Guest post--Letters to the Editor

OK. Let me try by going in a bit different direction to what I still believe is at least one way that we might be able to educate some of our electorate so that, hopefully, on election day in 2012, they'll pull the right lever or depress the right button that, hopefully, will get this nation back to the one that we all felt proud about, had opportunities for everybody who wanted to work, to aspire to, and could even brag about without having to apologize for it. The USA IS AN EXCEPTIONAL NATION that is governed by a U. S Constitution written by and for its people. That is also why it has lasted so long despite attempts by too many people and various organizations to change it, water it down, or try to run roughshod over it.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Hopefully, what I'm now proposing will start to educate and induce as many people as possible to vote for those candidates who have solid and well-thought-out ideas that will help us all to rediscover our U. S. Constitution; make more sustainable reforms in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Such individuals then elected will help all of us to go back to the America that we used to know, rather than one that continues to be attacked by too many people and groups, spurred on by too many PC-driven; multicultural and diversity utopian desires; and any number of misguided attempts to not offend anyone or any group led by people and groups who, at the bottom line, are only trying to further their own selfish desires.

Confucius says that "A journey if 1,000 miles starts with a single step." That said, as a start, here's what I would suggest we can and should do to start our re-education of our electorate. It may sound like a small step, but it is one that I have seen DOES WORK. While most large city newspapers seldom print any of the Letters to the Editor (LTTE), especially if they go against that paper's editorial policy, almost all smaller town and city papers DO. As a matter of fact, many people usually go to their LTTEs even before going to their main news coverage articles in those smaller towns and cities - and there are a lot more such newspapers out there than those who get the NY Times, the LA Times, or the Washington Post.

As such, here's what I would propose. I'll write those letters myself and then e-mail them to those individuals who want to use them to go as LTTEs to their local papers. I would promise that there will also be a fairly steady flow of such letters to address the political idiocy of the moment for both timeliness and educational effect. More importantly, I would urge those who want to sign on to this effort, once they get their latest suggested LTTE, should also rewrite as much of it as you would like to make it reflect more of YOU and the way that YOU would otherwise phrase things.

Note: Large papers do use letters. I had one in the Chicago Tribune a week ago about "concealed carry." But they tend to limit how often they will use a letter from a particular writer--I get in about one out of three. On the other hand, you can put comments on the bottom of most on-line opinion columns. I often do, but it can be a pain to jump through the hoops to register. ~Bob.
