Your weekend reading

Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This blog is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. As always, we owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism. ~Bob

Worth Reading: Obama's "Become The Very Danger The Constitution Was Designed To Avoid" By Jonathon Turley
Excerpt: The danger is quite severe. The problem with what the president is doing is that he's not simply posing a danger to the constitutional system. He's becoming the very danger the Constitution was designed to avoid. That is the concentration of power in every single branch. (The website that sent me the info on Turley claimed he was an Obama supporter. ~Bob. Dr. Turley is a well known constitutional law expert, who has written favorably about various social issues and is considered to be favoring the Progressive slant on things. Thus for him to criticize Mr. Obama this way is really telling. Building a constantly worse imbalance of power between the three Branches of government should concern every American, whether Liberal or Conservative. --Del)

Older, but his stuff is interesting: Close Enough For Government Work? By Jonathon Turley
His columns in scroll down format. ~Bob. Excerpt: For many, the greatest surprise was not that the government spent wildly on a defective system, but that the failure did not result in a single termination. While the agency’s top technology officer, Tony Trenkle, wisely is retiring, the appearance of the still employed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at a congressional hearing this week led many to ask a reasonable question: What does it take to lose a government job?

Obamacare's Perilous Protection Plan for Debtors. By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: As written, the law puts insurers on the hook for the grace period. But the bureaucrats at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services decided to issue a rule in March making insurers responsible only for paying claims during the first 30 days of the debtors' grace period. Who's on the hook for the other two months? Well, customers are entrusted to foot the bills for additional services. But if they blow off the payments, it's up to physicians and hospitals to collect.

Single Payer System: NHS struggle to meet £20bn savings target hits elderly hardest
Excerpt: Patients are being denied knee replacements and cataract removals as the NHS struggles to meet its £20bn savings target, official data has revealed. The number of those operations, as well as hip replacements, has fallen to its lowest level for five years, despite England's elderly population – which has most need for those procedures – having risen over the same period. (When government runs healthcare--this is the system liberals and Obama want for you. ~bob)

Obamacare Rules Could Add Big Costs for Volunteer FDs
Excerpt: The International Association of Fire Chiefs has asked the Internal Revenue Service, which has partial oversight of the law, to clarify if current IRS treatment of volunteer firefighters as employees means their hose companies or towns must offer health insurance coverage or pay a penalty if they don't.

More Obamacare woes: Federal website gives unusable Medicaid data
Excerpt: People shopping for insurance on the federal marketplace may be informed they're eligible for Medicaid and that their information is being sent to state officials to sign them up. However, states aren't able enroll them because they're not receiving usable data from the Obama administration.

I like my insurance plan but I can’t keep it under Obamacare. By Andrew Reding
Excerpt: Checking the Washington state health-insurance exchange, I found I am among millions who are getting a much worse deal — much higher premiums with higher deductibles and less choice of doctors, and ineligible for the Affordable Care Act tax credit. My current premium is $278 per month with a $3,500 deductible. My Blue Shield insurer is canceling this policy and not offering any policies on the state health-insurance exchange. The least expensive off-exchange policy it now offers is $545 per month, roughly double what I pay now, with a $5,000 in-network and $10,000 out-of-network deductible.

Obamacare 'Strike Team' Member: People Losing Their Plans Is a 'Good Thing'
Excerpt: "Because a lot of those people, they did have policies that didn't meet the minimum standards. That's just not a theoretical discussion. There's a reason you have minimum standards. There are people out there who have insurance that's really an illusion of coverage.

Team Obama Takes "Affordable" Out of Latest Obamacare Campaign. By Katie Pavlich
Excerpt: As the public relations campaign for a law that is unaffordable rolls on, Byron York has noticed something: the administration is no longer talking about Obamacare in terms of affordability.

Next up: Obamacare worst-case scenario?
Excerpt: At the rate the signups are going — even with the speedier, newly functioning Obamacare website — the administration has a vast distance to travel before the estimated 4 to 5 million people with canceled policies get new health coverage.

Great graphic. ~Bob

Today's unemployment rate if workforce participation was at 1/2009 levels: 10.8%. Hope!

In November, 41% of the new jobs were government jobs, not private sector jobs. Obama’s America.

Good Column: America Needs a President - An Adult, Please. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Whether with intent or through incompetence the Obama administration cannot get anything right. Nor straight. Devious? Inept? Both? Cause matters hardly, the consequences are the same.

Big Hike In Minimum Wage Will Be Self-Defeating For Workers. By Pamela Villarreal
Excerpt: But as the old adage goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
The arguments made by advocates of a living wage are flawed on so many levels, and will end up hurting the people they purport to help. One need look no further than the evolution of large retailers. Thirty years ago, there was no such thing as a self-checkout lane.

