Political Digest for July 5, 2012

Worth Reading: Protect America first, Mr. Obama! By Chet Nagle, Former CIA Agent
Excerpt: Last Friday, millions of Americans from Illinois to the Delmarva Peninsula were hit by an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) missile: no lights, no air conditioning, no Internet, no cellphones and no refrigerators for their insulin. Actually, it was a storm called a “derecho,” but its effects were similar to that of an EMP missile. EMP? Look it up. It will horrify you. But then, you think, if it had been an EMP warhead, our homeland missile defense system would have destroyed it — right? Wrong. (Chet Nagle is a reader of this blog, and the author of two terrific thrillers, which I recommend: The Iran Covenant and The Woolsorter's Plague. ~Bob

Free enterprise was an important element in their grand experiment in liberty. Inherent in the Declaration of Independence is the idea of earned success.

The amazing number of people who know nothing about the health-care ruling. By Chris Cillizza
Excerpt: One of the most common mistakes made in political reporting is to assume that average voter is following the daily news cycle as closely as we are. … Forty-five percent — yes 45 percent! — of respondents in the Pew poll either didn’t know what the court had done in regards the health care law (30 percent) or thought that the court had rejected most of the provisions of the law (15 percent). (Scary, ~Bob.)

Worth Reading: The “European Monster State.” By Wolf Richter

Afghan Treachery and Visionless Strategy Continue to Kill American War Fighters! By John Bernard
Excerpt: The Daily Mirror ran a story about the increased angst in the ranks of Britain's forces over new orders that require British forces to be fired upon before engaging the enemy in Afghanistan. While these ROE are not new to the US and ISAF forces in general, the edict is being received by Britain's armed forces as another oppressive act permitting a greater level of danger for them in the interest of safeguarding "innocent" Afghan civilians. This debate is not new for either the Brits or Americans but with each new edict comes a new round of unnecessary friendly deaths at the hands of the Taliban and our new "allies", the Afghan Army and Police.

Excerpt: When you’re a conservative and you are doing your level best to deal with all the crapola spewed by the Left, you don’t really need a newfangled BS detector. You just need one of those large brooms the circus provides the poor guy who walks behind the elephants. In my case, of course, it’s a team of donkeys I’m trailing behind.

Excerpt: As I’m sure you all know by now, Obama has suggested that for the next few months, nobody should send anyone a wedding, anniversary, birthday or bar mitzvah gift, and should, instead, send the money to him. The EU is Out of Money. End of Story. And Neither the Fed Nor the ECB Can "Print" To Save the DayThe EU is Out of Money. End of Story
Excerpt: While various media outlets and “analysts” try to claim that the EU summit was somehow a success and that Europe’s issues are solved, the fact remains that Europe is out of money. And I mean TOTALLY out of money. I realize this flies in the face of what 99% of analysts are claiming. (Not sure I understand this stuff well enough to know how sacred to be. ~Bob)

Letter to the Editor
Friends have asked me to weigh in on the Supreme Court decision re. Obamacare. I was surprised but not shocked. It is my view that the USA has been on life support for some time now. A country capable of electing an Obama in the first place does not deserve to survive. Thus, whatever the Supreme Court, or Congress, or even the voters might do now is a moot point in the long run.
 Sincerely, Richard Gribbins
