Old Jarhead Poems wins Robert A. Gannon Award
I have been informed by LtGen Robert R. Blackman, Jr. USMC (Ret) that my book of poetry has won the Marine Corp Heritage Foundation's 2012 Robert A. Gannon Award. I'm invited to a Black Tie awards dinner at the National Museum of the Marine Corps on April 21. The award includes a check and an engraved brick to be placed in the Semper Fi Park adjacent to he museum. I imagine my Senior Drill Instructor, Sgt. William H. Harris, being informed that I had won a writing award for poetry, shaking his head and saying, "I knew that maggot had to be good at something!" (All royalties from the book go to the Semper Fi Injured Marine Fund.)

Excerpt: Mitt Romney won Nevada's GOP caucuses by a wide margin Saturday, a victory that was long expected and helps further his campaign's argument that he is the inevitable nominee.

DA: Black Teens Won’t Face Hate Crime Charges
Excerpt: The Philadelphia District Attorney’s office said three black teenagers accused of brutally beating a white taxi cab driver and his white passenger will not be charged with committing hate crimes. The attack happened last weekend in Center City when a group of 10 teenagers swarmed the cab as it was stopped at a traffic light.

2nd teacher removed from troubled Miramonte school, arrested
Excerpt: A second teacher at Miramonte Elementary School near South Los Angeles was arrested Friday on suspicion of lewd conduct with two female students, just days after news broke about a former third-grade teacher who allegedly took photos of blindfolded and gagged children with spoons of semen held to their faces.

Give Me Your Money in the Name of Jesus
Excerpt: While Obama may have been correct in saying that government mandated, shared responsibility is equal to the Islamic belief that those who’ve been blessed have an obligation to use those blessings to help others, he is incorrect to group in Jesus’ teaching, “for unto whom much is given, much shall be required.” Aside from the fact that Jesus was discussing requirements from God, not the government, he was actually teaching his disciples that they were stewards of God’s gift of Revelation. Their requirement was to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. It’s the crux of Christianity that Obama seems to miss. (Well, he already said he didn’t pay attention even to Rev. Wright in his misunderstandings. ~Bob.)

Republicans Have More Orgasms, According to Sex Survey
Just reporting the news, folks. ~Bob.

When does the conversation change?
Excerpt: How good must the economy get to be an asset for Barack Obama's re-election? The tough arithmetic is captured in the nearby table, which is drawn from the latest Economist/YouGov poll. Mr Obama's approval rating on the economy is deeply negative. It would have to get considerably better than it is now, even in the wake of a great January jobs report, to dig him out of that. The other problem for Mr Obama is that the economy is by an overwhelming margin the issue about which voters care the most.

Muslim cab driver refuses guide dog in Letchworth
Excerpt: "The driver turned up and said you are more than welcome but I’m not taking your dog," said Sean, who has been blind for 15 years. "He said it was because he was a Muslim. I was horrified. This sort of thing happens all the time and it’s not acceptable." The debate between Sean and the driver was caught on camera by a friend.

Marwan’s decade-long tale of terror
Excerpt: Zulkifli Abdul Hir, born in Muar in 1966, was a telecommunications engineer trained in the United States. Zulkifli, whose aliases included Marwan and Musa, was believed to be the head of the Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia (KMM), accused of being a senior member of the regional terror network Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and blamed for multiple bomb attacks in the Philippines.

Please bring his body home, pleads mum
Excerpt: The mother of Jemaah Islamiyah leader Zulkifli Abdul Hir, who was killed in a raid by the Philippine authorities, wants the body of her long-lost son brought home for burial here.

Political Correctness and Muslims by Bill O'Reilly
Excerpt: The story is grisly: a husband and wife murdering their three young daughters, ages 19, 17 and 13, by drowning them along with their stepmother. The couple was assisted by their 21-year-old son. All were found guilty of first-degree murder in Ontario, Canada. They were sentenced to life in prison. Mohammad Shafia and his wife, Tooba, immigrated to Canada from Afghanistan in 2007. Being Muslims, they believe in Sharia law, which in some cases allows so-called "honor killings" -- that is, if a family member deviates from strict Muslim teachings, other family members can execute them.

