Today's news

Today’s News. Stopped segregating Syria. You remember Syria, right? Still hoping that gmail will return to their old, user-friendly compose window. The new one still sucks. I would not recommend switching to Gmail until and unless they do. ~Bob

Chicago: the murder capital of America: Chicago, the birthplace of the skyscraper, hang-out of Al Capone and home to Barack Obama, has claimed a new and unwanted title as America’s murder capital.
Excerpt: The city registered more murders than any other US community in 2012, surpassing New York for the first time, despite having a population only a third of the size.
There were 500 murders in Chicago last year, up from 431 in 2011, according to crime statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Over the same 12 months, murders in New York fell from 515 to 419. (Don’t worry, Chicago. A judge—who lives in a nice safe neighborhood, just outlawed “Stop and Frisk,” so New York will catch back up. ~Bob.)

House Republicans plan Friday vote on defunding Obamacare
Excerpt: With the deadline for a government shutdown growing near, House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) had a familiar choice to make: embrace something that looked like a compromise with Democrats, antagonizing conservatives in his party, or give in to their demands and guarantee a showdown with President Obama and Senate Democrats. (There really is no compromise. Either the Republicans give in and let Obamacare go forward, or the Democrats give in and let it be killed. A majority of the public wants it killed, but the media will convince them that the evil Republicans are responsible for a government shutdown, though both sides are equally responsible, because either side can keep it open by giving in. I predict the Republicans will give in. Resisting the White House, Senate and the Media is too much to expect. ~Bob.)

5 reasons why a government shutdown is (likely) coming. By Chris Cillizza

What Do You Mean, We're Flying into a Budget Dogfight with No Parachute? By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
Excerpt: I don't oppose the Ted Cruz-Mike Lee plan for brinksmanship on stopping Obamacare . . . I just wish there was a clear backup plan in case it doesn't work. When you raise that question, you often hear a response of, "if we don't fight now, when will we fight?" That's a valid but separate argument. That's an argument for trying it; my question is aboutwhat the GOP should do if it doesn't work. And if you don't think there's at least a chance that the public recoils from a government shutdown and overwhelmingly blames the Republicans for this . . . well then, you're willfully blind. This isn't something that is guaranteed to work as long as we believe in it enough. This isn't Tinkerbell.

Walker: Study says health law will raise premiums in Wisconsin exchanges 82 percent
Excerpt: The new health care law faces tough sledding in many states controlled by Republicans. Wisconsin is a good example, There, Republican Gov. Scott Walker has opposed opening a state-run online site called an exchange where individuals and families can shop for health insurance. Walker left that to Washington to operate.

Security forces storm pro-Mursi town near Cairo to reassert control
Excerpt: Security forces and militants fought gun battles on Thursday during a government operation to wrest back control of a town near Cairo dominated by Islamist supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi.

Rebel-on-Rebel Violence Seizes Syria
Excerpt: An al Qaeda spinoff operating near Aleppo, Syria's largest city, last week began a new battle campaign it dubbed "Expunging Filth." The target wasn't their avowed enemy, the Syrian government. Instead, it was their nominal ally, the U.S.-backed Free Syrian Army. (As I’ve said before, if/when Assad is toppled, Syria will still have a civil war for yours as our moderate allies fight each other for power. ~Bob.)

Now Syria's rebels are fighting each other. By Con Coughlin
Excerpt: I would strongly recommend that William Hague – and any other member of the [British] Government who still believes it is a good idea to arm the Syrian rebels – takes a close look at today's article in the Wall Street Journal. It reports that Islamist militants linked to al-Qaeda have now launched a campaign dubbed "expunging filth" which is aimed destroying the Syrian Free Army (SFA), its main rival in the rebel movement. Mr Hague and Laurent Fabius, his French counterpart, argue that it is essential to continue arming the rebels to increase the pressure on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to end the civil war, destroy his chemical weapons arsenal and enter peace talks

