Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for January 8, 2013

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for January 8, 2013
Robert A. Hall

Reminder: President Obama’s Pledge Never to Raise Taxes on Anyone Making Less Than $250,000 a Year
I intend to remind people of this often. I knew at the time hat it was an outrageous Chicago-style political lie, and thought anyone who believed it was so dangerously naive as to be adjudged mentally enfeebled. So we had the cigarette tax and the tanning tax. Do only those making over $250k use those services? Now comes $1 trillion in new ObamaCare taxes, plus $620 in new "fiscal cliff" taxes (for $15B in promised cuts that are unlikely to happen), almost all of which will come out of the middleclass, though they did preserve the liberal-hated Bush tax cuts for some of the middleclass. When business pay a tax, they get the money from customers or, including the elderly living on fixed incomes and everyone with an IRA, 401k or pension fund. Most of these folks are NOT "millionaires and billionaires." They missed any chance to fix Medicare and Social Security, which are now sure to collapse as soon as the borrowing power runs out. They guaranteed continuing high deficits, thus a fiscal collapse. I think they trashed the weak recovery and we will be in a sharp recession in two years. At that point, they will blame Bush and the Republicans, and discover the rich--now anyone making over $75k, still aren't "paying their fair share." This will not end well "Democracy," said H. L. Mencken, "is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard." Boy, are they going to get it. ~Bob.

Democrats look for up to $1 trillion in new tax revenues this year. By Alexander Bolton
Excerpt: Democrats say they want to raise as much as $1 trillion in new revenues through tax reform later this year to balance Republican demands to slash mandatory spending. (There are now reports that the Administration wants another one trillion in new taxes. Does anyone know how long it takes America to simply generate one trillion dollars in new income? How much would be left over for evil purposes such as reinvestment, funding pensions, R&D, payroll, insurance and health benefits? Tom H. Don’t worry. Remember Obama’s promise. They will only go after the “millionaires and billionaires” he said during the campaign aren’t paying their “fair share.” ~Bob.)

Pelosi: More tax revenues must be part of next deficit deal. By Mike Lillis
Excerpt: Pushing back against the Republicans' deficit-reduction strategy, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said this weekend that more tax revenues – not just spending cuts – must be a part of Congress's effort to rein in deficits. (Like the Democrats of the Old South, who always thought the slaves didn’t work hard enough, today’s Democrats will never think you are paying your “fair share.” ~Bob.)

Reminder: Why the Rich Should be Taxed More

Important: Social Security: It’s Worse Than You Think. By Gary King and Samir S. Soneji
Excerpt: What’s not is that the Social Security Administration underestimates how long Americans will live and how much the trust funds will need to pay out — to the tune of $800 billion by 2031, more than the current annual defense budget — and that the trust funds will run out, if nothing is done, two years earlier than the government has predicted. (And the “Trust Fund” consists of special government bonds—IOUs—that cannot be sold, only redeemed. If they have the money. When the NYT is worried, maybe it’s time to worry? ~Bob.)

New Iran sanctions target industry in bid for deal curbing nuclear program
Excerpt: While some previous U.S. sanctions targeted individuals and firms linked to Iran’s nuclear industry, the new policies are closer to a true trade embargo, designed to systematically attack and undercut Iran’s major financial pillars and threaten the country with economic collapse, the officials say. (They will talk and talk to buy time. But like strategic bombing, sanctions are a weapon that never seems to fulfill the promises made by proponents. Which should not be taken to mean I’m always against bombing. ~Bob.)

The New Iranian Hostage Crisis, By Michael Ledeen
Excerpt: Over and over again, we are told that direct U.S.-Iranian negotiations would be a radical departure from past practice, and might decisively improve the “relationship.”
Both claims are false.

Heitkamp: Reported Obama gun-control proposals ‘extreme.’ By Meghashyam Mali
Excerpt: Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) on Sunday panned the White House’s reported gun-control proposals as “extreme.” (Huh. A Democrat “Bitter Clinger.” If they find out she believes in God too, she’s outta there! ~Bob.)

The Risky Mortgage Business: The Problem with the 30-Year Fixed-Rate Mortgage. By Arnold Kling
Excerpt: The firms that supply funds for this mortgage product are faced with a choice. Either they must find a way to offload risk, ultimately to the taxpayers, or they must charge a sufficiently high interest rate so that, on average, the profits in a relatively stable interest-rate environment offset the losses that are incurred when rates go through periods of volatility. Policymakers should be concerned about the risk borne by taxpayers. One would not be troubled by the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage if it were an emergent property of free markets.

