Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion--who needs newspapers or TV? Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Local Tragedy Update
Previously I reported that on March 30, my wife’s grandson’s God Parents had lost their teenage daughter in a car wreck. I had only met her once, at the grandbaby’s
Christening. I was talking with members of the girl’s family last weekend. The dead woman was actually 23, and the baby she left behind was two. He kept calling “momma” when my wife went to visit. The accident happened at 6:15 am, when the SUV they were in rolled and threw everyone out—there were six in the vehicle. No seatbelt. High speed. And alcohol involved. The family member told us another passenger had died. The driver, 17, will be okay. The family member said he was “an illegal.” They are legal residents from , apparently haven’t gotten the word that using the term “illegal” is racist. I hope the driver never sees daylight again. : The Post-American World War. By Daniel Greenfield Reading
Excerpt: World War III may already be here. The left spent decades warning that our warmongering would bring on a new global war; but it was their peacemongering that did it instead. … And then American power finally collapsed. There had been early warning signs under Carter and Clinton, but with Obama it finally happened.
: Immigration Sophistry: The media have forgotten why there are immigration laws in the first place. By Thomas Sowell Reading
Excerpt: Merely using the word “illegal” to describe their breaking the law is considered to be a sign of mean-spiritedness, if not racism. The Associated Press refuses to let their reporters refer to people who sneaked across the border into this country, in violation of American immigration laws, as illegal immigrants. On the other hand, if an ordinary American citizen breaks a law, no one cares if he has to live in fear for years — “in the shadows,” as it were — worrying that his illegal act will be discovered and punished.
There are conflicting reports over a suspect being arrested in
—or not. TCNN walked back an earlier claim of an arrest. If I get more solid news, I’ll update. If the bomber turns out to be a Muslim, the media will rush to—correctly—point out that doesn’t make all Muslims guilty. If it’s a white male, the media will declare all white males dangerous and violent—except their talking heads. ~Bob. Boston
In my early years in the
Senate, we had several bomb scares at the state house. My staff always evacuated, walking down five flights, then back up. I stayed at my desk. I thought a bomb very unlikely after a warning. And if there were one, they go for the governor or senate or house chambers, not the back bench offices on the fifth floor. ~Bob. Massachusetts
Boston Marathon bombs had simple but harmful design, early clues indicate
Excerpt: The devices’ design was immediately recognized by counterterrorism experts as a type touted by al-Qaeda for use by its operatives around the world. Similar devices have been used by terrorists in mass-casualty bombings in numerous countries, from the Middle East to South Asia to
North Africa. Yet the bomb’s simplicity and garden-variety ingredients complicate the task of determining whether the maker was an international terrorist, a homegrown extremist or a local citizen with a grudge, investigators and experts say. (Al Qaeda published instructions on making pressure cooker bombs in its magazine, but anyone could have used those instructions. I don’t get why no one has claimed responsibility. Why terrorize people unless they know by why and why they are being terrorized? I expected multiple claims of responsibility. ~Bob.)
Excerpt: And they're like the ones that
Times Square jihad bomber Faisal Shahzad was trying to detonate. (But anyone could have read Al Qaeda’s bomb making instructions. ~Bob.)
Interesting: Experts Skeptical Homegrown Terrorists Were Behind
Excerpt: In Monday’s case, though, the target was not a federal building or the IRS. This bombing at the Boston Marathon, experts say, doesn’t fit with the previous attacks from Patriot Movement types. “When you think about it, the target is not clear,” said Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center. “What the target was not was the government, or the IRS, or a minority group—black people, gay people, Muslims, immigrants, Latinos, and so on. It wasn’t targeted at any sort of specific subgroup.” Mark Pitcavage, the director of investigative research for the Anti-Defamation League, agreed, saying this target didn’t feel like the work of extreme right-wing terrorists since it had no clear connection to the government.
America’s Empty Slogan: ‘See Something, Say Something.’ Watchdogs who stuck out their necks are accused of racism. By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: In post-9/11 America, the truth is that our politically correct guardians only want you to see, say, or do something if it can’t be construed by grievance-mongers as racist, sexist, Islamophobic, homophobic, nativist or any other “-ist” or “-ic.”