Important: Face to face with the new enemy in Syria
Excerpt: “ISIS,” murmured our interpreter, alias “Hamza”, confirming that we had just driven into a checkpoint controlled by al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria. The very word seemed to suck the oxygen out of the vehicle. Infamous for abduction and torture of their enemies, hatred of Westerners and a radical interpretation of Sharia, they hold the fate of two dozen forlorn foreign hostages inside Syria. (Obama, Cameron, Hollande, and others want to supply even more arms to these West-hating, Christian-killing terrorists. BTW, this is the prize we were awarded in Iraq when we 'won' the Iraqi war. It is reassuring that, throughout the West, the political class, along with the chattering class ('journalists'--with the exception of those who have been to the ME), is now practically isolated and unable to drum up popular support for another ill-starred military adventure. --Don Hank)

Good Article: Hatred of Jews. By Ali Salim
Excerpt: No matter how hard or how often we Muslims try, we are never able finally to end the connection our lives seem to have with the lives of the Jews. Watching Arab and Islamic television, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, brings the viewer to the inescapable conclusion that we have no real lives of our own, no unity and no value: our only motivation is having the Jews as a common enemy, with our lives dependent on them. We treat the Jews the way the rabid Christian anti-Semites treated them in the Middle Ages, blaming them for every illness, tragedy and misfortune. We blame them for the failures of Islam while only we are at fault for the catastrophes that befall us.

Fed Stays the Course on Easy Money
Google the title if you hit a pay wall. ~Bob. Excerpt: Seeing a more uneven economic climate than they expected and the potential for fiscal discord in Washington, Federal Reserve officials got cold feet Wednesday and decided to keep their signature easy-money program in place for the time being. The move, coming after Fed officials spent months alerting the public that they might begin to pare their $85 billion-a-month bond-buying program at the September policy meeting, marks the latest in a string of striking turnabouts from Washington policy makers that have whipsawed markets in recent days.

Real Climate Science the IPCC Doesn’t Want You to See. By Paul Driessen
Excerpt: Earth’s average atmospheric temperatures haven’t increased in almost 17 years. It’s been eight years since a Category 3 hurricane hit the United States. Tornado frequency is at a multi-decade low ebb. Droughts are shorter and less extreme than during the Dust Bowl and 1950s. Sea ice is back to normal, after one of the coldest Arctic summers in decades. And sea levels continue to rise at a meager 4-8 inches per century.

Obama climate change plan gets first airing in front of House skeptics: EPA asserted authority to move forward without new laws from Congress at hearing where contrarian views were on display
Excerpt: The Obama administration asserted its authority to move forward on its climate change action plan on Wednesday– with or without new laws from Congress. In the first airing of Obama's climate plan, a hearing of the House of Representatives was told the Environmental Protection Agency and other government agencies were already authorised to bring in new measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Trucker group plans to shut down D.C. for 3 days… and Glenn supports them?
Excerpt: A group of truckers is reportedly planning to shut down Washington, D.C. for three days straight beginning onOctober 11 to protest “corruption against the Constitution.” A Facebook page for “Truckers To Shut Down America” has gained more than 16,000 likes, though it remains unclear how many truckers actually plan to take part in the event.

Impeachable: President Obama waives law that forbids U.S. from providing ‘aid and comfort’ to the enemy
“Today I come to you with the news that our President actually waived the restriction on countries supplying arms to international terrorists, specifically Al‑Qaeda. And the reason why he waived that is because we’re providing arms to international terrorists, specifically Al‑Qaeda,” Glenn said. “Now, if that isn’t an act of treason, I don’t know what is.” (Hey, dude, he’s got more flexibility. –Barb. Seeing how it saved Clinton, Obama must pray every night that the GOP launches an impeachment effort. ~Bob.)

Obama’s Move to Arm Al Qaeda in Syria
Excerpt: Though the AECA was designed to prevent arming terrorists, Obama announced that he had the authority to “waive the prohibitions in sections 40 and 40(a) of the AECA related to such a transaction.” Section 40, “Transactions With Countries Supporting Acts of International Terrorism,” and Section 40(a), “Prohibited Transactions by the United States Government,” ban sending munitions to any nation described in Section 40 (d), “Countries Covered by Prohibition:” (Per article: Section 40(g), “Waiver,” grants the president the power to waive these provisions if he determines “the transaction is essential to the national security interest of the United States.” –Barb)

The Muslim Brotherhood & its growing ties to the U.S. government
Excerpt: Frank Gaffney, founder and president of the Center for Security Policy, joined Glenn on tonight’s Glenn Beck Program to elaborate on the Muslim Brotherhood and its growing power and influence in the U.S. government. We have already witnessed the Obama Administration throw its support behind the organization in Egypt, and now there are a growing number of people with close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in our government.

