Random Thoughts for September, 2022
Robert A. Hall
Feel free to post or forward.
Health Update: Other than a bad fall on August 1,
which didn’t break anything, but left the biggest bruise I ever had on my lower
back, things have been stable.
I have trouble with burning eyes, especially when I
read. The optometrist at the VA suggested I wet a paper towel with very hot
water and hold it against my eyes. That works better than eye drops!
*****
My new job. On August 31, I was offered and accepted a position teaching chess
after school for the Youth Enrichment League in Dane County. I will teach two
hours Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday, one on Tuesday. The pay is $25 an hour
for the seven hours. They will even pay me to be there 15 minutes early to set
up! The fall semester runs eight weeks, September to November. I suppose I might teach in the winter and
spring semesters also.
So, we have the inflation reduction act, which even
progressives like Bernie say will not reduce inflation. What will it do?
·
Tax
businesses which will increase costs to you, or take it out of stockholders
living on dwindling IRAs, like me. Or maybe both.
·
Will
give millions of dollars of your money to crony green capitalists.
·
Double
your chance of being audited by armed IRS agent next year.
·
Reward
woke politicians, teachers, and unions with your money.
·
Subsidize
coal-powered electric vehicles you can’t afford anyway.
·
Increase
inflation by printing more money to pay for all this, thus savaging the elderly
on fixed incomes.
·
New natural
gas, coal, and crude oil taxes to increase your energy costs.
·
Increased
taxes on family businesses.
·
Excise
tax on drug makers to increase your health costs.
·
A new stock
tax which will hit your retirement funds.
Alas, three of my favorite candidates were defeated
in the Wisconsin primary: Charity Barry for Congress, Rebecca Kleefisch for Governor,
and Cindy Warner for Lt. Governor (the last wasn’t a surprise, but the black
grandmother and veteran got 80K votes, running third. Not a bad showing.) Barry
lost .by 63 votes. That hurt; Bonnie and I campaigned hard for her. On to
November. Let’s hope those predicting a “Red Wave” aren’t counting unhatched
chickens. I think Trump will be a drag on Republican candidates. We shall see.
The President, “Is thickheaded, he is ignorant, he
is tricky, somewhat astute in a small way, and as obstinate as a mule…he is
wrongheaded…the petty politician not the statesman, and in my view,
ill-deserving of the soubriquet of honest.”
Trump? Biden? Clinton? Bush? No, Brownson was writing about Lincoln.
If every Republican who is called a RINO loses for
the senate in November, the progressives Democrats will control the chamber,
and judge appointments, for at least two more years.
Flying the Confederate Battle Flag draws a lot of flak. A Norwegian restaurant was forced to take down the Norwegian flag because historically-ignorant people thought it was the Rebel flag.
But I bet you could fly the one of the Confederate National
Flags without a peep of protest.
With the left-media, the “pan has hit the beam.”
Are you ready to be taxed to pay off the student
loans of kids taken out by well-to-do families whose kids used them to go to
college when working class kids couldn’t?
The DNC has contributed big dollars to Trump-endorsed
primary candidates. I don’t think it’s because they love Republicans. Pay attention, GOP voters.
I graduated from college in 1972 without any college
debt. Now we all have the debt of people who borrowed and won’t pay.
Democracies have to fight wars with one eye on the
voters. Dictators have to fight wars with one eye on the people around them.
Anyone can end a war by surrendering.
“Never trust words. Some people have sugar on their
lips but venom in their hearts.” ~ MeWe.com
Biden said he
had a plan to end COVID. He better put it into effect—tens of thousands
more people have died of COVID on his watch than under Trump.
“Why should men believe a lie, an absurd lie, that
would not impress on a child, and cling to it, and repeat it in the face of all
evidence?” ~ A Lincoln
“You can be pitiful, or you can be powerful,
but you can't be both” ~ Joyce
Meyer
If the FBI’s raid on Trump’s
home turns up serious evidence, it will probably sink him. If it doesn’t, it
will probably re-elect him president.
“Grief is just love with no place to go.” ~ Jamie
Anderson
Funny I can remember in detail what happened in
Marine Boot Camp in 1964, but not why I just walked into the kitchen.
“Liberals are
politically successful because their ends and means are compatible: they seek
power to wield power. Conservatives' ends and means are at odds: in pursuit of
limited government, they seek power to relinquish it.” ~ Rev. Alison Bucklin
“By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by
reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third
by experience, which is the bitterest.” ~ Commonly attributed to Confucius.
The FBI’s refusal to let Trump’s lawyers watch while
they searched his home lends credence to the claim that they were planting
evidence.
If every so-called RINO in the senate is defeated,
the far left will have the majority it needs to do whatever it wants.
“Censorship is a coward’s only shield.” ~ Dr. Robert
Malone
Amazing how many people today are tolerant of
corruption, especially if their side does it.
“They were so deeply laden with weighty matters they
must have sunk. In our affliction, we can console ourselves with the pious
reflection that there are plenty more of the same sort.” ~ General William T.
Sherman happily learning that four reporters were on a tow boat sunk trying to
run by the Vicksburg Batteries. (They were fished out and made prisoners by the
Rebels.)
One day I got about 20 calls with the “Amazon Scan,”
where they say they are Amazon calling to authorize a payment of $999. Scum.
And “Lisa” has called about insurance coverage twice a day since January.
“Where ever law ends, tyranny starts.” ~ John Locke
“If you see a head, hit it.” ~ Tipperary Maxim
I still have all my marbles. I just can’t remember
where I put some of them.
“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” ~
Rousseau
Support a flat tax. Defund the FBI.
“The further a society drifts from the truth, the
more it will hate those that speak it.” ~ George Orwell
The next GOP president should fire all those IRS
agents, but give them first consideration to become school guards.
The media is so chicken shit now days, they are
renaming it the “Pullet Surprise.” ~ Anon.

