Random Thoughts for December 2020

Random Thoughts for December 2020

Robert A. Hall

Feel free to post or forward.

Health update: I’ve been about the same. Weight around 150, hard to get down the 2500 calories I try for each day. FEV numbers have been better. The osteo people tell me my bone density is better, but I have cracks in my left ribs, probably from the lung removal 6/6. Still very tired, sleeping 10-11 hours a day. My surgeon thinks if they can get me off the anti-fungal I’m taking since the lung removal, that will improve.

Been slammed lately. In one six-day period I did six My Life, My Story interviews with vets by phone. This means I have to delete a lot of the hundred emails I get everyday unopened. As of this writing, I’ve done 365 stories.

December 1. 90% of our Christmas shopping is done, 90& of the Holiday newsletters sent out, tree up and decorated, most outside decorations are up.

If you expect things to get better after January 21, 2021, I wish you luck.

It feels like Americans have been fighting a rear-guard action for decades. If we hold the senate, the we can fight on.

For the last four years, those in the Cult of Hillary have been shouting “steal.” For the next four years, those in the Cult of Trump will be shouting “steal.”

I notice the adult half of the country didn’t riot, loot and burn after the networks called the election for Biden.

If Jesse Jackson says sex is racist, the liberals will die out.

I though after the election the fund-raising emails, calls, and text messages would drop off. Silly me.

I cannot get used to men wearing ballcaps at the table in restaurants. If my DI came in and saw me eating with a “cover” on, he’d beat me to death!

Tee shirt: I had my patience tested. I’m negative.

I’ve decided to live in the past. Things were nicer then.

Using the My Healthy Vet to send messages to the VA feels like using a secret decoder ring when I was a kid.

I notice that all the Muslim extreme regimes are celebrating Biden.

“It’s amusing to see people swoon over Biden, particularly if one has long regarded him as a grinning intellectual mediocrity with a core so hollow it could be rented out to recreational spelunkers.” –James Lileks

Few things terrify me like a package that says, “Easy open.”

“The UN is not so much the United Nations, but the union, or assembled governments, many of which are brutal tyrannies.” – Alexandr Solzhenitsyn. Quoted in National Review.

After January 20, will it be okay to sniff little girls’ hair again?

There is no use getting mad at a friend or relative for voting the wrong way. Neither of your votes would have changed the outcome.

Man: God, when will I die?

God: Hadn’t thought about it. Would today be good for you?

You cannot judge the people of the past by the standards of todays. Chances are if you had been born the scion of a Virginia plantation owner in 1840, you would have worn gray and ridden with Jeb Stewart. We are all products of our times, experience and genetic makeup.

I think “a while” should be a compound word.

Call me a cynic, but I find it hard to believe folks are spending millions on TV ads because they want to save me money.

I’ve been up to the max 5000 followers on Facebook our times now. Each time I go on and delete anyone I don’t know, who has less than three mutual friends. I can never get to the bottom of the list. Somewhere around 3500 Facebook throws up a roadblock and I’m back to the start.

“Much of academic life has become a Field of Dreams for the nutty.” -- Joseph Epstein

There is an excess of certitude and a dearth of humility on both sides of the political divide.

From a novel by Brad Thor: “The United States is cutting its own throat with a politically correct knife.”

Lesson: You can’t just turn out your base.

If you think the nastiness between Trump and Biden supporters is bad, you should read what partisans of the other guy said about Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams.

National Review: Oregon has become the meth lab of democracy.

If Trump’s “Operation Warp Speed” produces an effective vaccination for COVID, will progressives refuse it?

“In the 2020 campaign, the media did not so much cover the Biden campaign, they were the Biden campaign.” Charles C. Cook

I've often said that, if Christian terrorists hijacked 4 airliners in any Moslem country, flying them into important public buildings and killing thousands of Moslems, every Christian in that (and every) Moslem country would promptly have been beaten, looted, raped and murdered and every Christian home and business and church (if they let them exist there in the first place) would be burned. So any anti-Muslim acts in this country since 9/11 are extremely mild, rare and restrained. -PM

Liberals Want You Demoralized, So Don’t Be

Liberals Want You Demoralized, So Don’t Be

Excerpt: The next guy who tells me his sad feelz are so intense over the election that he’s not going to vote in Georgia or anywhere else ever again cuz all is lost and blah blah blah is getting slapped. Hard. I’m getting tired of loser talk, and I won’t have it. This is for the benefit of the weak-hearts: Oh no, did you have a set-back? Did stuff not work out the way you wanted? Is it – gasp! – hard? Too bad. Man up. Or woman up. Or genderfluid up. Just stop bawling like Brian Stelter over his cousins when he gets passed a bowl of mashed potatoes and get your head right. We’re in a fight. Fix your bayonets and follow me over the top.