The owners of the famous Fifth Avenue skyscraper plan to launch a "roadshow" this week to seek buyers for the 102-story landmark. The building and 18 others owned by Malkin Holdings will be sold through one of the largest real-estate initial public offerings in history, reports The Wall Street Journal. (Bet a Saudi Prince buys it with our oil money. Drill now, drill here! ~Bob.)

Beaten for Being Gay in a Black Neighborhood. By Colin Flaherty
Excerpt: Sometimes you see can see the antipathy in hip hop videos. Other times at the ballot box. Still other times black hostility towards gay people is expressed in the dozens and dozens of hyper-violent episodes of black mob violence against gay people. Some on video. (Probably for Trayvon, you know. That excuses and violent assault. ~Bob.)

Snowden Nominated For European Human Rights Prize
Excerpt: In a special announcement Tuesday night by the European Union parliament, it was revealed that Edward Snowden has been nominated for 2013's Saharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, which is offered annually to individuals who have aided in the promotion of freedom of thought in the world. The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, considered Europe’s top human rights award, has been bestowed upon luminaries such as former South African President Nelson Mandela, and Myanmar opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. (Nice gesture, but too late for USA, now Animal Farm. –Barb)

Obama to attend memorial service for victims of Navy Yard shooting
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/323021-obama-to-attend-memorial-service-for-victims-of-navy-yard-shooting#ixzz2fKZLvRnZ
Carney said Obama "will want to mourn the loss of these innocent victims" and "share in the nation's pain" of the shootings. On Monday, 12 people died when a lone gunman opened fire. It is unclear when the memorial will be held. (Never let a good crisis go to waste. Pelosi on the Biden band wagon screaming action against 2ndamendment. Bodies aren’t even cold or autopsied….and POTUS was sooooo concerned about these poor souls that he ranted against GOP in the middle of the crisis, obliquely mentioned “we’re having another mass shooting” as if predicting the weather, and as Capitol SWAT Team ordered to stand down and let more fish in the barrel get shot for best effect….Now he wants a photo op. Feel sorry for the families….and what is left of US. Forward! Change! –Barb. He went to the memorial service for the Fort Hood victims. Think he’d get even more criticism for not going. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: Communication and transparency are key to restoring user trust in Facebook and the government following a summer of revelations about government surveillance, the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg saidWednesday. Zuckerberg was critical of the U.S. government’s response to the National Security Agency surveillance revelations, which included saying that the surveillance programs only targeted non-U.S. persons. “Gee thanks, we’re trying to provide an international service” at Facebook, Zuckerberg said at an event hosted by The Atlantic. (The billionaire’s credibility, company and stock went down? After the movie and speaking at the Bilderberg meeting? Where’s the world’s tiniest violin? The lemmings/sheeple are somewhat smarter but toooooo late. –Barb)

Elite tactical team responsible for defending DC Capitol complex were reportedly ordered to leave the scene
Excerpt: According to a BBC report, one of the most heavily armed police teams, assigned with the task of protecting the Capitol complex and responsible for responding to threats of terrorism, was ordered to stand down in response to Monday’s shooting at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building in D.C. The Containment and Emergency Response Team (CERT), is highly trained and equipped with the best gear on the market. The team consists of four men and is responsible for safeguarding the Capitol complex. (False flag to push anti-2nd amendment agenda? Benghazi—Stand down. Why? 9/11/01 F-15s stand down/stalled. Why? So there’d be a 2nd Pearl Harbor for that emotional effect to sanction NSA on steroids. –Barb)

Navy Yard: Swat team Ordered to Stand Down as Shooting Started
http://conservativebyte.com/2013/09/navy-yard-swat-team-ordered-stand-shooting-started/
Excerpt: Sounds like Benghazi all over. We’ll never find out who gave this order or why(Could it be that someone thought he might be a Muslim? --JB).