U.S. citizen shot and killed in Benghazi, Libya
Excerpt: An American teacher was shot and killed Thursday while jogging in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, where the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed last year. Ronnie Smith, 33, a Texan, taught chemistry at the International School Benghazi, school officials said. (He must have believed that Religion of Peace BS. An American jogging in a country like that is asking for it. Id only jog there if I had the Third Marine Division with me. ~Bob)

“Saint” Mandela? Not So Fast! By William F. Jasper
Excerpt: Countless thousands of genuine prisoners of conscience, who have never done anything more “criminal” than praying, or speaking out against tyranny, are languishing in prisons all across the planet without so much as a peep of protest from the legions of Mandela worshipers and his chorus of media promoters. How many of those praising Mandela as the world’s moral compass have ever heard of Ignatius Cardinal Kung, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Shanghai, who was imprisoned in Communist China for 33 years, most of it overlapping the same period in which Mandela was in prison?

Mandela, patron saint of Israel haters? By Jonathan Tobin
Excerpt: That is why it is vital those who do not share his devotion to liberty or to human rights should not be allowed to hijack Mandela's story or that of the anti-apartheid struggle. And by that I refer to those who would wish to invoke the struggle against racism in South Africa to justify support for those who seek to destroy the State of Israel.

The Politics of Subversion. By Caroline B. Glick
Excerpt: By controlling the Jordan Valley, (and the Samarian and Hebron mountain ranges), Israel is capable of defending the country from invasion from the east. It can also prevent penetration of irregular enemy forces, and on the other hand, maintain the stability of the Hashemite regime in Jordan. Without control over the areas, Israel can do none of these things.

Excerpt: Well, America better step up their robotics technology darn quick, because Obama's outright assault on the military all but assures us that we'll not be able to recruit enough men and women to fight a minor drug cartel uprising in Mexico very soon, much less be prepared for a "two and a half war" scenario. Just this week we learned that Obama has directed the Department of Defense to draw up plans to close the military commissaries located at 271 military bases in the country. He also plans to shut down the century old Stars and Stripes Newspaper and the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service.

British soldier's alleged killer 'told police he went for jugular as he was hacked to death in London street because that is how animals are killed in Islam'

Did SFSU Student Post Selfie with Knife: ‘I Want to Stab an Israeli Soldier’
http://www.jewishpress.com/news/did-sfsu-student-post-selfie-with-knife-i-want-to-stab-an-israeli-soldier/2013/12/03/
Didn't get the memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: The basis for the warning was the posting on the social media forum Tumblr which appears to be by the president of San Francisco State’s General Union of Palestine Students, Mohammad Hammad. The photo shows Hammad with a knife, beneath which is the caption, “I seriously can not get over how much I love this blade. It is the sharpest thing I own and cuts through everything like butter and just holding it makes me want to stab an Israeli soldier.”

Nigeria’s Boko Haram strikes again in Cameroon
Excerpt: A missionary has been killed and several churches set ablaze in attacks by Nigeria’s Islamist group Boko Haram in neighbouring Cameroon.

Ram-raid Muslim radicals - police fear crimes are funding Syrian war fighters
Excerpt: COUNTER-terrorism officers have charged a figurehead of last year's Muslim riots and infamous Sharia "whipping" case over an attempted ATM ram-raid in Sydney's north. Wassim Fayad, 46, one of two head spokesmen during the riots, was arrested at 7.30am last Friday at Auburn and charged over the failed ram-raid involving at least two other men at North Ryde on May 15.

Russia: seven churches burned in one year in Tatarstan. By Nina Achmatova
Excerpt: Churches burned, attacks foiled and increased pressure on Christians to convert to Islam. In Tatarstan - autonomous republic of the Russian Federation, with a Muslim majority - the extremism alarm is increasing. So much so that the President Rustam Minnikhanov has expressed concern and promised to personally follow the investigations.

Majority Rules on Climate Science? By Jeff Jacoby
Excerpt: "Ninety-seven percent of scientists agree: #climate change is real, man-made and dangerous," President Obama tweeted in May. Really? That's not what the American Meteorological Society learned from a recent survey of its professional members. Only a bare majority, 52 percent, said that climate change is mostly being driven by human activity. Scientists with a "liberal political orientation" were much more likely to regard global warming as human-caused and harmful, the survey's authors found — in fact, as a predictor of respondents' views on global warming, ideology outweighed greater expertise. "This would be strong evidence against the idea that expert scientists' views on politically controversial topics can be completely objective," the authors observe.