Excerpt: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi shared her own idea Sunday on how to avoid a government shutdown should the Republican House and President Barack Obama find themselves unable to reach an agreement on raising the debt ceiling: invoke the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. (I guess they don’t think there will ever be a GOP President again, who will use all this sidestepping Congress against them. ~Bob.)

Pelosi, Reid Back Obama Raising Debt Ceiling Via Executive Order
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has reportedly told President Barack Obama that he would back the president overriding congressional authority and unilaterally raising the debt ceiling. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was more forceful: “I’ve made my view very clear on that subject: I would do it in a second.” …..Such a move would spark a constitutional crisis by running roughshod over the 14thAmendment, which states that “the validity of the public debt…shall not be questioned.”

A Contrary View: Fiscal Cliff Deal a Win for Republicans and America. By Mike Razar
http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/01/a_contrary_view_small_win_for_republicans_and_america.html#ixzz2HJ7YvPDr
Excerpt: As a recent critic myself of Republican leadership, I would like to congratulate Speaker Boehner, Leader Cantor and the entire Republican leadership in the House and the Senate. They have succeeded in luring the President and his minions into a deal they will come to regret. (Initially I was pissed that we yielded to any tax hikes. After considering the alternatives I believe we did the best we could and now have a chance to have the advantage on our side for the debt ceiling talks. All this is an ultimate waste of time unless we scrap the present tax code and start with a clean sheet. –Steve.)

Excerpt: Other possible factors - from violent video games to the "failure of our mental-health system" to the unintended consequences of making schools "gun-free zones" - have taken a back seat to guns. … But where, I'd like to ask my colleagues in the media, is the reporting about the psychiatric medications the perpetrator - who had been under treatment for mental-health problems - may have been taking? (ell, Obama can't afford to give his bosses in Big Pharma look bad, and the media respect his right to manipulate the news all he wants. Elections have consequences, after all. --Don Hank)

The Battle of Athens August 1946
Excerpt: The Battle of Athens clearly shows: how Americans can and should lawfully use armed force; why the Rule of Law requires unrestricted access to firearms; how civilians with military-type firearms can beat the forces of "law and order". (Funny, but I don't remember reading about this or being taught about it in my high school state history class. --MasterGuns)

How college students think they are more special than EVER: Study reveals rocketing sense of entitlement on U.S. campuses
Excerpt: Books aside, if you asked a college freshman today who the Greatest Generation is, they might respond by pointing in a mirror. Young people's unprecedented level of self-infatuation was revealed in a new analysis of the American Freshman Survey, which has been asking students to rate themselves compared to their peers since 1966. (Of course, that doesn't mean they actually have real skills or knowledge, but they sure feel good about themselves and how great they are. This means a lot of them will have a painful collision with reality once they leave the campus and go out into the real world. Whether they will toughen up and get real, or just become disillusioned and bitter, is an open question. –Del. “Don’t know much about history….” They are increasingly ignorant of civics, economics and history, and reality will extract a terrible price from the Obama Generation. ~Bob.)

Will Egypt become a totalitarian state? By Robert R. Reilly
Excerpt: The Muslim Brotherhood has made another giant step forward in consolidating its rule in Egypt through the successful passage of the newly drafted constitution by some 64 percent of those who voted. Next come the parliamentary elections in two months through which the Brotherhood will regain control of the legislative branch. In the interim, it has stacked the upper house of Parliament, called the Shura Council, with its own members who will have the power to legislate until the new lower house is elected. (Yes, making it the envy of Progressives everywhere. ~Bob.)

Republicans Unfairly Criticized About Black Outreach. By Frances Rice
Excerpt: In order to solve the problem of so few blacks in the Republican Party, the root cause of the problem must be understood. Democrats first used brutality and discriminatory laws to stop blacks from voting for Republicans. From 1865 to about 1910, Democrats killed 3,000 Republicans, 2,000 of whom were black. (Frances Rice is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and Chairman of the National Black Republican Association.)

Congressman Puts Forward Resolution To End Term Limits On Presidency
http://freedomoutpost.com/2013/01/congressman-puts-forward-resolution-to-end-term-limits-on-presidency/
Excerpt: Congressman Jose Serrano (D-NY) put forth a House resolution that would repeal the twenty-second article of amendment to the United States Constitution on Friday. This would effectively remove term limits on the Presidency should it be ratified by three-fourths of the States. It has currently been sent to the House Judiciary Committee. The resolution would also have to pass both houses of Congress by two-thirds in each house. (Be afraid, very, very afraid. –Jer. Has less chance of passage than my living to 110. ~Bob.)

