Can Liberal Christianity Be Saved? By Ross Douthat
Excerpt: But if conservative Christianity has often been compromised, liberal Christianity has simply collapsed. Practically every denomination — Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian — that has tried to adapt itself to contemporary liberal values has seen an Episcopal-style plunge in church attendance. Within the Catholic Church, too, the most progressive-minded religious orders have often failed to generate the vocations necessary to sustain themselves.

Highland Park woman says father's religion behind his imprisonment in Iran
Excerpt: Highland Park resident Nasrin Nakhaei learned in May that her 85-year-old father, Muhammad-Husayn Nakha'i, had been arrested and jailed in his home country of Iran. The government has not said why it arrested him, Nakhaei said, but the family suspects it's because of his Baha'i faith.

Excerpt: Warren G. Harding was corrupt, as was Richard M. Nixon. Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy were like blind golfers, looking for a hole, any hole, every hole. Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt were power-mad narcissists convinced they knew best how everyone else should live. Jimmy Carter was clueless. But as we approach the 100-year anniversary of the first of these men to serve as president, all have been lapped in debasing their office by its current occupant: Barack Obama.

Nature magazine - Global cooling. Roman times were higher than current temperatures
(Wonder if the will say 30,000 scientists and Nature editors are being paid off.
Enjoy the heat while it lasts :-) - Chris)

Vietnamese refugees’ son wanted to repay his country
Excerpt: Tan Quoc Ngo tried and tried to join the Army. But his asthma kept him out.
On his third or fourth try, after a year in the Job Corps, his health must have improved because the Army finally made his wish come true. ... Ngo, 20, was killed Aug. 27 in Afghanistan when his unit came under fire from small arms and rocket-propelled grenades.

Remember When Being on the Government Tit Was a Bad Thing? By Rev Doug Giles
Excerpt: When I was a young dork growing up in West Texas in the 70s and 80s, my folks raised me to believe that making good money via righteous and industrious means was actually a good thing—y’know, something to aspire to. Remember that notion?

Agency Asserts Broad Privacy Rights For Illegal Immigrants
Excerpt: Citing privacy rights of illegal immigrants, federal officials have declined to release the names and other information about hundreds of people arrested and deported under a 2-year-old partnership between the Escondido Police Department and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The stance drew sharp criticism from Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, chairman of the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee. [ While I was still in California after retirement from the CHP, there was one officer shot in the back (San Bernardino) and a motor officer KILLED near Victorville . In the reports, their names were typical of Latin American countries similar to Juan Sanchez-Garcia . The Media WOULD NOT COMMENT on Citizenship status. A Call to the CHP Office involved confirmed the perpetrators were here Illegally. --DH]

Excerpt: The scientific method, while still used in scientific experiments in the laboratory and clinic, has long been abandoned in the persuasive arts, notably journalism, but also in politics. Any journalist analyzing facts based on logic and science instead of accepting the interpretation of our universe handed down from above would soon lose their job. We have long lived in an anti-scientific, and hence, an anti-natural, world and are now reaping the inevitable rewards of our denial of truth.

Quote
Even when the experts all agree, they may well be mistaken. --Bertrand Russell

Excerpt: Evidence of fraud within a bank is not just a fireable offense. It is also evidence of a criminal offense which must be investigated and acted upon. Intentionally reporting bad marks isn’t something that one should brush under the rug. In addition it is clear that Jamie Dimon exercised insufficient oversight of an office that reported directly to him. (Like Corzine and Gaithner, Dimon may be a crook, but if so he's an Obama-supporting crook, so will be protected. ~Bob.)

A clash of generations – 1 out of 6 Americans receiving Social Security benefits. A larger share of workforce dominated by older Americans.
Excerpt: The bill is coming due. A stunning 61,000,000+ Americans receive Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, or both. Add another 46,000,000+ Americans on food assistance and you begin to see why we are running on borrowed time on a variety of fronts. With Social Security, working Americans are taxed for current retirees. This works when you have a large and young work base supporting a relatively small retired population. That equation is not our current situation. (The iron laws of mathematics are destroying Socialism as we watch, but the beast will injure all of us as it flails around in its death throes. ~Bob.)

Obama Unloads Vicious Attack Ad: Romney 'The Problem' With America
Excerpt: Over the past few weeks, many people have compared what Obama is doing to Romney to what George W. Bush did to Kerry in 2004. But there are some major differences, making the approach a risky one for the Obama campaign. (While his media sycophants breathlessly report Obama's call for a highbrow campaign. "Tonstant Weader fwowed up" as Dorothy Parker famously said. ~Bob.)

Salazar Cracks Down On U.S. Oil And Gas Industry. By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: The Obama administration's loathsome cowboy, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, won't take no for an answer. He's been smacked down repeatedly by federal courts for imposing a draconian, junk science-based moratorium on the oil and gas industry. Yet, the job-killing zealot and his boss just introduced another ruinous offshore drilling ban two weeks ago. (As the saying goes, "with friends like this, you don't need any enemies". Another great appointment into a powerful and critically important federal post, which instead of helping the nation with its priorities and problems, acts to seriously cripple us and intensify our problems. --Del)

Excerpt: Phil Smith, spokesman for the United Mine Workers of America(UMWA), spent some time with us discussing issues affecting his members. This was right on the heels of  Patriot Coal Company announcing it was filing for bankruptcy protection. Patriot is one of the largest producers of coal in the US and is one of the largest employers of UMWA members. Patriot is the first major casualty in President Obama's war on coal.

