Truthful Media
Protection Agency
Consumers are fed up with media distorting the
news and feeding false information to the public. They are also sick and tired
of many Internet blogs and supposed Internet news outlets as well as "Talk
Radio" doing the same. Finally they are fed up with individuals
spreading untruths via email. President Obama should follow Putin's lead and
dissolve all offending news agencies and create the Truthful Media Protection
Agency(TMPA). A Presidential Executive Order should do the job. If Putin can do
it, Obama can do it. Why should Russians have better access to
truthful news than Americans? The new TMPA should be a sub-agency of the
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the news and news
providers will be regulated and overseen without congressional oversight
just like financial companies. CFPB Director, Richard Cordray, will
have the authority to establish rules and regulations on all news whither
generated by business or individuals and transmitted by mail, on the Internet, or
by any other method. This is a preventive medicine mental health issue so under
the Affordable Care Act all insurance company policies should include
required mandatory subscriptions to government approved news. Occasional random
testing will be performed to ensure that everyone is actually consuming and
understanding the news. IRS will be responsible for testing and collecting
additional taxes in the event of failure to comply with this area of the
Affordable Care Act or for failing a random test. --MM
Small Businesses
Weigh Sending Sick Workers to Obamacare Exchanges
Excerpt: Can an employer pay chronically ill workers to
leave the company health plan and get insurance somewhere else? That’s a
question some business owners are asking, now that no one can be turned away
from individual health plans under Obamacare.
Excerpt: Schermerhorn-was surprised to learn that Anthem
Blue Cross (via Covered California/ObamaCARE) debited $1,200 from her account.
This was without Alliso Schermerhorn’s knowledge, and after she cancelled her
coverage.
Staples Accused Of
Cutting Employee Hours Ahead Of Obamacare
Excerpt: Staples is limiting the number of hours part-time
associates can work to 25 hours a week, a move that has drawn the ire of
disgruntled workers who claim it is a way to skirt impending rules requiring
companies to provide health insurance for full-time employees or face a steep
penalty.
Oops: Insurance Companies Have No Record of Some Obamacare
Applicants. By Christine
Rousselle
Excerpt: Another day, another Obamacare glitch. This time,
the issue is more than 13,000 people who have signed up for health insurance,
but the insurance companies have no idea who they are.
Surprise! Walmart health plan is cheaper, offers more
coverage than Obamacare. By Richard Pollock
Excerpt: New Obamacare health
insurance enrollees may feel a pang of envy when they eye the coverage plans
offered by Walmart to its employees. For many years, the giant
discount retailer has been the target ofunions and
liberal activists who have harshly criticized the company'shealth
care plans, calling them “notorious for failing to provide health
benefits” and "substandard.”