Welfare recipients take out cash at strip clubs, liquor stores and X-rated shops
They’re on the dole — and watching the pole. Welfare recipients took out cash at bars, liquor stores, X-rated video shops, hookah parlors and even strip clubs — where they presumably spent their taxpayer money on lap dances rather than diapers, a Post investigation found. (Actually, this is nothing new at all. After Katrina, the New Orleans residents relocated temporarily to New England were cashing in their benefit cards at the Indian casinos. Oddly enough, it seems not all the people receiving social benefits are really responsible, fiscally prudent people. –Del. As long as they vote right…. ~Bob.)

Obama Tax Hike To Hit $30,000 Worker Harder than $500,000 Earner
Last week, President Barack Obama said that under his fiscal cliff deal “more than 98% of Americans and 97% of small businesses will not see their income taxes go up.” But according to new figures from the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, that’s not so—by a long shot. … Middle-class workers making between $30,000 and $200,000 will pay up to $1,784 more, a larger percentage increase than for those earning between $200,000 and $500,000. (Surprise, surprise, Gomer. I’m waiting for taxes on government benefits of free phones, food stamps, disability payments …let’s add in that 47% that is taking a free ride and truly equalize the consequences. –Barb.)

Excerpt: However, if the cost of the one family vacation upsets you like it did me, wait till you see the grand total cost to taxpayers for a whole year of supporting the First Family in White House. (I’m not sure about the numbers. Opponents tend to inflate, supporters to minimize. But it might be cheaper to offer them a buy out. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: In opposing President Clinton’s nomination of James Hormel — spawn of Spam (the Hormel meat family) and large Democratic contributor — to be ambassador to Luxembourg in 1997, Hagel, then a Republican senator from Nebraska, said that an “openly, aggressively gay” man should not represent the United States. (If a Bush nominee had said these things, the Media would have gone nuts. ~Bob.)

Iran State TV Praises Obama’s ‘anti-Israel’ Hagel selection
Excerpt: Iran’s state-run Press TV praised President Barack Obama for his likely selection of the “anti-Israel” former Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel to head the Defense Department, according to a report published Saturday.

The Education of John Boehner. By Stephen Moore
Excerpt: What stunned House Speaker John Boehner more than anything else during his prolonged closed-door budget negotiations with Barack Obama was this revelation: "At one point several weeks ago," Mr. Boehner says, "the president said to me, 'We don't have a spending problem.' "

Brutal Cold Waves Could be Heading for the U.S. By Alex Sosnowski
Excerpt: Beginning near or just past the middle of the month, signs are pointing toward waves of frigid air moving southward across North America from the North Pole. (I hope not. The Democrats promised me global warming and I want some! ~Bob.)

A Letter From Lance Armstrong. By Dan Bernstein
Excerpt: Hey, folks. It’s me, Lance. How’s it going? First, I just want to say thanks for buying all of the yellow bracelets and all the products I’ve endorsed. I really appreciate it, because it’s been, like, hundreds of millions of dollars. And thanks for not noticing or caring when the American Institute for Philanthropy reported that my foundation spent as much as $45 to raise each $100. I’m sure you understand that charity work can be expensive!

Obama supporters shocked, angry at new tax increases. By Joseph Curl
Excerpt: Democrats who supported the president’s re-election just had NO idea that his steadfast pledge to raise taxes meant that he was really going to raise taxes. They thought he planned to just hit those filthy “1 percenters,” you know, the ones who earned fortunes through their inventiveness and hard work. They thought the free ride would continue forever.

Excerpt: Things aren’t going so well for Obamacare. Even Democrats in Congress aren’t huge fans any more. It seems after passing the law and finding out what’s in it, the allure has faded—so much so that Congress actually repealed part of Obamacare in the fiscal cliff deal last week. That’s right—part of Obamacare has been completely undone.

Reprisal fears cloud Libya probe into US consulate attack
Excerpt: Libya is pushing forward with its investigation into the deadly September 11 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, but fear of retaliation by Islamist extremists has proved a hurdle.

