Voter ID?

Excerpt: Overwhelming evidence shows that voter ID laws help provide honest elections. Obama is trying to nationalize his Chicago style political chicanery of multiple voting, criminals voting, illegals voting and dead people voting to insure his reelection.

Dave Barry's Year in Review: The 2011 Festival of Sleaze
Too funny. ~Bob.

American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Museum
From having a blog, I learn new things every day. Here’s an interesting museum in WV that I hope to visit someday. ~Bob.

Ron Paul: Reagan Showed “the Disaster of the Conservative Agenda”
Excerpt: Ladies and gentlemen, the man currently poised to win the Iowa caucuses tonight and running for the Republican presidential nomination once called the conservative agenda a “disaster.”

Iowa Caucuses End Presidential Candidacies Instead of Predicting Nominees
Excerpt: Based on past patterns, a fraction of Iowa (NFSEIA) Republicans will attend the 1,774 caucus meetings held at 809 locations -- schools, community centers, churches and other public venues -- at 7 p.m. central time. Each presidential campaign may have one surrogate speak for as long as five minutes. Attendees cast their votes usually by writing the candidate’s name on a piece of paper that they deposit in envelopes or boxes. The vote counting is public and may be observed by representatives of the presidential campaigns. Caucus officials transmit the results to state party headquarters in Des Moines, where the standings are announced. The first-place finisher won’t be awarded official delegates because the caucus votes aren’t binding.

24-Year-Old Arrested in Los Angeles Arson Spree
Excerpt: Harry Burkhart, 24, was booked for investigation of arson of an inhabited dwelling and was being held without bail, authorities said. He is a German national, but authorities said they didn't know how long he's been in the United States. Police said he told arresting officers he's from Frankfurt. ... When asked at a news conference about reports that an immigration problem with Burkhart's mother may have been a factor, authorities declined to comment. (We know he was having a dispute with ICE and that his mother was ordered deported prior to the arson fires. Harry Burkhart, 24, was arrested Monday after allegedly starting 54 vehicle and home fires which terrorized parts of L.A. for several days. He is reportedly an immigrant from Germany although his van has Canadian license plates. We should get more details Tuesday. Luckily no one was killed by this foreign criminal/terrorist. --From a contributor.)

Breaking: German Arsonist in Hollywood is here on Chechnyan Travel Papers! http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/01/la-arsons-suspect-due-in-court-as-detectives-dig-for-evidence.html
Excerpt: Burkhart is a 24-year-old German national who carried travel papers from Chechnya. He had spent time in Germany, they said, but had lived in Southern California for the last several years. Several sources said the tip came from an official at the State Department. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Monday also thanked the U.S. Marshals Service for helping identify Burkhart. (Obama and his Administration have some explaining to do! –Dave.)

The Corruption of America
Excerpt: I'll start with one of the biggest factors in the decline of our civilization – the link between welfare, education, crime, and politics. It is routinely alleged in national political debates that something is fundamentally unfair and un-American about the huge "wealth gap" between the poorest Americans and the wealthiest. Some politicians like to argue that the poor never have a real shot at the American dream, and as a nation, we owe them more and more of our resources to correct this injustice. Most important, it is alleged that only the government has the resources to correct this inequality. This is a dangerous notion...

Third-Party Litigation Funding
Excerpt: Third-party litigation funding offers a world where, in addition to investing in shares of corporations or trading oil futures, markets exist that allow for the exchange of litigation shares. Investors would be able to diversify through portfolios of litigation shares spread across a variety of locales and legal doctrines, says David Abrams, assistant professor of law, business, and public policy at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and Penn Law School. This theorized financing of a legal system is just that: theoretical. No country has as of yet implemented a system that fully harnesses the possibilities of such a reform. However, some nations, including the United States, United Kingdom and Australia have added functions to their respective legal systems that test the waters. Specifically in Australia, the country's Alternative Litigation Finance (ALF) method has brought thought-provoking results and evidence of potential benefits. (May be a reform, but still scares me. ~Bob.)