Advertisement Face it: We live in a self-defeating culture that pays lip service to heroic action in times of crisis, yet brutally punishes the very kind of snap judgments and instant security-profiling that make such heroism possible in the first place. (Lots of folks around Maj. Nidal Hasan knew he had “gone Jihadist” from his statements and actions, but didn’t dare say anything, because a charge of “Islamophobia” is career ending. So 13 died in his little Jihad. ~Bob.)
attack on gun culture: ’2nd amendment must go’ Boston
Excerpt: “What bothers me most about today is that we’re getting used 2 it. ENOUGH. 2nd amendment must go. Violence has 2 stop. Culture MUST change,” the Jerry Maguire actor tweeted. (I’m not aware of the court ruling that Pressure Cooker Bombs are protected by the Second Amendment. Maybe he’s a legal scholar. ~Bob.)
Excerpt: These types of pressure cooker explosives have been used in
Afghanistan, India, Nepal and , according to a July 2010 joint FBI and Homeland Security intelligence report. One of the three devices used in the May 2010 Pakistan Times Square attempted bombing was a pressure cooker, the intelligence report said. (Is it time to outlaw pressure cookers, ball bearings, and nails? Surely we should at least get background checks on purchases of all pressure cookers and consider registering all present owners. Also more amnesty for illegal's especially from Afghanistan, India, Nepal and . MM) Pakistan
Salon writer: ‘Let’s hope
Boston Marathon bomber is a white American’
Excerpt: The liberal online magazine Salon published an opinion piece Tuesday evening by columnist David Sirota entitled, “Let’s hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American.” (Let’s hope that the evil person or person behind this is caught and shot, regardless if white, black, brown, yellow, red or green. ~Bob.)
I believe I can detect a pattern here, and not the one the writers of this article were thinking about. If you'll notice, of the five major mid-April incidents, four happened while a Democrat was in the White House. That leads me to an undeniable cosmic truth:
is 80% more likely to experience large scale violent crimes under a Democrat president's watch than under a Republican's. – LLW America

Abortion doctor’s trial focuses on immigrant’s death after procedure
Excerpt: Yashoda Gurung wept softly Tuesday as she stared at a photograph of her smiling mother, who prosecutors say survived two decades in a refugee camp in
Nepal only to die under the reckless care of a Philadelphia abortion provider soon after coming to . (She meant to choose death for the unborn baby, but chose it for herself as well. Her body, her choice, ~Bob.) America

Roofers union calls for Obamacare’s repeal
Excerpt: The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers is reportedly the first union to officially call for repeal of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare. The health care law is prompting some serious buyer’s remorse in Big Labor, which worked hard on behalf of the administration to pass it: (So now we start to have more organizations apply to opt out of Obamacare. Remember, at last count several hundred had already applied for exemption, and many of them were unions. As more and more of "what's in it" is revealed, we'll see more and more unhappy organizations and individuals. Now why could that be? Maybe because it has a whole rank of problems and difficulties in it for anyone/everyone to encounter? Could be, since the Administration has already sad that thousands of special helpers will have to be hired and trained, so they can help people figure out how to really enroll in Obamacare. This just keeps getting better. --
The Gosnell case: Here’s what you need to know. By Sarah Kliff
Excerpt: When I described the case of abortion provider Kermit Gosnell on Twitter last week as a local crime story, I was clearly wrong. The egregious and horrifying crimes committed in the physician’s
