Defending Slavery

Georgetown, Slavery, and the Riots in Sweden. By WILLIAM KILPATRICK
Excerpt: Two years ago, Georgetown University made a show of repenting of its past connections to slavery by renaming two buildings whose namesakes had once sold slaves. It might be expected then that when a Georgetown faculty member defends slavery, not just online, but in the course of a ninety-minute lecture, the reaction would be swift and severe. We would expect that the wayward academic would be relieved of his duties and sentenced to a re-education program, or else be fired outright.(Who would ever have thought of a professor at a nominally Catholic college, one that took on an enormous boatload of shame over having owned slaves nearly two centuries ago (when it was as normal a practice as there was regardless of how horrifying we find it now), would come out clearly and strongly to defend slavery as a normal and proper practice? This is what PC thinking and Saudi oil money lead to, combined with the total gutlessness of the college's Directors, and Catholics somehow deciding that championing Catholic values has become somehow obsolete. No, no, it's better to forget those lines about being "in the world, but not OF the world" and just join whatever is going on in the world. It's not the assault from outside that destroys an institution, it's the terrible rot coming from within. Heaven help us. -Del)

Muslim Reform Group Reached Out to 3,000 US Mosques, Got Only 40 Responses

Churches & Gay Marriage

Ohio LGBT Group Announces Plans to Target Churches for Homosexual Weddings
Going after the Catholics first, naturally. I can't wait for them to sue a mosque for not renting space to a gay wedding or a Jewish one or a Christian one either. It's all about taking total control, and grinding into the dirt any and all who won't knuckle under to every demand, no matter what. This is part of why so many more Americans are upset and totally fed up with all the PC insanity. I'm praying the courts come down on the right side of this one. --Del. i support same sex marriage, but not forcing people who don't to accept them. in the end it increases anti-gay bigotry. ~Bob

White People Shouldn't Breed

UK: Muslim spits in non-Muslim baby’s face and shouts abuse at her mother
Excerpt: “White people shouldn’t breed,” screamed Rezzas Abdulla, and this is being presented solely as a racial incident. But in Britain, the entire problem of jihad and Sharia is presented as a racial issue between “Muslims” and “whites,” as if one couldn’t conceivably be a white Muslim. While this is absurd, as Islam and Islamic supremacism in reality have nothing to do with race aside from Islam’s ingrained Arab supremacism, it is the prevailing paradigm. So when Rezzas Abdulla spits in baby Layla-Jean’s face and screams about “white people,” it is apparently an act of vicious Islamic supremacism: white people shouldn’t breed, he is saying, only Muslims should, until the white people are conquered and subjugated.

Socialism

Venezuelans Now On A Forced Starvation Diet — Thanks, Socialism!
People talk a lot about socialism without understanding the difference between socialist practices and full socialism. Full socialism means the government controls.... EVERYTHING. The people really only have whatever rights and benefits the government sees fit to give them, and have very little to say about what the government does in how it controls society, industry, education, health care, etc. It always winds up with a tiny elite really running things, as we can see in China, Cuba, Viet Nam today, and as it was during the heyday of the Soviet Empire throughout all the satellite nations. And it doesn't work well, there's waste, corruption, environmental damage, injustice galore, and erosion of ethics on a large scale. Oddly enough, we have here in the USA very substantial socialist practices, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Title 8 housing, etc. But we remain a capitalist system and a democracy, with individual freedoms, opportunities, and ultimately control of the government to at least a large extent through the voting booth. Even though people refer to Sweden as a socialist nation, they are not full socialist, they too are democratic and capitalist, but with a much larger set of socialist practices than we have. It's an important difference from real socialism. (I still like it better here.) Venezuela should be an example that everyone looks at and understands, along with all the other failed socialist experiments dating back a century by now. But some intellectuals don't let mere facts, logic, and history bother them, they are in love with the ideal they believe can be made into reality. The actual reality of so much history is something they cannot, will not, acknowledge. (And so many of them are college professors.) --Del

The West

A Rapid Untergang? By Srdja Trifkovic
Excerpt: The Western world in general, and Europe in particular, are threatened not only by a numerically small, overtly jihadist cadre of “radicalized” individuals engaging in terrorism. The West is in mortal peril from a demographically explosive, ideologically highly developed, yet decentralized and structurally amorphous Islamic movement.

