Catching up with lots of worth reading political news

Update

VA Checkup
I'm feeling much better. My three month check up was today (Tuesday). Lots of apologies over the late notification that I had an aneurysm. Apparently it was first discovered in May, 2013, but at that time was considered not an impediment to getting me a lug, the big need then. My surgeon explained they begin to monitor them when they reach 4.5 cm (as mine did last July, and will evaluate overall health when for an operation they get 5.5 cm. But he said that it should have been better explained to me and I should have had a CT scan in six months (in January). He is scheduling a CT scan. If the growth is slow, they will rescan annually, if more rapid every six months. Every thing else seems fine; they are cutting my Prednisone a tad (yea--it's the source of many unwelcome side effects, but needed to prevent rejection). Eye follow up Friday, ear follow up in May. Further deponent knoweth not. ~Bob

Re: Vietnam "vets" On an airplane ride some months ago the guy sitting beside me told me he was a Marine sniper in Vietnam. I said, "Really. I'm a Marine. What unit were you assigned to?" Blank stare. He said, "I was not part of any unit. I was there as an independent. Free to roam." I replied, "Well, that's a first!" And returned to the book I was reading. Body language and that uncomfortable feeling in the air was - he'd been had. --Andy

Comments on "Dane County Ethics Board heard my complaint today":
If anyone of Mahoney's deputies did the same or similar thing, they'd be fired. What a poor example to set for your employees. But maybe he just "misremembered" the rules. Problem is, he has bigger political aspirations--at least in his own mind--even though others in his party believe he's reached the pinnacle of his political career. --Anon. The car in the ad was parked behind the Public Safety Building in the parking lot. --Anon. That picture is DEFINATLEY taken in the back parking lot of the Public Safety Building which is county property. And I'm guessing there's video cameras back there too. I'm sure it's on video. And that's a sheriff's truck---not a squad but still a county vehicle. And I agree--if one of his deputies did this they'd be under the bus. And the sad part is that this isn't the first time he's done this. And he's the chief law enforcement officer in the county?? --Anon. That car in the picture above is in the Public Safety building parking lot in the back. I'm guessing since it's a police building that there's video camera footage of the whole thing. Maybe an open records request would clear up the whole matter. --Anon. In the photo it is a truck used by Marine and Trail Enforcement. It appears to be the truck used by Sgt. John Brogan. The photo was taken behind the Public Safety Building. In this video it is a squad car. You can catch a glimpse of the sheriff’s office website on the front fender of the car.

Rachel Maddow explores ‘Clinton Cash’ book’s connection to New York Times, Washington Post. By Erik Wemple
Excerpt: MSNBC host Rachel Maddow last night arched an eyebrow or two over the news are taking an early peek at Peter Schweizer’s impending book, “Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich.” As first reported by the New York Times, Schweizer’s publisher, HarperCollins, has hammered out arrangements with Fox News, The Washington Post and the New York Times to pursue “story lines” from the book, which reportedly outlines allegedly cozy relationships that run through the Clinton family: specifically, foreign donors to the Clinton Foundation receiving favorable treatment from the State Department during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.

Storm gathers around Clinton finances. By Niall Stanage
Excerpt: The financial portfolio of Hillary Clinton, her family and the Clinton Foundation is under new scrutiny, worrying some Democrats, as the former secretary of State begins her 2016 campaign. The New York Times fired the starting pistol on another round of stories about the Clinton finances with a story on Monday morning describing a forthcoming book, Clinton Cash, by Peter Schweizer, a fellow at Stanford University’s conservative Hoover Institution.

Excerpt: Hillary Rodham Clinton used her clout as secretary of state to do favors for foreign donors who gave millions to her family foundation — and who paid millions more to her husband, Bill, in speaking fees, a new book charges. Records show that of the $105 million the former president raked in from speeches over 12 years, about half came during his wife’s four-year tenure at the State Department.

Excerpt: Cindy Archer, one of the lead architects of Wisconsin’s Act 10 — also called the “Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill,” it limited public-employee benefits and altered collective-bargaining rules for public-employee unions — was jolted awake by yelling, loud pounding at the door, and her dogs’ frantic barking. The entire house — the windows and walls — was shaking. She looked outside to see up to a dozen police officers, yelling to open the door. They were carrying a battering ram.

65% of Americans Want Next President to Change Obama's Policies. By Heather Ginsberg
Excerpt: The new Pew poll results show that Obama is truly in a second-term slump. 65 percent of Americans surveyed said they want the next president to have different programs or policies from those of President Obama. Only 30 percent said they wanted similar policies carried out when we get a new president in the White House.

Chaos in the Primaries. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: Painful as it is to realize that both the Democrats and the Republicans will still be holding their primaries a year from now, that is one of the high prices we pay for democracy.
Seldom does the initial "front-runner" in either party's primaries end up being the actual candidate when election day rolls around. However, even if we cannot predict the outcomes of the primaries this far in advance, we can at least start trying to understand the candidates, the almost candidates and the people who are running just for the publicity.

