Random Thoughts for March, 2023
Robert A. Hall
Feel free to post or forward.
Health Update: Have had yet
another bad chest cold; makes breathing hard. Other than that, I seem to be
trucking along.
Good riddance
to February.
So I’m
sitting in the VA waiting for an eye appointment (it was all good) and this old
(my age) Marine Viet vet sits beside me. He has a great cane with a gold
handle. We’re talking about Vietnam (he was wounded three times spent 2.5 years
in a naval hospital) when a hearing tech comes out and say something to him
about guys down the hall. “I’m not worried, “ he says, “I’ve got a sword in
this cane.” The tech says, “You shouldn’t have that in the VA.” After he leaves
I said, “You shouldn’t tell someone at the VA you have a sword.” I come out
from my appointment and see two VA cops going into an exam room. One comes out
with the cane.
How come
Biden could have lawyers present when the FBI searched his place, but Trump
couldn’t?
“If
you’re not confused, you’re not paying attention.” ~ Tom Peters
The
death of a black man beaten by five black cops reflects how hard it is to hire
good cops after two years of trashing the police. To the left, of course, it’s
another example of white supremacism.
"One
(1) of the saddest lessons of history is this; if we've been bamboozled long
enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer
interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It's
simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we've been
taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it
back." ~ Dr. Carl E. Sagan
Most
people have a junk drawer. Our house looks like a junk drawer. We’re not
hoarders—but we can see it from here.
“Cryptocurrency is not a currency, not a
commodity, and not a security. Instead it’s a gambling contract with a nearly
100% edge for the house.” ~ Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett’s longtime Number 2.
“I am
convinced that ‘Latinx’ was invented by someone who, yes, is a Democrat hack,
but who really only did it because they play a lot of Scrabble and X is 8
points. I’m guessing the next one they do will be ‘tranz’ because the Z is
worth 10 points. The woke explanation will be that trans issues are ignored and
dealt with last and Z is the last letter in the alphabet so it is spelled
‘tranz’ to remind everyone of how they are treated as an afterthought………or
something.” ~ Kevin Durant
China is
economically competitive with the US because they have no concern about the environment
or human rights.
“Like
many of the religious cults it resembles, climate fundamentalism is
characterized by a perpetual quest for purity.” ~ Andrew Stuttaford.
Restaurants
say “collops of beef” because “chunks of cow” wouldn’t sell. Likewise, progressives
say “we provide gender-affirming care” because “we mutilate children” would hit
too close to home.
Now that
illegal immigrants can become cops in California, will they immediately arrest
themselves for breaking immigration laws?
“The
president taking (the Chinese spy balloon) down over the Atlantic is sort of
like tackling the quarterback after the game is over,” ~ Rep. Mike Turner,
chair of the House Intelligence Committee.
Sen.
Fetterman was hospitalized for being lightheaded. How could he tell?
“It
takes a lot more energy to refute bullshit than to produce it. Hence, the world
is full of unrefuted bullshit.” ~ the Brandolini Effect
Any day I
expect PETA to come out against antibiotics because germs are animals and have
as much right to life as other animals.
A good
novelist makes you believe the characters are real people.
Try not
to bend the facts to fit your ideology.
The left
doesn’t want gun control. They want victim disarmament.
“I found
it kinda funny that now we spend more time teaching kids that they can’t read
because they’re oppressed, than just teaching them to read.” ~ George
Women’s first
right: to be born.
“The
problem isn’t that Johnny can’t read. The problem isn’t even that Johnny can’t
think. The problem is that Johnny doesn’t know what thinking is; he confuses it
with feelings.” ~ Thomas Sowell
“The best
thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
Nothing
is as futile as “If.”
People
prefer lies they like to truths that make them uncomfortable.
“I have a
memory like an Elephant. In fact, elephants often consult me.” ~ Playwright
Noel Coward
We need
to expel Turkey from NATO. It’s a saboteur inside the perimeter.
When I
was a kid, the technical term for ADHD was “boyhood.”
If I
answer the phone and say Hello, and no one says hello back in a couple of
seconds, I assume it’s a robo call and hang up.
In Canada
there is an activist group opposing euthanasia called Toujours Vivant (Not Dead
Yet). Naturally, liberal media and politicians are savaging it.
“I watch
so many crime shows that when I turn off the TV I wipe my fingerprints off the
remote!” ~ MeWe.com
Note from a dental technician who bought two of my quote
books: “My dad and whole family will greatly enjoy these as they resonate with
everything we value & hold dear. What a gift you have & what a
sacrifice of time.” ~ Emily
Email from
a guy in NC: “I bought four copies of your Quotes. I gave three to
friends and one is on my desk. GREAT WORK !” – Kirk. He followed up that
he bought a two more books for other friends! He also wrote a very positive
review on Amazon.
