OK, first off, if this article offends anyone as being "Islamophobic", I'm sorry. I certainly know that one can be Muslim and perfectly willing to coexist with others, be good Americans, fight for this country, etc, as so many others have done. We know some personally who are fine people. But that the sway of fundamentalism is very strong in a huge part of the Islamic world, and that fundamentalist Islam is in fact totally at odds with Western civilization, and that some parts (no, again, not all) of culture in Islamic societies don't fit at all well with Western values and freedom, is all as obvious as the sun in the sky at noon in a cloudless summer day. It did not matter that the bulk of Germans in 1932 did not vote for Hitler and most certainly didn't want the police state he created, but the powerful, aggressive minority movement of Naziism still brought on the horrors. Likewise it doesn't matter that it's only a minority of Islamists who so deeply hate Western ways and are fanatically determined to attack and subvert the societies, if the societies cannot bring themselves to defend against them in the long run more horrors will come. This writer is focusing on Catholic leaders, but in fairness there are plenty of Protestants and even some Jews and a bunch of nonreligious liberal thinkers who also are bending over to be tolerant and accepting beyond any rational limit. The present times are turbulent and getting worse (I think) and what the future holds are more scary scenarios than pleasant ones. We can only hope and pray that leadership and rationality will arise that will allow the West to preserve itself with the freedoms we all think of as basic and natural. --Del