Influential Conservative Koch Brothers Reveal Who ‘Should Be’ the GOP Candidate in 2016: NYT. By Jason Howerton
Excerpt: The Koch brothers said they will support whoever the 2016 Republican candidate is — but it “should be Scott Walker.” Charles G. and David H. Koch reportedly indicated who they favor in 2016 during a fundraising event in New York City on Monday. For Walker, the governor of Wisconsin, securing an endorsement from the Koch brothers could be a big advantage should he eventually announce his candidacy. (Since the Liberals think the Koch brothers are the worst devils ever to escape from Hell and take up residence in the USA, they will now turn every bit of hatred and personal attacks they can muster on Walker. Fortunately, he's a pretty tough guy, who has been through it all before, survived, and ended up stronger than ever and able to turn the state's finances around. He's not a super personable guy who turns crowds on like some speakers, but he is, above all, competent. He knows how to work with systems and people to get things done. I began to like him a lot when he was fighting for his life against a huge combination of Teacher Union and Civil Service union activists and thugs, and won in the end. I think he'd be a different kind of President, and would do a lot of good for the country. --Del)

Thumb on the scale: FEC’s Women In Politics Forum Is Packed With Pro-Hillary Liberals. By Chuck Ross
Excerpt: As expected, a public forum being organized by the Democratic chair of the Federal Election Commission to discuss women in politics will host a slew of liberal Democratic panelists with no Republican in sight. Last week, FEC chair Ann Ravel announced the May 12 forum which will be aimed at addressing the dearth of women in public office. But critics slammed the announcement, arguing that the FEC’s mission is to regulate campaign spending, not get to the root of who chooses to run for office. The event announcement was also seen as playing favorites with its implicit preference for female candidates versus male candidates.

Know Your Social Justice Warriors. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Are you convinced that you’re being oppressed by all the people around you?
You’re not just a paranoid schizophrenic. You might also be a Social Justice Warrior.
What the Jacobins and Bolsheviks were to earlier eras, the Social Justice Warrior is to the millennial generation. Just don’t expect an SJW to mount the barricades or storm anything physical. If there were a button on their keyboards that would let them guillotine or gulag their enemies, they would use it.

The Feminist Fantasy of Women in Combat. By Matthew Vadum
excerpt: President Obama seems hellbent on forcing the women of the U.S. military into direct combat units at great potential risk both to themselves and their fellow soldiers. Obama supplicants in the military have been cowed by radical feminist ideology. They are promoting change for the sake of ideology, not because it is actually needed. (how many of the feminists calling for women in combat will serve? How many will send their daughters--or their sons--to serve? Damn few. ~Bob)

“He kind of had a deer in the headlights look and knew he was caught,” says Alvin. Surprisingly, it’s not his first citizen’s arrest. A few weeks ago, he interrupted another home invasion and captured a wanted felon.

Excerpt: The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 56% of Likely U.S. Voters now oppose the president’s plan to allow the illegal immigrants to remain in this country legally and apply for jobs. (Progressive elites don't care what the little people think. ~Bob)

Excerpt: What happened to American courage? With the exception of that courageous 1% who serve in our military, America seems to be peopled by cowards! Did anyone note the "occupier" crowd out in force last week...marching to demand $15 bucks an hour to flip burgers? Take a look! A good majority of them were Mexicans who had the audacity to march with signs in Spanish! And you can bet a large majority of them were either illegal or in Obama's "protection" plan. And, not only do they want us to ignore our immigration laws, but they want us to support their illegal families in the lifestyle they've become accustomed to....even if it means you pay $10 bucks for a Big Mac! I continually ask why the hell these people didn't stay in Mexico and clean up their own hell hole?

Mexican Food at University Space-Themed Event Causes Illegal Alien Supporters to Go Ballistic
http://freedomoutpost.com/2015/04/mexican-food-at-university-space-themed-event-causes-illegal-alien-supporters-to-go-ballistic/
Excerpt: When sponsoring or hosting an event with an "intergalactic" theme that includes the stars, planets, and the possibility of extraterrestrial aliens, don't serve any type of Mexican food as you are going to offend Latino citizens and illegal alien invaders that crossed our borders. According to the Daily Caller, "an administrator at the University of California, Santa Cruz, issued an apology to students after some of their peers made the 'poor decision' to include Mexican food at a space-themed event on Tuesday." These are college students who chose to serve Mexican food at the event because "they hadn't yet had Mexican food for one of these events."

Excerpt: "This is a big step forward to getting what we are ultimately seeking: the right to bodily liberty for chimpanzees and other cognitively complex animals," the executive director of the organization said. "We got our foot in the door. And no matter what happens, that door can never be completely shut again." (...) By granting the writ, the judge implicitly acknowledges apes are people. (I wouldn’t be as surprised if this rubbish was from California, land of the fruits and nuts, but no, it’s a NY judge. No doubt they’ll next be granted the right to marry and/or adopt children of any species and draw social security disability benefits for the whole family. Or, maybe the judge thinks they’ll vote Democrat. If they can’t overwhelm us with illegal aliens, maybe when the rats and mice organize.... When, at age 14, I read Heinlein’s Jerry was a Man, it left me uneasy because I had visions of someone doing exactly this. We humans can’t even agree to stop enslaving our fellow humans. I’ll be damned if I’m going to condone a war to free apes and monkeys. Animals are still property, and that’s the way we need to keep it. And, I might go to war for the right to eat a steak now and then. Ron P.)