Rep. Ryan: Obama is "dividing," "distracting" the country
Excerpt: Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., said President Obama's attacks on Mitt Romney's tenure at Bain Capital is not important to voters, and that the president is ignoring issues Americans really care about. "I'm sitting here in Janesville, Wisconsin; people are not worried about the details as to when Mitt Romney left Bain Capital to save the Olympics or the details about his assets, which are managed by a blind trust for Pete's sake," Ryan told Bob Schieffer. "They're worried about their jobs and their family's future.

Obama - 'If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen'
Excerpt: President Barack Obama addressed supporters in Roanoke, Virginia on Friday afternoon and took a shot at the business community. President Obama dismissed any credit business owners give themselves for their success: (Obama is the candidate of the takers, Romney of the makers. We will see who prevails in November. ~Bob.)

Settling the Question of a Real Estate Tax in Obamacare. By Kathryn Nix
Excerpt: There is not a new specific tax on all real estate transactions in the PPACA. But that’s not the end of the story. There is a surtax on real estate transactions that are already taxed under current law. Capital gains in excess of $500,000 from the sale of primary residences already face the capital gains tax. The new tax in the PPACA will raise the rate on these gains.

Busy Month for Obama Campaign with Fundraisers in Switzerland, Sweden, Paris and Communist China

Outsourced: Obama Campaign Raises Money In China--Again
Excerpt: The Obama campaign may be attacking Republican rival Mitt Romney for investing abroad, but it is not shy about raising campaign cash overseas. Last week, the campaign held a fundraiser for American expatriates in Shanghai, raking in large sums from those benefiting from the sort of personal and professional investment overseas that President Barack Obama has cast as unpatriotic in a recent attack ad against Romney.

Wellingborough Imam sexually assaulted two children
Excerpt: An Imam from Wellingborough has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two children while he was employed to teach them about the Koran. Abdul Matin, 41, of Albert Road, abused two youngsters under the age of 13 during lessons paid for by their parents, Northampton Crown Court heard.

Excerpt: But the one we haven't seen yet is the one that will most likely happen: a GoldenGirlpocalypse. We're talking about a massive demographic shift where one in three people in developed countries will be over 60. For every kid under age 15, there will be three Gandalfs tripping over their beards.

Measuring the Effects of Voter Identification Laws. By Nate Silver
Excerpt: These concerns are perfectly logical — although it is also possible to exaggerate the effects that these laws might have. Academic studies suggest that they very probably reduce turnout, but not by more than a couple of percentage points. And although Democratic voters may be more affected by the laws, some Republican voters will be disenfranchised by them, too. (Silver is a leftie, colored by that as I am by my conservative views, but an honest one, IMHO. Of course, if you stop non-citizens from voting, if you stop people from voting in more than one state, if you stop the dead from voting, and if you stop what was known in the hay day of the machines as "repeaters" (people who vote multiple times), you also reduce turnout. There is a famous story that at a victory party in Boston for James Michael Curley, the "Purple Shamrock," Curley approached a fellow loading up as the buffet table. "So, you're one of my supporters," he said. "One!" the lad replied. "Today, Governor, I was seven of them!" People need IDs to buy booze, to drive, to get on airplanes, to cash checks including welfare checks and to get into Obama rallies. Are these folks all disenfranchised by that requirement? Or do the Democrats want to increase illegal voting to increase their chances? Republicans certainly have a self-interest in suppressing the illegal vote. There are historians who believe that, except for fraud in Illinois and Texas, Nixon would have defeated Kennedy in 1960. For the effects of such voting, see "Landslide Lyndon" Johnson's first senate primary. He lost in the first count to a conservative Democrat. But then, six days after the primary, a Johnson boss discovered 200 votes in his county, 198 of them for Johnson, giving the future president an 87 vote "victory," and changing the course of American history. See: http://hnn.us/blogs/entries/4937.html ~Bob.)

'Monica, Monica' chants taunt Clinton in Egypt
Excerpt: US SECRETARY of State Hillary Clinton has been taunted by chants of "Monica, Monica" by tomato-throwing demonstrators as she visited the Egyptian port city of Alexandria. The chants, referring to the Monica Lewinsky scandal when her husband, Bill Clinton, was president, were heard outside the US consulate as she visited for its reopening. An embarrassed Egyptian security official said they were chanting "Monica, Monica" and "Irhal, Clinton" (Get out, Clinton.)

Who Democrats Really Are and What Must Be Done About Them
Excerpt: The Democrat Party is the party of factional payola: it is comprised of factions who are united to attain power and reap rewards such as loans, direct transfer of funds, contract set asides, special legislation for special treatment, pay increases, and patronage. All of their ideology is meant to accomplish is attaining power and keeping their factions united. They have NO principles. Redistribution really means taking from the enemy and giving to the factions in the party.

Anthony Weiner Wants To Run For NY Mayor
Excerpt: Anthony Weiner is not done running for elective office. Weiner, who has a $4.5 million campaign war chest that can be matched by public funds until the 2013 election, has decided he can still use his staff. ... Weiner, who was disgraced by the revelation that he had tweeted a picture of his equipment to a 21-year-old college student, wants to hold the post of New York City mayor, and if the big salami isn’t achievable, run for the post of public advocate.

Social Justice is Wealth Distribution
Excerpt: The concept “social justice” means different things to different people. Justice is often equated with social equality, a mistaken notion if there ever was one. In looking for a helpful way to explain the meaning of justice, baseball comes to mind. (They say "Social Justice." I hear "Stand and Deliver!" ~Bob.)
