Political Digest for August 18, 2012

Finished the four-day transplant eval Friday. It was tolerable, if not fun. I won’t know the verdict until the team goes over all the results and meets with me, but there were no obvious red flags. I expect to be back in harness Monday. Still taking it a tad slow, but pulled a few things for the blog. ~Bob

Protesters Occupy Obama Campaign Headquarters, Issue Demands

Where did all those FEMA trailers go?
Excerpt: FOX 13 obtained the entire list of FEMA trailers and mobile homes sold at auction from 2006 though May of 2012. It shows many were snatched up by mobile home parks and RV dealers across the country at deep discounts. Bob Archer, a dealer in Houston, bought thousands. "They sold real quick," he said. Many were priced at under $3,000.

Wisconsin Senate: Thompson (R) 54%, Baldwin (D) 43%
Excerpt: After a hard-fought primary win on Tuesday, Republican Tommy Thompson now holds a double-digit lead over Democratic Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race.

How Did Harry Reid Get Rich? His career in public service has ended up being remarkably lucrative. By Betsy Woodruff
Excerpt: Try this thought experiment. Imagine that someone grows up in poverty, works his way through law school by holding the night shift as a Capitol Hill policeman, and spends all but two years of his career as a public servant. Now imagine that this person’s current salary — and he’s at the top of his game — is $193,400. You probably wouldn’t expect him to have millions in stocks, bonds, and real estate.

Obama Edits Official State Department Documents to Tout Himself

Excerpt: Inserting himself into the biographies of past presidents on the White House website apparently wasn’t enough for President Obama. His State Department is now editing its descriptions of foreign countries into yet another taxpayer-subsidized campaign commercial for the Obama Administration.

Dishonorable Disclosures: It’s Dynamite
The Obama administration, to its everlasting shame, has eagerly leaked sensitive national security information to advance its own partisan political interests. The killing of Osama bin Laden by special forces who had been on the job for years was the most grotesque, but not the only, example. Special forces operators and intelligence officials were outraged by Obama’s leaks, as were many others, including Democratic Senators.
So a bunch of special operators and intelligence professionals got together to protest against the Obama administration’s irresponsibility. The result is this video, titled “Dishonorable Disclosure.” It is dynamite: the production values are excellent, and the message is overpowering. The video is 22 minutes long, but trust me: it is riveting, and goes fast. You should watch the whole thing, to appreciate how dishonorable the Obama administration is when it comes to national security. --SW
(Another great job at lambasting the Administration for their deliberate leaks from various Spec Ops people. –Del)

Regional Forces in South Viet Nam
Some American troops called them “Ruff-Puffs” and laughed at them. We called them our brothers and lived and fought alongside them every day in South Vietnam. By the end of my year as a Mobile Advisory Team (MAT) leader I admired all of them. This is the story of one MAT team (5 American Army advisors)) in one of the 244 Districts in South Vietnam and about a great counterpart-the District Chief. (A book about the Ruff-Puffs, by a former MAT advisor. One of the stories from Viet Nam never heard, but well worth hearing. In a way, the Army's version of the CAP units. –Del. We had RFs in the Ville at Khe Sanh the month in ’67 I was TAD to CAC-O. I was friends with several and thought they were okay. ~Bob.)

South Africa's Lonmin Marikana mine clashes killed 34
Excerpt: Thirty-four people were killed after police opened fire on striking miners at a South African mine on Thursday, the police chief has said. (A large number of educated blacks and whites have fled South Africa since the advent of beneficent black rule and a soaring crime rate. Many more would if they had the cash and some place would take them in. It is spiraling out of control—but who isn’t? ~Bob.)

Excerpt: In late July, John Hynansky — a longtime friend of Vice President Joe Biden, and a major donor to Biden’s campaigns as well as President Barack Obama’s — was awarded a $20 million taxpayer loan to build a foreign-car dealership in Ukraine.

Hospital Unionization Harms the Sick
Excerpt: In the last three years, hospital strikes have risen dramatically. According to the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, 2010 saw new health care strikes increase by almost 70 percent over 2009 levels, and last year that number rose by an additional 73 percent.

Country's Economic Welfare Can't Take More Poor Energy Policy. By William O'Keefe
Excerpt: A good place to start is energy policy. The failed energy policies of the past have been well documented. Industrial policy initiatives aimed at energy independence and alternative energy sources have failed, have wasted hundreds of billions of dollars, and have distorted the energy market.

Excerpt: Old Joe Biden and his "clean cut, well spoken African American" boss (his description, not mine) blew through $787 billion dollars and managed to cause African American unemployment to rise from 12% to 20% in three short years....but Joe Biden is really worried about Blacks being put back "in chains".