Obama’s Syrian Failure Begins To Bear Fruit
Excerpt: The policy Obama seems to have gotten right in Syria is that the United States is a strategic irrelevance whose words aren’t worth a whole lot. Back in the good old days under Chairman Mao the technical term was “paper tiger.”

Arab Spring: Tunisian Edition
Excerpt: Has it really been only two years since the Arab Spring? It seems like only yesterday that the White House was patting itself on the back over the successful use of “soft power” to transform the Arab world: something that the evil Bush and his neo-con banditti would never have contemplated. Now the project lies in ruins.

Tom DeLay’s money laundering conviction overturned
Excerpt: A Texas appeals court has overturned the money laundering conviction of former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. (People on both sides of the political divide will greet this with joy or loathing. As with the Trayvon Martin case. I was not privy to the evidence, have to accept what the justice system decided. And, like it, the whole thing is sad, regardless. ~Bob)
7 Examples of Discrimination Against Christians in America. By John Hawkins
Excerpt: The majority of Americans are Christians, but we're not treated with respect by the culture, the schools, or by our politicians. "Vengeance" may be the Lord's to dish out, but that doesn't mean Christians have to support the people who are attacking us or meekly stand by when other followers of Christ are denigrated and oppressed for their faith. (I'd already seen most of these examples, but it's a good idea to put things together and call on Christians to stand up for their rights. Aside from the examples, what I notice is the pervasive but subtle tendency to dismiss religious people as all being somehow backward, or being somewhat extremist. While there are a very few extremists among the Christian faiths, there are far more extremists among the Muslim population (check out The Nation of Islam for a great example), but it's not PC to talk about them at all. And I am not bringing that up as an opportunity to bash Muslims, the majority of whom are not extremist and are trying to live amongst us quietly while enjoying life in the US as we all do. This insidious attitude about Christians being out of the mainstream somehow, to be treated with condescension, is as much a problem as the out and out discrimination we also see. Of course, in a sense Christians are called to be out of the mainstream, as defined by the media and others. We are called to be in the world, but not of the world. That doesn't make us any less valid citizens. It's time for Christians to stop turning the other cheek for the media and others, and stand up boldly when attempts are made to discriminate against us or marginalize us. --Del)

Why The Left Doesn’t Care That Mental Illness Is The Key Factor In Mass Shootings
http://lastresistance.com/3221/left-doesnt-care-mental-illness-key-factor-mass-shootings/
Excerpt: The Left always prattles on about gun control, as if that is the beginning and the end on violence. If guns were only restricted, we would be a violence-free society—just like before guns were invented. Laws equal less violence. However, the only gun control law that does anything to protect people is mental illness screening. That’s it. It's always the deranged that commit these mass-murders. Yet in spite of their mental deficiencies, they are allowed to purchase guns.

Excerpt: The man who police say shot and killed 12 people in a Washington Naval shipyard was so unhappy with his life in America — where he was beset by money woes and felt slighted as a veteran — that he was "ready to move out of the country" last year, NBC News reports. Aaron Alexis had repeated incidents of apparent mental illness and reportedly called police to complain about people following him and to say that he was hearing voices. …But a close friend also told NBC that Alexis “was tired of dealing with the government.” (Forward! Change! Welcome to Omerica. –Barb)

SEC proposes rules on CEO pay
Excerpt: The Securities and Exchange Commission moved forward with regulations Wednesday that would require companies to disclose the gap in pay between their chief executives and average employees. The commission voted 3-2 to propose a rule requiring that companies calculate how much their leaders earn per year and then compare that to the median, or middle, employee. But unions and liberals have pushed for the proposal as a way to shame companies and help workers negotiate their salaries.

A single county in the U.S. spends more than $2 billion a year on benefits for illegal aliens
Excerpt: But I'm sure the taxpayers of Los Angeles County don't mind. After all, they most certainly don't need the money themselves. A projected $650 million in welfare benefits will be distributed to illegal alien parents in 2013, county officials said Monday.