repay you.

people will be banned from thinking so as not to offend the imbeciles.” ~ Fyodor
Dostoevsky
“One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make
sure it’s worth watching.” ~ Gerard Way
Dear Nancy: Free societies don’t suppress religion,
the press, free speech, or engage in genocide.
“If you don’t ask, the answer will always be no.” ~
MeWe.com
“Fight them until hell freezes over, then fight on
the ice.” ~ Old Saying, at least as far back as the Civil War.
“The average American of today is intellectually so
far removed from his forebearers that instead of regarding government with
apprehension, he is more likely to regard it as a virtual parent, concerned
only with protecting and helping him.” ~ George Reisman
Never mind the “Sell By” date. Milk isn’t bad until
sniffing it makes you gag.
Government has no shame.
Every day is a new opportunity to get your ass in a
sling.
“An angry man opens his mouth and shuts his eyes.” ~
Cato the elder
“Mental attitude is more important than mental
capacity.” ~ Walter Dill Scott
Democrats condemned Florida for what they called the
“Don’t Say Gay” bill. Researchers say that Monkey Pox is spread by sex between
men. Now who can’t say gay? And why isn’t the FBI investigating the nine cases
in children?
Own up to your mistakes and do it before others jump
on you. You will find it liberating, and people will have more trust in you.
Defensiveness is not attractive.
Be as patriotic and brave as Capt. Sam.

How about the death penalty for anyone importing or
selling fentanyl, heroin, or cocaine? It kills many kids daily.
"There are more instances of the abridgment of
the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power
than by violent and sudden usurpations." ~ James Madison (1788)
Gas has gone down over a dollar a gallon. Want to
bet if it will go up after the November election?
Student Loan Cancellation is nothing more than the
usual Democrat vote buying with your money.
The way American Energy is going, we’ll all be
hoping for coal for Christmas.
Progressives think you and I are responsible for
slavery, but immigrants and criminals aren’t responsible for their actions.
Sī vīs pācem, parā bellum.
Colleges value every kind of diversity
except the most important one: diversity of thought.

murderers, you might be a Democrat.