Letter to the Wisconsin State journal:

Socialism always leads to coercion -- Robert Hall

Letter to the Wisconsin State journal:
I read with amusement Sunday's letter to the editor, "Americans should embrace socialism." Clearly the letter writer has lived and enjoyed the fruits of free markets in a capitalist country and never lived in a truly socialist country. Socialism always starts with golden promises and ends with bloody coercion. See Venezuela, praised by Bernie Sanders a few years ago as a place where the American dream was being worked out. People point to the Scandinavian countries, but they are not really socialist. They are free-market democracies with large social welfare programs, paid for by individual taxes. High business taxes would drive jobs out of the county. Under socialism and communism, people have to be coerced to do things the leaders think is good for them.

FBI’s 2019 “Hate Crime” Statistics Show Islamophobia Decreases Again

FBI’s 2019 “Hate Crime” Statistics Show Islamophobia Decreases Again

Excerpt: Once again, despite the fake news media and terror-linked CAIR reporting every sneeze near a mosque as a hate crime, there were fewer incidents, offenses and victims of anti-Islamic hate crimes in 2019 - a decrease of more than 6%. That’s coupled with a growing Muslim population. Conversely, hate crime attacks on Christians rose nearly 20% and hate crimes against Jews increased more than 14%  - with Jews 5x more often a hate crime victim than Muslims.

Blinded by a Blizzard of Data

Blinded by a Blizzard of Data

Excerpt: There are lies, damned lies, and statistics. While this warning is never terribly far from the political surface, it should be axiomatic whenever anyone starts talking about Covid data. It has been years since a common pool of data has been so thoroughly mishandled by all sides, and this is sure to continue at least until a vaccine has been developed and delivered. The surest sign that someone is playing fast and loose with statistics in order to push a particular point of view is the absence of context. And regardless of one’s position on the need for Covid lockdowns, one thing is clear: since the outset, the media have quoted Covid statistics with a consistent absence of context. The result has been to turn people who believe Covid is a significant danger into quivering cowards, and to cause people who believe Covid isn’t all that dangerous to dismiss the warnings entirely. [One of the things I look to AIER for is making sense of statistics because that’s what they do for a living. They’ve done a wonderful job of it with this piece. Read, and you will understand recent history (and the news media) better than you do now. I added emphasis. Ron P.]

Big Tech Rigs an Election

 Big Tech Rigs an Election

Excerpt: Whatever the result of the 2020 presidential election, we can’t say Robert Epstein didn’t warn us. Robert who? you ask. Exactly. Epstein, a Democrat, is also a Harvard-educated behavioral psychologist and the former editor-in-chief of Psychology Today. He’s also the guy who long ago sounded the alarm about the threat posed to our republican form of government by Google and its Big Tech brethren. None of this comes as a surprise to our Mark Alexander, who’s been following Dr. Epstein’s work for years. In mid-2019, Epstein testified before Congress, and the substance of his testimony lent support to what every fair-minded person who’s ever done a politics-related Google search has long suspected: “Data I’ve collected since 2016 show that Google displays content to the American public that is biased in favor of one political party — a party I happen to like, but that’s irrelevant. … Democracy as originally conceived, cannot survive Big Tech as currently empowered.” Too bad no one on Capitol Hill took him seriously. {We all saw it, many complained about it, but nobody did anything to stop it. So, who do we blame for it, now? How do we prevent it in the future? Change Section 230! Ron P.]

A discussion with an officer from back in September.  The respect I have for this man and the others like him is enormous... and my sympathy with the frustration they must feel all the time.  A lot of people should watch this.