Special report: Female genital mutilation - unreported, ignored and unpunished: Ten years after new legislation, still no one has been charged. Brian Brady, Paul Cahalan
The War on Women Progressives love to ignore. ~Bob. Excerpt: The failure to punish anyone for carrying out female genital mutilation (FGM) in almost a decade since Labour introduced a new law designed to stamp out the practice is forcing prosecutors to seek alternative methods to tackle the problem. The Government was facing growing criticism from campaigners after an Independent on Sunday investigation into the horrifying practice known as "cutting", in which the genitals of women and girls are severed by unqualified people in the belief it will preserve the girl's virginity.

Hitler statue in Holocaust site stirs controversy
Unbelievable. But in the US, it would qualify for taxpayer funds to support “The Arts.” ~Bob.

Excerpt: “The violence puts Mrs. Kirchner in a difficult position as the poor are [her] core constituents...Her government spends billions of dollars a year to help low income families, including free health care...[Yet] Argentine activists who claim to represent the poor traditionally block access to supermarkets in the month of December to demand free food and other items.

Residents Alerted to Obamas' Hawaiian Holiday Plans
Excerpt: In addition, the President's caravan of at least 22 vehicles including an ambulance can easily overwhelm the community that typically has single lane streets. Adding to the controversy surrounding the President's visit is the cost of the trip. With the staff, special forces, local police presence and equipment, the President's visit adds up annually to at least a $4 million vacation courtesy of the Hawaii and federal taxpayers. (This article details the accounting. –Barb.)

How Did Harry Reid Get Rich? His career in public service has ended up being remarkably lucrative. By Betsy Woodruff
Excerpt: You probably wouldn’t expect him to have millions in stocks, bonds, and real estate. But, surprise, he does, if he’s our Senate majority leader, whose net worth is between 3 and 10 million dollars, according to OpenSecrets.org. …..He hasn’t released his tax returns, which makes this an imperfect science, but looking at a few of his investments helps to show how he amassed his wealth. (He sure did fuss about Romney’s tax returns…..Pot calling the kettle (er, hum) black. Hey, he’s from Nevada. –Barb.)

Expensive massages, top shelf vodka and five-star hotels: First Lady accused of spending $10m in public money on her vacations
excerpt: The Obamas' summer break on Martha's Vineyard has already been branded a PR disaster after the couple arrived four hours apart on separate government jets. But according to new reports, this is the least of their extravagances. White House sources today claimed that the First Lady has spent $10million of U.S. taxpayers' money on vacations alone in the past year. (What, no bread? Let them eat cake…Barb.)

U.S. Sued Over Michelle's Secretive 'Family Outing' 'How much did the American people spend to send the first lady' on safari?
Excerpt: Judicial Watch has filed a lawsuit over the federal government’s refusal to disclose how much taxpayers spent to send Michelle Obama on a “family outing” that included a safari in Africa…… “However, accompanied by her daughters Malia and Sasha, her mother, Marian Robinson, and her niece and nephew, Leslie and Avery Robinson, the trip also included such tourist events as visits to historical landmarks and museums as well as a visit with Nelson Mandela,” the Judicial Watch report said. “The trip ended with a private family safari at a South African game reserve before the group returned to Washington on June 27,” Judicial Watch said.

Obama Gives Illegal Aliens Happy New Year
Excerpt: It will be a very happy new year for illegal immigrants thanks to several Obama initiatives, including the cancellation of an effective federal-local immigration enforcement program, slashing the number of deportations and the extension of a controversial hurricane amnesty. The president even signed a rare private bill a few days ago to grant a Nigerian immigrant living in Michigan with an expired visa permanent U.S. residency.

U.S. Spends $40 Mil on Foreign Labor Causes in Final Days of 2012
Excerpt: With 12 million Americans out of work the government agency responsible for advancing opportunities for profitable employment has gone on a frantic year-end spending spree, doling out tens of millions of dollars to foreign causes that won’t put a dent in the nation’s unemployment crisis. In the last few weeks of 2012, the Obama Department of Labor (DOL) generously dedicated nearly $40 million to global initiatives unlikely to help workers in this country. The money will go to efforts that strengthen unions and help combat child labor in African, central and South American countries.

Democratic Rep: Debt-ceiling blank check is like Emancipation Proclamation
http://conservativebyte.com/2013/01/democratic-rep-debt-ceiling-blank-check-is-like-emancipation-proclamation/
Excerpt: Democratic Illinois Rep. Danny K. Davis told The Daily Caller that President Obama should have the power to raise the nation’s debt ceiling without congressional approval, citing the example of President Abraham Lincoln issuing the Emancipation Proclamation as a good use of presidential authority. (More like permanent debt slavery for the grandkids. ~Bob.)