Jobless Tap Disability Fund
Excerpt: The prolonged economic slump has fueled a surge in applications for Social Security disability benefits, with many desperate Americans seeking refuge in the program as a last resort after their unemployment insurance and savings run out. The Social Security Disability Insurance program was created to provide financial support and health care for Americans no longer able to work because of injury or ill health. These days, an influx of applicants with moderate, potentially manageable health issues is contributing to a growing backlog of cases and adding to financial stress on the system, says the Wall Street Journal. Currently, there are 10.6 million Americans collecting disability benefits -- a figure that has increased from 7.2 million in 2002. The recession contributed to the number of disability claims, as those with moderate problems find it harder to obtain jobs: Mark Duggan, a University of Pennsylvania professor, estimates that the economic downturn has increased applications by 3,000 per week compared to 2007. The increase has placed enormous financial strain on the program: it paid out $130 billion in fiscal year 2011, currently runs a $4 billion monthly deficit, and is expected to deplete its reserves by 2017. (Another government program headed for collapse. ~Bob.)

Taliban says it will open Qatar office for talks with U.S.
Sounds like a balanced negotiation—neither the Islamic militants nor the Obama administration have a record of keeping promises. We got out of Vietnam on the basis of promises from the Communists, immediately violated with impunity to enslave millions. What could go wrong here? ~Bob. Excerpt: The Taliban announced on Tuesday that it has agreed to open a “political office” in Qatar to hold talks with the United States, the first time the militant group has confirmed it has an interest in negotiating with Washington. The Obama administration has high hopes for a negotiated deal that could deflate the Taliban insurgency, allowing Washington to make good on its commitment to draw down troops steadily over the next two years.

Romney Iowa event interrupted by
Occupy Wall Street
protesters
Excerpt: Occupy Wall Street protestors interrupted Mitt Romney’s speech in a suburban Des Moines warehouse Monday night, breaking in with their rallying cry of “mic check” and yelling up at the candidate. Romney paused, seemingly thrown off-balance, and the crowd began chanting “Mitt, Mitt,” loudly to drown out the protestors. The protests quieted down for a moment. Romney thanked his supporters and then tried to return to his speech. “Let’s talk about the Constitution again,” he began. “Citizens United is not a part of the Constitution,” a protestor yelled. (Blurting out the truth. This will help Mitt. My Floor Leader, the late John Parker, used to say that “It’s always an advantage to a public man to be the victim of an outrage.” ~Bob.)

In Mexico, 12,000 killed in drug violence in 2011
Excerpt: About 12,000 people were slain last year in Mexico’s surging drug violence, according to grim tallies reported Monday by the country’s leading media outlets. Annual indexes of torture, beheadings and the killing of women all showed increases. More than 50,000 people have been killed during President Felipe Calderon’s U.S.-backed military confrontation with organized crime and drug trafficking, which began in 2006. (Anyone who thinks we can keep this on the other side of an open, undefended boarder probably believes in the power of pixie dust to bring things like “hope and change.” ~Bob.)

Excerpt: On the eve of the Iowa caucuses, Rep. Ron Paul just scored a big endorsement. “After polling all the girls,” says brothel owner and star of HBO’s Cathouse, Dennis Hof, “The Moonlite Bunny Ranch” has endorsed Ron Paul for president.

Wonder what par was for that... ~Bob. Excerpt: President Obama has played at least two rounds of golf in Hawaii with a high school buddy, Robert “Bobby” Titcomb, was arrested as part of a prostitution sting, after he allegedly approached an undercover police officer for sex in downtown Hawaii.

Excerpt: An anti-Islam blog that failed to remove inflammatory comments from a few of its readers will be permanently taken down by its hosting company, WordPress, on January 6 as the result of a number of complaints filed by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). (The jihad against the First Amendment is winning. ~Bob.)

Did you notice who Obama threatened?

Welfare Lines Overflow: Crowded Public-Assistance Centers Interrupt Services as Demand for Aid Grows
And so it goes in Obamanation. ~Bob. Excerpt: Growing numbers of New Yorkers seeking food stamps have created an unwelcome spillover effect at some of New York City's job centers: overcrowding that in some cases has grown so severe, benefits were jeopardized. The crush of people grew so large at one Brooklyn center in November that the Fire Department intervened and prevented anyone from entering the building.