Excerpt: Now it seems the Obama administration is contemplating something that is even scarier: doctors would be given immunity from malpractice lawsuits, but only if they practice medicine according to government guidelines. The pressure would be enormous. Have you ever met a doctor who wanted to be sued? ... According to the World Health Organization, about 25,000 British patients die prematurely every year because they do not have access to cancer drugs that are routinely available in the United States and continental Europe.

Excerpt: Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois soon may need to construct a wall—not to keep people out but to keep business in. While such a drastic move is unlikely, they will need to do something because they are at a severe regional economic disadvantage now that Indiana has passed a right to work law.

New BS BLS Report Shows Obama Costs US $20 Trillion by John Ransom
Excerpt: Another 1.2 million people dropped out the workforce, which means that Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) economists can say that unemployment has moved down to 8.3 percent without that messy job-creation thing getting in the way. That’s been such a bummer for Obama. But now he doesn’t have to worry about his programs actually doing anything, since the invention of the new government BLS math BS to replace the old government BLS math BS makes job creation obsolete. That's just perfect for the Democrats.

Excerpt: Wexler served as then-senator Barack Obama's chief booster in the American Jewish community during the 2008 presidential campaign. He appeared everywhere and said anything to convince the American Jewish community that the same man who sat in the church pews listening to Rev. Jeremiah Wright's anti-Semitic vitriol for two decades, and listed among his closest friends and associates a host of Israel-haters as well as former terrorists, was the greatest friend Israel could ever have.

Excerpt: The United Nations wants a world tax imposed on all financial transactions to fund a global model of social services that will provide “needy people” with a basic income, free healthcare, education and housing.

Illinois is broke, so let's spend more by Ethel C. Fenig
Excerpt: Ah, the mind of a Democrat tax and spender. (I know, I know--redundant.) Three weeks after Moody's lowered President Barack Hussein Obama's (D) home state of Illinois to "the lowest credit rating of any state in the country" ... Illinois' Democratic Governor Pat Quinn served up a State of the State speech Wednesday full of ways to spend more money on college scholarships and preschool and cut taxes on natural gas and families with children.

Lockstep Liberalism Makes The Komen Foundation Grovel
Excerpt: Modern "liberalism" is strikingly illiberal; the high priests of "tolerance" are increasingly intolerant of even the mildest dissent; and those who profess to "celebrate diversity" coerce ever more ruthlessly a narrow homogeneity. Thus, the Obama administration's insistence that Catholic institutions must be compelled to provide free contraception, sterilization and abortifacients. This has less to do with any utilitarian benefit a condomless janitor at a Catholic school might derive from ObamaCare, and more to do with the liberal muscle of Big Tolerance enforcing one-size-fits-all diversity.

NYPD on high-alert to protect city from Iranian-backed terrorists
Excerpt: New York's Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has increased security at the Israeli consulate, synagogues and other Jewish cultural institutions throughout all five boroughs of the city as a result of Iranian threats against Israel and the Jews.

Supreme Court justice: U.S. Constitution inferior: 'I might look at South Africa. Canada has a Charter of Rights and Freedoms'
Excerpt: One member of the U.S. Supreme Court, whose members are sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States, says she would look elsewhere – Canada, South Africa and Europe – should she be tasked with writing a constitution now. The stunning statements come from Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was being interviewed by Al Hayat in Egypt, which is trying to develop a government after citizens deposed longtime dictator President Hosni Mubarack last year. (Surprising she would say it, not that she would think it. Canada doesn't, for example, have freedom of speech--you can be punished if someone claims hater speech. We are headed there, with judges like this. ~Bob.)

Worth Reading: Independent thought on jihad and Islam at the Daily Kos
Excerpt: Recently two extraordinary articles have appeared at the Daily Kos -- extraordinary because, to the rage and dismay of many of that site's commenters and regular readers -- they depart from the standard Leftist line that Islamic jihad violence has nothing whatsoever to do with Islam, even if jihadists invoke Islamic texts and teachings to justify that violence, and that only greasy Islamophobes think otherwise.

