Random Thoughts for March
2021
Robert A. Hall
Feel free to post or forward.
Health update: I’m at least 99% recovered from my left lung
removal in June. Had the second Moderna COVID shot 2/4, so should be 95%
protected. Still have to wear a mask at the VA, other healthcare settings, on
planes (not that I fly) and in crowds due to other risks of being immune
suppressed from my right lung transplant in 2013. My balance is bad due to age,
so I’m a fall risk.
Big problem right now is the severe osteo arthritis in my
right hip. Increasing pain and limited mobility. Had a cortisone shot six weeks
ago, which helps a lot but is wearing off. Can only have them every three
months.
Talked to an orthopedic surgeon at the VA about doing a hip
replacement. He has successful done two hip replacements and a shoulder
replacement on a lung transplant patient, so he is willing. He has to get sign
off from my dentist (?), PCP and my transplant team, so waiting to hear. The
odds break down like this. About 1% to 2% of joint replacements get infected,
which could be fatal. But this gives me
a 98% chance of coming through okay. Without it, I have a 100% change of being
in ever increasing pain and ever reducing mobility for the rest of my life. Plus
I may become bedridden, which has a lot of infection risk. Seems like a
no-brainer.
I repeat, I
don't do messenger or text. Don't bother.
Steven Spender, 1937, quoting a journalist in And I
remember Spain: “The more they speak of unity, the more they seem to quarrel.”
When politicians say, “You have to sacrifice for the common
good,” it usually turns out the good they seek is for them and their
supporters, not you.
There is an old
and famous quote about prostitution being the oldest profession, and that politics
is the second oldest profession. The quote also notes that there seems to be
little difference between the two. I am beginning to think that prostitution is
the more honorable of the two. --Todd R.
I read that 93% of black murder victims were killed by
blacks. What kind of diversity is that? We need to encourage black gangbangers
to kill more whites, Asian, and Hispanics.
You can lead a
horse to water, but if he doesn't drink, a kick in the gonads rarely improves
the situation.
Democrats want everything free except speech they disagree
with.
Truth is often ugly and the lies are pretty, but they turn
out uglier in the end.
It has come to this. Choosing a pillow is a political act.
I can’t be guilt tripped into sharing a meme. And I still
don’t do messenger.
I graduated from college in 1972 debt-free. I wonder if it’s
too late to apply for a $50,000 student loan and have you pay it off?
It’s okay to call for riots and political violence as long
as the left is the violent rioters.
They would have gotten more viewers if Judge Judy presided
over the impeachment.
The long summer of left-wing BLM/Antifa riots, violence and
looting that killed 25 people, damaged 1500 businesses, and destroyed sections
of over 100 cities (including Madison, Wisconsin where I live) was followed by right
wing violence and riots at the Capitol on January 6 where five died and did a
lot of damage. The lesson is that violence is more contagious than COVID.
At least 25 Americans were killed during protests and
political unrest in 2020

Mostly killed
by left-wing types, so these deaths don't matter.
Every time Woke Left-Wing Culture cancels someone, hundreds
of new conservatives get a clue.
The party that says love trumps hate, and where hate has no
home, celebrated Rush Limbaugh’s death.
Unlike Kamala Harris, my ancestors never owned any slaves. How
come she is not responsible for that and I am?
You don’t believe in Climate Change? Hell, there used to be
glaciers all over Wisconsin.
The Japanese-American Internment in WWII was done by an
executive order by a beloved Democrat president.
For several centuries, western wars were mainly religious, Catholic
vs. Protestant, some internal. Then they shifted to be Christians against non-Christians:
Muslims, Nazis, Socialists, Communists, Progressives. And they are still often
internal.
Democrats are the party of grave-dancers.
Liberals: Race and gender are social constructs, but white
people are racists who discriminate against women.
If you try to be the Voice of Reason, the crazies in your
party, left or right, will excoriate you.
I deplore the “cancel culture” of the left. But the right
has its own cancel culture that has tried to cancel George Bush, Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, Lisa
Murkowski, and many other (RINO) GOP politicians that don’t toe the Trump line. And
the far right danced on John McCain’s grave just as the far left has danced on
Rush Limbaugh’s.
Coke telling
employees to act “less white” is racism. Imaging telling them to act less
black.
If you support the police, put a blue bulb in your outside
light. If not, put a red bulb in.
I get a lot of one-questions surveys by phone or e-mail.
Stuff like, “Should all kittens be killed.” They always follow with an appeal
for money.
“Calling it progressive to send children of
color the message that achievement is White is an irony lost on the woke.” — William McGurn, Wall Street Journal.
The Canadian House of Commons unanimously passed a
non-binding motion to declare China's treatment of the Uighur minority
group a "genocide." Biden downplays Uighur persecution as part of
China's 'different norms' (huh. Liberal Canada.)
To ignore the facts does not change the
facts. –Andy Rooney
From the Net:
White is the new Black.
If you are talking to young socialists, ask them if they
know what “Katyn” was.
If you want to force people to live in privation, there is
no better method than a planned economy.
“The beginning of wisdom, in human or international affairs,
is knowing when to stop.” –Henry Kissinger

“Random Thoughts” from 2009 through July, 2013 are collected in this book: The Old Jarhead's
Journal: Random Thoughts on Life, Liberty, and Leadership by Robert
A. Hall

Conservative Political Essays, mostly published on the author’s blog, including
the essay “I’m Tired” which went viral on the Internet in 2009, “The Hall
