Dearborn man captured in Syria charged in terror case
His family is claiming that he was misled. That is their only possible recourse, as otherwise they would have to admit that the Islamic State ideology is spreading in Dearborn. And that could lead to an investigation. --Robert Spencer

Powder Keg Paris: As a devastating report reveals 300,000 illegal migrants are living in one French suburb... ANDREW MALONE explores the tensions in a community at odds with mainstream society
France is already screwed, there's no way they can deal with this, it can only keep getting worse now. Far, far too late to come up with any remedy that the society would support. (Like the army going in there with full divisions, tanks, gunships, forcing everyone out and into processing and everyone lacking full French ID is off to a nice camp until they get on a plane or boat to take them back somewhere. Nothing less will work, and they won't do it.) Situations like this exist elsewhere too, notably Sweden. --Del

Patient Centered Care?

DOCTORS INTERRUPT PATIENTS, STOP LISTENING AFTER 11 SECONDS ON AVERAGE, STUDY SAYS
Excerpt: octors only spend 11 seconds on average listening to patients before interrupting them, according to a new study. A team of scientists from the United States and Mexico studied clinical encounters between patients and physicians to test shared decision-making tools. Published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, the scientists learned of the lack of attention many doctors provide their patients. “Our results suggest that we are far from achieving patient-centered care,” Naykky Singh Ospina, an author on the study, said in a release published Thursday. The scientists analyzed 112 recorded meetings between doctors and patients at general practices in Minnesota and Wisconsin, including at the Mayo Clinic and its affiliated clinics. The scientists learned doctors only spent 11 seconds on average listening to a patient describe their reasons for visiting before interrupting. The team only counted how long it took a doctor to interrupt if the doctor first said something like “What can I do for you today?” or “Tell me what brings you in today,” allowing the patients to set the agenda of the conversation.

Inside my nightmare working in de Blasio’s government

Inside my nightmare working in de Blasio’s government
A social-justice lawyer who worked for both Michael Bloomberg and Bill de Blasio opens up about the ongoing failures of the current mayor.
Excerpt: When Bill de Blasio became mayor of New York in 2014, things changed drastically. I started to hear rumblings early on. My former colleagues who were dedicated public servants were concerned by a large-scale rollback of Bloomberg’s strategic initiatives. These seemed to be based on partisan politics and black-and-white thinking as opposed to critical analysis. It was very disappointing for me since I had also voted for de Blasio. Although I was still working in the same social-services agency where I had remained at the end of Bloomberg’s term, my job changed radically. I had no contact with the new commissioner who appeared to be disengaged from substantive discussions about social-services programs for an extremely vulnerable population. In fact, she was much more preoccupied with renovating her office — I heard her new desk alone cost thousands of dollars. She even requested that a private bathroom be built for her. She had the attitude of an oligarch and was disturbed that she had to vet invitations to galas through legal and City Hall. She wanted carte blanche to attend expensive events.

America’s Next Civil War Will Be Worse Than Our Last

America’s Next Civil War Will Be Worse Than Our Last
Excerpt: In the summer of 1862, just weeks before the Battle of Sharpsburg (or Antietam) — the bloodiest single day of fighting in American history — Union Captain George Armstrong Custer attended the wedding of Confederate Captain John “Gimlet” Lea at Bassett Hall in Williamsburg, Virginia, as best man. The Union officer was dressed in blue, the Confederate officer in grey, and Custer being Custer spent the next two weeks flirting with the Southern belle cousin of the bride, even joining her in singing “Dixie.” At one point she told him, “You ought to be in our army.” “What would you give me if I resigned my commission in the Northern army and joined the Southern?” “You are not in earnest, are you?” He wasn’t, of course. Custer was nothing if not loyal, and he believed that he was bound to the Union by the oath he had sworn at West Point, whatever his affection for Southern officers and their ladies. Such gallantry seems unthinkable today, when members of the Trump administration are hounded from restaurants and theatres, and Confederate officers like John Lea, if they are remembered at all, are considered precursors of the German National Socialists, and their once famous and respected commanders like Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jeb Stuart have their statues toppled and banished from public squares, their names stripped from public schools, and their memories spat upon and disgraced. The difference between the America of today and the America of what seems like just yesterday is that we once had a common culture. As recently as 1990, Ken Burns could make a Civil War documentary for PBS and let historian Shelby Foote wax eloquent on the martial prowess of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest — something that now would likely get them both tarred, feathered, and Twitter-banned. (How much more Liberal everyone was back at the Civil War How can I say that? Because real liberalism, or in my own mind, real Americanism, means staying civilized, respectful of others, tolerant of differences, open to discussion, and staying away from hateful behaviors. But we all know how things are today... and it's so very, very tragic. --Del)