Important: Scientists Predict a Century of Global Cooling
Excerpt: Better start investing in some warm clothes because German scientists are predicting that the Earth will cool over the next century. German scientists found that two naturally occurring cycles will combine to lower global temperatures during the 21st century, eventually dropping to levels corresponding with the “little ice age” of 1870. “Due to the de Vries cycle, the global temperature will drop until 2100 to a value corresponding to the ‘little ice age’ of 1870,” write German scientists Horst-Joachim Luedecke and Carl-Otto Weiss of the European Institute for Climate and Energy. (I love it, we keep getting inputs that don't exactly support the "consensus" that we are all supposed to accept as settled science. (Science does not work by consensus, and is not often settled when it comes to complex and very long processes like global climate.) --Del. Warming has some winners in terms of increased food production. Cooling has piles of dead. ~Bob)

It's been snowing so long all the Republicans in the office have exhausted their supply of Global Warming? jokes.

Woe to U.S. allies. By Charles Krauthammer
Excerpt: Three crises, one president, many bewildered friends. The first crisis, barely noticed here, is Ukraine’s sudden turn away from Europe and back to the Russian embrace.

It's the Jews' fault: Councilwoman Blames 'Knockout' Attacks on Tension Between Blacks and Jews. By Sonja Sharp
Excerpt: " Many African American/Caribbean residents expressed a genuine concern that as the Jewish community continues to grow, they would be pushed out by their Jewish landlords or by Jewish families looking to purchase homes," Cumbo wrote in the 1,200-word letter, which was emailed to supporters and posted on her Facebook page. "I respect and appreciate the Jewish community’s family values and unity that has led to strong political, economic and cultural gains. While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success." (Wow!!! 1. Yeah...blame lack of black family values on strong Jewish family values. 2. Blame lack of black motivation and success on strong Jewish motivation and success. 3. Yeah...everyone complains about declining property values when neighborhoods decline, but try to reverse that trend and see what happens Send this to a dozen Jews and watch them join the blacks in harassing the Lubavitcher. Send this to Obama and take bets on what side he takes. --GS. [A Jewish friend & blog reader. ~Bob.])

7 Reported Cases Of 'Knockout' Assaults By Black Hoodlums At Yale, Yale PD Downplays Attacks (my non-p.c. version of title by Erica Pandey at Yale Daily News). Posted by The Dave Levine Show
Excerpt: Reporter Pandey refuses to mention that ALL knockout assaults are committed by black hoodlums against white citizens and in New York (Brooklyn, mostly), against Jews.

Good Column: Obama’s self conception vs. Obama’s reality. By Jennifer Rubin
Excerpt: It is easy to see how this came about. Barack Obama was heralded all his life for showing up and being articulate. He was not required to publish much of anything as head of the law review or as a law school instructor or champion of important legislation as a state or U.S. senator. His great talent is in speaking and writing about himself (often inaccurately). And yet few politicians were ever glorified by elites to the degree this president was when he ran in 2008.

Report: Environmentalists Opposing Shale Gas Are Making a ‘Tragic Mistake.’ By Katie Brown
Excerpt: A report released today puts the folly of anti-fracking activism squarely in the spotlight. The report, authored primarily by University of California-Berkeley physics professor Richard Muller, comes to a sobering conclusion: “Environmentalists who oppose the development of shale gas and fracking are making a tragic mistake.” The reason is because natural gas provides a solution for two major worldwide environmental concerns: air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. (Unfortunately, they don't care about the environment or the costs for poor people. They only care about feeling good for being for the right things. Opposing fracking is part of the progressive catechism. ~Bob.)

New Billboard In NYC Says ‘Nobody’ Needs ‘Christ During Christmas’
Excerpt: Just as millions of Americans are preparing to commemorate Jesus’ birth, a secular activist group is once again taking aim at the traditional purpose for the holiday season, asking in a new digital billboard: ”Who needs Christ during Christmas?”

Important: White House gives wind farms pass on killing endangered eagles
Excerpt: The Obama administration said Friday it will allow some companies to kill or injure bald and golden eagles for up to 30 years without penalty, an effort to spur development and investment in green energy while balancing its environmental consequences. (Remember the good old days, when liberals let millions of third world kids die of Malaria by banning DDT to save these birds? They are so over the birds. ~Bob)

Excerpt: My new col at Time.com is about the huge amounts of public dollars that are shoveled at college and pro football. (Bread and circuses for the headcount. ~Bob)

Excerpt: Let no one say that Russia’s foreign service lacks for enterprising diplomats. On Friday, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York announced charges against 49 current or former Russian diplomats and their spouses for taking part in a scheme to defraud Medicaid.