The Obamanization of your neighborhood… turning your community into the south side of Chicago
Excerpt: If you are one of those homeowners or renters who has chosen to live in a good neighborhood, worked hard to move to a community with (relatively) good schools, if you’ve decided to move to a community where trees and green lawns are common, the Obama administration is coming after you. If you and your family struggled to leave behind the crime, deprivation and crumbling schools of the city for the relatively tranquil suburbs, don’t get too comfortable, the Obama administration is planning on sending you back to the future. The Department of Housing and Urban Development, the people who inflicted the squalor and tragedy of public housing on citizens and communities for five decades, have decided that they are now not only qualified, but also have the power, to decide what your neighborhood and community should look like.

Know Your Military Colonists. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Mexico's military colonists are not military. Often they aren't even Mexican. But they have managed to take back California without firing a shot. Unless you count the occasional drive by shooting.

Excerpt: Earth could continue to host life for at least another 1.75 billion years, as long as nuclear holocaust, an errant asteroid or some other disaster doesn't intervene, a new study calculates. But even without such dramatic doomsday scenarios , astronomical forces will eventually render the planet uninhabitable. Somewhere between 1.75 billion and 3.25 billion years from now, Earth will travel out of the solar system's habitable zone and into the "hot zone," new research indicates. (scared the hell out of me. I thought at first it said 1.75 million…~Bob)

Doctor shortage expected to worsen with Obamacare
Excerpt: Something’s got to give, and it seems a virtual certainty there will be longer wait times for patients, especially new ones. “Most New Mexicans will likely feel the pinch of an inadequate healthcare workforce,” the LFC report said. How long people will wait is hard to tell, but when Massachusetts reformed its health care system in 2006 average wait times for primary care and specialty care appointments exceeded 40 days, the report said.

Lawmakers clash over Benghazi 'whitewash'
http://thehill.com/blogs/global-affairs/terrorism/323383-lawmakers-clash-over-benghazi-white-wash#ixzz2fMjjXQq3
Excerpt: Republicans expressed particular outrage at the State Department's decision not to fire anyone after the terror attack on the U.S. annex in BenghaziLibya, left four Americans dead on the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Pickering said no one was found to have breached his or her duty and said the audit was not a “gotcha” effort. Indeed, Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) quipped, “nobody was gotcha'd.” (Don’t you love the slant? Only GOP griping because no one held responsible. The perpetrators “don’t know nuthin’ ‘bout birthin’ no babies…” Why transferred laterally and still working for Regime? Job well done, coverup/stonewall intact. Throw out a few more crises to distract the news for a cycle or two and the folks will all believe it was phony, even though it has been over 1 year with no satisfaction for families. Of course, there is the clever racial mental nudge of labeling a “whitewash.” –Barb)

Greenpeace said it believes its Dutch-flagged ship Arctic Sunrise was in international waters when the raid began. (Russia better watch out. Obama will likely draw a red line over this. Or maybe a green one. ~Bob)

What is much less well-known is that the federal government was legally required to cut its losses of tax dollars just months into the project, and that only an illegal loan modification made to benefit an Obama fundraiser led to taxpayers losing more than $500 million.

And no witnesses were required to swear oaths to tell the truth. (”Accountability Review Board” really an oxymoron. They have more flexibility now. The “election” is history. –Barb)

Excerpt:
President Obama will join former President Bill Clinton in New York next Tuesday for an event to tout the president's healthcare law. White House press secretary Jay Carney billed the conversation as "part up a ramped up education effort" ahead of the launch of the state-based insurance markets where uninsured Americans will be able to purchase coverage…. In that speech, Clinton — once described by Obama as the "secretary of explaining stuff” — called on Republicans to aid in implementation rather than attempt to undermine the law. (Dialectial linguistics. “Education effort” = “propaganda nudge” for hire. –Barb)

Oz has had enough of Climate Creeps: Australia shows us all the way by sacking its useless, pointless Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery. By James Delingpole
Excerpt: This time last week he was Australia's Climate Commissioner, on an A$180,000 a year salary which required him to work just three days a week. But incoming premier Tony Abbott's night of the green knives has put paid to that. Flannery's Mickey Mouse job has gone; so too has Australia's Climate Commission, a multi-million dollar, allegedly "independent", propaganda outlet set up by Julia Gillard to help give her climate alarmist policies – such as the hated carbon tax, which Abbott is also abolishing – a veneer of scientific credibility.
