New review on Amazon
Informed, honest, witty. By Alison Bucklin
The Old Jarhead's Journal: Random Thoughts on Life, Liberty, and Leadership (Paperback)
Robert A. Hall has observed the political scene with integrity and wit for decades. This distillation of his observances will provide the reader with a treasury of thought-provoking commentary on a variety of topics. You CAN put it down. But you will always want to pick it up again.

Must Read: It’s War, You Idiots. By Michael Ledeen
Excerpt: It’s hard to get our minds around the dimensions of the slaughter underway in the Middle East and Africa, and harder still to see that the battlefields of Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Nigeria and Mali are pieces in a global war in which we are targeted. For the most part, the deep thinkers zero in on the single battlefields. What if anything should we do about the big fight in Egypt? Should we assist the Syrian opposition?

Sickening: Farm subsidies: A welfare program for agribusiness. It's one of the most widely reviled federal programs. So why is Congress fighting to save farm subsidies?
There are no conservatives in Congress. ~Bob. Excerpt: Critics contend that the subsidies it hands out are wasteful, illogical, and counterproductive — a welfare program for millionaires and giant agribusinesses. Over the last decade, the farm bill has cost taxpayers more than $168 billion.

Excerpt: Many today believe that renewable energy will let us get off fossil fuels soon. Unfortunately, the facts say otherwise. According to International Energy Agency data, 13.12% of the world’s energy came from renewables in 1971, the first year that the IEA reported global statistics. In 2011, renewables’ share was actually lower, at 12.99%. … Burning wood in pre-industrial Western Europe caused massive deforestation, as is occurring in much of the developing world today. The indoor air pollution that biomass produces kills more than three million people annually.

Obama economic approval falls
Excerpt: Just 35 percent of Americans approve of the president’s job on the economy, down from 42 percent in June, according to a Gallup survey. Sixty-two percent disapproved.

Suppose you could magically pay any fee you want to health care providers and they can’t refuse. You can’t control the fee others are paying. But you can select your own. What fee would you choose? Your first inclination might be to select a fee of zero, or at least something close to it. So let’s try that out in a thought experiment. When you call for a doctor’s appointment, you would discover increasing difficulty getting one. You would be put on hold for long periods of time. The number you are asked to call might be answered by a voice recorder, not a real person. When you are given an appointment, it would be weeks (perhaps months) away. When you arrive at the doctor’s office you would discover that others in the waiting room are seen before you are ― even patients who arrive after you have arrived. BTW, I’m not making any of this up. I’m more or less describing the difference in how patients are treated by dermatologists if they need a Medicare-covered service versus a service for which payment will be out of pocket; how Medicaid patients are treated vis-à-vis non-Medicaid patients; and how I have observed that HMO patients are treated versus patients who pay market prices.

Egyptian police killed in Sinai ambush at Rafah
Excerpt: At least 24 Egyptian policemen have been killed in an ambush attack in the Sinai peninsula. (Damn Zionists. Oh, wait…~Bob.)

Obamacare to end health plan used by 100,000 New Jerseyans
If you like your plan, you can go pound sand. ~Bob.

NCAA searches for new low by denying Marine eligibility
Another reason to hate the NCAA. ~Bob. All he needs to do is claim to be a Muslim and the rule will be ignored. - LLW

Egypt: Both sides accuse the other of being agents of the Jews
Had to know this was coming. ~Bob.

Whose Side Is Obama On? By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Obama interrupted a hard day of lazing around Martha’s Vineyard to denounce the “arbitrary arrests” of Muslim Brotherhood supporters and the “broad crackdown on Mr. Morsi’s associations and supporters” and then insisted “We don’t take sides with any particular party or political figure.”

“We don’t take sides”
Excerpt: Barack Obama’s incompetence is destroying another US allegiance. Squeezing a few precious moments from his golf vacation, Barack Obama informed us that he will not choose sides in Egypt. We don’t take sides when Christians are persecuted. (Per article, Russia moving in. –Barb)

The Jew-Hating Dem Behind the ‘Million Muslim March.’ By Arnold Ahlert
Excerpt: As even the Washington Post acknowledges, AMPAC’s leader, M.D. Rabbi Alam, has “pushed controversial anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about the attacks.” … In addition, Alam is a 9/11 “truther” who believes that Jews, in a grand conspiracy, perpetrated one of the worst domestic attacks in the nation’s history.