Back in uniform with JBM Patrol

Marine Vietnam vet. 70. Survived a lung transplant three years ago when a lot of the doctors were writing me off. Now back in uniform for JBM Patrol. Worked 11 hours today. People at the VA tell me I'm a tough old Marine. I may start to believe it.

I was pleased to be accepted for a PT Security Officer's Position. I hope I can meet their standards, especially physically. Today went fine. They are a top notch outfit, with military standards for uniforms, appearance, following orders and professionalism. They are several cuts above the security agency I worked for in college. The officer who trained me today, S/O Ray Cruz, was experienced (though 20) and sharp as a tack; A pleasure to work with. Wish me luck. ~Bob

Rapes

Islamic State jihadi says mass rapes of non-Muslim women were “normal”
Excerpt: In Islamic law, it is normal: the seizure of Infidel girls and their use as sex slaves is sanctioned in the Qur’an. According to Islamic law, Muslim men can take “captives of the right hand” (Qur’an 4:3, 4:24, 33:50). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have paid their dowries, and those whom your right hand possesses of those whom Allah has given you as spoils of war” (33:50). 4:3 and 4:24 extend this privilege to Muslim men in general. The Qur’an says that a man may have sex with his wives and with these slave girls: “The believers must win through, those who humble themselves in their prayers; who avoid vain talk; who are active in deeds of charity; who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or whom their right hands possess, for they are free from blame.” (Qur’an 23:1-6)

Canada: Bomb-making materials found at Muslim teen’s home
Excerpt: “Investigators also seized a document called ‘Put Your Trust in Allah.’ The document referred to the seven gifts someone would receive in the afterlife as a martyr for jihad.” One might almost get the idea that this had something to do with Islam, if we didn’t have so many learned analysts telling us it wasn’t so.

Mandel for Senate

Josh Mandel for U.S. Senate 2018
Excerpt: It is as if Mandel were grown from a petri dish in a lab far beneath the bowels of the Republican Jewish Coalition headquarters. A twice-deployed U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran, attorney, former city councilman, former state representative, and current state treasurer, Mandel has risen up through Ohio politics by running on an authentically principled brand of conservatism. His combat experiences overseas have led Mandel to a remarkably clear-eyed stance on the jihadi threat, and Mandel is very much already a known commodity within the broader pro-Israel and counter-jihadism communities. He is unapologetic about the civilizational clash between liberalized West and barbaric jihad, and about the concomitant need to protect the homeland from radical Islamism.

Blocking Refugees

FLASHBACK: Democrats Tried To Block Thousands Of Vietnam War Refugees, Including Orphans. By Richard Pollock

Taxpayer-Funded Addiction

Our Miserable 21st Century. From work to income to health to social mobility, the year 2000 marked the beginning of what has become a distressing era for the United States
Excerpt: How did so many millions of un-working men, whose incomes are limited, manage en masse to afford a constant supply of pain medication? Oxycontin is not cheap. As Dreamland carefully explains, one main mechanism today has been the welfare state: more specifically, Medicaid, Uncle Sam’s means-tested health-benefits program. Here is how it works (we are with Quinones in Portsmouth, Ohio): [The Medicaid card] pays for medicine—whatever pills a doctor deems that the insured patient needs. Among those who receive Medicaid cards are people on state welfare or on a federal disability program known as SSI. . . . If you could get a prescription from a willing doctor—and Portsmouth had plenty of them—Medicaid health-insurance cards paid for that prescription every month. For a three-dollar Medicaid co-pay, therefore, addicts got pills priced at thousands of dollars, with the difference paid for by U.S. and state taxpayers. A user could turn around and sell those pills, obtained for that three-dollar co-pay, for as much as ten thousand dollars on the street. In 21st-century America, “dependence on government” has thus come to take on an entirely new meaning.