Syria: al Qaida kills
50 prisoners in Aleppo, activists say
Excerpt: The prisoners were killed at a former eye hospital
in Aleppo , the
activists said. The sources said the executions were carried out by members of
the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, an al Qaida-linked militant group in Syria
which has been attacked by local insurgents over the past few days.
Congressional Exodus
Grows: Two House Dems Call It Quits
Excerpt: Two veteran Democratic members of Congress have
decided to retire at the end of the term, making it tougher for Democratic
plans to recapture a House majority this fall. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, a
nine-term Democrat from New York , and Rep.
Mike McIntyre, a nine-term Democrat from North
Carolina , both announced Wednesday that they have had
enough.
Excerpt: The fertility rate of women in the United States
fell to a record low for the second year in a row in 2012, according to data released
last week by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Also
for the second year in a row, 40.7 percent of the babies born in the United States
were born to unmarried mothers.
Christie’s Waterloo
Excerpt: Emails and text messages among his close aides made
public Wednesday documented that in September they gleefully engineered George Washington
Bridge lane closures to punish the Democratic
mayor of Fort Lee for failing to endorse their
boss’ reelection. Local officials say the gridlock they caused delayed
ambulances in responding to four calls, including one involving an unconscious
91-year-old woman who later died.
The Number of Christians
Murdered by Muslims Doubled in 2013
Excerpt: Reported cases of Christians killed for their faith
around the world doubled in 2013 from the year before, with Syria
accounting for more than the whole global total in 2012, according to an annual
survey. Open Doors, a non-denominational group supporting persecuted Christians
worldwide, said on Wednesday it had documented 2,123 “martyr” killings,
compared with 1,201 in 2012. There were 1,213 such deaths in Syria alone
last year, it said. (Still only a tiny fraction of the Muslims murdered by
Muslims in the name of Allah. ~Bob)
Define Income
Inquality: The Left sees it as a disease; the Right sees it as
a symptom. By Jonah Goldberg
Excerpt: As a broad generalization, liberals see income as a
public good that is distributed, like crayons in a kindergarten class. If
so-and-so didn’t get his or her fair share of income, it’s because someone or
something — government, the system — didn’t distribute income properly. To the
extent conservatives see income inequality as a problem, it is as an indication
of more concrete problems. (Notice those prating about "income
inequality" never try to get the organizations they work for, such as the
White House, to pay everyone employed there, from the boss to the janitor,
exactly the same equal salary? ~Bob)
Changes in the
Pacific: A Return to the 1930s: China believes it’s now time for
its military to reflect its economic power. By Victor Davis
Hanson
Excerpt: In the 1920s, Japan began to translate its
growing economic might — after a prior 50-year crash course in Western
capitalism and industrialization — into formidable military power. At first,
few of its possible rivals seemed to care. America and condescending European
colonials did not quite believe that any Asian power could ever dare to
threaten their own Pacific interests.
Al Qaeda controls
more territory than ever in Middle East .
By Peter Bergen and Jennifer Rowland
Excerpt: From around Aleppo
in western Syria to small
areas of Falluja in central Iraq ,
al Qaeda now controls territory that stretches more than 400 miles across the
heart of the Middle East , according to English
and Arab language news accounts as well as accounts on jihadist websites.
Indeed, al Qaeda appears to control more territory in the
Arab world than it has done at any time in its history. (Silly story from CNN.
In the last election, Barack "Lead From Behind" Obama assured us he

Excerpt: President Obama became progressively more pessimistic about
prospects for a successful ending to the war in Afghanistan, goaded by
inexperienced White House advisors and a dislike of Afghan
President Hamid Karzai, according to his former Defense
secretary, Robert M. Gates. In a forthcoming memoir that mixes strong
praise with scathing criticism for Obama and his administration,
Gates says Obama doubted his own policy after he decided to send
30,000 more troops to Afghanistan
early in his first term. (As a presidential candidate in 2008, Obama called Afghanistan
"the war we must win." ~Bob)