The 25 Stupidest Liberal Quotes Of The Last Decade. By John Hawkins
25) Seniors love getting junk mail. It’s sometimes their only way of communicating or feeling like they’re part of the real world. -- Harry Reid

Excerpt: So the great liberal hope, Barack Obama, who was going to bring peace to the world with a smile and an apology, has instead lost us the entire Middle East.

The Radical Racist Background of Obama & We’re Not Talking About Barack
Excerpt: I did some background checking into Michelle Obama and her links with socialists, communists and other high ranking radicals that wish nothing more than to destroy the United States as it is, and create a brand new United States! This may sound absurd and demeaning, but it is true. Some of the words spoken by Michelle Obama and her husband Barack Obama have come directly from a radical book titled Rules for Radicals by Saul D. Alinsky

Obama asks public schools to ignore bad behavior by black students
Excerpt: On July 26th Obama signed an executive order titled the “African American Education Initiative.” The order essentially gives a green light for black students to misbehave in public schools. In two places, Obama’s executive order calls on schools to reduce the number disciplinary actions taken against blacks students.

Judge Scolds Dems For Ignoring Constitution: Calls election-rigging schemes 'both sad and, frankly, shocking'
Excerpt: The judge’s rebuke was made in reference to a 126-page bill passed by the Democrats under the guise of “election reform,” but as the bill was being debated, it became apparent to some that the real purpose of the bill was to enable Democrats to win elections. Among other things, the bill requires all elections to be conducted by mail-in ballot and allow for same-day registration. The bill also eliminates residency requirements so state residents can go anywhere in the state and vote.

Money, Money, Money, Money, MONEY! By Maureen Dowd
Excerpt: Why is it that America’s roil family always seems better in abstract than in concrete? The closer it gets to running the world once more, the more you are reminded of all the things that bugged you the last time around. The Clintons’ neediness, their sense of what they are owed in material terms for their public service, their assumption that they’re entitled to everyone’s money.

Excerpt: “The executive branch has now confirmed that the ‘rules, regulations and court-imposed standards for protecting the privacy of Americans’ have been violated thousands of times each year. We have previously said that the violations of these laws and rules were more serious than had been acknowledged, and we believe Americans should know that this confirmation is just the tip of a larger iceberg,” Wyden and Udall said in a joint statement this afternoon. “While Senate rules prohibit us from confirming or denying some of the details in today’s press reports, the American people have a right to know more details about of these violations. (Get ready for more smoke and use of the word “phony” by POTUS et al. Watch the shell game. –Barb)

All Barack and No Populist Bite: OFA's impotent "climate change" congressional "events" won't deter unilateral actions against the people's will.
Excerpt: My self-appointed mission was to observe appearances by protesting members of Organizing for Action, the now supposedly “independent” entity which until late last year ran President Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns. All of OFA’s protest visits “just so happen” to target 135 Republicans characterized as “climate deniers.” As a result, on Wednesday, Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe, one of the very few real heroes in what used to be the world’s greatest deliberative body, announced an investigation into whether OFA has violated the Hatch Act’s prohibition against engaging in political campaign activities. (They’ve got “the mark.” –Barb)

Excerpt: By December 2014, the U.S. military will have transported home some 35,000 vehicles and 95,000 containers at an estimated cost of $6 billion. It is the largest retrograde or pullout in history. “There are huge problems getting materiel out of Afghanistan,” said Don Olson, top civilian leader of the Sierra Army Depot, America’s largest repository of military equipment. The biggest problem, since Afghanistan is landlocked, is that the U.S. must fly the equipment out or pay exorbitant customs fees to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Teen 'who shot baby dead in his stroller during robbery' will suggest the boy's own PARENTS wanted him killed for insurance money