Former ACORN Director Gets $445 Mil From U.S. Treasury
Excerpt: The Obama Administration has given a former director at the scandal-plagued Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) nearly half a billion dollars to offer “struggling” Illinois homeowners mortgage assistance, a Judicial Watch investigation has found.

Excerpt: Last Saturday, a deranged woman pushed a man in front of a subway train in New York and killed him, explaining that she did it because of her anger with Muslims ever since 9/11. Immediately, leftist and Islamic-supremacist writers swung into action to blame the murder on what they called an “Islamophobia industry,” despite the killer’s obvious insanity and history of violent attacks on random people. The attacks revealed much about the use of the term “Islamophobia” as a propaganda tool designed to shut down thinking.

Excerpt: “The state Attorney General’s Office blamed the U.S. Department of Justice for the high cost of the case. They accused the federal government of delaying the case by 120 days by filing numerous frivolous motions, including challenging the 12-point font size on a document the state filed….Of course, had the president’s base remained asleep, Perez and Colangelo would be looking for work, with the former earning a slippery reputation over the last four years.

Obama’s ‘Cash For Clunkers’ Unleashed ‘Environmental Nightmare’
Excerpt: In a classic tale illustrating the “law of unintended consequences,” a new report concludes that President Barack Obama’s $3 billion “Cash for Clunkers” taxpayer-funded boondoggle artificially drove car prices up, not down, and unleashed an “environmental nightmare” through shredding, not recycling, many of the 690,000 cars people traded in for an up to $4,500 car credit….As the Washington Post even conceded, Mr. Obama’s Cash for Clunkers scheme was an economic and environmental failure: “So were the naysayers right?” asked the Post. “It seems so.”

The 12 Lawmakers Who Didn’t Support Boehner
Excerpt: The conservative revolt against John Boehner's leadership failed to block his reelection as Speaker. … A dozen of Boehner's colleagues very publicly either voted for someone else for Speaker or chose not to vote. …..Three of the votes against Boehner came from the four members purged from committees; Reps. Tim Huelskamp, Justin Amash and Walter Jones. Veteran Reps. Louie Gohmert and Paul Broun voted for Allen West. (Though West was not reelected, the Speaker does not have to be a member of Congress. He would have been great in a 1:1 with O. –Barb.)

Excerpt: Very interesting analysis using FBI & UK Home Office data... probably some real eye-openers for several folks. Well worth the 6 min 36 sec run time. (This video is a great example of doing legitimate research using unbiased statistics. I only wish the originator had gone even further into the available data, since there is even more important learning to be accomplished there. And an interesting side note- the bulk of murders committed in the UK involved knives, so now there's been a call for the manufacturers of kitchen knives to stop making any that come to a point. That'll surely drop the murder rate, won't it? (Hmm... I guess nobody against pointed knives knows that most of the time killers slash others repeatedly, which is how you kill someone with only a box cutter.) The important point made is that most violent crime comes from high population density areas in big cities. So this kind of violence is largely a social problem, and will only be decreased if the social problems in such areas are better dealt with. --Del)

Connecticut to issue driver's licenses to young people under 'deferred action' immigration program
Excerpt: The state will issue driver’s licenses to young people who qualify for a new “deferred action” immigration enforcement program that President Barack Obama announced in August. … But the group, Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut, will continue to pursue changes in the law and try to convince the state to ultimately grant access to a driver’s license to all residents, regardless of immigration status, the Rev. James Manship told over 400 people gathered at St. Rose of Lima Church in the Fair Haven section. (I love the Register…don’t miss the comments at the bottom. --George)

Teacher's Invention Won't Stop Shootings but Can Keep Students Safer
There’s no excerpt because there’s no text, this is video only. Capitalism produces responses to needs quicker and cheaper than any other political-economic system. In the process of doing so, it creates wealth. Here’s visible proof. --Ron P.

I Am a Peaceful AR-15 Assault Rifle Owner, by Marc J. Victor
Excerpt: I can’t think of any reason I need to own my AR-15 assault rifle. I don’t pretend to need it for self defense. I also own several handguns. Any one of my handguns would be adequate to allow me an opportunity to defend myself, or another person, from virtually any act of aggression by another individual. Indeed, I could have easily halted any of the recent gun based rampages, by any of those deranged lunatics, with just one of my handguns. I wish I had been there.

