presentation. –Dave Blaska
The newest thing is listing your
preferred pronouns. Mine are He, Him, His, His Serene Highness, His Grace, His
Magnificence.
“Enforcing the law on the
law-abiding is relatively easy. Enforcing the law on outlaw is hard work.”
–Kevin Williamson.
A good sense of humor is a sign
of intelligence.
There is no “debt limit.” It’s a
sham. Faced with defaulting, Congress always raises it.
We
saw two cops on horses at Woodman’s grocery store. “Don’t whip anybody,” I
said. They laughed.
Fellow told me he was talking to an Afghanistan vet who said, “This pull
out means my son will have to fight in this war.”
If you don’t understand economics, you don’t understand how the world
works. Best place to start is reading Dr. Thomas Sowell’s “Basic Economics.”
From the Web: Contrary to predictions from people who claimed that global
warming would cause more droughts and floods, studies published by the
International Journal of Climatology, the Hydrological Sciences Journal, the
journal Theoretical and Applied Climatology, and the Journal of Hydrology all
found no significant trends in rainfall or droughts over periods that extend
back to as far as 150 years ago. Previous studies had examined shorter
timeframes and found changes that were blamed on global warming, but the
results were generally not statistically significant and "not entirely
surprising given that precipitation varies considerably over time scales of
decades." These facts drive home the importance of examining the broadest
possible range of evidence instead of cherry-picking data, time periods, or
geographic areas for political reasons.
The acronym for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity is DIE.
My school, U-Mass, ranked at the bottom in football in 2021.
“Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be
maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.”-A. Lincoln
“There are three classes of citizens. The rich are of no use and always
lusting after more gain. The poor who lack a livelihood are dangerous folks,
who invest too much in envy, trying to goad the rich, as they are hoodwinked by
the tongues of wicked leaders. But of these three classes, those in the middle
save states, since they preserve the order which the city has
established.” --Thucydides, Greek
playwright
Every country has within it the seeds of its own destruction. For
America, those seeds have blossomed into “woke” culture.
Go ahead and buy your coal-powered electric car, save the earth. Never
mind that Asia, South America, and Africa are building hundreds of new
coal-powered electric plants right now.
Want to drive me crazy? Sit on a machine that I want to use next at
Planet Fitness and check your phone messages for ten minutes.
If you want to know what life was like for the Afghan people the first
time the Taliban were in power, read The Kite Runner and A Thousand
Splendid Suns, both by the Afghan novelist Khaled Hosseine. There’s no
reason to believe this time will be better.
Every year when I send my
Christmas newsletters, I wonder how many will come back deceased.
Have you noticed that the people who want more gun
control are the same people who understand personal responsibility the least?
–George S.
The Left doesn’t believe in American exceptionalism and has been doing
its best to destroy it, with some success. Their grandchildren will live in a
third world country, hating them.
“A woman needs a man who makes her laugh, makes her think, and makes her
feel safe.” –Alison Bucklin
(The Greatest Generation) Able
to make all those sacrifices, and still not offended by a micro aggression or
pronoun. --George
Read the fine print, they say. At 75, that’s hard.
Hard work may not mend all ills, but indolence multiplies them.
Build Back Better promises more government as the solution to government
caused inflation. --NR
If you think old age makes you
wiser, see Biden, Joe
If you want your kids safe in school, move out of Dane County,
People invest endless hope in the new year only to discover that it's the
same dreary world it was last year.
Tee shirt: I oil my guns with
liberal tears.
Given they just booted unvaxed Marines,
what about unvaxed government officials and Congressional Staffers?
We need more folks nicknamed, “Matamoros.”
If Biden has, as he said, a plan
to end COVID, he better put it in action. More Americans have died on his watch
than under Trump.