coming: Bankrupt: How Cronyism &
Corruption Took Down Detroit
Excerpt: Detroit U.S.A. : Once the most prosperous city in America . With a
booming manufacturing sector and cultural magnetism, the city had bright
horizons after World War II. But as the 1960′s rolled in, the marriage of Big
Business and Big Government overtook Detroit .
The central planners in government needed the powerful corporations, and the
powerful corporations came to depend on the bureaucracy, too.
Excerpt: Syria ’s
government said Wednesday that insurgents had assaulted two storage sites for
some of the deadly chemical weapons components it has pledged to eliminate. It
was the first time the Syrian authorities had reported such attacks in the
three months since an international effort began to sequester and purge the
country of the banned munitions.
War on Poverty at 50 -- despite trillions spent, poverty
won. By Michael D. Tanner
Excerpt: If we are losing the War on Poverty, it certainly
isn’t for lack of effort.
In 2012, the federal government spent $668 billion to fund
126 separate anti-poverty programs. State and local governments kicked in
another $284 billion, bringing total anti-poverty spending to nearly $1
trillion. That amounts to $20,610 for every poor person in America , or
$61,830 per poor family of three.
Policies That Discourage Full-Time Work. By Casey B. Mulligan
Excerpt: A higher income tax or payroll tax rate tilts the
balance toward part-time work because it reduces an important benefit of
full-time work: extra income to spend. A lower rate does the opposite.
Fraud still a problem in extended unemployment benefit
programs. By M.D. Kittle
Excerpt: The state and federal unemployment
insurance system has helped a lot of people in need, but it’s also allowed
some ineligible recipients to fraudulently help themselves to the pocketbooks
of businesses and taxpayers. States recorded some $7.7 billion dollars in
improper unemployment insurance payments in
2013, according to the
U.S. Department of Labor.
Possible
Repercussions From Turkey 's
Corruption Scandal. By Abigail R. Esman
Excerpt: On Dec. 17, the Turkish public watched the largest government corruption scandal in their history
unfold before their eyes. Bribery schemes, gold-for oil-trades, and shoe boxes
stuffed with $4.5 million dominated news coverage. Within a week, Prime
Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had fired or reassigned dozens of law-enforcement
officials, and four members of parliament resigned or were dismissed.
Excerpt: Today the Drudge Report covers the Justice
Department’s racialist attack on school discipline policies. The DOJ policy
is based on the idea that school discipline policies are racially
discriminatory because black students comprise a greater percentage of students
disciplined than their percentage in the general population. Call it exceeding
the bad-behavior quota.
Military Brass Immune
to Pension Rate Cuts
Excerpt: In 2007, Congress passed a Pentagon-sponsored
proposal that boosted retirement benefits for three- and four-star admirals and
generals, allowing them to make more in retirement than they did on active
duty. The Pentagon had requested the change in 2003 to help retain senior
officers as the military was fighting wars in Afghanistan
and Iraq
and wanted to entice officers to remain on active duty.(I don't recall ever
reading or hearing about this pension plan for 3 and 4 stars. These are the
officers at the Pentagon who talk to Congress and the Secretary of Defense.
Apparently, they don't believe it's in the interest of the troops they lead to
speak out against the budget deal that reduces enlisted and lower ranking
officer's retired pay. They got theirs and it doesn't affect them. --MasterGuns)

Liberals and some liberal blacks have expressed disdain for the Omaha police in posting the video, claiming it stereotypes blacks and the man’s behavior is an anomaly. But the opposite is true. In DC where I currently live and witness frequently uneducated blacks calling each other and their children the same sorts of heinous names. I have never seen white people talk to each other this way, much less their children. (Black writer I follow. ~Bob)