Excerpt: Defense attorneys are set to strongly suggest that the real killers of a toddler brutally shot to death in his stroller were his parents, who had a financial interest in his death - and that their 18-year-old defendant who goes on trial this week is not guilty. Antonio Santiago had learned to walk, but not yet talk, when he was killed March 21, six weeks after his first birthday. He was strapped in his stroller, out for a walk with his mother a few blocks from their apartment near the Georgia coast, when someone shot the boy between the eyes with a .22-caliber bullet the size of a garden pea. (Forget the kid—he wasn’t wearing a hoodie. ~Bob)

Excerpt: The government puts its financial needs first, not the patient’s desires or best interests. The British government has been giving hospitals financial rewards for increasing the number of patients put on end-of-life care, a type of care that clears beds needed for other patients and reduces the government’s expenses. The Francis report described hospitals in the Mid Staffordshire trust as a “culture focused on doing the system’s business,” not caring for patients.

Excerpt: President Obama will move forward with adding his signature to the UN Arms Treaty before the end of this month according to Press Secretary Jay Carney. It is feared and predicted by many gun rights groups and advocates that the treaty, if ratified, could open up the US gun market to international regulation.

Excerpt: The "he said, she said" dispute over the claim that the Cambodian regime suspended or cancelled international military cooperation with the U.S. offers an ideal opportunity for the Obama administration to right a wrong-headed policy of providing aid to a corrupt and politicized military implicated in brutal human rights abuses. (Cambodia was the scene of truly incredible horror after the Viet Nam war ended, but the mass killers of Pol Pot were finally dispersed and some kind of less horrible government instituted. But while they aren't slaughtering people by the thousands any more, the goons in charge are still murdering any and all critics, and practicing corruption on a huge scale. And we are financing part of this. It is time and more than time for us to take a stand against this corrupt, gangster government. –Del. They are communists. What do you expect? ~Bob)

American al Qaeda militant urges attacks on U.S. diplomats
What I believe our message to Muslim countries should be: "The war on terrorism is over. We lost, you won. You don't want us in your countries and we don't want you in ours. Fine. It's a deal. We can live with that. We will begin withdrawing all of our military forces from every Muslim country in the world, and all our citizens will be told to leave. All of our embassies and consulates in Muslim countries will be permanently closed. All of your United Nations ambassadors and employees will be thrown out of the United States. Guantanamo will be emptied of prisoners, and they will be sent back to whatever hell hole they were captured in. You stay in your world and we will stay in ours. Without exception, if your ships venture outside the 12-mile international limit, they will be sunk without warning. If your planes venture outside your air space, they will be shot out of the sky. Several carrier groups will be permanently stationed in the Mediterranean to enforce compliance. All commercial trade with Muslim countries is permanently suspended. Since you want to live in the 7th century, we will keep our food and all the products that make the modern world possible. All foreign aid that is currently going to Muslim countries will be redirected to Israel. Keep your oil and Persian rugs. We will be instituting a Manhattan Project type program to become energy independent. We have all the oil, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, solar, thermal, and wind resources we need to accomplish this." –LLW

Excerpt: Thirty million people in the streets of Egypt, with the help of the Egyptian military, have saved the United States from the consequences of its disastrous policy of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood since President Barack Obama came to office. Just months after his inauguration in 2009, Mr. Obama appeared in Cairo to address the Muslim world. He ensured that members of the Muslim Brotherhood were seated in the front row of the auditorium at Cairo University. Since the group was still officially banned in Egypt, no one from President Hosni Mubarak’s administration could attend. (The hand wringing over the Egyptian miliary's war on the Muslim Brotherhood is ridiculous except for those who yearn for a caliphate and all it stands for. How would anyone benefit from the victory of jihadists? Certainly not the Egyptians. Certainly not any of its neighbors. Certainly not the U.S., Obama's fantasies notwithstanding. Cordially, Larry Greenberg)

Excerpt: You don’t have to watch her cable network to see Oprah Winfrey these days; the billionaire media powerhouse and occasional actress is busy promoting her new film, “The Butler,” as well as opening up some racial and political divisions in the bargain.