Great tweet: @johnhawkinsrwn John Hawkins
“Basically the Occupy movement's complaint is that they can't live a CEO's lifestyle on a philosophy degree & a 20 hour work week.”

American Presidents in Uniform
Humor.

Worth reading: Ron Paul's Soros defense plan
Excerpt: During the previous election, Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI) ran an ad praising Ron Paul for his position against the war. AAEI was an umbrella group for MoveOn.org, the Center for American Progress, SEIU, Americans United For Change, the National Security Network and others in the progressive bestiary. A number of those beasties were Soros groups.

Iowa’s sound & fury More stagecraft than statecraft
Excerpt: So we’ve had the sound (an endless series of Republican debates) and the fury (Newt Gingrich’s petty foot-stomping over his rough treatment by his main rival, Mitt Romney). Tonight, we get the significance. If the Iowa caucuses hold true to form, they’ll amount to pretty much . . . nothing. Unless, of course, they do. … Yet the reason Iowa has partly eclipsed New Hampshire is Carter, who leveraged his second-place finish there all the way to the White House. His victory thrilled the national press corps, which suddenly had an event that predated “the snows of New Hampshire” in importance, allowing campaign coverage to kick off even earlier.

The Decline of Naval Aviation
Excerpt: Because the best aviators are calculated risk-takers, they have always been particularly vulnerable to the system. But now in the age of political correctness and zero-tolerance, they are becoming an endangered species. Today, a young officer with the right stuff is faced on commissioning with making a ten-year commitment if he or she wants to fly, which weeds out some with the best potential. Then after winging and an operational squadron tour, they know well the frustrations outlined here. They have seen many of their role models bounced out of the Navy for the bad luck of being breathalyzed after two beers, or allowing risqué forecastle follies. Those attributes of naval aviators—willingness to take intelligent calculated risk, self-confidence, even a certain swagger—that are invaluable in wartime are the very ones that make them particularly vulnerable in today’s zero-tolerance Navy. The political correctness thought police, like Inspector Javert in Les Misérables, are out to get them and are relentless. (I personally witnessed the beginning of the downfall during my last tour with VMFA-232, the oldest squadron still on continuous active duty in the Marine Corps. There are no more Marine Corps pilots made in the mold of Pappy Boyington, or his modern day equivalent, Don "The Great Santini" Conroy. --MasterGuns)

Iran’s self-defeating saber-rattling By Amir Taheri
Excerpt: A month after “Supreme Guide” Ali Khamenei warned that his Islamic Republic was ready for war, Iran has provided a glimpse of how it envisions a clash with America in the form of a 10-day aero-naval exercise — including long-range missile tests yesterday — aimed at closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean. Tehran, hoping to use oil as a weapon, has declared that any attempt at banning its petroleum exports would lead to a closure of the strait.

Did you miss the Christmas White House visitor log document dump? By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: Over Thanksgiving, I told you about the last batch of White House visitor logs quietly dumped over a busy holiday season. I noted MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s August 5 visit (along with several other prog media personalities). It was her fifth visit to Casa Obama; she didn’t respond to questions about what she and her pals discussed with the president. She does, however, have the audacity to blast others in the media for having “political objectives” and taking “talking points.” On a related note, “progressive media stars” Ezra Klein and Chris Hayes bragged last week about their latest off-the-record meeting last week with President Obama to strategize over the payroll tax fight with Republicans.

How to Confront the Anti-Israel Fixation of the Left by Belladonna Rogers
Excerpt: "Much of the malicious and inaccurate criticism of Israel stems from two sources: ignorance and anti-Semitism. If the criticism is based on the first, you can counteract it with facts. Here are four of the principal, hostile myths about Israel and the facts to rebut them.(1) Israel is a foreign implant, a Western outpost, alien to the Middle East. To the contrary, Israel is the historic homeland of the Jewish people, who were living there for centuries before Christianity or Islam began. Jews have lived in what is now Israel continuously for more than two millennia."