It has become the leading research organization in the United States on the subject of the science and planning for the next climate change to a long lasting cold era especially with regard to alerting the government, the media, and the people of the need to prepare for this new climate era. In addition to the cold weather of this new climate era, the SSRC also believes along with other scientists and geologists, that there is strong likelihood of record volcanic eruptions and earthquakes that will take place during this next climate change. All of these predicted events are the result of the recently started 'solar hibernation,' a dramatic reduction in the energy output of the Sun.

Wind Turbines Kill More Birds Than BP Oil Spill. By Michael Bastasch
Excerpt: Environmentalists are highlighting the disaster by pointing to the 800,000 birds that have died because of the spill in the five years since the disaster, but activists have been eerily silent about the fact that way more birds have been killed by wind turbines — a supposedly “eco-friendly” energy source. (remember the old days, when saving the birds was worth sacrificing millions of third world kids to malaria by banning DDT? Good times. ~Bob)

Important: Obama Kept Iran's Short Breakout Time a Secret. By Eli Lake
Excerpt: The Barack Obama administration has estimated for years that Iran was at most three months away from enriching enough nuclear fuel for an atomic bomb. But the administration only declassified this estimate at the beginning of the month, just in time for the White House to make the case for its Iran deal to Congress and the public. Speaking to reporters and editors at our Washington bureau on Monday, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz acknowledged that the U.S. has assessed for several years that Iran has been two to three months away from producing enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon. When asked how long the administration has held this assessment, Moniz said: "Oh quite some time."

Flashback, October, 2013: Obama: Iran 'year or more' from getting bomb

U.S. carrier moving off coast of Yemen to block Iranian arms shipments.  Tom Vanden Brook, USA TODAY
Excerpt: The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt has moved off the coast of Yemen to prepare to intercept potential shipments of Iranian weapons to the rebels fighting the U.S.-backed government of Yemen, Pentagon officials said Monday. Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, said the carrier and ships supporting her had been in the Persian Gulf. They moved to the waters near Yemen because of increased instability there, he said. (If we are actually going to be proactive in keeping the Iranians from supplying weapons, while the Saudis and others beat up the rebels and we don't have to spend any of our blood or treasure, that would be a great thing. Surprising, but hey, anything constructive for US interests is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. --Del)

Israel Alone: Previous quarrels between Washington and Jerusalem were about differing Mideast perceptions. Now the issue is how the U.S. perceives itself. By Bret Stephens
Excerpt: Recent conversations with senior Israeli officials are shot through with a sense of incredulity. They can’t understand what’s become of U.S. foreign policy.
They don’t know how to square Barack Obama’s promises with his policies. They fail to grasp how a president who pledged to work toward the abolition of nuclear weapons is pushing an accord with Tehran that guarantees their proliferation. They are astonished by the nonchalance with which the administration acquiesces in Iran’s regional power plays, or in al Qaeda’s gains in Yemen, or in the Assad regime’s continued use of chemical weapons, or in the battlefield successes of ISIS, or in Russia’s decision to sell advanced missiles to Tehran. They wonder why the president has so much solicitude for Ali Khamenei’s political needs, and so little for Benjamin Netanyahu’s.

Iran: Yeah, We're Not Going to Allow Any Inspections at Military Sites. By Guy Benson
Excerpt: International nuclear inspectors will be barred from all Iranian military sites under any deal with world powers, a senior commander in the Revolutionary Guard said Sunday, setting up a possible standoff as negotiators try to reach a final deal. (They will keep seeking concessions as long as Obama, desperate for a deal, will give in to them. We once sold a house to a used car dealer. After the deal was made, he asked for something. It seemed small, so we said okay. They something else, and again we gave in. The third time, we realized we'd never close until we said no. Unless you are willing to walk away from a deal, you get screwed every time. ~Bob)

And Obama can't even negotiate their release as part of the nuke surrender deal? ~Bob)

Important: Hillary Lied, Libyans Died. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Hundreds of people just died because of Obama and Hillary’s illegal Libyan war.
The Libyan War was based on a lie about genocide that is turning out to be real as ISIS beheads African Christians captured in Libya, as migrants claw their way abroad boats out of Libya, killing each other along the way, as a civil war between the legal government and the Muslim Brotherhood drags on. The strange thing about left-wing wars is that we don’t talk about them.

But put a microphone in his hand, and 20 or 30 impressionable youths in front of him, and his deep-seated hatred of “Australian values” soon becomes apparent. “Australian values are the values of the Kuffar (unbelievers). Your religion is not their values.

  1. Government logic: A military compensation commission is making recommendations to change the retirement system e.g., do away with 20 years retirement in the name of strengthening the force. At the same time women are being pushed for assignment to ground combat units. Yea, that makes perfect sense.