QUIZ: Match the
Political Scandal to the Apology
ISN’T THAT SPECIAL:
Obama Donor to Head IRS Tea Party Targeting Investigation
Excerpt: The attorney heading the internal investigation
into potential unfair targeting of conservative groups by the IRS is a frequent
and significant donor to both the Democratic National Committee and President
Obama, Rep. Darrell Issa revealed today, in what he calls a ”startling
conflict of interest” that jeopardizes the investigation. (The arrogance is
boundless. --JB).
Department Of
Justice’s Message To Schools: Singling Out Black Students For Poor Behavior Is “Racist”
Excerpt: Obama’s Department of
Justice, under career race-baiter Eric Holder, issued a stark warning for schools across
the country. It’s time to end the “racial disparity” in classrooms. Apparently, it is now “racist” to single out black students for misbehaving in the
classroom. No longer is it acceptable to punish a black student, or other minority student, for
behaviors that would negate suspension or strong disciplinary action. Thus,
this only proves how racist the Department of Justice is in its deliberate
manipulation of school policy.
“The worldwide cancer of terrorism by some Muslims is
inspired by the teachings of Islam. To deny this fact is intellectual
dishonesty.” By Tarek Fatah
Excerpt: While fireworks lit up the New Year sky over much of
the globe, a different type of fire was burning in the Islamic world. Death and
destruction rained down as jihadi terrorists caused mayhem from Mindanao in the
east to Volgograd
in the west.
The Christie Bridge
Closing Scandal. By Jonah Goldberg, the Goldberg file
Worth subscribing to. ~Bob. Excerpt: But forget about the
IRS scandal. Obama's whole shtick is to pretend that he's above politics while
being rankly political about everything, including his stated desire to "punish our enemies." By
comparison, Chris Christie looks like Diogenes and Cincinnatus rolled into one.
From inauguration day forward, this whole crew has behaved like Chicago goons dressed in
Olympian garb, and the press has fallen for it. We don't need to recycle
the whole sordid history of the sequester and the shutdown to remember that
this White House sincerely, deliberately, and with malice aforethought sought
to make things as painful as possible for millions of Americans. Traffic cones
on the George Washington
Bridge are a stain on the honor of New Jersey . (Stop
laughing!) But deliberately pulling air-traffic controllers to screw with
millions of people is just fine? Shafting World War II vets and vacationing
families at National Parks is something only crazy right-wingers on Twitter
would have a problem with? And keep in mind, it is at least plausible Christie
didn't know what his staff was doing. It is entirely implausible that
the president didn't know about the WWII memorial closure, after the news
appeared in the president's daily briefing (a.k.a. the New York Times).
I'd say I just don't get it, but I do get it. For the mainstream media,
skepticism comes naturally when a Republican is in the crosshairs. It comes
reluctantly, slowly, and painfully — if at all— when it's a
Democrat.
Good Column: Chris Christie’s
Accidental Argument For Limited Government (And Against Himself).
By Mollie Hemingway
Excerpt: But I do know this: abuse of power is a completely
expected result of government authority. That goes triple for Chicago , New Jersey
and the federal government. It’s not our fault. As Samuel Johnson’s Imlac said
in “Rasselas,” “No form of government has yet been discovered by which cruelty
can be wholly prevented. Subordination supposes power on the one part, and
subjection on the other, and if power be in the hands of men, it will sometimes
be abused.”
Why Energy Efficiency Does NOT Save Energy. By Peter Glover
Excerpt: For some, the Holy Grail of power is renewable
energy. But energy insiders and anyone who understands the physics of energy
and its basic economics knows that viable renewable energy, with current
technology, remains a pipedream. For others, its radical, social impacting
energy efficiency schemes. But here’s the thing. As noble as the pursuit of
energy efficiency is, the simple fact is that, in the grander scheme of things,
our energy efficiencies do NOT, ultimately, save energy. And here’s why.
State Department names

Excerpt: The State Department on Friday for the first time
blamed specific groups and militants for the 2012 Benghazi attack, designating them as
terrorists -- a move that further undermines initial claims the attack was
spontaneous.
Discovery of Bombs
and Corpses Rattles Tense Caucasus Region
Excerpt: The discovery of several improvised explosive
devices and the bodies of six men shot dead put security forces on higher alert
in the North Caucasus region of Russia on Thursday and added new concerns about
violence ahead of the Olympic Games planned for the nearby resort city of Sochi
next month.
Excerpt: At least 482 people have been killed in clashes
between Syrian rebels and the al-Qaeda-linked Islamist
State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS),
activists say. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the toll comprised
85 civilians, 240 rebels and 157 ISIS
fighters.
Call to Honor
Pakistani Boy in Fatal Tackle of a Bomber
Excerpt: Aitzaz Hasan, a 15-year-old ninth grader, was late
for school and rushing with two friends to make the morning assembly when they
were stopped by a stranger wearing the same uniform as theirs, who curiously
asked for directions. Aitzaz grew suspicious, and tackled the stranger as he
tried to flee. Then the stranger blew himself up, killing them both. (This was

Why People Fail. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: And yet it’s undeniable that some cultures succeed
where others fail.
The left refuses to distinguish between culture and race;
denouncing everything from criticism of Islam to complaints about gang culture
as racist. It treats culture as equivalent to race because it doesn’t believe
that people are capable of change.
Excerpt: The headline unemployment rate fell to 6.7%, the
lowest level in five years. But the rate fell primarily because hundreds of
thousands of people left the workforce unable to find jobs, according to
figures released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor. With 347,000 dropping
out of the workforce, the labor force participation rate, which measures people
actively looking for work, fell to 62.8%, a four-decade low.