Santa killed by Muslim fanatics for being ‘infidel’ in Tajikistan
Excerpt: An outrageous incident occurred in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, where a group of religious fanatics killed Santa Claus. Parvis Davlatbekov wore as Santa Claus to congratulate his friends for the New Year. However, a group of fanatics attacked and stabbed him by crying ‘infidel’ in the street. (Didn’t get the “Islam is a Religion of Peace” memo. ~Bob.)

Welcome, DHS agents!
Excerpt: I've just learned that the Department of Homeland Security has Jihad Watch under surveillance, along with a broad spectrum of sites all over the ideological and political map, including Live Leak, Vimeo, Youtube, Flickr, Counter-Terrorism Blog, Danger Room, Drudge Report, Foreign Policy, Global Security Newswire, Google Blog Search, Homeland Security Today, Huffington Post, LongWarJournal, MEMRI, Newsweek Blogs, NYTimes Lede Blog, Plowshares Fund, Popular Science Blogs, Science Daily, STRATFOR, Technorati, Terror Finance Blog, and many, many others. (Who do I complain to that The Old Jarhead was left off the list? ~Bob.)

I Am Not, Thank God, George Soros by Burt Prelutsky
Excerpt: It would appear that the DNC has me confused with George Soros. I don’t know why this would be. For one thing, he was born in Hungary and I was born in Chicago, so we sound nothing alike. For another thing, he has a full head of hair and I only have a cute little fringe around my ears. He’s a billionaire and I am only just getting by. And, finally, I am sane and he’s as crazy as a proverbial bedbug. But obviously something has gone haywire at Ground Zero of the loony Left. During the past week or so, Frank Lautenberg, Jason Rosenbaum, Dick Durbin and Ted Kennedy’s dipstick son, Patrick, have all sent me messages, urging me to donate money to help them defeat the GOP.

The Graduate: Why Should Everyone Else Pay for Other People’s Dumb (and Hedonistic) Career Choices
Excerpt: Since when have Americans fallen for the idea that government bureaucrats are so useful and productive that the answer to their problems is to have more such people? (…) Being unable to find a job is quite understandable in the current economy. Being unable to find a job because you have made decisions resulting in your having no qualification for a job and making no attempt to do so is something else entirely. Glorifying the kinds of jobs that — at this point in history — make things worse, not better, is suicidal. (A corresponded complained to me that despite having two master’s degrees and being ABD on a doctorate, she couldn’t find a job. I asked what field her degrees were in. She said education and social work. I pointed out that wishful thinking couldn’t repeal the law of supply and demand, and that I suspected our universities had granted far more degrees in these fields than there were positions requiring them. ~Bob.)

Iran warns US carrier to stay out of Persian Gulf
Excerpt: Iran will take action if a U.S. aircraft carrier which left the area because of Iranian naval exercises returns to the Gulf, the state news agency quoted army chief Ataollah Salehi as saying on Tuesday. "Iran will not repeat its warning ... the enemy's carrier has been moved to the Sea of Oman because of our drill. I recommend and emphasize to the American carrier not to return to the Persian Gulf," Salehi told IRNA. "I advise, recommend and warn them (the Americans) over the return of this carrier to the Persian Gulf because we are not in the habit of warning more than once," the semi-official Fars news agency quoted Salehi as saying. (I do believe we’ve just been challenged to a war. Now, we may find out if they’ve already built a nuke. Ron P. Now we have to send a carrier, or concede to them. ~Bob.)

The Tyrant in His Trap
Excerpt: Sky News reports two separate anti-regime demonstrations in Syria — one in Idlib province, and the other in Hama — that swelled to 250,000 people apiece. Security forces opened fire, killing five and wounding a couple of dozen. (…) The security forces have enough firepower to massacre thousands per day if they’re given the orders to do so. That’s what happened in 1982 in the city of Hama. The government actually boasted about killing tens of thousands of people in one weekend alone. We can only guess why that’s not happening today…. (Another possibility is the troops actually doing the shooting are purposely aiming high or low to avoid hitting protestors they agree with (of course, they could just be really lousy shots, too; marksmanship is a low-priority subject of training in that part of the world, I've heard). Ron P.)