Media Suppression of 8 Key Stories 'Stole This Election' for Joe Biden

 https://pjmedia.com/election/tyler-o-neil/2020/11/24/explosive-study-media-suppression-of-8-key-stories-stole-this-election-for-joe-biden-n1170347

Media Suppression of 8 Key Stories 'Stole This Election' for Joe Biden

BY TYLER O'NEIL NOV 24, 2020
According to an explosive new study the Media Research Center (MRC) released on Tuesday, the legacy media’s suppression of eight key election-related news stories effectively handed the presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden. According to a poll conducted by The Polling Company on behalf of MRC, a whopping 17 percent of Americans who voted for Joe Biden would not have done so had they been aware of just one of these stories. (I have often explained to high school kids in discussions about how our system works that democracy works best when the informed electorate go to the polls, understanding reasonably well what the issues are and what the candidates represent.  The responsiblity of the media in a democracy is to provide full and balanced information to the people.  When the media misinform the people, the voters make their decisions based on bad data, and that leads to a bad outcome. And guess what?  We've just had the perfect example of that!  These data are enough to make a person cry..... or scream in rage. --Del)

Is America doomed to split apart

Is America doomed to split apart

EXCERPT: In a situation like we are in today, with America polarized and the Establishment and its serfs dedicated to an agenda of oppression aimed directly at the patriot faction – oddly, the people who are so eager to rule this country also tend to hate this country – can we even survive as a nation? Should we? (Non-fiction reflection of the author of the Kelly Turnbull novels about the chances of America splitting apart. --Bill)

Newsom

 https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/18/us/newsom-california-covid-french-laundry.html?searchResultPosition=2

Dear Sirs:
California Governor Gavin Newsom is being pilloried as a hypocrite, and rightly so, for not following his own Coronavirus guidelines while dining at an exclusive French restaurant. But here is another way to look at it: Governor Newsom valued a special dining experience with friends and colleagues more than the possibility of catching the virus, very small, and if he did catch it that he would become very sick and possibly die, even smaller. In other words, he made a personal decision based upon his personal risk assessment. Fine with me as long as all the rest of us riff raff, wherever we may live, can do the same.  The Al-Qaeda Leader Elimination in Tehran Embarrasses Iran

Excerpt: Arch-Terrorist Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, also known by the name Mohammad al-Masri, a leading member of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group, was assassinated, apparently by Israeli agents, in Tehran, Iran, at the request of the U.S., or more specifically the CIA. The timing of the revelation was aimed to embarrass the radical Shiite-Muslim Iranian regime, just as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) was about to deliberate on renewing the embargo against Iran. Moreover, exposing the fact that the Ayatollahs of Iran sheltered a leading al-Qaeda terrorist implicated in the 9/11 terrorist attack on the U.S. and other terrorist operations, should have given the UNSC pause to think about it. The Iranian regime, keeping the secret of harboring a notorious Sunni-Muslim, whose al-Qaeda organization targeted and murdered fellow Shite-Muslims, was bound to outrage many ordinary Iranians.

Powerful system controlling cultural institutions tries to impose far-left agenda on US

Newt Gingrich: Powerful system controlling cultural institutions tries to impose far-left agenda on US

Excerpt: Last week Senate Republicans released a supplement to their recent report on Hunter’s Biden’s overseas business dealings. The five-page addendum shows millions of dollars in wire transfers further tying Joe Biden’s son to the Chinese government. I bring this up not to focus on Hunter or Joe Biden, but rather to note that if this story was about one of President Trump’s sons, then it would be on the front page of every major newspaper. But it was hardly covered, because the left-wing media are overwhelmingly hostile to the president — as are the social media companies that now have nearly monopolistic control over the flow of information. (...) Of course, the liberal media and Big Tech are also hostile to Republicans and conservatives in general, not just to Trump. Add academia, Hollywood, and the majority of political elites to the mix, and you have the ingredients for a powerful system in control of our cultural institutions, trying to impose a radical, far-left agenda on the American people.

BLM Co-Founder Calls on Biden to Back a Crazy Progressive 'Civil Rights' Bill

Read over what this BLM leader (and proud Marxist) really believes in and wants to make happen.  Check out the details of removing from law enforcement every single tool other than (oddly) firearms and batons, and even body cameras.  (Why in hell would you NOT want body cameras to document exactly what went on?)  She really believes in the perfection of human beings, so there will be no need for police or jails, and no jail will exist within 10 years.

One has to wonder what she thinks will happen in places like Chicago, where many hundreds of Black people die every year from Black-on-Black violence, if there are no police and no jails.  One has to wonder how she can walk and talk like an intelligent person and believe so passionately in utter fantasy.  And she is demanding a meeting with Biden and Harris to collect on the "debt" they owe to BLM for getting them elected.  (Allegedly, that is- personally I don't believe that BLM somehow convinced huge numbers of Black people to vote for Biden who otherwise would have either voted for Trump or not voted at all.  The Black vote has gone 95% to Democrats from before she was born, and in this election more Blacks voted GOP than ever before.)