Excerpt: For the last five years, those who spend their time procrastinating on Wikipedia could read up on a 17th century war between colonial Portugal and India’s Maratham Empire known as the “Bicholim Conflict.” The problem is that Bicholim Conflict never happened, and that the entire 4,500-word article on the war was nothing more than an elaborate joke.

Wind farms vs wildlife: The shocking environmental cost of renewable energy. Clive Hambler
Excerpt: Wind turbines only last for ‘half as long as previously thought’, according to a new study. But even in their short lifespans, those turbines can do a lot of damage. Wind farms are devastating populations of rare birds and bats across the world, driving some to the point of extinction. (Birds used to matter to Greenies, back when they decided to sacrifice several million black, brown and yellow third-world kids to Malaria by banning DDT to save the birds. No longer. ~Bob.)

Not in a giving mood for O
Excerpt: The number of inaugural balls this year where the president and Michelle Obama will appear has sharply dwindled from 10 to two. And donors have also dropped, sources say. “Some on the presidential inaugural committee are starting to seriously worry,” said a political insider. (They’ll blame racism. ~Bob.)

Update on a story and picture I posted that may be false. ~Bob
Christian burning in Nigeria (still controversial)
Our thanks to all of those (in the US and UK) who have contributed to our research into the story of the Nigerian Christian burning. Now there is some doubt about the latest report of Christians burnt alive in Nigeria. Sadly, there are lots of fake photos and reports out there, and despite the fact that this story was picked up by blogs in the Congo, in Rome, in South America and Spain, it still needs to be viewed critically. Now it turns out some blogs are claiming the photo came from a gas truck accident that occurred in the Congo in 2010. The problem is, unless I am mistaken, all of the blogs that report this as true are quoting Padre Juan in Spain. Therefore, the re-postings, though in various languages, do not provide any additional confirmation. Our thanks to Francis for this blog article intended to debunk the story:
You will note that, although this site alleges the photo came from the Congolese tragedy, it does not prove that the story is incorrect, merely alleging that the photo does not match the story. The question now becomes: how did the Padre find out about this? I had assumed that, as a Catholic priest, he had heard of it from his missionary contacts. But now I am not sure. On the other hand, we know that church burnings are a common pastime among Muslims in Nigeria and other countries, and that is undeniable. The possibility that this photo is a mismatch for the story could really detract from the fact that churches and Christians are burned rather routinely by Muslims in Sub-Saharan Africa. Here, for example, is a report of 50 Christians burned alive in Nigeria (our thanks to Peter for this):
I will continue to research this but am forced to admit that what I called 'confirmation' is not exactly confirmation after all. The take-away: We are all at the mercy of our sources. The msm are untrustworthy because they have the agenda of supporting the official PC viewpoint. But bloggers often fail to do due diligence. Hoaxes or incorrectly reported information can hurt the cause and may lead some people to trust the msm more than it deserves to be trusted. That may be the whole purpose behind many such hoaxes. There is an Italian proverb: To trust is good. To mistrust is better. --Don Hank

Why push for gun control has stalled. By Stephen L. Carter
Excerpt: Support for stricter gun laws hasn’t jumped as fast or as far in recent weeks as many liberals had hoped and expected. If you’re wondering why, maybe the reason is the shakiness of the public’s trust in government itself.

A load of crop. These New Yorkers are raking in the green. By Noreen O’Donnell
Excerpt: More than 1,500 city residents are getting federal farm subsidies, 374 on the Upper East Side alone. The recipients include some “farmers” who already have their own well-cultivated money trees, among them Mark F. Rockefeller.

Do You Live In A Death Spiral State?
Excerpt: Be careful where you put your capital. Don’t put it in a state at high risk of a fiscal tailspin. Eleven states make our list of danger spots for investors. They can look forward to a rising tax burden, deteriorating state finances and an exodus of employers. The list includes California, New York, Illinois and Ohio, along with some smaller states like New Mexico and Hawaii.

30 Officers Resign from San Jose Police Department in 60 days and the Assistant Chief of Police follows! By Sgt. John Robb
Excerpt: In just under 60 days, 30 officers have resigned from the San Jose Police Department as the homicide rate exceeds a twenty-year high. KCBS news reported that San Jose’s Independent Police Auditor, Judge LaDoris Cordell, believes there is little doubt that the recent spike in homicides were due to cuts in police staffing.
