This topic has come up a good deal in the last decade or so, and for good reason. Williams is one of our senior commentators, with a long history of factual, reasoned inputs. I think this essay could have been even longer, but he does cover a lot of critical ground in it. He doesn't say what others have said, but I will here- it's time and more than time for people of Western civilization to stand up for all the solid good in this kind of society, regardless of whatever flaws and faults it may have. It is of course not perfect, what is? But it's not just good, it's the best thing that's ever happened to human beings, and letting it be trashed and undercut and eaten away would be a horrible thing for all our descendants and the world in general. Enough with the PC nonsense, enough with the politics of divisiveness, enough with accepting guilt for so many accomplishments that happened to come from old White men. And it's time for schools and colleges to get back to something like effective education of citizens! --Del