I can hardly wait to hear about the meeting she is demanding and what Biden and Harris will promise her.

What Schools Should Teach About Race & Slavery - The Jewish Press - JewishPress.com

https://www.jewishpress.com/headline/what-schools-should-teach-about-race-slavery/2020/11/20/?utm_source=Hoover+Daily+Report&utm_campaign=9ae15da4f1-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_11_20_07_40&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_21b1edff3c-9ae15da4f1-72863337

Except: So, then, what should American schools teach about race?

They should, of course, teach students about slavery and racism. But, if truth and moral clarity are to matter, students must also learn that slavery was universal. They would therefore learn about Muslim-Arab slavery, slavery among Africans, slavery among Native Americans and Native South Americans, and slavery in Asia and India.

They would learn that it was the West – beginning with England and America – that abolished slavery. And they would learn that the abolitionists were overwhelmingly religious Christians, animated by the Bible and Judeo-Christian values.

They would learn that, unlike the slaves under Arab-Muslim rule, most black slaves in America were allowed to have children and form families. They would read Herbert Gutman’s The Black Family in Slavery and Freedom, 1750-1925, about which The New York Times wrote when it was published in 1976: “Gutman has performed an immense service in burying the idea that slavery destroyed the black family.” For the record, Gutman was a professor of the left and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

They would learn that the tens of millions of African slaves under Islamic-Arab rule were not allowed to form families (most males were castrated). They would learn that while about 340,000 African slaves were transported to America, 12 million were transported to Brazil.

They would learn that far more blacks – about three million from Africa and the Caribbean – have come to America willingly than came as slaves.

Women's sports

Interesting in that it's a female presenting clear, factual evidence that women do not have the same physical capabilities as men.  Maybe the people in Congress and elsewhere who insist women can be in combat infantry should have to watch this.  Several times.

The Trump CT Scanner

 The Trump CT Scanner

Donald Trump has forced elites to reveal to the nation what they were—and perhaps had always been. And the resulting penetrating imagery showed their own malignancy.

Total dissection of TDS. And what all this has revealed about the people who used to be "Liberals" (when that meant prizing Free Speech, respect for others, open dialogue, compromise, courtesy, and sticking to the ideals of openness and honesty). What are the simplest contrasts between Left and Right today? Left- "speech we don't like is HATE SPEECH" and we can shout it down Right- I may hate what you say but defend to the death your right to say it Left- when we don't get what we want, we demonstrate with great vigor, and if that brings on violence, property damage, and looting, that's just how it goes Right- there is never any excuse for violence, destroying property, or looting Left- when Biden is in power, we need to go after all the people who supported Trump, worked for Trump, etc, and expose them, penalize them, make sure they suffer for their crimes Right- once Trump took power, no one said a word about going after anyone who worked for Obama No one is boarding up their business in fear of the Right Wing crowd coming through the streets to smash businesses and light up police stations.  Maybe there's some meaning there? Everyone with a clear mind at all can see what today's Left has become.  Heaven help us when they are in power.--Del

White Fragility Training and Freedom of Belief

A very interesting discussion of the topic.  (Note: the magazine has authors from the UK contributing, which is why you see an odd looking date on this article- in the US that would be 6/26/20)

The writer makes a really excellent case for that freedom of belief means or should mean, and how pushing what amounts to a particular view of the way people interact violates it.

White Fragility Training and Freedom of Belief

Karma

 Karma

The video you are about to watch will be the most satisfying minute and twenty seconds that you will spend today, at least as far as politics go.  It is labeled "instant karma," and that is the perfect title.  I am very tempted to label the man who grabs the Trump banner, speeds off, and immediately crashes into a light pole an insulting body part, but his self-righteous suppression of the "visual speech" of Trump-supporters makes that obvious. The best part is the immediate appearance of a police cruiser, and the officer being informed that it is all recorded.  This may be ten days old, but it will never get old for me.
I recommend viewing this with whatever beverage gives you comfort appropriate to the time of day.  Just don't have your mouth full when you hit "play.