Excerpt: “Democrats eat their own,” the actor said. “I’m a firm believer in sticking by and sticking up for the people whom you’ve elected.” He went on to list the accomplishments of the Obama administration, wondering why Democrats weren’t selling them better.

CBS News Paints Santorum Quote as Racist By Adding In Word “Black
Excerpt: One big problem with CBS’ quote: He never said it — they added “black.” He really said, “make people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money.” Thanks to HAP for a nice catch.

Debunking Elizabeth Warren, (D-Occupy) By James Pethokoukis
Excerpt: Recall what Elizabeth Warren — consumer advocate, Harvard law professor, and now Democrat U.S. Senate candidate in Massachusetts — said last October when the Occupy movement was cresting: Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren claims much of the credit for the Occupy Wall Street protests sweeping the nation. “I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do,” the Harvard Law School professor and former Obama administration consumer advocate told Samuel P. Jacobs of The Daily Beast. “I support what they do.”

Too white? Iowa is 91% white, but does that mean it shouldn't vote first?
This clearly demonstrates the racial discrimination of Blacks who refuse to live in Iowa. ~Bob.

I Love Greed
Excerpt: It turns out that it's human greed that gets the most wonderful things done. When I say greed, I am not talking about fraud, theft, dishonesty, lobbying for special privileges from government or other forms of despicable behavior. I'm talking about people trying to get as much as they can for themselves. (I agree with everything except Williams’ choice of the word “greed.” That word implies rapaciousness, disregard for rules of conduct, and total indifference to our fellow human beings. In an old business exercise problem, the student is offered a choice between one customer paying $1 million and one million customers paying $1 each. One customer is relatively easy and inexpensive to satisfy, a million customers are much harder and more expensive to satisfy. The trap is that having only one customer means he owns you and your business; if you lose his favor, you’re broke. If you have a million customers, if some stop buying, your business can still survive. “Greed” is irrational; “greed” kills the golden goose. Rational self-interest feeds and cares for that golden goose. That’s the difference. Our society has to continuously make a conscious choice to be capitalist or slave. And, when thinking of slavery, almost everyone thinks of themselves as being the master, never stopping to figure the odds against that happening. --Ron P.)

Keynesian economics
Excerpt: The beginning of the Keynesian Era can be dated, perhaps, to September 1931 - the year when Britain intentionally devalued the pound, throwing the world into turmoil and currency conflict. Today, we are again in an extended period of economic crisis. However, I suspect that this will turn out to be the end of the Keynesian Era - the time when it is, in fact, Keynesianism itself which destroys us.

No More Mr. Nice Newt: As the caucuses arrive, Newt retaliates against Romney. By Katrina Trinko
Excerpt: Newt Gingrich is done being Mr. Nice Guy. Facing the prospect of placing fourth or worse in the Iowa caucuses, the former frontrunner is looking long term and trying to regain momentum by targeting Mitt Romney directly.

Occupy Leader Wade Varner Exposes Himself at "Family Friendly Event"

How Was the Constitution Turned Upside Down? By Julio Gonzalez, M.
Excerpt: At the time of this country’s birth, the concepts of federalism and the separation of powers were as revolutionary as the Declaration of Independence itself. The Constitution, with its inherent systems of confrontations and obstructions to policy implementation still stands as arguably the greatest harbinger of liberty ever created. The realization was not lost to nineteenth century Prime Minister, William Gladstone, who called it “the most wonderful work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of man.” Although our children continue to be instructed on the separation of powers doctrine, notably absent from their curricula, and consequently in our daily discussions, is the equally important concept of the adversarial relationship between the federal government and the states.

RNC Unleashing Impressive Ads

excerpt: I think it was a big mistake for Huntsman to write off Iowa. Today I am convinced of it. Every time the subject come up with Iowans I encounter, not to mention other conservatives here for the Hawkeye Caucii, they lament what might have been Jon Huntsman. While I have issues with his record as Governor, it is much more conservative than Mitt Romney’s and he has a much, much greater cross-party and independent appeal than Mitt Romney. People kind of like he doesn’t give a crap about pandering.

America is Calling
Good Perry ad.