Police: Man with gun told victim to apologize to black people
Excerpt: A man has been charged with malicious harassment and second-degree assault after he pointed a gun at a man in Seattle's Green Lake neighborhood and demanded that he apologize "for all the things white people did to black people," according to prosecutors.

Memo Shows White House Claims Of Mortgage Fraud Were Grossly Exaggerated
Excerpt: The left has long maintained the financial meltdown was a result of greedy bankers fraudulently pushing bad loans on ignorant borrowers. Now, quietly, the administration has admitted that this isn't true. (Wow, as it says in the last line, by the government's own admission, the whole story about widespread mortgage fraud by bankers causing the economic meltdown was false. (Or "exagerrated", but in my view, when the claim was $1,000,000,000 in losses and the reality was $95,000,000 (less than 10% of the claim), that's far enough out to be closer to false than just a bit of exaggeration.) The data were always there, and any kind of competence says the guys at the top knew it or damn well should have known it. But it served their purpose to go with the myth, so they happily did so. It seems that it's not just those greedy capitalists and corrupt GOP politicians who actually try to deceive us on major matters of importance. --Del)

Kevin Rudd support sinks to record low in latest Newspoll
Excerpt: VOTER support for Kevin Rudd has sunk to its lowest level on record, leaving Labor headed for a large election loss with Tony Abbott now virtually equal as preferred prime minister.

The Education Fraud. By John Jaeger
Excerpt: The enduring lie propounded by teachers’ unions throughout America is that more money will produce better results. It hasn’t and it won’t. But the lie has continued for decades to the extent that anyone who does not march in lockstep is called out as “anti-education” or worse. You “hate kids.” Such tactics are simply bullying. They are unprofessional and have no place in the debate.

New ICE Boss: Defense Attorney for Murderers and Pedophiles, Zero Law Enforcement Experience. By John Hill
Excerpt: Former ICE Director John Morton was the worst in history, undermining law enforcement against illegal aliens with his infamous “memos” that gutted the rule of law and provided administrative amnesty for at least 2 million illegal aliens. (Another great choice for dictatorial government. --Del)

Mark Steyn a candidate for U.S. Senate? Daily Caller
Excerpt: “[M]y heart sank somewhat when I read in the Union Leader, I think it was the other day, about those who were preparing to run against Jeanne Shaheen for U.S. Senate seat,” Steyn wrote. “And I wish this state was the way it was 20 years ago, but the New Hampshire Republican Party was too often was content to be in office rather than in power. That’s a problem with the Republican Party generally, I feel.

Idiot Big Brother: The prospect of NSA abuse is now a reality. Mark Steyn
Excerpt: “If you look at the reports,” said President Obama earlier this month, “even the disclosures that Mr. Snowden’s put forward, all the stories that have been written, what you’re not reading about is the government actually abusing these programs and, you know, listening in on people’s phone calls or inappropriately reading people’s e-mails. What you’re hearing about is the prospect that these could be abused.” But that was a week ago.

Speech-to-speech translation: the next move in Mark Zuckerberg's plan to make you a citizen of Facebook. Mic Wright
Excerpt: Zuckerberg’s dreams go way beyond sharing holiday snaps and office chatter. He wants to make Facebook inescapable, the communications platform of this century (and the next). But as he pushes to put his audacious and, at times, deeply unsettling plans into action, he’d do well to remember what else The Hitchhiker’s Guide has to say about the Babel Fish: … the poor Babel Fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.

Sexual Blackmail on Skype: how sadistic crooks drive young people to the point of suicide. By Mic Wright
Excerpt: Blackmailers lure users of both sexes into exposing themselves on camera, believing they are chatting to an attractive woman or man. The images are captured and the threats begin: give us money or we’ll tell your family, your friends, the world [on YouTube]. The fear of being revealed and judged is profound.

Shale gas is Rearden metal. By James Delingpole
Excerpt: Ayn Rand has her faults but, boy, was she prescient. One of the things she foresaw was the current nonsensical, dishonest, canting campaign against shale gas. In Atlas Shrugged it takes the form of Rearden Metal, the miracle technology which is going to transform the US economy if only the progressives will let it.

