Most people remember their grandparents as they were in old age,
sick, debilitated, with poor memories. I’m a PT (20 hours a week) writer-editor
at the Madison VA hospital for the My
Life, My Story program. I get to interview veterans and write their life
stories for their records and their families, so people will know what they
were like when they were younger. In my first 20 months, I’ve written 192 veteran’s
life stories, some good lives, some troubled lives, but all unique. I think
many of them will be read by the great grandkids 20 years from now. I and my
colleagues, staff and volunteers, create family heirlooms so those who served
our country will not be forgotten.