West Philadelphia abortion clinic have become a matter of national attention. (OK, a week ago someone zinged this reporter for the Washington Post on her lack of coverage of the murder trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Which had first been noted in the news a year ago, on Fox, but had never been covered in the MSM since. When she twittered that she didn't cover local crime cases, a heavy rain of sarcasm and outright rebuttals fell on her, as well as on other MSM reporters. Fox and the Internet would not let the story die, and finally, with enormous effort, the media apparatus started dragging its butt out of the recliner and started to do actual reporting. (Wow!) Ms. Kliff, to her belated credit, has filed a detailed report on the case, which you can read below. It is a total horror story, and a scathing indictment of the PA state agencies that supposedly exist exactly to prevent such awful situations. Interestingly, pro-choice activists think this case strengthens the need for more abortion clinics. Everyone else sees this as a horrifying situation that should cost a bunch of state people their jobs, and jail for the doctor and probably some of his subordinates. And maybe for PA to reconsider the limit of 24 weeks for abortions. That's the end of the second trimester, by which time the growing fetus looks pretty much like a very small baby. Our technology routinely saves babies born at 2 pounds weight, a point reached sometime before 6 months. But this man (I really hate to refer to him as a doctor) was slamming the point of a scissors into the back of the necks of babies born at six months or a bit past that, and weighing at least 2 pounds. I find myself revolted at the mental image of what that looks like. I hope they burn this guy and he spends the rest of his life in jail, along with some of his helpers. And maybe some state employees get burned too. And from now on the agencies in charge of checking on abortion clinics take that job very, very seriously. Even the pro-choice people should chime in on that. Oh, and the big media people should just maybe consider really doing their job, even when the business involved happens to be one that Liberals generally support. -- ) Del
The darkest side of abortion. By Jonah Goldberg
Excerpt: If abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell is found guilty of homicide, he’ll be unique among murderers-for-hire: He set his fees based on weight. “The bigger the baby, the more he charged,” a grand jury explained. It recommended he be charged with eight counts of murder — one patient, seven babies.
General backs off call for more troops in
than Obama has sought Afghanistan
Excerpt: The top
U.S. commander in Afghanistan on Tuesday backed off claims that the will need a substantially larger post-war force than President Obama is seeking. Gen. Joseph Dunford said it’s too early to tell whether United States will need the more than 13,000 troops that he had previously recommended remain in the country after 2014. Letter sent to Obama tests positive for ricin, FBI says

Representative Jackson Lee: “Don’t Condemn The Gangbangers,” It’s The Guns’ Fault
Excerpt: She pleaded with fellow lawmakers to run to the defense of the gangbangers, telling them that it’s not the criminals’ fault. It’s that we don’t have more laws restricting guns: “Don’t condemn the gangbangers, they’ve got guns that are trafficked — that are not enforced, that are straw purchased and they come into places even that have strong gun laws. (Just part of personal-responsibility-free-America. Nothing is your fault. It’s the guns. Or the drugs. Or the booze. Or society. Or your childhood. And evil behavior makes you a victim, entitled to sympathy, not a perpetrator of evil. ~Bob.)

A Warning to All Gun Bloggers and Forums –
Boston Marathon Explosions
Excerpt: Please be aware that there are what we call “Bloomberg shills” lurking in the comments of gun blogs and forums at present. It has been going on since before the election, and we first noticed it as far back as our January 8th, 2012 article “2nd Amendment Voters Should Vote Ron Paul.” At first it seemed like fun because they got a lively discussion going, and many of our articles have over 400 comments just because of a few anti-gun comments peppered in by a shill here and there. But as more and more of them have come in, we have begun to realize that it is better to delete them. The anti-gunners have a plan, and that plan is to make gun people look stupid, heartless, and separate from the values of mainstream
. A recent “whistleblower” post about the Boston Marathon explosions is especially troubling. If you are part of a gun blog or forum, please don’t allow this post to spread, and beware that more attempts to make 2nd Amendment defenders look bad are coming. America
Death Tax Made More Deadly
Excerpt: An abiding lesson of the Obama Presidency is that no tax increase is ever enough. So it's not surprising that the President's new budget includes an increase in the death tax only three months after the last increase.