Debt

Before your readers take on student loan debt for grad school, they should know how much debt and income they could have with their new degree. Until now, that information has been difficult to come by. Using our proprietary data we analyzed 91,000 student loan borrowers with graduate degrees to reveal which degrees carry the most student loan debt in relation to income after graduation.

I thought you’d appreciate this new analysis from Credible because you’ve touched on student loan debt in the past.

Here are a few highlights:
  • Dentists take out the most in student loans (a whopping median of $236,739!).
  • Veterinarians and optometrists devote the highest percentage of their income to student loans.
  • Computer scientists, MBA holders, and nurses allocate the smallest proportion of their monthly earnings to pay down their student loan debt.
It would be really interesting to see how your audience would respond to that. Will you let me know what you think of the results? :)

If you’re interested, I can send you the embed codes to all the charts :)

Thanks,

Danish imam charged over call to kill Jews
Excerpt: Danish prosecutors on Tuesday charged an imam with calling for the killing of Jews in the first case of its kind in the Nordic nation and which sparked political outrage. Imam Mundhir Abdallah, who preaches in the Copenhagen neighbourhood of Norrebro at the Masjid Al-Faruq mosque, which media have linked to radical Islam, is accused of citing a hadith or koranic narrative calling for Muslims to rise up against Jews. "Judgement Day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them," Abdallah said in a Facebook and YouTube video post in March.

Is it possible to have an economic model which enables the fair distribution of wealth?

Is it possible to have an economic model which enables the fair distribution of wealth?
Excerpt: We already have that. It’s called capitalism.

If my skills allow me to make $10 per hour, and your skills allow you to make $100 per hour, then a capitalist system allows both of us to earn the maximum amount of wealth that we are able to.

That’s literally the most fair distribution of wealth. No limits. No ceilings. I got my $10, you got your $100, and neither of us were limited by anything but our own individual abilities. It doesn’t get any more fair than that.

If you’re talking about a system where I get some of your $100, that isn’t a fair system at all. You earned that $100. I didn’t. There’s no scenario where it’s “fair” for me to take money out of your pocket and put it into mine.

Jewish man, 69, attacked in Paris by assailant shouting about Allah and Hitler

Excerpt: A 69-year-old Jewish man wearing a kippah was assaulted in Paris by a young Arab man who shouted about Allah and Hitler. In Tuesday’s incident, the alleged assailant hit the Jewish man, pushed him to the ground and dragged him by his hair while shouting “Alla hu akbar, long live Hitler, death to the Jews,” the National Bureau for Vigilance Against Anti-Semitism, or BNVCA, wrote in a statement Wednesday. The call in Arabic means “Allah is the greatest.” Police apprehended the suspected assailant, the report said. A police physician recommended transferring the suspect to a psychiatric institution for observation because he was in a “state of over-excitement,” according to the information received by BNVCA.

10-year-old Somali girl dies after female genital mutilation
Excerpt: About 98 percent of women and girls in the Horn of Africa nation undergo female genital mutilation, according to the United Nations. While Somalia's constitution prohibits the practice, Mohamed said no laws have been enacted to ensure that those who perform the circumcisions are punished. Lawmakers are "afraid of losing their political clout among the all-powerful conservative traditional and religious groups bent at retaining the practice," she said. (It's not child abuse. Teaching Islam in School

Combining the Leftism of big city municipalities with the indoctrination of the public education workforce, it is no surprise that is an increasingly common imposition in public school systems. Black Slaves, Muslim Masters

Black Slaves, Muslim Masters
Excerpt: Arabs and Muslims have black slaves today and hardly anyone, especially the leftist class which preens about its devotion to human rights, is screaming about this. In five African nations — Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Nigeria, and Sudan — blacks serve Arab/Muslim masters. They are bought and sold like furniture. They are worked until they drop, tortured, raped, forcibly converted to Islam, and murdered. This has been going on for many years, but it only occasionally makes today’s headlines.

