I have been reading a number of "what if" type columns and articles all of which postulated that our current POTUS most probably will get re-elected to a second term in 2012.
Why? Because, nowadays, most politicians are elected because of their "star power." It's almost like winning a beauty contest. That said, the current players in the GOP debates are doing better at shooting themselves in their feet, rather than laying out their vision about how they would plan to get this nation turned around and headed back in the right direction.
Meanwhile, as the GOP candidates skewer each other in debate after debate after debate, etc., they are handing to our sitting POTUS and the DNC all of the ammunition that they need, and then some, to use against the GOP's "winner" to keep on going on all the way to a successful election day.
Our POTUS has been playing the usual DNC tactic of class warfare, while saying in each speech that he maligns the "do nothing Republicans" for not passing his so-called jobs bill. All the way along, he has also not mentioned that his Democratic majority in the U. S. Senate also failed to pass his jobs bill, as well.
Judging from what I have seen and heard, the national news media has also failed to mention this fact in any of their news reports, either. At the same time, polling also has "the Congress" rated worse than the POTUS. This also indicates that he and the DNC may even be rewarded with an increasing number of Democrats in the U. S. Senate, with the real possibility of electing more Democrats to the House with that result possibly being the Democrats wining back their House majority.
Moreover, with no current and continual spokesperson in evidence for the GOP, who has, historically still been regarded as an objective and trusted "messenger," basically, no one in the GOP has stepped up to counter any opposition claims (lies) as an effective - and daily - "fact checker" for the GOP.
The fact that most of the electorate believes that our country is headed in the wrong direction, is usually negated by the current polling that people like this POTUS, as well. As a matter of fact, one young lady - who was a part of the Wall Street "opposition" protestors - was interviewed by a CBS television "reporter" who asked her the question "If she, or anyone else in their group, had similar concerns about the POTUS?" Her answer was "No, we like him and we trust him, too."
From where I sit, the OWS protestors are also saying, in so many words, that only the Government, the POTUS, and a newer Congress can give us everything that we want and deserve. Those comments, I believe, speak volumes on what they - and too many more Americans, as well – really are seeking. They do want all wealth in America to be redistributed to them.
Folks, that says to me that what they want is for this country to quickly and now change from Capitalism to Socialism. I have posed the comment and question going back almost a year ago. It now appears that the Democrats, liberals, "greens," and progressives have succeeded - with almost incredible patience - in "hooking" what now appears to be a slight majority of Americans on the idea that only our government can nurture, protect, and give us all a guaranteed job with a guaranteed income. That's called Socialism.
Quite frankly, the prospect of our current POTUS being re-elected, with the very real prospect of having even more Democrats elected to the Congress, scares the Hell out of me. If that happens, Pogo will have his previous comments validated again, when he said, "We have met the enemy, and he is us."
Regards,
Paul Rendine
Do not agree, at all, with Paul Rendine's analysis nor conclusion. And don't have time to write the counter. But citing an OWS'er wrecks the argument. My random polling of complete strangers, as unscientific as it may be, indicates Mr. O has no chance of reelection. And I live in California. Go figure.