Obama Pulls Combat Pay for U.S. Troops
Excerpt: President Obama’s latest policy outrage makes no attempt to hide his contempt for our military, as he is ordering that our troops serving overseas in war zones overseas are not to receive combat pay unless they are being shot at. A Marine who lives in Florida has just posted a note on Facebook which stated that he received a letter from his MyPay account that he would only be receiving his Hazard pay (Imminent Danger Pay) if he is actually in a hostile area and at risk of being shot at.

Bloomberg reloads in push for gun control
Excerpt: Among the slick, million-dollar ads for the likes of Pepsi and Honda during the Super Bowl this Sunday, viewers in Washington will see a far more modest spot. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will be sitting on a couch touting an issue most politicians avoid like the plague: gun control. The two mayors, whose local teams face off in the big game, are making the pitch for Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), the organization they co-founded in 2006. (If they try to take away my guns, I'm going to tell them I belong to a Mexican Drug Cartel and got them from Holder and the ATF. ~Bob.)

Charlie White, Indiana Election Chief, Found Guilty Of Voter Fraud
Excerpt: While Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels held off Saturday on appointing a permanent replacement for the state elections chief convicted early that morning of voter fraud, Democrats said they planned to move quickly to wrest control of the politically powerful office from the GOP. A jury from Hamilton County, just north of Indianapolis, deliberated for 13 hours before convicting Republican Secretary of State Charlie White on six felony charges. Among other things, White was accused of lying about his address on voter registration forms.

Court Upholds School’s and Police’s Right to Violate Student’s Fourth Amendment Rights
Excerpt: Besides the invasive nature of these kinds of things, what it teaches students in the future is that you live in a police state, that the police can [do this] without a search warrant, without you doing anything wrong, without them proving [they have] probable cause under the Fourth Amendment, that becomes normal.

Roseanne Barr for President - by Dave Blount,
Excerpt: Roseanne Barr: “I’ll forgive all student loans, all debts. There’ll be no more money, no more money systems. Everything will be based on barter and growing and eating vegetables.” Presumably her presidency would also entail beheading her fellow rich people. (She'll get a lot of votes from progressives for whom Obama is too radical. ~Bob.)

A Marine's Final Letter: 'There is a greater meaning...'
Excerpt: Last month, much of America was appalled - and the world outraged - by a video that showed four Marines in Afghanistan apparently urinating on the corpses of Taliban fighters. It was, again, a reminder of our weaknesses, and how the madness of war can lay bare the ugliness within us. This morning, another reminder - of our strengths.

Anti-Putin protesters: Coping with bitter cold and big questions
Excerpt: By any standard, it was an impressive array of individuals. Seated under a large poster of a young Andrei Sakharov – the Soviet nuclear physicist, dissident, 1975 Nobel Peace Prize recipient and spiritual father of their movement – the brain trust of Moscow's anti-Putin opposition sat at card tables debating their next move. (Good time to protest. Ground is too frozen to dig mass graves. ~Bob.)

White House gives up more Solyndra docs
Excerpt: Amid threats by a top House Republican to pursue contempt charges, the White House on Friday sent lawmakers more internal documents related to the $535 million loan guarantee to failed solar firm Solyndra. (Funny that you have to threaten the "most transparent administration in history" to get public documents. ~Bob.)

Man kills relative over ‘unpregnant’ camel
Excerpt: A Sudanese shepherd murdered his cousin in Dubai after finding out that one of the female camels sold to him was not pregnant. (I suspect a crime of passion. ~Bob.)

1 comment:

  1. Bob,

Some more gouge on the Imminent Danger Pay issue: Despite what has been reported, I recieved the same email message from MyPay and nothing has changed except the way IDP is awarded. Previously, anyone who was in an IDP zone for a single day got the entire month's allotment of IDP. The new law will change the award to $7.50 for each day that an individual is in an IDP zone, as designated by the SecDef. Those who are actually shot at or who experience a mine/IED detonation will recieve the full month's award of $225 as Hostile Fire Pay.

The Marine who voiced his frustration apparently didn't understand what he was reading, because he got it completely wrong and stirred up a lot of malcontent in the process. Regardless of the administration's other policies and decisions, this one is simply a non-issue.

    Semper Fidelis,
    Capt, USMC