Unaffiliated. Unauthorized. Unafraid: Canadian Trader Joe's 'pirate' buys goods in Washington state and then sells them in Vancouver for a profit. By Beth Stebner
Excerpt: A Canadian entrepreneur is in hot water for buying massive amounts of Trader Joe's products in Washington state, crossing the border, and selling the booty at a slight profit. Mike Hallatt -- who calls his vagabond Vancouver store "Pirate Joe's" -- claims he's done nothing wrong, and is helping bring Trader Joe's to the Commonwealth. "I'm their best customer," he to the San Francisco Chronicle, adding that he's purchased more than $350,000 worth of Joe-O's, mango salsa, and other goodies.

Google goes down for five minutes on Friday night, global internet traffic drops 40%. By Beth Stebner
Excerpt: According to Topsy analytics, tweets per minute skyrocketed around the point that Google went black, from an average of 200 tweets per minute about Google to more than 1,000. "For five freakin' minutes!" one Twitter user complained. Another wrote, "Google was down for five minutes… Is it a sign that the END OF THE WORLD has started?"

Obama's Secret $8 Billion Bribe To the Muslim Brotherhood
Excerpt: Obama secretly transferred eight billion dollars to the Muslim Brotherhood not the Egyptian government as payment to guarantee that a large portion of the Sinai Peninsula be turned over to the terrorist organization Hamas an avowed enemy of both the United States and Israel.(If true, this smells like treason. --MM)

The Imperial President Will Act on His Own
Excerpt: Obama’s imperial presidency has manifested itself in many ways. Often he willfully neglects his constitutional duty to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” As we’ve seen with education, immigration, and health care, suspending the law amounts to rewriting the law.( Acting more like a dictator than the president of a Constitutional Republic, Obama continues to attempt to change America into a third rate Marxist state. MM)

By Jörg Muth
Excerpt: I have to agree with my historian colleague Robert Goldich that General Dempsey's remarks contain more bad news than good news. Between his lines lies excuses for further cuts in the budget and the emphasis on networking and good relations with the allies appears to be wishful thinking rather than an actual reliable cornerstone for a strategy or force structure. (An excellent commentary by an extremely smart German war historian. And with no dog in the fight, so to speak, his input should be especially valuable. --Del)

Concord: Half of Affordable Care Act call center jobs will be part-time
Excerpt: Now, with two months to go before the Concord operation opens to serve the public, information has surfaced that about half the jobs are part-time, with no health benefits -- a stinging disappointment to workers and local politicians who believed the positions would be full-time.

Study: Using Facebook can make you sad
The research cited in the article suggests that reliance on Facebook may be linked to negative emotions (e.g., worry and loneliness) and overall (dis)satisfaction with life. --BW

Fixing it all, or, losing it all: The Only Options Left for America. By Vic Biorseth
Fixing it all is our only real option now. If we don't fix it all, we will surely lose it all. Things have just gone too far for any piece-meal, item-at-a-time, one-step-at-a-time projects, marching toward the return to American national sanity. The enemy is successfully and rapidly advancing on too many fronts, any one or two of which could bring our whole system down, permanently. No one can stand alone in the breach, like the little Dutch boy with his heroic finger plugging the hole in the dike. There are now too many breaches in the dike. (A very sober commentary on where we are and what we need to do. Some will think it very extreme, but I don't see it as being entirely off base. Heaven knows our society has too many festering problems that add up to desperate need for fixing and a return to higher principles. –Del. Unfortunately, 98% of the people look at any “fix it all” efforts as to how it will impact their own short term self interest. ~Bob.)

Boy, 7, shot putting away bike: 'Kids can't be kids'
Excerpt: Tyvion Jackson had just returned from a picnic and was putting his bike away in the 4200 block of West 5th Avenue around 9 p.m. when he was shot twice in the left side, according to his mother, Tasha McDuffie. (Tyvion, huh. Unless he was wearing a hoodie and was shot by a White Hispanic, none of the race baiters will mention his name ever again. ~Bob.)