E.U. Courts New Partners With Japan Trade Deal

E.U. Courts New Partners With Japan Trade Deal
Excerpt: On Tuesday in Tokyo, it signed its largest trade deal ever, a pact with Japan that will slash customs duties on products like European wine and cheese, while gradually reducing tariffs on cars. The agreement will cover a quarter of the global economy — by some measures the largest free-trade area in the world — and is the latest in a string of efforts either concluded or in the works with countries like Australia, Vietnam and even China. The deal with Japan, and the others being negotiated, point to a more assertive Europe, one that is looking past the frosty ties with the United States, and even the coming withdrawal of Britain from the bloc. In recent months, European Union leaders have voiced ever more confident support for free trade, refusing to back down in the face of the threat of tariffs from Washington and instead aggressively courting new relationships. But no matter how many barriers to international commerce the European Union manages to tear down, its leaders will not change one economic fact of life: The United States remains the Continent’s largest trading partner. There is no escaping the damage from Mr. Trump’s campaign against imports like cars and steel. (Nature abhors a vacuum. ~Bob)

Immigrants Change Cultures

Immigrants Change Cultures --- Whether New Yorkers in Florida or Latinos in America. By Dennis Prager July 17,2018 http://www.jewishworldreview.com/0718/prager071718.php3
Our first "progressive" president (and first Progressive Party candidate) favored immigration according to the following principle: Theodore Roosevelt “In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”
Yours truly, Larry Greenberg

Trump Faces Bipartisan Criticism over Putin Summit
Excerpt: "Russia is not our friend. Russia attempted to undermine the fundamentals of our democracy, impugn the reliability of the 2016 election, and sow the seeds of discord among Americans. Our intelligence community, including the current one, concluded this, as did the Majority House Intelligence Committee report, as did our fellow Americans who served on grand juries which returned true bills on two separate occasions,” House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., said in a statement, urging administration officials to “communicate to the President it is possible to conclude Russia interfered with our election in 2016 without delegitimizing his electoral success." ... "U.S.–Russia relations remain at a historic low for one simple reason: Vladimir Putin is a committed adversary of the United States. In the last few years alone, Russia meddled in our presidential campaign, violated arms-control treaties with the United States, invaded Ukraine, assassinated political opponents in the United Kingdom, made common cause with Iran in propping up Bashar al-Assad’s outlaw regime in Syria, and cheated not only in the Olympics, but even in the Paralympics. These are not the actions of a friend, an ally, or merely a nation with aligned interests. Until Russian behavior changes, our policy should not change. The United States should stay on the strategic offensive against Russia by maintaining sanctions, rebuilding our military, modernizing our nuclear forces, expanding missile defenses, sending more weapons to our allies, and producing more oil and gas. Strength is the one language for which Vladimir Putin needs no interpreter," U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).

Jonah Goldberg: Trump's deference to Putin is less about collusion than character

Jonah Goldberg: Trump's deference to Putin is less about collusion than character
Excerpt: During a joint news appearance with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump demonstrated that, when put to the test, he cannot see any issue through a prism other than his grievances and ego. In a performance that should elicit some resignations from his administration, the president sided with Russia over America’s national security community, including Dan Coats, the Trump-appointed director of national intelligence. Days ago, Coats issued a blistering warning that not only had Russia meddled in our election — undisputed by almost everyone save the president himself — but that it is preparing to do so again. But when asked about Russian interference in Helsinki, Trump replied, “All I can do is ask the question. My people came to me, Dan Coats came to me and some others. They said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin. He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this. I don’t see any reason why it would be [Russia]. ... I have confidence in both parties.”
