Random Thoughts for February
2020
By Robert A. Hall
Feel free to post or forward.
You should see more clearly this year.
It’s an election year. Soon the wailing over money in
politics will start. They won’t note that Americans spend ten times as much on cigarettes
as on political campaigns. Look it up.
At a meeting of the Veterans’ Advisory Board at the VA, I
heard that, depending on whose numbers you use, medical errors kill between
250,000 and 440,000 Americans every year. That’s why my VA pushes “Safety
First” to staff, hard, every day. Medical errors are the third leading cause of
death in the United States. One hospital admission in a thousand results in
death.
If you wonder why your local VA looks a bit shabby, the
average age of VA buildings is 70 years. Of private hospital buildings, 15
years. Congress has to have money to send to Hamas, you know. And give
healthcare to illegals.
The easiest way to get my dog to eat a treat is to throw it
to the cat. Works with many people too.
If you want to offend Democrats in your neighborhood, fly
the American flag. You will notice there are no flags when Democrats debate—the
flag offends their base.
Some people act like drugs or alcohol are some evil force
that came in and took over their lives, with no action or volition on their
part.
Never argue with a man crazed with romantic or political
passions. I speak from experience.
It’s okay to be a bigot as long as you make slurs and
discriminate against the right groups: White people, Asian people, Jewish
People, Christian people.
Muslim countries don’t take in Muslim refugees. They create
them.
My goal is to be despised and denounced by all “Right
Thinking People.”
I’m looking forward to technology putting the cable
companies out of business.
Burning, spitting on, or disrespecting the flag veterans
fought for and their brothers died for is hate speech.
I’m at an age and level of infirmity where I need help
often. I hate that; I prefer to be the one giving help.
The young man who does not have what it takes to perform
military service is unlikely to have what it takes to make a living. --JFK
Human bodies are both fragile
and resilient.
Better to invest in your brains
(if you have any) than in your appearance or physical abilities. Brains last
longer.
Boozers are losers. (I’m
probably the ten millionth person to have this “original thought.”)
If you are
foolish enough to buy drugs like Viagra on the Internet, there’s a very high
probability they are fake. They won’t do you any good and may do you harm. And
you are supporting criminal networks who are also likely to be in trafficking of
slaves, arms, and drugs like heroin.
In life as in
war, the easy way is often a trap.
If you see
something you like for sale on Facebook, check Amazon first. Found an item that
was $40 on Facebook for $16 on Amazon.
Marine Friend
MGuns John Lewis says if the Democrat mayor of Milwaukee is worried about
security for the Democratic National Convention, he should just post “gun free
zone” signs.
You can’t take
back an unkind word. Alas, I know from recent experience.
Be careful
putting on your breaks at a yellow light. The guy behind you may be gunning it
to shoot through the red and slam into your ass-end.
In our Little
Free Library, in a nearby Free Pantry, and, alas, in life, more is taken than
given.
You cannot
live for the dead.
You cannot
domesticate a rattlesnake. Or some people.
If wishing
worked, a lot of people would be dead.
I’m 73. My
body feels 83. My brain feels 40. But in my heart, I’m still a 21-year-old
Marine stud in Vietnam with a rifle and an attitude.
If today’s progressives
had been around in 1942, they would have excoriated FDR for the Doolittle Raid,
saying he was “provoking war.”
We have far
more diversity in our church than Democrats have in the presidential
candidates.
Now days I
couldn’t run if someone was shooting at me.
People think
they have a lot of friends when actually they have a lot of acquaintances.
Being
soft-hearted doesn’t mean you have to be soft-headed.
Every time
the Palestinians are offered peace, they say no. Why can’t people see they don’t
want peace, they want to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews. First.
There are
expected disappointments (not winning the lottery) and unexpected disappointments
(a surprise company closing). Be prepared to weather both.
If you are
going to vote Democrat in November, you might take your IRA/401k password with
you to save time.