The Trump CT Scanner

 The Trump CT Scanner

Excerpt: These lists of liberal would-be list makers could be expanded, but again they have reminded us that it is not we conservative maniacs, but they, the caring left-wing folk, who wish to destroy the lives of people with whom they disagree. Arch-Trump critic, CNN moralist, and now “ruined” Jeffrey Toobin, author of the True Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Investigation of Donald Trump, was until recently best remembered for suggesting that the life of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should be destroyed (“If you sexually assault someone in high school, your life should be ruined”). Although now Toobin himself has been fired from The New Yorker for exposing himself and masturbating while on camera during a Zoom video conference on “election simulation.” Perhaps Toobin became too excited, in his rhapsodic distaste for Trump, to refrain from what used to be called in most states the “true” crime of “indecent exposure” that requires, inter alia, inclusion on a sex-offender registry for up to 10 years. (...) In our new ecumenical creed, inciting division to promote “unity” means calling nearly 73 million American voters liars, haters, and dividers. [Hanson has pulled no punches in this piece. Worth reading. Ron P.]

Tax filings reveal Biden cancer charity spent millions on salaries, zero on research

OK, you start a charity with an obviously great goal, more and better cancer research.  You raise almost $5MM in donations based on your name and.... pay out 64% of the money salaries and another 20% on travel and conferences.  And 0% on any grants to researchers.  The group's president was paid $650K in the two years, and one really has to ask what in hell he was doing that made him worth that compensation when the charity was not handing out a dime to anyone to get some work done. If this is how Joe and his wife allow things to be run after lending their names and prestige to what is supposed to be a charity doing good works, I am extremely nervous about what the future holds for federal spending. --Del

Even a Military-Enforced Quarantine Can’t Stop the Virus, Study Reveals

Even a Military-Enforced Quarantine Can’t Stop the Virus, Study Reveals

Excerpt: The reputation of Marine basic training is that it is tough going but this really does take it to another level. All respect for those who volunteered for this! Also, this is an environment where those in charge do not mess around. There was surely close to 100% compliance, as compared with, for example, a typical college campus. What were the results? Incredibly, 2% of the CHARM recruits still contracted the virus, even if all but one remained asymptomatic. “Our study showed that in a group of predominantly young male military recruits, approximately 2% became positive for SARS-CoV-2, as determined by qPCR assay, during a 2-week, strictly enforced quarantine.” And how does this compare to the control group that was not subjected to the strict regime? [You’ve got to read this article based on a study published days ago in the New England Journal of Medicine for yourself. If I simply tell you, you won’t believe it. Ron P.]

Book recommendation

1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann

https://smile.amazon.com/1491-Revelations-Americas-Before-Columbus/dp/1400032059/ref=sr_1_1?crid=28KR54ZLGAI3J&dchild=1&keywords=1491+new+revelations+of+the+americas+before+columbus&qid=1605382721&s=books&sprefix=1491%2Caps%2C188&sr=1-1

Reading this terrific book should be worth three college credits in archology or anthropology. It was long, but I couldn’t put it down. The author is a writer, not an academic, so not given to turgid prose and with no agenda axe to grind. When I was in school, the “settled science” was that the Indians arrived in north America via the land bridge from Siberia. (Mann calls them Indians because that is what he says they mostly call themselves.) He reports research that places them here much earlier. The book also destroys several other myths. There were great cities in the Americas to rival anything Europe had, through only Cahokia is north of the Rio Grande. Everyone knows about the Maya, the Inka and the Aztec. There were other empires that rose and fell before the first Europeans arrived with their diseases. Many fell to conquest by other Indian empires. The Indians were colonialist conquers as much as the European, Asians, etc. Others appear to have fallen victim to climate change—without SUVs! “Super El Ninos” in the Pacific caused droughts that lasted for years. Cahokia seems to have ben a victim of it’s own success, with expending crop areas changing the climate and causing drought. This book is well worth reading.

Georgia

 https://townhall.com/columnists/kurtschlichter/2020/11/12/go-on-the-offensive-in-georgia-n2579878

EXCERPT: The Georgia Team now knows the Democrats’ moves. It needs to file multiple lawsuits within the next couple weeks and start demanding remedies for these abuses. It further needs to be organizing a massive poll watcher contingent to observe – and to have orders in hand before election day that they be allowed to observe properly. Also, we need court orders barring any more “Uh, we stopped counting tonight” shenanigans. Further, they should absolutely demand a court order allowing GOP experts a chance to review the Dominion election machine software to ensure they are no surprises therein. How can Democrats be against this transparency if they have nothing to hide?
