We met Justice Bradley at the Dane County Republican Party Christmas Party Wednesday night, and were so impressed we felt compelled to attend a reception for her on Thursday. She looks 25 and should be running for college homecoming queen. She's actually 44, has an excellent balance of judicial experience, and solid private sector legal experience. Her judicial philosophy: "The role of a justice is to interpret the law, not invent it. The people of Wisconsin are best served by justices who understand and embrace their duty to state what the law is, not what they prefer it to be. Justices should defer to democratic processes that result in the creation of laws by legislatures and not attempt to impose their policy preferences in their decisions. It is essential to our system of justice to have independent justices who will apply the law impartially, free of political agendas. America was founded on the principle that Constitutional laws enacted by the people’s representatives in the legislative branch of government are to be upheld by the judicial branch, not second-guessed. Laws are appropriately subject to judicial review, not a judicial veto. The judiciary should defer to legislative policy choices, not impose their own. Justices must apply the law as it is written, and should be guided by principles such as judicial restraint and respect for the separation of powers among the three branches of government." I spoke with the Chief Justice at the reception, and she praised how quickly Bradley has come up to speed and taken on a full workload since she was appointed this fall to fill a seat of Justice Patrick Crook, who died in office. She is running for a full term on the court in the primary on February 16 against three opponents, and if she comes in the top two, in the general election on April 5, 2016. Yes, maybe he's just setting a record for how stupid you can be at the age of 21, but the point is that somehow as a minority kid he gets a pass on this, where I would bet my car if not my house that a White kid would be lucky to be out of jail on bail, and banned from the campus until further notice. So they have these VA executives dead to rights on their defrauding the system to extract "relocation" monies, and at long last, after many months of being out on administrative leave, meaning full pay and benefits, they get demoted. Then the next thing that happens is they appeal somehow and it doesn't get fought and they get reinstated and keep all the money they actually stole from the VA and us taxpayers. (Not small change, it was $400K!) So blatant criminal behavior has essentially zero penalty, and we are stuck with it and they still work at the VA, collecting great salaries and benefits and working towards their well financed retirements. How can this happen? Answer- totally gutless/incompetent people in charge who aren't remotely up to the job. Another great appointee from our great leader. Nothing will ever happen to improve the VA until there is a different Administration in power. --Del
