To you who sleep beneath the chiseled stone.
You died because we handed you the sword,
And we are free because you sleep alone.

I composed this poem
while marching in the Fitchburg, MA Memorial Day Parade in 1975, then used it
in my speech at the upper common. It is included in my book, Old Jarhead

thinking. Back when we were Negroes in the 1950s, “only 9 percent of black
families with children were headed by a single parent,” according to “The Black
Family: 40 Years of Lies” by Kay Hymowitz. “Black children had a 52 percent

“only 2 percent of black children were reared in households in which the mother
never married.” But now that we’re African-Americans, according to Hymowitz,

in the speech that we can refute, in great detail, but we won't. The most
important issue is that this administration is seeking to withdraw from the
fight against al Qaeda and return to a pre-9/11 posture. This should come as no
surprise, as Obama has from the beginning of his presidency called for the end
of US involvement in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and after the Abbottabad raid
in May 2011, touted the death of Osama bin Laden (and, subsequently, some of
his lieutenants) as the end of al Qaeda.

the standard-issue stuff. The Muslim Council of Britain made the usual assertion that the
latest heinous act committed in the name of Islam had “nothing to do with
Islam.” Baroness Warsi, a Pakistani-English Muslim who serves as “Communities Secretary”
in the current government, painted the familiar
pretty picture of “faith communities coming out together” in the wake of said
heinous act “and showing a unified condemnation of this.” The Guardian ran
the obligatory hand-wringing article about
the “fear of backlash” against Muslims in the wake of the heinous act in
question.