4 dead, 15 wounded in shootings across city
If any of the four were killed by white folks, look for a Presidential press conference and a speech here by Al Sharpton. Otherwise, forgotten immediately. ~Bob.

'Elysium' Tanks: Matt Damon New 'King Of The Left-Wing Flops'

Excerpt: But at the meta level, the career of Blomkamp, whose mother dragged the family off from Johannesburg to Vancouver after a 17-year-old friend was shot dead by black carjackers, is one of the funnier pranks played on the American culturati’s hive mind in recent decades. I’ve read over a hundred reviews of Blomkamp’s two movies, and virtually no critic has noticed that he does not share their worldview. Not at all.

Egyptian Democratic Coalition Responds to Obama
Excerpt: The National Salvation Front, a coalition of pro-democratic and secular parties in Egypt, set out its objections to remarks made by President Barack Obama Thursday on the escalating violence in Egypt. Led by Ahmed Said of the Free Egyptians Party, the group issued the following letter: (This letter is a powerful statement by smart people who are fighting for freedom in Egypt, against the fanatics that want to put Sharia Law in place for the society. These are Arab Muslims who got a taste of government by religious fanatics and decided rapidly that this was NOT what they wanted to take over their lives. We should be supporting them. Yes, that means we would be declaring that we are not the bosom buddies of the Muslim Brotherhood. That will precipitate some yelling at us, but in truth the Brotherhood is our enemy, and the people who will yell at us are part of the problem, not of the solution. Time to stand up and be counted, in our own best self-interest. But will it happen? --Del)

Satire gone viral. ~Bob

Excerpt: I’ll confess that although the leftier-than-thou types have always been around, I’ve long been skeptical of the idea that Obama has a core group of supporters from 2008 who really do consider him The One, a shining beacon of light who could do no wrong. But I’m the one who was wrong. I don’t know how many there are, but they’re definitely out there.

The next time some academics tells you how important diversity is, ask how may conservatives there are in their sociology dept -Sowell

Teen suspect 'likes' his pic on police Facebook page
Excerpt: Luis Rodriguez, whose picture is featured on the Huntingdon Beach police Facebook page, seems rather proud of the fact -- which is a pity, because police want him on charges of vandalism.

Saudi Arabia's War on Witchcraft: A special unit of the religious police pursues magical crime aggressively, and the convicted face death sentences. By Ryan Jacobs
Excerpt: The sorceress was naked. The sight of her bare flesh startled the prudish officers of Saudi Arabia's infamous religious police, the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (CPVPV), which had barged into her room in what was supposed to be a routine raid of a magical hideout in the western desert city of Madinah's Al-Seeh neighborhood. They paused in shock, and to let her dress. (Coming soon to a multi-cultural society near you. ~Bob)

Police training called 'anti-Muslim' canceled
Excerpt: Amid protests from a Muslim civil liberties group, local police training officials have called off an anti-terrorism course for officers scheduled for Monday in Lombard that was to have been taught by an instructor the group regards as anti-Muslim.

Muslim Brotherhood must be removed like Nazis, Egypt's ambassador to Britain says
Excerpt: "Morsi was elected president and held office for one year but in that time he tried to make everything Muslim Brotherhood controlled. Egyptian culture over 5,000 years is a mix of religions and civilisations in which the Islamic religion is one ingredient of the Egyptian character," he said. "The Muslim Brotherhood are like a Nazi group that demand that everything changes and people everything to their way."

Number Of Americans Selling Their Food Stamps For Cash Jumps 30%
Well, duh. You can’t use food stamps for alcohol, drugs or tobacco. ~Bob.

Egyptian bloodbath threatens crucial routes for oil and gas supplies. By Garry White and Emma Rowley.
Excerpt: However, Egypt plays a vital role in international energy markets through the operation of the Suez Canal and the Suez-Mediterranean (Sumed) pipeline. These are vital pieces of infrastructure in the global oil market. Last year, about 7pc of all seaborne traded oil and 13pc of liquefied natural gas (LNG) travelled through the Suez Canal, according to data collected by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).