Common Core Quietly Nationalizing Education. By Tad Cronn
Excerpt: All across the
United States, schools are falling in line with a federally backed “progressive” curriculum that critics fear will only produce generations of know-nothings and ensure ’s education system continues to fail its students. (There have been several articles about Common Core and the lessons it wants to push on students. Examples are dropping classic literature texts in favor of reading Mr. Obama's Executive Orders, and other official writings that will somehow better prepare students for life in the real world. Exercises like the one mentioned, where students have to figure out how to write that Jews are evil as if the students were living in German under the Nazis, are wonderfully creative, but coming from a mind that has no understanding of how such an exercise will be seen by parents and most people. Using federal dollars (when we're cutting back?) to push all schools into a one-size-fits-all program for education is seen by some as a great idea, to push uniformity of education in our society. But that raises enormous questions about what kind of uniformity the authors of the program have in mind. People in that position have such enormous power that common sense would demand some sort of check-and-balance mechanism where others, such as very experienced educators and also representative of community values, get to have input on the details of the program. That situation does not exist now, so I hope the opposition to Common Core will grow and force reviews. – America The like know nothing students because they depend on no nothing voters. But they, in fact all of us, are soon going to reap what they have sown. ~Bob.) Del.
Banning/registering pressure cookers is racist!
When I was a kid, growing up back in the early 1950's, my grandma and I used to fish the rivers and ponds around
. One time, we were fishing alongside an old black man who was fishing for carp, and I asked him why he was keeping them, since they were too bony to eat. He told us that if you cooked them in a pressure cooker first, it softened the bones and you could then fry them up like you did salmon patties. He said during the depression, his family pretty much lived on poke salad, cornbread, and whatever fish they could catch, including carp. So, banning pressure cookers would obviously be racist. –LLW Wetumka, Oklahoma
Police Buried Trayvon's Criminal History. By Jack Cashill
Excerpt: “Oh, God, oh, my God, oh, God,” one major reportedly said when first looking at Martin’s data. He realized that Martin had been suspended twice already that school year for offenses that should have gotten him arrested – once for getting caught with a burglary tool and a dozen items of female jewelry, the second time for getting caught with marijuana and a marijuana pipe. (WND always has their hair on fire and spins things their way, so I read skeptically until I see confirmation. Still, interesting info. ~Bob.)
Price Versus Cost. By Walter E. Williams
Excerpt: Suppose you buy a gallon of gas for $3. How much did it cost you? You say, "Williams, that's a silly question. It cost $3." That's where you're mistaken, because there's a difference between price and cost. To prove that price and cost are not the same, consider the following. Suppose you live and work in
and routinely pay $15 for a haircut. Imagine you were told that there's a barber in New York City , who can give you the identical haircut for just $5. Would you start going to the Boise, Idaho barber? I'm betting you'd answer no because even though the price is cheaper, the cost is greater. (If he keeps educating Americans about economics, Dr. Williams could wreck the Democrat party. He must be stopped! ~Bob) Boise

Rep. Pete King: Merchants Selling Ball Bearings, Beauty Products 'Should Notify Police'
Excerpt: Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.), a member of both the House Homeland Security Committee and the House Intelligence Committee, wants retailers to tell police about people who buy innocuous items that could be used to make a bomb. (Welcome to the new
Soviet Union. It won't be long until government "schools" will be teaching children to turn in their parents if they suspect them of un-soviet-like activities, if they aren't already. Is that really a stretch? After all, they are already telling us that our children don't belong to us, but to the state. And Obama is trying to have their indoctrination begin as early as age four. – LLW. I’m staking out Walmart for pressure cookers and Home Depot for nails, bolts, and of course hammers, which are used in more murders than rifles. Then I gotta go to Office Max to catch people buying envelopes to put ricin in. The police are going to get tired of hearing from me, but if it saves just one life…~Bob.)
Woman charged with capital murder in Texas prosecutor killings
The wife of a former judge is charged with capital murder in connection with the killings of a North Texas district attorney, his wife and an assistant prosecutor. The charge Wednesday against Kim Lene Williams is the latest twist in an investigation that had recently focused on her husband. Kim Williams' husband, Eric Williams, was arrested Saturday and is being held on a $3 million dollar bond for a terroristic threat charge and bond revocations related to a pending theft case, MyFoxDFW.com reported. (Charges supposedly cover McLelland and his wife and his asst district attorney, Hasse, who was killed earlier. Williams purportedly lost his job for stealing 3 computer monitors. –Barb. A Third Way to Address the Iranian: Threat Support the opposition and let Iranians topple a regime they despise. By Michael Ledeen
