The president of the college invites some Black students to his home for a home cooked meal, and they are totally bent out of shape because a table decoration uses cotton blooms, and dinner includes corn bread, mac&cheese, and collard greens. Fairly typical Southern food, but they jump to the conclusion that he's tried to make "Black food' for them.... which is insulting.
When they asked him about why cotton, since it seems racist to them, his reply is that how can it be racist if we're all wearing it? They take this as a snide dismissal of their deep concerns.
So the college president holds a dinner at his home just for Black students, he and his wife eat with them, talk about their lives, go out of their way to be hospitable, and all that happens is they find ways to be upset about everything.
How in hell can anyone expect things to ever get better when this level of hypersensitivity has been created and seems to be growing?

With the continuing lack of clear thinking decisive leadership, it will never get better. This story, like so many like it, epitomizes the sugar coated world that so many seem to want to live. People need to deal with the realities...not run from them. it's sickening....