Book Recommendations

Who Are We?: The Challenges to America's National Identity. By Samuel P. Huntington
Though a few years old, this is an important and interesting book. It is a bit of a heavy read, requiring focus, because it's by a Harvard Academic, but it is well researched and documented, with a plethora of data and quotes. The book is comprehensive discussion of how the American identity was shaped, how recent events like the unprecedented immigration of millions who do not seek to join the existing culture and how current trends may play out in the future, it should be of interest to every thoughtful American, of whatever political persuasion, who is concerned about the future. Some quotes to provoke your interest: "...the proportion of Christians in America has remained relatively constant. In three surveys between 1989 and 1996, between 84% and 88% of Americans said they were Christians. The proportion of Christians in American rivals or exceeds the proportion of Jews in Israel, of Muslims in Egypt, of Hindus in India, and of Orthodox believers in Russia." P99. "Americanization, Justice Louis Brandeis declared in 1919, meant that the immigrant 'adopts the clothes, the manners, and the customs generally prevailing here...substitutes for his mother tongue the English language,' insures that 'his interests and affections have become deeply rooted here.'...When he has done all this he will have 'the national consciousness of an American.'" P131 "'Classifications and distinctions based on race or color,' the leading black attorney, Thurgood Marshall argued in 1948, 'have no moral of legal authority in our society.'" P147. "23% of Hispanic immigrants were citizens, compared to 69% of non-Hispanic immigrants." P239 "Between 1994 and 1995, applications for citizenship increased by over 75%.... ...the result of two factors.... First... about 3,000,000 illegal immigrants became eligible for naturalization in 1994. ... Second, the vulnerability of government benefits available for aliens became visible in 1994 with California's proposition 187 and the debate leading up to Congresses passage of the Welfare Reform and Control Act of 1996. (I'd add "under Bill Clinton!") These developments threatened to open up a huge gap between the economic benefits available to citizens and non-citizens." P218 "An analysis of welfare use in 2001 by immigrants from a dozen regions and countries showed Mexican immigrant households ranking first, with 34.1% using welfare, compared to 22.7% of all immigrant households, and 14.6% of native American households." p236

Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold, and the Fate of the American Revolution by Nathaniel Philbrick

Though I have been a Revolutionary war buff since my early teens, soon 55 years ago, I gained both new knowledge and new insights from this book. A Christmas gift from my brother (Thanks Tom) it presents the well-known story of Benedict Arnold's treason in a different light, arguing that it was a unifying force that pulled Americans together to finish the revolution and create a united country. I knew that Arnold had been essential to final victory due to his service at Saratoga. This suggests his betrayal, loathsome as it was, preformed inadvertently a more important service for the inchoate nation. Such are the great ironies of history. There was also much detail and anecdotal stories that I was unaware of. I highly recommend this excellent history.

Like Glenn Reynolds says, Read the whole thing.
http://www.claremont.org/crb/article/the-rise-of-political-correctness/
"Because the point of P.C. is not and has never been merely about any of the items that it imposes, but about the imposition itself. Much less is it about creating a definable common culture or achieving some definable good. On the retail level, it is about the American’s ruling class’s felt need to squeeze the last drops of voter participation out of the Democratic Party’s habitual constituencies. On the wholesale level, it is a war on civilization waged to indulge identity politics."

Join the Resistance

Join the Resistance Against Authoritarianism. By Erick Erickson
Excerpt: Over the weekend, the Politico ran this piece about former Obama staffers steamed that Congress was repealing Obama-era regulations. Last week, a technology blogger from the left blogged about Obama writing laws and Congress trying to undo them. Under Armour’s CEO is under assault for saying he thinks President Trump will be good for his business. Leftists are posting signs that Trump voters are not welcome in their businesses. Liberal Christians are being cheered on for using Christianity to defend Obamacare while faithful Christians are booed for hiding behind their faith to oppose paying for abortions. I absolutely agree — we should join the resistance against authoritarianism. But it is the left that is authoritarian, not Donald Trump. Last week, based on campaign promises and without ever citing relevant statutes, the liberals on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Donald Trump’s immigration order. Sure, the left argued, Presidents can do what Donald Trump wants to do. But Donald Trump himself cannot. Never mind an actual statute gives President Trump the power to do what he did. The left, however, cheered the outcome and ignored the rule of law.
