MSNBC Host: Handgun Bullets Are Ineffective In Stopping School Shooters Because They're Too Slow
OK, yes, a high level newsperson actually said that there's no use equipping teachers with guns (or cops either I guess) because you can't stop a rifle toting murderer if you only have a pistol. Those rifle bullets are so much faster, you see, that you just don't have any chance at winning a shoot out. Let's see, at 30 feet the rifle bullet at 3000 ft/sec takes about 10 milliseconds to arrive. The pistol bullet will do the reverse course taking 20 milliseconds longer. So if the two people shoot at each other even that far apart in a building, no mere human will be able to detect the difference in time of impact. Somehow I don't think the relative projectile speeds make any real difference, it's all about who aims and fires first and most accurately. But TV figures are there for looks and personality, not for actually knowing anything. He should have remembered the old adage "better to keep mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt". --Del
